And they may have their eye on <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/washington-commanders/3-reasons-mike-green-perfect-commanders-fit-nfl-draft">a boom-or-bust edge rusher</a>. For now, here is the Commanders’ <a href="https://www.profootballnetwork.com/mockdraft" rel="noopener">full seven-round 2025</a> NFL mock draft, according to the Pro Football Network simulator.</p><p>However, the simulator pulled a weird deal. With top-notch edge rusher James Pearce Jr. on the board, the simulator thought the Commanders would pass on taking a guy who could transform their defense. It doesn’t make sense, but let’s see what road the simulator took for the Commanders.</p><p>Well, the first Round 2 pick didn’t make sense, either.</p><h2><b>Commanders get Jaylin Noel at No. 49 overall</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Iowa-State-WR-Jaylin-Noel.jpg"><figcaption>Vasha Hunt-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>So here’s what the Commanders get instead of Pearce. A <a href="https://www.nfl.com/prospects/jaylin-noel/32004e4f-4537-8255-74e9-bfa22151ef3a" rel="noopener">“eventual average starter”</a> according to nfl.com. But hey, maybe the Iowa State product can return kicks?</p><p>“Noel’s blend of receiving and return talent could carry more sway with teams given the league’s new kickoff rules in 2024,” Lance Zierlein wrote. “He’s primarily a slot receiver but has enough size and speed to kick outside in a pinch. His routes can be a little unfocused but that’s correctable with coaching. What can’t be coached is his consistent play speed. He can accelerate and separate from turns and stems and tends to uncover on cross-country routes.”</p><p>There are some good things. but how can the Commanders get excited about a player like this?</p><p>“The catch focus can be inconsistent, but he is willing to mix it up in the middle of the field and is a natural after the ball is in his hands,” Zierlein wrote.</p><p>The truth of the matter is the Commanders can’t afford to trade down as far as this simulator sent them. It’s a bad deal.</p><h2><b>Oluwafemi Oladejo also lands in Round 2</b></h2><p>The second pick turned out to be Oladejo. But here’s the interesting thing. Oladejo is a decent pick at No. 61 overall. He could be <a href="https://www.nfl.com/prospects/oluwafemi-oladejo/32004f4c-4111-0743-ebea-7a82f613f94c" rel="noopener">a reasonably good</a> edge rusher, according to nfl.com.</p><p>“Linebacker-turned-edge-rusher whose draft profile might have gone from dull to dynamic with the switch, Zierlein wrote. “Oladejo is long and aggressive in attacking blockers in front of him. A lack of instincts in the run game and plans as a pass rusher could be temporary bumps in the road that should be smoothed with coaching.</p><p>“He greets and discards blockers with powerful, twitchy hands and still plays with a linebacker’s range and nose for the football despite his new position. He catches the “developmental” tag relative to his edge experience, but his traits and tape suggest he will make a difference sooner than expected.”</p><p>So let’s review. They could have gotten Oladejo regardless. But instead of Noel, they could have gotten Luther Burden III (No. 31 to the Broncos), Emeka Egbuka (No. 33 to Browns), or Tre Harris (No. 35 to Titans).</p><p>Any of those guys would have been a sizeable upgrade over Noel.</p><h2><b>Commanders pick WR in Round 4</b></h2><p>Nothing like boosting mediocrity with more mediocrity, right? The Commanders picked up Colorado State wide receiver Tory Horton with pick No. 128.</p><p>Horton has some potential, but is <a href="https://www.nfl.com/prospects/tory-horton/3200484f-5271-4724-279c-0b867b4b01d4" rel="noopener">another unexciting prospect</a>, according to nfl.com. Also, he’s coming off an injury.</p><p>“Productive fifth-year senior and two-time team captain whose 2024 season was cut short by a knee surgery,” Zierlein wrote. “Horton is a loose athlete with quality speed and above-average cut quickness. He’s an instinctive route runner with a feel for burst timing and he rarely drops what is thrown his way.</p><p>“Big press corners are likely to slow him and take a bite out of his effectiveness, but motion and bunch formations could solve that problem. He can knife through the heart of zone defenses and is competitive at the catch point but can be overtaken on 50/50 balls by length and size. If healthy, Horton has WR3 upside.”</p><p>Wow. The upside is still mediocre. This mock draft doesn’t look very good for the Commanders.</p><h2><b>Back the edge in Round 5</b></h2><p>The simulator dropped University of Minnesota’s Jah Joyner on the Commanders. He projects as <a href="https://www.nfl.com/prospects/jah-joyner/32004a4f-5930-2635-2a85-97b24279ee36" rel="noopener">an average backup</a> or special-teams player, according to nfl.com.</p><p>“Long-limbed edge defender with highs and lows on tape that make him a little more challenging to project,” Zierlein wrote. “Joyner is a tight-hipped, short-stepping rusher with unimpressive speed and power.”