However, ahead of the Seahawks’ 2025 training camp, Walker is still the top trade candidate on the team.</p><p>Walker, 24, has been the Seahawks’ starting running back since they selected him in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. However, after an impressive rookie year, his efficiency and production have dipped each season. Walker has yet to relinquish the starting role, but seems to fall further into a timeshare with Zach Charbonnet each week.</p><p>After posting 1,050 rushing yards as a rookie, Walker looked like one of the best running backs in the league early in his career. He added 905 yards in year two — a slight decrease, but still encouraging results. However, his efficiency dipped from 4.6 yards per carry in 2024 to just 4.1 in 2023. Everything fell apart in 2024, when Walker posted just 573 rushing yards on 3.7 yards per attempt.</p><p>In addition to his efficiency concerns, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seahawks-news-seattle-gets-kenneth-walker-injury-designation-week-2">Walker missed five games in 2024</a> and has yet to play a full 17-game season. While he has only missed nine games in his three-year career, Walker has spent the majority of his brief professional tenure on the injury report. Injuries are practically guaranteed for running backs, but they appear to be a contributing factor in Walker’s gradual decline.</p><p>Still just four years into his career, Walker is still a starting running back on most teams. But with Seattle’s backfield continuing to grow, his importance to the team wanes. With training camp just around the corner, do not be surprised to see the Seahawks sell high on his value in the 2025 offseason trade market.</p><h2><b>Kenneth Walker III is Seahawks’ top trade candidate</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Kenneth-Walker-was-unable-to-finish-the-game-against-the-Vikings-because-of-a-sprained-ankle.jpg"><figcaption>Steven Bisig-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Aside from four games early in his rookie year, Walker has started every game he has played. He continues to be ahead of Charbonnet on the depth chart, but his grip on the role has gradually weakened. Fans view Walker as the Seahawks’ clear-cut starter, but he has played more than 60 percent of Seattle’s offensive snaps in just 10 of his 27 games since Charbonnet joined the team in 2023.</p><p>Conversely, Charbonnet’s snaps have increased over time, leading to a career-high 569 rushing yards in 2024. Charbonnet actually <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/sea/2024-snap-counts.htm" rel="noopener">played 51 percent</a> of the Seahawks’ offensive snaps in 2024, as opposed to Walker’s 42 percent. Whenever Walker sits, Charbonnet’s snap share skyrockets to over 80 percent.</p><p>As Macdonald continues to settle into his new job, he is evidently a coach keen on slowly integrating “his guys” onto the team. Macdonald had no direct connection to Charbonnet before accepting the job. However, his close relationship with the Harbaugh brothers is worth noting, considering Charbonnet played for Jim Harbaugh for two years at Michigan. It is not a big factor, but the way Macdonald uses his running backs is similar to his former boss’ smashmouth offensive system.</p><p>The 6-foot-1 Charbonnet is much more equipped to handle the physical demands of Macdonald’s offense than the 5-foot-9 Walker is. While Macdonald is a defensive-minded coach, his <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seahawks-hire-klint-kubiak-to-be-mike-macdonalds-oc">hiring of Klint Kubiak as offensive coordinator</a> and Kennedy Polamalu as the Seahawks’ running back coach accentuates his track record. Kubiak tends to be reserved in his approach to the running game, while Polamalu is known for his expertise in physical run schemes.</p><p>Adding onto the trend, the Seahawks drafted gritty running back Damien Martinez in the final round of the 2025 NFL Draft. A seventh-round pick does not spell the end for a starter, but it does further crowd Seattle’s backfield. Martinez’s success in OTAs and minicamp appears to give the Seahawks another option, making a Walker trade easier to digest.</p><h2><b>Best Kenneth Walker landing spots</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Kenneth-Walker-on-Nov.-24-2024.jpg"><figcaption>Joe Nicholson-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While Walker’s career is trending in the wrong direction, he figures to be a player who would benefit from a change of scenery. With the 2025 running back market drier than a desert, Walker would be a premier name on the trade market. Many teams looking for upgrades at the position would be willing to fork over assets to acquire him on an expiring rookie deal.