But losing Kamara? The best player on the team? Talk about a bummer.</p><p>And yet, just when things look the most dire, GM Mickey Loomis came in clutch with a nice piece of business, signing <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-release-former-first-round-pick-week-15" rel="noopener">recently released running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire</a> to the practice squad in order to <a href="https://x.com/TomPelissero/status/1869506661804876022" rel="noopener">help bolster their depth chart</a>, according to the team’s official social media account.</p><p>Pandering? Eh, maybe so, but then again, is that really a bad thing? Saints fans and LSU fans have an incredible crossover, and CEH played on some of the best Tigers teams in recent memories, becoming a first-round pick in 202, largely off of his 1,414-yard junior season back in 2019. Factor in that he was born in Baton Rouge, and bringing in Edwards-Helaire feels like the perfect buy-low move to make fans pop in an otherwise disappointing season.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Clyde-Edwards-Helaire-at-LSU.jpg"><figcaption>Christopher Hanewinckel-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><h2><b>Even Darren Rizzi is unclear when the Saints will have Alvin Kamara</b></h2><p>Discussing Kamara’s injury after Week 15, even head coach Darren Rizzi wasn’t sure what was going on with Kamara, noting that he had a groin injury but had <a href="https://www.nola.com/sports/saints/saints-alvin-kamara-groin-injury/article_ec68a818-bbf1-11ef-ade0-b7845a56146d.html" rel="noopener">no real timetable for his return</a>.</p><p>“He’s kind of dealing with a little bit of a groin adductor type of situation. It was very, very minor. I think he felt it on that diving touchdown catch, which was outstanding, by the way,” Rizzi said via Nola.com.</p><p>“So he’s going to get a couple of more opinions. A couple of more imaging things taken care of today, so we’ll kind of see where he’s at. At the moment, we kind of have the first set of images, and we’re going to kind of see what happens here with the second opinion. This means that CEH will miss at least the first four games of the 2024 season, including the season opener against the Ravens.</p><p>CEH regularly missed practices during training camp due to what seems to be a recurring illness. He didn’t elaborate much, except to mention that he and a friend were involved in a “self-defense situation” at that time while he was at LSU.</p><p>“That’s the day my best friend and I had a self-defense situation and I will say that’s probably where the majority of things stem from, but I wouldn’t necessarily say everything stemmed from that,” said Clyde Edwards-Helaire.</p><p>During his time at LSU, Edwards-Helaire and linebacker Jared Small arranged to meet 18-year-old Kobe Johnson to sell an electronic device. The meeting escalated when Johnson attempted to rob them, leading to Johnson being shot and killed.</p><p>Although District Attorney Hillar Moore concluded that Edwards-Helaire and Small were defending themselves, the traumatic experience left Edwards-Helaire with PTSD.</p><p>Neither Edwards-Helaire nor Small faced charges following the incident, and Edwards-Helaire went on to play in the Fiesta Bowl less than two weeks later. He was then selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, sixteen months after the event.</p><h2><b>How PTSD has affected Clyde Edwards-Helaire</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Clyde-Edwards-Helaire-catching-a-pass-for-the-Chiefs.jpg"><figcaption>Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>During his Thursday comments, Edwards-Helaire shared that he has been hospitalized in the past due to persistent vomiting. In Week 17, they’ll face the Cincinnati Bengals with a few key injury updates to watch for. The statuses of Isiah Pacheco, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and L’Jarius Sneed will be officially decided soon.</p><p>According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, both Pacheco (concussion, shoulder) and Edwards-Helaire (illness) are <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1741329611206594839?s=20" rel="noopener">expected to play</a>. Both of the running backs were listed as questionable. But for Sneed, the cornerback who is <a href="https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1741386963805245707?s=20" rel="noopener">dealing with a calf injury</a>, there is greater uncertainty, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.</p><p>Rapaport reports that Sneed “is considered to be a game-time decision for today, source said. He improved dramatically from Friday to Saturday, so at least he has a chance. But he didn’t practice all week, leaving his status in doubt.”</p><p>The Chiefs need to cleanse their palate after a humiliating home loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. The Bengals won’t be a pushover, though, as they’re still in the playoff hunt and need to bounce back from a loss against their own division rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers.</p><p>Having both of their running backs is a great development for the Chiefs. This is especially the case for Pacheco, who had 303 yards from scrimmage in the three games prior to the last game, where he was ruled out midway through. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-kansas-city-set-isiah-pacheco-boost-vs-bengals" rel="noopener">Clearing concussion protocol</a> has given him the green light to play despite also dealing with a shoulder injury.</p><p>The Bengals should be getting superstar wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bengals-news-jamarr-chase-play-chiefs-trash-talk-week-17" rel="noopener">back in action</a> after missing last week with a shoulder injury.