</p><p>Oh my, nothing like an edge rusher who lacks speed and power.</p><p>“His hand work is basic, but he’s resilient and creates opportunities on the edges by utilizing his length and nose for the ball,” Zierlein wrote. “He lacks a functional anchor to hold up against NFL run blockers and will need to play wide or standing until he improves his core strength and tightens up his block take-on. Joyner has traits but too many mismatched pieces in his game, which makes him a developmental prospect with a lower ceiling.”</p><p>Granted, it’s hard to find gems this late. But this draft has become a disaster because of the poor start.</p><h2><b>Commanders finally get a CB</b></h2><p>Washington needed help in the secondary, but waited until the last round to grab Mac McWilliams out of Central Florida. He <a href="https://www.nfl.com/prospects/mac-mcwilliams/32004d43-5749-3398-68cb-69d9d9d0b102" rel="noopener">doesn’t bring a lot</a> to the table, either.</p><p>“Tenacious cornerback whose 2024 tape helped spotlight his toughness and short-area athleticism,” Zierlein wrote. “McWilliams is best in off coverages. He plays with anticipation and burst to swarm the top of the route from his pedal and is quick to pounce on zone throws.”</p><p>However, McWilliams doesn’t bring good speed or length to the position. And he’s not good at locating the ball. Ick.</p><p><i>Overall, the Commanders have a draft to forget here. Grade: F.</i></p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

And they should have their <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/washington-commanders/3-reasons-mike-green-perfect-commanders-fit-nfl-draft">sights set on this player</a>. But if he’s not available, here is the Commanders’ perfect 2025 NFL Draft trade.</p><p>The Washington Commanders are in a strong position in the 2025 NFL Draft, despite not picking until No. 29 overall. And they have three options.</p><p>They could trade up and get a premier prospect to boost their defense and cornerback or edge rusher. They could stand pat and have a player fall into their lap. Or they could wait until No. 29 and see there’s nobody on the board they are overly excited about. In that case, they could deal the No. 29 pick for an early second-round selection and replace their missing third-round pick.</p><p>The good new is the Commanders won’t have to make a decision until the see how the first round is progressing. But the latter of those three choices is the best strategy.</p><h2><b>Commanders should trade down from Round 1</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Washington-Commanders-head-coach-Dan-Quinn_818343.jpg"><figcaption>Kirby Lee-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Washington’s defense still has points of weakness and Dan Quinn knows what he needs on that side of the ball. The main thing it doesn’t have is a threatening edge rusher. Also, there are still some question marks at the cornerback position.</p><p>In order to mix it up with offenses like the Eagles have, the Commanders need to improve both areas. And there’s a chance all of the premier edge rushers will be off the board when they pick.</p><p>So this puts them in a situation where they might as well trade down. They should be able to get a quality cornerback early in the second round. And if they’re not getting a premier edge rusher, they might as well look for one of the lesser ones in Round 2.</p><p>The Browns and Giants are the most likely trade partners for that No. 29 pick. Either team could still be in need of a quarterback and might be willing to pay the price if a decent one remains on the board.</p><p>Despite moving back, the Commanders could still get a cornerback like Kentcuky’s Maxwell Hairston. Some mock drafts have the Commanders getting him in Round 1. But if they can add an extra player and still get Hairston, it’s a no-brainer decision.</p><p>Hairston’s blazing 4.28 speed makes him a great fit for a Commanders’ secondary that needs the boost. It wouldn’t be too bad to have a player in the mold of former Washington Hall of Famer Darrell Green roaming the secondary, either. NFL Draft Buzz <a href="https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Maxwell-Hairston-DB-Kentucky" rel="noopener">likes the ceiling</a> of Hairston.</p><p>“His instincts in zone coverage are special — the way he baits quarterbacks and drives on the football,” NFL Draft Buzz wrote. “The thing that jumps off the tape with Hairston is his natural feel for finding the football. He’s got that rare knack for making plays that can’t be taught.”</p><p>The only thing that could cause pause for the Commanders is the failed pick of Emmanuel Forbes Jr. in 2023. Forbes’ lack of size didn’t play well in the NFL despite his college success. And that’s an issue for Hairston, too.</p><p>“Sure, his slight frame is going to give some teams pause, especially against the grown men he’ll face on Sundays,” NFL Draft Buzz wrote. “But his competitiveness at the catch point and ability to match-and-mirror in space will translate immediately to sub-package duties.”