</p><p>Walker would be a substantial upgrade for a team like the New England Patriots, who struggled on the ground in 2024 and made few offseason additions. Walker could also be insurance for a team like the San Francisco 49ers, who can never be confident in Christian McCaffrey’s shaky durability.</p><p>The Jacksonville Jaguars would also be an intriguing option after they hired Shane Waldron as their passing game coordinator in February. Waldron served as Pete Carroll’s offensive coordinator with the Seahawks from 2021 to 2023, overlapping with Walker’s first two years. The Jaguars also hired Chad Morton as their running back coach, who worked in that same role with Seattle in 2022 and 2023.</p><p>A reunion with Carroll could also be possible on the Las Vegas Raiders. While Las Vegas is set with Ashton Jeanty leading its backfield, the team could benefit from adding Walker as an elite duo. The Raiders already <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/raiders-news-shocking-geno-smith-trade-seahawks">reunited Carroll with Geno Smith</a> in a previous trade with the Seahawks.</p><p>While Walker is not a premier running back, he would elevate any backfield in the league. His absence could also hurt the Seahawks more than they might anticipate, given how relatively unproven Charbonnet is as a full-time starter.</p><p>After making a flurry of moves early in the offseason, the Seahawks seem content with their 2025 offseason roster heading into training camp. He has played for five different teams. He started his career in Seattle from 2017-2020. Then, he played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, followed by the Houston Texans, the Carolina Panthers, and the Vikings. During his time in Seattle, he had four 59+ tackle seasons while earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2019.</p><p>Last season for the Vikings, Griffin had two interceptions and 41 tackles (33 solo). Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen are one of the top young cornerbacks in the league. At safety, the Seahawks have Coby Bryant and Julian Love. This is a unit that will disrupt opposing game plans with the ability to deflect passes, intercept them, and help with a run game. Witherspoon had 98 tackles last year, with 66 solo. Darnold showed he can strike deep while with the Minnesota Vikings. He’s even made off-platform throws like Stafford. The downside is Darnold’s injury history.</p><p>But here’s another reason why the chemistry will become instant. Darnold enters an offense that mirrors what the Vikings did under Kevin O’Connell. The only difference is Klint Kubiak <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/43829017/seahawks-offensive-coordinator-klint-kubiak-brings-more-balanced-scheme" rel="noopener">plans to be a little more run-oriented</a>. He’s prime to keep defenses on their toes as a throwing and running threat. The Seahawks added plenty of bodies during the offseason and will be forced to let some good players go after training camp.</p><p>But some Seahawks player might not even make it to training camp.</p><p>Below we will explore three Seahawks players who are in danger of being cut after 2025 mandatory minicamp.</p><h2><b>Where does John Rhys Plumlee fit on Seattle’s roster?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/John-Rhys-Plumlee-throwing-the-ball-at-practice.jpg"><figcaption>© Kirby Lee-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>John Rhys Plumlee is one of the most unique players on the Seattle’s roster heading into training camp.</p><p>Plumlee spent time at both quarterback and wide receiver during his collegiate career. He started at Ole Miss where he converted to wide receiver during the 2021 season. Plumlee transferred to UCF in 2022 and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ncaa-football/ucf-football-news-gus-malzahn-unfortunate-john-rhys-plumlee-injury-update">was the team’s starting quarterback</a> for the next two seasons.</p><p>Plumlee racked up rushing yards while playing quarterback at UCF, showcasing his athleticism that made him attempt to play receiver in the first place.</p><p>Another fun fact about Plumlee, he also played a few seasons of college baseball in addition to football.</p><p>Plumlee signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2024. He ended up leaving the Steelers after he was drafted third overall in the 2024 UFL Draft. He was later waived on August 27th.</p><p>Plumlee bounced around the league during the 2024 regular season. He spend some time in Jacksonville on the practice squad, but was released in November. Then he joined Seattle’s practice squad for the rest of the regular season before being signed to the active roster during the offseason.