It’s a combination that has left teammates, especially wide receiver Darius Slayton, in awe of the Pro Bowler. Slayton <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/07/28/darren-wallers-freak-ability-impressing-giants/?utm_campaign=iphone_nyp&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social">openly wondered</a> how anyone could actually tackle Waller while speaking to reporters at training camp, per Paul Schwartz of the New York Post.</p><p>“A locomotive rolling real fast. Ain’t nobody tackling that, I think.”</p><p>“A locomotive” is a great way to describe Waller, who stands 6-foot-6 and weights 238 pounds but still has the wheels to run a 4.46 40-yard dash.</p><p>The Giants defense has indeed had quite a bit of trouble with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-news-darren-waller-dominating-training-camp-has-twitter-buzzing">Waller at training camp</a>, as safety Xavier McKinney called him “a tough cover every time”, per the Post.</p><p>After dealing with a slew of lower body injuries the past two years that limited him to just 20 games, Waller appears to finally be healthy.</p><p>And a healthy Waller was a nightmare for opposing defenses back in 2019 and 2020, as he tallied 90-plus receptions and over 1100 receiving yards in both of those seasons, emerging as one of the best vertical threats in the league at the tight end spot.</p><p>The Giants are hoping Waller can return to that form in 2023, as the offense, while loaded with depth at the receiver spots, lacks a true alpha pass-catcher for quarterback Daniel Jones to lean on.</p><p>At his best, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/darren-waller-fantasy-football-outlook-2023-nfl-season">Waller can be</a> that guy. The reason for hesitation, however, should not be influenced by what other people do. Following the herd does can lead you into utter catastrophe. This is not a sermon but rather another way to interpret New York Giants’ Darius Slayton’s viewpoint on the Saquon Barkley contract saga.</p><p>The fifth-year wide receiver took to Twitter to address a comment made by SNY reporter Connor Hughes- which used <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bengals-news-joe-mixon-restructured-new-contract-details" rel="noopener">Joe Mixon’s new contract restructure</a> as a means to point out why the Giants have no incentive to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl-rumors-giants-best-offer-saquon-barkley-too-low-guaranteed-money" rel="noopener">break the bank</a> for a running back. Hughes is completely right from a business perspective. Mixon is taking a pay cut to stay with the Bengals and compete for a Super Bowl. No one has met Dalvin Cook’s high asking price as of yet. Austin Ekeler has scored a combined 38 touchdowns the last two seasons and Josh Jacobs was arguably the best pure runner in the NFL last year. Both are without long-term contract extensions.</p><p>Whether it be the opportunity to take a starting back in the draft or the durability issues that naturally result from the weekly grind, league demand seems lower than ever. To Slayton’s point, though, Saquon Barkley was a big part of New York’s resurgence. His 1,650 all-purpose yards and 10 touchdowns went a long way in propping up a limited offense and reaching the postseason.</p><p>And so, the standstill remains. Will general manager Joe Schoen fall in love with the player or continue to abide by the market rules? They have lacked a star wideout since trading Odell Beckham Jr. But in the eyes of Darius Slayton, that doesn’t mean that New York has entirely been without a high-level target.</p><p>Slayton, who was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-news-new-york-makes-big-darius-slayton-move-after-trade-rumors" rel="noopener">on the trade block</a> to start last season but stayed ready and had a solid campaign with New York, has never been seen as a WR1 during his four-year career but he <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/07/06/giants-darius-slayton-rejects-idea-hes-not-legit-no-1-receiver/" rel="noopener">does not worry about outside criticism</a>, according to Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post. The Giants wideout puts in work and knows what he’s capable of.</p><p>“I wouldn’t say it bothers me because everybody doesn’t know what I know,” Slayton said, via the New York Post. “Everybody is not in the Giants’ building. At the end of the day, you can only judge based on what you see from afar.”</p><p>Slayton has been decently productive for the Giants but is always seen as more of a role player. His frequent dropped passes shape that narrative but so too does the fact that he has never had so much as 800 receiving yards in a single season. In his eyes, that’s simply because he shares touches with other talented players, one of whom will be new acquisition Darren Waller.