</p><h2><b>Commanders can target edge rusher at No. 61 overall</b></h2><p>According to nfl.com mock draft, James Pearce Jr. could drop all the way to No. 60. That seems like quite the stretch, but it gives hope to the Commanders that a good edge rusher would still be available this late.</p><p>One guy the Commanders might land in this spot is UCLA’s Oluwafemi Oladejo. One of those players, Deebo Samuel, <a href="https://x.com/MikeReiss/status/1909279744501190895" rel="noopener">got reunited with</a> a Patriots legend, according to a post on X by Mike Reiss.</p><p><i>Wes Welker, who was in the news last week as a worthy nominee for the Patriots Hall of Fame (672 catches over 6 regular seasons + another 69 in playoffs), is in the news again this week.</i><br><i>Welker, the former Dolphins WRs coach, has landed on the Commanders staff, per sources.</i></p><p>Welker served as the 49ers wide receivers coach from 2019-21 and had Samuel under his wing.</p><h2><b>Wes Welker pushed Samuel to lose weight in 2020</b></h2><p>When Samuel arrived in San Francisco, the 49ers believed him to be too heavy to reach full effectiveness. That led to long runs before practice with Welker overseeing them. Welker tried to get Samuel down to 212 pounds, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/1813025/2020/05/13/49ers-deebo-samuel-has-a-surprise-in-store-for-wes-welker-a-lower-body-weight/" rel="noopener">but settled at 220</a>, according to nytimes.com.</p><p>“Wes is hard on Deebo,” Samuel’s college coach, Will Muschamp, said. “Deebo’s a guy that’s always got to worry about his weight a little bit as far as the offseason and those things.”</p><p>But Samuel had high praise for Welker, according to ninersnation.com back in 2022. Samuel said Welker <a href="https://www.ninersnation.com/2022/2/11/22927914/49ers-deebo-samuel-niners-nation" rel="noopener">could be the next</a> Mike McDaniel, current Miami Dolphins head coach.</p><p>(It’s) how he helps us with install,” Samuel said. “How he goes over the install with us. Just hearing how he talks about things that could actually help. I think he makes it relatable. He’s been in the league for a long time and seen a lot of plays. I think it’s just the mindset that he has.”</p><p>Samuel hopes to add a key weapon to the Commanders’ offense that thrived in 2024 under the direction of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who made second-fiddle guys look a lot better at times. Now Daniels has a second lead-chair guy to go along with Terry McLaurin.</p><p>This coming season, McLaurin and Samuel are expected to lead the way with Noah Brown taking over the No. 3 spot. Michael Gallup, Luke McCaffrey, and K.J. Osborn are also in the mix. It’s not out of the realm of possibility for the Commanders to get another wide receiver in the draft. But they still need to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/washington-commanders/3-players-commanders-must-avoid-in-2025-nfl-draft">work on their defense</a> and must be careful with their first pick. And here are three reasons why Mike Green is the perfect fit for the Commanders in the 2025 NFL Draft.</p><p>First, there’s a chance Green gets gobbled up before the Commanders have a chance to get him. It would be a great day for the Commanders if he slipped all the way to No. 29. However, too many mock drafts have him going higher than that.</p><p>Therefore, the Commanders might need to execute a trade, perhaps as high as the No. 19 spot. But he’s the guy the Commanders need to get to make their defense more threatening.</p><h2><b>Edge Mike Green fills Commanders’ biggest need</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Marshall-University-edge-rusher-Mike-Green.jpg"><figcaption>Kirby Lee-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Here’s a quiz question. When was the last time the Commanders had a premier pass rusher?</p><p>You have to go back seven years to find defensive end Ryan Kerrigan. That’s a long time without having a guy who can send fear into the opposing team’s offensive coordinators’ offices.</p><p>Green brings the explosiveness to the edge rusher position that the Commanders have missed all these years. That’s <a href="https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Mike-Green-DL-Marshall" rel="noopener">his trademark signature,</a> according to nfldraftbuzz.com.</p><p>“Green’s calling card as an NFL edge defender will be his explosive first step and sophisticated rush plan that keeps tackles off balance,” NFL Draft Buzz wrote. “That blend of speed and technique projects well to passing downs.”</p><p>Now the Commanders will have to pick and choose their spots with Green against teams that can run the football.</p><p>“… His 248-pound frame raises legitimate concerns about holding up against NFL offensive tackles in the run game,” NFL Draft Buzz wrote. “Year one likely means a specialized role focusing on what he does best — hunting quarterbacks in sub packages.”</p><p>But Green has the potential to become much more than a guy who comes in when the other has to pass the football.