</p><p>One of Plumlee’s greatest strengths and weaknesses is his ability to play multiple positions. Being a utility player can work in college football, but it is much more difficult in the NFL.</p><p>Plumlee is under contract with the Seahawks as a wide receiver. It seems incredibly unlikely that he’ll ever play consider there are 11 other receivers on the roster.</p><p>There is not much room for Plumlee to compete at quarterback either after the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-jalen-milroe-real-approach-rookie-season">Seahawks drafted Jalen Milroe</a> as a developmental player.</p><p>I would not be surprised if Plumlee is cut before training camp.</p><h2><b>Tyreke Smith faces an uphill climb to make Seattle’s final roster</b></h2><p>Seahawks edge rusher Tyreke Smith is another player in serious danger heading into training camp.</p><p>The Seahawks drafted Smith in the fifth round back in the 2022 NFL Draft. Smith was considered an injury risk during his collegiate career and those concerns followed him into the NFL.</p><p>Smith missed his entire rookie season in Seattle after suffering a season-ending hip injury. He has also struggled with knee injuries and a concussion during his NFL career.</p><p>Smith played on Seattle’s practice squad during 2023, though he was briefly poached by the Cardinals late in the season. He remained on Seattle’s practice squad in 2024 but signed a reserve/futures contract in January ahead of the 2025 offseason.</p><p>The problem for Smith, aside from his concerning injury history, is how stacked Seattle’s edge rusher position is heading into the summer.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cowboys-news-dallas-loses-demarcus-lawrence-seahawks-42-million-deal">Seahawks signed DeMarcus Lawrence to a three-year contract</a> worth $42 million during free agency. He joins Boye Mafe, Uchenna Nwosu, and Derick Hall as the team’s top options at the position. Seattle also signed Mississippi edge rusher Jared Ivey as an undrafted free agent.</p><p>Smith must compete with the above players, plus a few other rotational players, for a spot on the team.</p><p>Smith is now 25 years old and has only played in one NFL game, where he only logged an assist. It feels like he will be the first edge rusher to be cut this offseason, and there’s no reason it couldn’t happen before training camp.</p><h2><b>Is this the end of Quinton Bohanna with the Seahawks?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Quinton-Bohanna-celebrates-a-successful-stop-with-James-Williams.jpg"><figcaption>© Casey Gower-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Quinton Bohanna is unquestionably the most talented, and experienced, player on this list.</p><p>Unfortunately, Seattle’s depth on the defensive line could mean the end of Bohanna’s time with the Seahawks as early as training camp.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-cut-ex-first-round-pick-flurry-of-moves">Bohanna joined the Seahawks on the practice squad</a> during the 2024 season.</p><p>The Seahawks already have established starters in Jarran Reed, Byron Murphy II, and Leonard Williams on the defensive line. Jonathan Hankins seems to have a good hold on the backup nose tackle position, which only leaves a few depth spots available at defensive end.</p><p>This is a problem for Bohanna primarily because he plays best at nose tackle.</p><p>I want to be clear that Bohanna likely won’t be cut before training camp. He’s thriving at the spot that produced Jamal Adams, Earl Thomas, and Kam Chancellor.</p><p>Love, though, is a sleeper to the rest of the league. He quietly thrived under Macdonald’s defensive scheme in his first year with the system.</p><p>Pro Football Focus is one that’s high on Love. <a href="https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-safety-rankings-top-32-ahead-of-2025-nfl-season" rel="noopener">The outlet ranked him just outside of the top 10</a> among safeties.</p><p>“Love’s play improved significantly under head coach Mike Macdonald. His 82.2 PFF overall grade in 2024 was a career high in his sixth season and ranked seventh among all safeties. His 89.5 PFF run-defense grade ranked second at the position, too,” PFF wrote.</p><p>Love even put that production up following his 2023 Pro Bowl campaign. Yet delivered a career-best 12 pass breakups. Hall even took a significant leap amid the regime change.</p><p>He went from zero sacks his rookie season to eight. Hall doubled his tackle for a loss total to six. He also forced two fumbles and started 14 games.</p><p>Macdonald found new methods to unleash Hall. But he increased his production in season two.</p><p>Charbonnet hit 569 yards, scored eight rushing touchdowns, plus racked up 909 total yards and scored one receiving TD.