</p><p>“You see this guy go for 1,010 [yards] or see a guy go for 100 yards every week, and you go, ‘He’s really good,’” Slayton said, via the New York Post. “Some of these guys play with nobody. I play with Saquon [Barkley]. Where do you think the ball is going first? Not me. We had Shep, Evan Engram and now Darren.”</p><p>That comment is curious given that just about every star wideout plays with either another high-level pass-catcher or a great running back. Regardless, Slayton’s main goal is to help the Giants win, a goal that will be aided by Waller and other new additions to Daniel Jones’ <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-news-darius-slayton-strong-take-on-two-new-daniel-jones-weapons-will-hype-up-giants-fans" rel="noopener">collection of skill-player weapons</a>.</p><p>“I didn’t play with just a bunch of bums. Among such moves that he has completed, he brought in Jalin Hyatt and Darren Waller.</p><p>Schoen pulled off trades to haul in the two. He traded two picks to the Los Angeles Rams to acquire the No. 73 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft. Hyatt then became the 10th wideout to be selected in this year’s NFL Draft.</p><p>Hyatt took part in the Giants’ rookie minicamp schedule, and he has been a regular at their OTAs. The former Tennessee standout left a strong <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uxPp_EAyME" rel="noopener">first impression</a> on multiple Giants wide receivers, including Darius Slayton.</p><p>“And Hyatt obviously could fly,” Slayton said during a press conference at the Giants’ OTAs. “I could fly. You turn on the film, it’s a whole lot of flying. I mean, it’s fun to watch, fun to play with guys like that. … I hate to say speed, but he’s fast.</p><p>“Like I said, he can play. You can see the talent. Not just his speed. He has a little viral video of him telling the coach he can route run and stuff. I think he does route run well. He catches the ball well. I think just all the way around he’s a very talented player.”</p><p>The Giants acquired Waller from the Las Vegas Raiders in March in exchange for a third-round pick. As with Hyatt, Slayton has been left quite impressed with the veteran tight end.</p><p>“I kind of like try to stand away from him,” Slayton said. “You get a picture too close; it’s Slay is really small. So don’t get too close. But he’s impressive. I kind of just was telling someone, he’s like what it looks like. Somebody asks what’s an NFL tight end, you just point to Darren Waller; big, fast, can catch it. He’s been a great addition to our team.”</p><p>Waller featured in five seasons with the Raiders, where he tallied 286 receptions and 17 touchdown catches. He left in the third quarter due to an ankle injury, and was briefly replaced by Tyrod Taylor. On his first drive, Tyrod Taylor suffered a concussion. That forced Jones to return to the game, and basically just hand the ball off to Saquon Barkley for the majority of the fourth quarter.</p><p>Saquon Barkley had a productive day with 146 yards on the ground, but he had a wild play on a broken screen, which some Giants fans are bringing up for a specific reason. That reason? That is what Brisker referenced in his original Tweet. His points include reinvesting in the offensive line, building a running game through scheme and the track record of running backs not aging well.</p><p>This is a debate Giants fans are familiar with going back to when the team selected Barkley at number two overall in 2018. Running backs are viewed as one of the least-valuable positions in football.</p><p>Schneier also mentioned that day three picks have been productive in the past, and cost less than $1 million for four years because of the way rookie contracts work in the NFL.</p><p>Darius Slayton did not like the idea of letting Barkley go, saying that “Saquon Quadriceps Barkley Sr.” could not be replaced with a day three pick.</p><p>Schneier responded claiming that he is advocating for <a href="https://twitter.com/DanSchneierNFL/status/1620093427311579136?s=20&amp;t=E4XBQumSawhKiax3NBY6dw" rel="noopener">reallocating the money to other positions</a>, rather than expecting a day three draft pick to replicate Barkley’s production.</p><p>Speaking to the media the day after the Giants were eliminated from the playoffs, Barkley said he is <a href="https://twitter.com/SNYGiants/status/1617207814165872641?s=20&amp;t=6vnZZjwl_FwMRLDs15TWZg" rel="noopener">not looking to reset the market.</a></p><p>Barkley reportedly <a href="https://twitter.com/RalphVacchiano/status/1617582378607689730?s=20&amp;t=6vnZZjwl_FwMRLDs15TWZg" rel="noopener">rejected an extension</a> worth around $12 million a year during the bye, according to Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports.</p><p>The franchise tag deadline is on March 7, and if the Giants do not have a deal with Barkley by then, they could be incentivized to use it on him. The franchise tag for running backs is estimated to be $10.1 million in 2023.</p><p>That could be a good move for the Giants, but Daniel Jones is a free agent as well, and teams can only use the tag on one player.</p><p>It will be an interesting offseason for the Giants. Darius Slayton calls out fantasy football writer for Saquon Barkley ‘blasphemy’