</p><p>“His natural leverage and rapidly improving hand usage suggest room for growth, even if he’ll never be a power player setting the edge,” NFL Draft Buzz wrote. “There’s enough physicality on tape, particularly against tight ends, to project eventual three-down capability once his frame fills out. The key will be maintaining his rare movement skills while adding necessary mass.”</p><h2><b>Edge Mike Green brings a needed attitude</b></h2><p>When the Commanders play teams like the Eagles and Cowboys, they face guys with the attitude of being unblockable. That creates a unit-wide bonus for the defense.</p><p>Green has some of the intangibles that a guy like Micah Parsons brings to the Cowboys. Of Green isn’t Parsons and won’t be. But he could bring a Parsons-like attiude to the Commanders.</p><p>The reason comes from his determination. Green plays over the top from <a href="https://www.nfl.com/prospects/mike-green/32004752-4532-8003-5243-a627699fc537" rel="noopener">an effort standpoint</a> on every snap, according to nfl.com.</p><p>“High-energy pass rusher with productivity and a method of play that should translate to the next level,” Lance Zierlein wrote. “He relentlessly presses forward, but can run out of gas due to his hot-running motor.”</p><p>Playing alongside a guy like that could make a difference for a guy like Javon Kinlaw. The Commanders spent big money to bring the defensive tackle into town. And a young buck like Green might help Kinlaw reach the potential that made him the No. 14 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.</p><h2><b>Commanders need player with chip on his shoulder</b></h2><p>Washington built its 2024 success on getting the right players into the organization. And that approach should serve them well in 2025.</p><p>But the NFL is a violent world. And have a guy who plays with an edge is important when things get tough late in the season and in the playoffs.</p><p>Green has off-field questions that could push him deeper into the first round and give the Commanders a shot. Concerns about Green stem from his 2022 departure from the University of Virginia football team. He told reporters he had been accused of sexual assault twice, but denied the allegations, and said he had <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-draft-prospect-mike-green-denies-sexual-assault-allegations-addresses-departure-from-virginia" rel="noopener">“done nothing wrong,”</a> according to nfl.com.</p><p>“There’s accusations out there,” Green said. “I’ve never been questioned. I’ve never been asked. You know what I’m saying? Like, nobody ever asked me a question about what happened before I departed from Virginia. It was just accusations that caused me to leave from there.”</p><p>Green said he’s not worried about falling in the draft because of the reports.</p><p>“As you can see, throughout this process I’ve been rising higher and higher and higher,” he said. “That should tell you everything that you need to know. I’ve been sticking to the process, like I said earlier, and I’ve been telling the truth. The Cardinals, who own the No. 16 pick, have not been shy about moving around the board and have had large recent draft classes, including 12 picks in 2024 and nine in 2023,” Reid wrote. “With only six this year, don’t be surprised if general manager Monti Ossenfort trades out of his pick.</p><p>“Even after signing Josh Sweat, Dalvin Tomlinson and Calais Campbell in free agency, Arizona could continue to add depth to its defensive front.”</p><p>Field Yates had another candidate: the Washington Commanders. Why? Well, because he believes their aggressive offseason could continue into the draft.</p><p>“Washington Commanders. General manager Adam Peters has resourcefully added to his roster through trades this offseason, landing Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel Sr. for modest draft pick compensation,” Yates wrote.</p><p>“The Commanders are down to only five picks and are in the sweet spot — No. 29 overall — where a team slotted early in Round 2 could want to move up for a coveted prospect and the fifth-year option that comes with all first-round contracts. If the Giants or Browns do not take a quarterback early in Round 1, could they give Peters a call?”</p><p>And last but not least, Matt Miller has the Minnesota Vikings as a team to watch, as, much like the Cardinals, they don’t have as many picks as they would like but have a willingness to accumulate them by trading down the board.</p><p>“Minnesota Vikings. With only four selections in this draft, including no second-rounder, the Vikings have less draft capital than any other team. At No. 24 overall, they could benefit from sliding back to a spot like Buffalo (No. 30) or Kansas City (No. 31) to add extra picks. Minnesota could still fill needs at defensive back or defensive tackle later in Round 1.”