</p><p>The 6-foot-1, 214-pounder even has turned 64 total runs into first downs. His game isn’t built for short-yardage situations. Charbonnet hits defenses with a ground-and-pound approach. And perfect for Kubiak’s approach, even if it means splitting with Walker. He is now locked up through the 2029 NFL season.</p><p>Dickson is now the highest-paid punter in the NFL.</p><p>Dickson chose a great time to push for a new contract. His extension comes on the heels of multiple other NFL punters receiving contract extensions.</p><p>The Raiders locked up <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/las-vegas-raiders/raiders-news-lock-up-2-time-all-pro-4-year-extension">AJ Cole on a four-year, $15.8 million contract</a> at the end of May. Then the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/jaguars-news-jacksonville-signs-2024-all-pro-4-year-contract-extension">Jaguars extended All-Pro Logan Cooke</a> on a four-year contract on Monday.</p><p>By signing after these punters, Dickson helped guarantee that he gets the mantle of highest-paid punter in the league.</p><p>The Seahawks selected Dickson in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He has been incredible in Seattle, playing every single game of his NFL career.</p><p>Dickson earned All-Pro honors during his rookie season and has been a great punter ever since. Coming off an impressive first season under head coach Mike Macdonald, the Seahawks have a lot of roster changes forthcoming in the offseason.</p><p>Despite coming off their best season since 2020, the Seahawks remain committed to retooling their entire roster. After emotionally <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-tyler-lockett-announces-departure-10-seasons-message-fans">releasing 10-year veteran Tyler Lockett</a>, Seattle traded its other star wideout, DK Metcalf, to the Pittsburgh Steelers.</p><p>While somewhat expected, the moves were still impactful. However, nobody predicted the team would trade Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders. However, given the vast landscape of their rookie class, they are clearly determined to have a significant portion of them make an immediate impact.</p><h2><b>TE Noah Fant</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Noah-Fant-pointing.jpg"><figcaption>Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Seahawks entered Day Two of the 2025 NFL Draft with three picks and used one of their two second-round selections on Miami tight end Elijah Arroyo. The pick came one year after they took AJ Barner in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Considering the potential Barner showed in his limited action as a rookie, veteran Noah Fant now seems like the odd man out.</p><p>Fant is coming off a 500-yard campaign in 2024, his most since joining the Seahawks as a part of the Russell Wilson trade in 2022. However, he played <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/sea/2024-snap-counts.htm" rel="noopener">just 51.73 percent</a> of the team’s offensive snaps, as opposed to Barner’s 45.55 percent. Fant ceded most of the goal-line work to Barner and Pharaoh Brown, logging just four red zone targets all season and one touchdown.</p><p>Despite being the group veteran, Fant enters the offseason in the same position as Barner and Arroyo. With Smith gone, the rapport he developed with him in 2023 goes out the window. Fant is now in a position where he will compete with Arroyo in training camp to be the team’s top pass-catching tight end. Neither Fant nor Arroyo will threaten Barner’s role as the preferred red zone target, leaving them competing for snaps between the 20s.</p><p>As the incumbent starter, Fant entered the offseason with the high ground. But with Macdonald slowly taking over the team and deploying “his” guys, his leash is shorter than most. Barner is not going anywhere, and Arroyo is clearly a part of the team’s vision moving forward. Depending on how quickly Arroyo picks up on the offense over the summer, Fant could quickly find himself in no man’s land.</p><h2><b>WR Cooper Kupp</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Seattle-Seahawks-WR-Cooper-Kupp.jpg"><figcaption>Joe Camporeale-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>When the Seahawks released Lockett and traded Metcalf, the signs clearly pointed to Jaxon Smith-Njigba taking over as the team’s top wideout. He led the team with 1,130 receiving yards in 2024, but still hid in the shadows of Metcalf before the trade. Now, even with Seattle signing Kupp and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, the team’s passing game runs through Smith-Njigba.</p><p>Smith-Njigba’s emergence allowed him to take over the slot, forcing Lockett to an unnatural position on the outside. As a career slot receiver, Kupp figures to take Lockett’s old role. But while Kupp has historically been more productive than Lockett, his signing creates some mild confusion. The Seahawks released Lockett partially due to Smith-Njigba’s emergence, only to sign a similar player in Kupp.