Shep (Sterling Shepard) being one of those guys. I know they are really close. But, I’m all for anybody that will help our team. If he wants to come here and sign here, I think he knows where home is. I’ll leave it at that.”</p><p>At 7-3, Slayton and the Giants have reportedly found themselves in the mix to land Beckham. The veteran pass catcher is expected to visit with the team in the coming days.</p><p>Following the loss of <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-news-new-yorks-worst-wandale-robinson-injury-fears-come-true" rel="noopener">rookie wide receiver</a> Wan’Dale Robinson, who suffered a torn ACL on Sunday, Beckham could play a lead role in this Giants offense.</p><p>Throughout this season, Slayton has emerged as the Giants top pass catcher. After almost being released prior to the start of the season, Slayton has finally found his form again.</p><p>Over the past four games, Slayton has recorded 304 receiving yards, and two touchdowns on 16 receptions.</p><p>With the loss of Robinson, the Giants <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/team/stats/_/name/nyg/new-york-giants" rel="noopener">offense</a> will be missing a critical piece. The rookie receiver recorded 23 receptions for 227 receiving yards and one touchdown over six games. This includes a nine-reception, 100-yard receiving game prior to getting hurt in Week 11.</p><p>Darius Slayton will have an expanded role with Robinson out, but the Giants are in need of help at wide receiver. Shepard is set to undergo more tests to determine the extent of his injury, but initial reactions from some of the Giants did not sound too optimistic.</p><p>Giants wideout Darius Slayton admitted that it was difficult to see Sterling Shepard go down with such an injury.</p><p>Via <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/34673836/sources-initial-tests-reveal-serious-knee-injury-new-york-giants-wr-sterling-shepard" rel="noopener">Jordan Raanan of ESPN</a>:</p><p>“It’s tough. I’m not even going to lie. It’s hard not to get choked up about it,” Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton said of seeing the injury. “He’s been here since the first day I got drafted. He’s done a lot for me as a young guy. And then seeing him come off the Achilles last year and rehab all year, and how hard he fought to get back out there, it’s definitely hard to see.”</p><p>Giants head coach Brian Daboll <a href="https://twitter.com/JordanRaanan/status/1574607556273577985" rel="noopener">said</a> that he “feels terrible for the guy [Sterling Shepard].”</p><p>Sterling Shepard hurt his knee near the end of regulation and if the worst fears turn out to be true, it means that he will no longer be able to play for the Giants the rest of the season at least.</p><p>Before his injury, Shepard had 49 receiving yards on five catches and 10 targets.</p><p>If Sterling Shepard misses any time the Giants might be forced to give more playing time to beleaguered <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-news-kenny-golladay-trade-scenario-a-possibility-amid-playing-time-concerns/">wideout</a> Kenny Golladay and add a heavier workload for running back Saquon Barkley.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Darius Slayton <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-rumors-darius-slayton-could-be-on-the-move-nfl-trade-deadline/">has been in trade rumors</a> as the Giants looked to shed salary and make more room on the roster. For the time being, the 25-year-old wide receiver will remain on the roster after agreeing to restructure his contract.</p><p>According to Tom Rock of Newsday, Slayton has agreed to a pay cut that saves the Giants $1.6 million in cap space. It saves the Giants from having to cut a player simply for financial reasons (like how they had to do with top cornerback James Bradberry) and gets them some cap space. For Slayton, he keeps his roster spot as he tries to work his way back up the depth chart.</p><p>After two seasons with <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/SlayDa01.htm">well over 700 receiving yards</a>, Slayton didn’t even crack half of that last season. With Kenny Golladay, Sterling Shepard, Kadarius Toney and Wan’Dale Robinson above him in the pecking order, his place on the offense is shrinking quickly. There were whispers that Slayton may not even make the 53-man roster and could ultimately be released by New York. But he ended up making the initial 53-man roster on Tuesday. So that means the Giants are either planning to utilize him on the roster or trade him sooner rather than later. And Slayton is well aware of the trade rumors.