</p><p>Will any of these teams actually move their first-round pick in 2025, or will the opening night of the NFL Draft remain as it currently is, with all 32 teams holding their own selections? In that time, Lattimore repped No. 23 on his jersey, bringing the same number to his Washington Commanders uniform once he got <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/washington-commanders/commanders-acquire-marshon-lattimore-in-blockbuster-trade-with-saints">traded from the Saints midway through the 2024 season</a>. Once the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/nfl-news-rule-changes-2023-season">NFL reeled back some of its uniform rules</a>, it allowed more position groups to rock the single-digit threads, and plenty of players took the opportunity to change their jersey numbers.</p><p>This time, it’s Lattimore, turning the clock back, and rocking his collegiate jersey number.</p><p>At Ohio State, Lattimore made most of his noise in the 2016 season, ending the year with 41 tackles, nine passes defended, and four interceptions. And after a strong entrance into the NFL — five interceptions in his rookie year — he’s cooled off a bit recently.</p><p>Sure, he’s getting close to 30 years old, but he hasn’t recorded an interception since the first regular-season game of the 2023 campaign. So, Lattimore has gone nearly 600 days since his last interception. Maybe his jersey change is more of a mentality switch than a visual switch-up. As <a href="https://x.com/DeionSanders/status/163676101669945344?lang=en" rel="noopener">the saying goes</a>: Look good, feel good, play good. And quarterback <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/washington-commanders/commanders-news-dan-quinn-jayden-daniels-truth-bomb-skeptics">Jayden Daniels has a chance to improve</a> on his tremendous rookie season. Looking forward, here are three players the Commanders must avoid in the 2025 NFL Draft.</p><p>Washington enters the picking fray with specific needs at four positions. The Commanders need a boost out of the backfield at running back to mesh with Daniels’ running ability. They need a guard to better protect the interior of the offensive line. Also, the defense needs upgrades at the edge rusher and cornerback positions.</p><p>But the Commanders must tread carefully in the draft. Hit on at least two picks, and the Super Bowl picture comes into better focus. Miss on all of the picks and making the playoffs might be the ceiling.</p><h2><b>Commanders should avoid Walter Nolen in Round 1</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/full.jpg"><figcaption>Stephen Lew-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Some draft pundits, and wacky AI software, have the Commanders looking at Nolen for their premier 2025 pick. However, he’s not the right fit for several reasons.</p><p>First, the Commanders beefed up their defensive line by getting Javon Kinlaw in free agency. Because of the contract price they paid for Kinlaw, the Commanders can’t afford to spend their first pick on an interior defensive lineman.</p><p>Also, keep in mind the Commanders only have five picks in the draft. They have to fill those four needs, or else they will be scrounging around the free-agent leftovers throughout the summer.</p><p>In fairness to Nolen, he projects as a Year 1 starter. He has plenty of ability. However, one ding against him has been his inability to reach his potential. And the Commanders found themselves in an interesting position.</p><p>“I’m afraid that is the team that is going to have the quarterback hit the sophomore slump, and now you have invested in all these older guys and you are not really building a team anymore, you are just adding pieces,” another exec said, noting (Texans QB) C.J. Washington took a huge leap forward in <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/washington-commanders/commanders-considered-bill-belichick-before-hiring-dan-quinn">year one under head coach Dan Quinn</a>. The Commanders won 12 games during the regular season and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/washington-commanders/commanders-news-magic-johnson-immediate-reaction-playoff-win">had a pair of exciting playoff wins in 2024</a>. Now the Commanders are hopeful that they can improve even further in 2025.</p><p>Commanders head coach Dan Quinn <a href="https://x.com/JPFinlayNBCS/status/1907036986206003575" rel="noopener">opened up on how he thinks</a> offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury will use WR Deebo Samuel in 2025.</p><p>“Inside, outside, in the backfield, all the spots,” Quinn said on Tuesday. “Fortunately Kliff’s really equipped at that too. How to be unique and feature players into their best spots. Really pumped to have him.”</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-news-san-francisco-blockbuster-deebo-samuel-trade-commanders">Commanders acquired Samuel from the 49ers back in March</a> in exchange for a fifth-round pick. Samuel joins a Commanders offense that already includes Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin, and a host of other playmakers.</p><p>Washington also made another big move this offseason, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/washington-commanders/commanders-news-bombshell-laremy-tunsil-trade-texans">acquiring left tackle Laremy Tunsil from the Texans</a>. Tunsil projects as the Commanders’ starting left tackle, which significantly upgrades the team’s offensive line.