</p><p>The Seahawks tried to play Smith-Njigba on the outside in 2023, resulting in a disappointing rookie campaign. His receiving output nearly doubled in 2024 from the slot. That puts him at odds with Kupp, who is elite in the slot but subpar on the outside. Kupp played nearly 50 percent of his snaps at wideout in 2024, resulting in just 710 receiving yards, his fewest since 2018. Kupp will not return to that role in 2025, with Smith-Njigba being a far more effective player at this point in their careers.</p><p>With Macdonald using a fair amount of two-tight end sets, the Seahawks rarely deploy two slot receivers at once. Kupp will likely begin the year on the outside, where his route-running deficiencies are harder to mask. As Seattle transparently builds its offense around Smith-Njigba in 2025, it drafted explosive players like Arrroyo and Tory Horton who better complement his skill set.</p><p>Kupp, who turns 32 on June 15, still has a lot of name value. His signing with the Seahawks just made for a questionable situation, given the team’s current direction. With a lot of rookie talent behind him, Kupp might be a victim of being in the wrong place at the wrong time in 2025.</p><h2><b>S Coby Bryant</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Aaron-Jones-.jpg"><figcaption>Steven Bisig-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>With Julian Love and Coby Bryant manning the Seahawks’ secondary, safety seemed like a position they were settled on entering the 2025 NFL Draft. Yet, with their first pick of Day Two, Seattle spent one of its two defensive picks on South Carolina safety Nick Emmanwori.</p><p>After a stellar showing at the NFL Combine, the consensus on Emmanwori had him pegged as an immediate, day-one starter. That made the pick somewhat confusing, but Macdonald, a former defensive coordinator, knows what he sees in Emmanwori. His inclusion sets up an intriguing offseason with both Love and Bryant on high alert.</p><p>Love and Bryant had solid seasons in 2024, but the latter seems like the third wheel of the new puzzle. Macdonald loves utilizing two high safeties, making the position a premium on his teams. Love, an elite run-stopper — he received the <a href="https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/julian-love/51081" rel="noopener">second-highest run defense grade</a> for a safety on Pro Football Focus in 2024 — is the better tackler of the two. Bryant, a converted cornerback, is the preferred defender in coverage.</p><p>Like Bryant, Emmanwori is an elite coverage safety. However, the South Carolina product is a much more defined tackler than Bryant, racking up 88 stops with the Gamecocks in 2024.</p><p>Bryant still has high-end reaction skills, timing and recovery that the Seahawks still need in 2025. He is valuable near the line of scrimmage, much better than either Love or Emmanwori is. Even if Bryant loses his job to Emmanwori, he will not fall out of the rotation, as Macdonald likes rotating his players in the secondary. Regardless, with the second-year coach slowly assembling his ideal team, Bryant will have to re-earn his job in the offseason.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Last October, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-land-defensive-reinforcements-in-trade-with-jaguars" rel="noopener">Seahawks engaged in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars</a> for a defensive boost following a stash of injuries and three consecutive losses. </p><p>In return, they received veteran DL Roy Robertson-Harris while giving up a sixth-round draft pick. Robertson-Harris provided added depth and experience to a defensive line that was struggling. </p><p>Last season, the Seahawks finished with a poor run defense and issues on third downs. However, LB Ernest Jones IV <a href="https://www.seahawks.com/news/ernest-jones-iv-expects-seahawk-defense-to-be-something-crazy-in-2025" rel="noopener">anticipates a sea change</a> based on what he expects to see unfold during the offseason, per John Boyle of Seahawks.com. </p><p>“I think it’s going to be special,” Jones said when asked about the continuity on that side of the ball. “I’m excited. I don’t want to give too much away because we’ve to put in the work. But, if the vision lives up to what I think, yeah, it’s going to be something crazy. I like us versus anything and anybody. That’s how I’ll leave it.”