</p><p>The Giants wide out hilariously <a href="https://twitter.com/MarkCannizzaro/status/1564694644822245377">addressed</a> the trade talks, per Mark Cannizzaro.</p><p>“If the Rams call them and they’re like, ‘Hey, we’ll give you Aaron Donald for Darius Slayton,’ I’d make that trade, too.’”</p><p>Slayton understands that he’s not the best player in the NFL and would trade himself for Donald. But he is someone who has value. If a trade were to come to fruition, the Giants would receive a quality haul in return. The Giants are not going to land Aaron Donald in a Darius Slayton deal, but New York will receive good value for the receiver.</p><p>Slayton is preparing to enter his fourth year in the NFL. He’s spent his first three years in New York with the Giants. However, he reeled in just 26 receptions last year. But Slayton was productive from 2019-2020. He tallied a combined total of 98 receptions, 1,491 yards, and 11 touchdowns between these two seasons.</p><p>So he is someone who could be a valuable weapon for a team.</p><p>We will continue to monitor Darius Slayton’s situation with the Giants ahead of the 2022 NFL season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Slayton has shown a lot of potential throughout the start of his career with the Giants, but was largely phased out of the offense last season with the additions of Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney to the offense.</p><p>Despite that, the Giants have not moved Slayton off their roster with less than three hours to go until their roster needs to be at the 53-man limit. Even if Slayton doesn’t get traded, it was widely expected he <a href="https://www.al.com/sports/2022/08/giants-darius-slayton-wont-be-surprised-on-tuesday.html">would get released</a> and not be a part of the final roster. This could suggest the Giants are working on a trade for Slayton, or conversely, they are struggling to find suitors and are holding out hope someone will emerge at the last second looking for wide receiver help.</p><p>Chances are Slayton won’t be on New York’s roster by the end of the day, but it’s interesting to see the Giants haven’t moved him just yet. With all rosters needing to be at 53 players by tomorrow at 4 PM EST, teams are going to explore every possible way they can to create space on their roster. Releasing players is obviously the easiest way, but some players could end up being traded, and it looks like the New York Giants are exploring that avenue as they attempt to whittle their roster down to 53 players.</p><p>One player whose name has popped up across the league is Darius Slayton. Slayton seems likely to get <a href="https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/08/29/darius-slayton-wont-be-surprised-if-giants-cut-him/">boxed out</a> of the Giants wide receiver room, and probably won’t make the roster. If you couldn't tell, he's from Chicago.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NFL</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>A Deshaun Watson deal is what everybody is looking out for at the 2021 NFL trade deadline, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/texans-rumors-deshaun-watson-trade-to-dolphins-hits-roadblock-after-shock-houston-move/" rel="noopener">even if it feels like a long shot right now</a>, but he’s not the only notable name who could be on the move. It has been a disappointing season for the Giants wide receiver, who has only played in five games because of health issues. He played in the first three games of the season and then missed the next three because of a hamstring injury, returning in Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers and actually putting up a decent game with five catches for 63 yards.</p><p>Then came the dud against the Chiefs as the Giants fell to 2-6 in 2021 right ahead of the trade deadline. Slayton is apparently drawing interest from other teams, and perhaps New York looks to make a deal.</p><p>The 24-year-old impressed as a rookie with eight touchdown catches but took a step back in 2020 and has done so again in 2021, though it’s obviously not all his fault because of injuries and a rough team situation. Although one can definitely go that route, it’s hard to put the blame on the Giants QB after he threw that pass under pressure and still managed to locate Slayton who was all alone as he approached the end zone.</p><p>Others are saying that a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-fans-furious-over-dexter-lawrence-game-losing-penalty-vs-washington/">late-game penalty</a> was to blame to try and deflect all the hate that is coming Slayton’s way, which is again a valid point. But, we do have to reiterate that this was such a makeable play and a WR of Darius Slayton’s <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-video-darius-slayton-makes-incredible-catch-for-second-td-vs-lions/">caliber</a> is expected to convert on a huge play like this.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