</p><p>Quinn said of Tunsil on Tuesday that “<a href="https://x.com/JPFinlayNBCS/status/1907037377840689458" rel="noopener">somebody of that caliber is a big deal</a>” per JP Finlay of NBC Sports.</p><p>Quinn added that offensive lineman Brandon Coleman will start at tackle. However, Quinn added that Coleman does have experience at both tackle and guard.</p><h2><b>Commanders begin contract talks with star Terry McLaurin</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Washington-Commanders-WR-Terry-McLaurin-1.jpg"><figcaption>Bill Streicher-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Commanders are also going to great lengths to retain the star players already on the roster.</p><p>Washington has apparently begun contract <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/washington-commanders/commanders-news-gm-terry-mclaurin-statement-contract-talks">negotiations on an extension for star receiver Terry McLaurin</a>.</p><p>Commanders GM Adam Peters made it clear in a recent interview why the team does not want to let McLaurin go.</p><p>“We want to make Terry a Commander for a long time,” Peters said according to Sam Fortier and Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post.</p><p>“He’s a great Commander,” Peters added. “He got better and better as the season went on — not only as a player but as a leader. It was really impressive to see him grow so much. You think of Terry as this pristine, polished player, but then he got even better, so it’s really cool. Everybody can get better, even the great ones. So we’ve had talks with Terry’s representation, and I think — just like any talks we’ll have — those will stay in the house. But it’s been really positive.”</p><p>McLaurin had the best season of his career in 2024 with QB Jayden Daniels. He hauled in 82 receptions for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns.</p><p>McLaurin turns 30 years old in September. It hasn’t made Commanders’ head coach Dan Quinn too pleased.</p><p>Via JP Finlay on X (formerly Twitter), the coach <a href="https://x.com/JPFinlayNBCS/status/1907039737992343902" rel="noopener">explained rather simply</a> his shot back at Daniels’s skeptics.</p><p>“If he wasn’t a dynamic runner, he’d still be an excellent quarterback.”</p><p>Daniels was second among NFL quarterbacks in rushing yards this past season. He only trailed Baltimore Ravens quarterback, Lamar Jackson.</p><p>Still, the rushing numbers shouldn’t take away from how elite the rookie quarterback was. For instance, Daniels made NFL history with the Commanders midway through the season.</p><p>He became the only rookie quarterback to have <a href="https://fox59.com/sports/sports-illustrated/8cc9049/commanders-jayden-daniels-sets-rookie-accuracy-record-during-mnf-win/" rel="noopener">at least an 80% completion percentage</a> in a single game with a minimum of 25 passing attempts.</p><p>That statistic alone is beyond impressive. For it to come from a rookie, that’s a generational type of number. Even so, the Commanders went to the NFC Championship game.</p><p>While they were squashed by the Philadelphia Eagles, it was a promising season. There are more ways for Daniels to improve as a player. Quinn sees that there is more to Daniels’ dynamic, other than running.</p><h2><b>Commandes’ Jayden Daniels has Dan Quinn’s support</b></h2><p>Throughout the 2024-25 season, Quinn has been adamant about his support for the rookie quarterback. After the Commanders selected him with the second overall pick, there was a high level of optimism.</p><p>However, the 12-5 record and Wild Card appearance was all many needed to know. Then, Washington defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and then the NFC champions, Detroit Lions.</p><p>While it was an all-around performance, Daniels didn’t shy away from being confident. As he is ready to enter his sophomore season, many are hoping a sophomore slump doesn’t take place.</p><p>As Quinn mentioned though, there is more to his game than simply running the ball. His 3,568 passing yards and 25 touchdowns were beyond impressive.</p><p>Not to mention, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/washington-commanders/commanders-news-fans-erupt-after-jayden-daniels-nfl-rookie-of-the-year-win">Daniels won the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year</a>, beating out guys like Bo Nix and Marvin Harrison Jr. While the postseason success might’ve factored in, the Commanders were a lowly team without him.</p><p>Fast forward to this previous season, and there is positive momentum moving their way. Quinn’s upbeat yet charasimatic style works brilliantly with Daniels’s calm demeanor.</p><p>As the 2025-26 season kicks off in a matter of months, the Commanders are in a prime position to continue to make noise. With Daniels at the helm, he’ll likely make more adjustments to his game and shut off the spigot of skeptics’ criticism.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