</p><p>In March, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-ernest-jones-iv-33m-deal-free-agency" rel="noopener">Jones signed a $33 million deal</a> with the Seahawks for an additional 3 years. This deal was solidified just before Jones was slated to become a free agent. </p><p>While Jones won’t let in on what’s next, there is no question the Seahawk’s defense needs rebuilding. </p><h2><b>The Seahawks’ defense needs to make adjustments. </b></h2><p>Defensive coordinator Mike MacDonald is looking to steer the ship in a new direction by focusing on a few critical areas. Those include execution, tackling, and gap issues, as well as turning pressures into sacks and converting third downs. </p><p>MacDonald’s scheme is rooted in disguising pressure so that the offense won’t know what is coming. Strengthening that approach will help generate more sacks and tackles, as well as close gaps. </p><p>Their pass rush also needs to improve in converting those pressures into sacks. The team then <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-seattle-sam-darnold-agree-massive-100-million-contract">signed Sam Darnold to a three-year deal</a> to be their new quarterback after his incredible season with the Minnesota Vikings.</p><p>Along with Darnold, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-agree-sign-cooper-kupp-after-rams-release">Seahawks were able to pick up Cooper Kupp</a> after he was released by the Rams. Seattle made their team better this offseason with their pickups. They are taking a chance on Darnold, but there are high expectations for him. Seattle is also very happy with the draft they were able to put together in April.</p><p>In the first round, the Seahawks bolstered their offensive line by <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-grey-zabel-blessing-hall-of-famer-wear-no-76">taking Grey Zabel</a> from North Dakota State. The team also took safety Nick Emmanowri, tight end Elijah Arroyo, quarterback Jalen Milroe, defensive end Rylie Mills, wide receiver Tory Horton, fullback Robbie Ouzts, and four other players after the fifth round.</p><p>With all of these picks, there is bound to be one or two rookies that will stand out during OTAs, and have a great season. Which rookie has stood out in OTAs so far for the Seahawks?</p><h2><b>Nick Emmanowri standing out at OTAs</b></h2><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-nick-emmanwori-special-take-wearing-russell-wilson-no-3">player that is generating a lot of excitement is Nick Emmanowri</a>. He was the picked in the second round out of South Carolina. This is a player they traded up to get in the second round, as well. With that, the Seahawks not only filled a team need, but they took the best player available at the moment. Per Gregg Bell of the News Tribune, Emmanowri spent a lot of time taking starter reps on Monday. Additionally, defensive coordinator Aden Durde says the second-round pick looks “locked in” in OTAs.</p><p>In college, Emmanowri finished his junior year with 88 total tackles, and four interceptions. He returned two of those interceptions for a touchdown. He was a ballhawk and a great tackler in college. That is the type of playmaking the Seahawks are looking to get out of Emmanowri during his rookie campaign. If he keeps up what he is doing at OTAs, he is going to be very good for Seattle.</p><h2><b>Will Nick Emmanowri be a starter in year one?</b></h2><p>Emmanowri is already getting plenty of first team reps. With that in mind, Seattle clearly has high hopes for their second round pick. He will be playing behind Coby Bryant and Julian Love, and those are two very good starters in the Seahawks secondary. However, that does not mean Emmanowri will not become a starter.</p><p>Macdonald loves putting the extra safety on the field in his defensive packages. Emmanowri has the ability to play extremely well in coverage. He finished 2024 with a PFF <a href="https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/Nick-Emmanwori/158121/draft-profile" rel="noopener">coverage grade</a> of 86.8. His run defense was lower at 73.3, but his rushing defense is still very respectable. Along with that, Emmanowri did not allow a receiving touchdown in his final year at South Carolina.</p><p>He is a playmaker with the capability to be a starter in the NFL. Whether or not that happens right away is yet to be seen, but he will get a lot of playing time in Seattle.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

While <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-riskiest-move-2025-nfl-offseason">Darnold could be seen as a risky move for the Seahawks</a>, head coach Mike Macdonald believes otherwise, taking issue with the conversation around the former Minnesota Vikings signal-caller.</p><p>After trading Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, Seattle saw what Darnold did in his resurgence with Minnesota and acquired him with the thought of being their starter. When speaking with Seattle Sports, he would be asked about whether there’s a chance, aside from injury, that the team would go away from Darnold as the starter, leading to a <a href="https://x.com/SeattleSports/status/1929961030580613502" rel="noopener">“crazy”</a> admission from the coach.</p><p>“No, you guys are crazy,” Macdonald said. “I respect that you’ve got to ask it, but it’s just a crazy question. It’s just not going to happen. Sam’s our starting quarterback. We love him. Rebilas-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>As the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-mike-macdonald-reveals-why-hes-excited-to-work-with-sam-darnold">Seahawks coach has been excited to work with Darnold</a>, there’s no denying the struggles at the very moment, where in sessions open to the media, it hasn’t been pretty. According to ESPN, there was a part in the session where Darnold would lead the No. 1 offense, <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45445004/seahawks-mike-macdonald-scoffs-notion-sam-darnold-start" rel="noopener">throwing two picks in the span of three plays.</a></p><p>Still, Macdonald acknowledges the lowlights from Darnold, but makes sure to emphasize how it’s very early in Seattle’s offseason program.</p><p>“God forbid you’re the worst player of all time because you made one bad throw or one bad decision,” Macdonald said. “That is not what we’re trying to build. We want these guys to go prepare the right way and then when they go out on the practice field, go freaking let it rip, and then we’ll go fix it.”</p><p>“We’ve got time,” Macdonald continued. “It’s June 3. They’re going to get plenty of reps. We’ll get those things fixed. Sam made a lot of great throws yesterday — he was gashing us on third-and-goal to start the day out, too. So, yeah, it’s kind of a crazy question.”</p><p>At any rate, the Seahawks look to improve after finishing with a 10-7 record, which put them second in the NFC West. Darnold looks to have a productive summer as the team opens the upcoming season against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Sept. 7.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

But signing the quarterback <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-riskiest-move-2025-nfl-offseason">remains a risky move</a>. Adding the angst, Darnold flopped hard in his first session in front of the media.</p><p>The Seahawks traded steady quarterback Geno Smith and banked on Darnold, who had a resurgent season with the Vikings in 2024 before crumbling in the final two games of the season.</p><p>And in Darnold’s first curtain-opening session, he <a href="https://x.com/BradyHenderson/status/1929659603526341059" rel="noopener">tossed a pair</a> of interceptions in a 7-on-7 setting, according to a post on X by Brady Henderson.</p><p><i>Notes from the Seahawks’ fourth OTA, the first that was open to reporters:</i></p><p><i>-An up and down day for Sam Darnold, who was intercepted twice in a short span during a 7-on-7 period in the red zone. Julian Love got him first, then Josh Jobe picked off his scramble throw.</i></p><h2><b>What do Seahawks have in QB Sam Darnold?</b></h2><p>The good news is Darnold didn’t stay in the rut. Henderson noted that he turned things around.</p><p>Darnold bounced back after what sounded like some good-natured ribbing from OC Klint Kubiak, responding with TDs to UDFA WR Tyrone Broden and Cooper Kupp, and later to Zach Charbonnet and JSN. But all told, several plays died with Darnold holding onto the ball.</p><p>Making things tough for Darnold is the fact that the Seahawks didn’t invest enough <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45318618/2025-nfl-offseason-nfc-teams-best-worst-deals-contracts-draft-picks-superlatives" rel="noopener">in protecting him</a>, according to espn.com.</p><p>“It’s clear the longtime Seahawks GM (John Schneider) believes the players he has on the roster, almost all of whom are his draft picks, will improve,” Bill Barnwell wrote. “Some of that might be a product of a schematic shift. The Seahawks were a passive, dropback-heavy offense under Grubb. Kubiak should get them on the move more often and create more uncertainty for opposing defensive linemen to prevent rushers from pinning their ears back to go after the quarterback.</p><p>“Seahawks fans will need to hope Schneider is right, because the impact on Darnold could be devastating. Even during his resurgent 2024 season, his biggest weakness was his propensity for taking sacks. (It was) highlighted by a brutal end to the season in an ugly playoff loss to the Rams. Darnold ranked seventh in the league in QBR from a clean pocket. But when opposing teams got pressure on him, that dropped to 22nd. Since the start of 2018, his 17.2 QBR when pressured ranks 34th out of 50 quarterbacks with 900 dropbacks.”</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
