However, it appears they <a href="https://x.com/JamesPalmerTV/status/1843361422274879672" rel="noopener">will get the duo back</a> for Week 6.</p><p>Via James Palmer:</p><p>“My understanding is the Eagles are expecting to have their top WRs A.J. Brown (hamstring) and DeVonta Smith (concussion) back this week vs the Browns.”</p><p>Brown has missed three straight games with a hamstring injury that happened after a Week 1 win in Brazil over the Green Bay Packers. The Eagles are definitely being cautious with their top wideout who is crucial to this team’s success. In the season opener, Brown reeled in five catches for 119 yards and a touchdown. Hamstring issues can take a while to heal as well. By the time Week 6 rolls around, it’ll be over a month since he last suited up.</p><p>As for Smith, he took a hard hit against the New Orleans Saints in Week 3 and was put in concussion protocol. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/eagles-news-aj-brown-devonta-smith-status-week-4">The former Alabama standout missed Week 4 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers</a>. Smith’s role was larger with Brown out, collecting a team-high 21 receptions for 239 yards and a touchdown.</p><p>Philadelphia’s offense was extremely depleted without their two best WRs in Week 4 and it hurt them. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/eagles-most-to-blame-for-week-4-loss-to-buccaneers">The Eagles were smashed 33-16</a> by the Buccaneers, with quarterback Jalen Hurts producing just 158 passing yards. Saquon Barkley dominated on the ground but the pass game was non-existent for the Birds.</p><p>At 2-2, Nick Sirianni’s squad has to start playing better. Getting back a pair of key offensive pieces should definitely help. Brown and Smith are two of the best wideouts in the league. The Browns, their Week 6 opponent, currently sit at 1-4. The Eagles haven’t played Cleveland since 2020, losing 22-17. One of those players was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/eagles-devonta-smith-suffers-scary-head-injury-vs-saints">DeVonta Smith, who was blindsided by rookie Khristian Boyd</a> after catching a pass from Jalen Hurts in the second half. I don’t think we ever have played dirty. It’s not the way we coach it, not the way we teach it, but we do play hard.</p><p>“Look, nobody wants to see anybody get hurt, nobody’s trying to hurt anybody and, unfortunately, that’s part of the business that we’re in. No, we don’t play dirty. We don’t coach dirty, but we do play hard and we do play physical.”</p><p>On the other hand, the Philadelphia Eagles took the hit as a cheap shot, most notably C.J. Gardner-Johnson.</p><p>“Man, that’s the dirtiest s–t I ever saw in football, bro,” Gardner-Johnson said. “Y’all obviously saw forward progression was stopped. For them to take a cheap shot on one of our key players, it goes to show what type of team that is. They’re front-runners.”</p><p>The Saints will be looking to bounce back after taking the Week 3 loss, and they’ll be facing their division rival Atlanta Falcons in Week 4. The NFL fined Khristian Boyd $4,600 for his hit on Smith.</p><p>As of now, it looks like the Eagles and Jalen Hurts will have to step up, and they still have the talent to win games while their top options are out. The Eagles have some options on offense that can help take the pressure off of Hurts, and they made some big plays already in Week 3.</p><p>Running back Saquon Barkley had a big touchdown run that gave them the lead in the fourth quarter, and tight end Dallas Goedert essentially won the Eagles the game with his catch late in the game that got them down in the redzone.</p><p>Other players on the team such as Paris Campbell and Jahan Dotson are going to need to step up if the Eagles want to make up for their injuries. It’ll be a tough road test against the Buccaneers, so it would be interesting to see if they can stay competitive. He is expected to be sidelined for several weeks while the injury heals, adding to the team’s growing list of key absences.</p><p>Covey <a href="https://x.com/JFMcMullen/status/1839358997108842681" rel="noopener">won’t require surgery</a> but is struggling with daily activities, including sleeping and caring for his child, due to the injury, according to Eagles insider John McMullen.</p><p>“Just caught up with Britain Covey,” McMullen wrote on his X account. “Confirmed a broken scapula. Expects to miss six weeks or so but no surgery. Painful injury. He said sleeping is tough and daddy duty is more difficult. Has been sitting next to Cooper DeJean in ST meetings since the spring. Expects the rookie to be ready at PR.”</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/3-eagles-reasons-for-concern-after-narrow-week-3-victory-over-saints">Eagles are already grappling with injuries</a> to key players, including wide receiver A.J. Brown, who has missed the last two games due to a hamstring issue, and DeVonta Smith, who sustained a concussion during Sunday’s win over the New Orleans Saints.</p><p>So far in 2024, Covey has recorded 34 receiving yards on seven catches and returned one punt for nine yards. Earlier this week, the Eagles placed him on injured reserve due to his broken scapula.</p><h2><b>Eagles WR Britain Covey arrived in Philly in 2022</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Britain-Covey-runs-against-the-New-Orleans-Saints-in-Week-3.jpg"><figcaption>Stephen Lew-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>A native of Provo, Utah, Covey made an immediate impact during his freshman year at the University of Utah. With 519 yards on 43 catches, he led the Pac-12 in receiving yards per game, total receiving yards, catches per game, touchdown receptions, and overall receptions.</p><p>A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Covey missed his sophomore and junior seasons at Utah while participating in an LDS mission in Chile. Upon his return, he’d lead his team with 1,400 all-purpose yards as a senior while also racking up 514 yards on 47 catches.</p><p>Despite going undrafted in 2022, Covey was signed by the Eagles as a free agent and went on to participate in Super Bowl LVII. Covey followed up his rookie season by leading the NFL with 417 total punt return yards in 2023 and earning a spot as a Pro Bowl alternate.</p><p>So far in his NFL career, he’s racked up 734 yards on punt returns.</p><p>The shorthanded Eagles will be taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa this Sunday, where they will attempt to improve to 3-1 so far in 2024.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Jalen Hurts had to distribute the ball against the Saints since he didn’t have A.J. Brown, and things got worse when <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/eagles-devonta-smith-suffers-scary-head-injury-vs-saints">DeVonta Smith went down during the game</a>. Heading into their Week 4 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, both Brown and Smith were <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1839012916818805185" rel="noopener">not seen</a> at the start of practice, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.</p><p>“No signs of AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, nor Lane Johnson for the start of today’s Eagles practice,” Schefter tweeted on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>As of now, there’s a real chance that Hurts will be without his top two receivers, and he’ll have to make things work with the other options on the team.</p><h2>Jalen Hurts has to lead Eagles without top offensive weapons</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Jalen-Hurts-1.jpg"><figcaption>Stephen Lew-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/eagles-news-aj-browns-concerning-injury-admission-during-falcons-gameeagles-news-aj-browns-concerning-injury-admission-during-falcons-game">A.J. Saquon Barkley got off on a big touchdown run that gave them the lead in the fourth quarter, and tight end Dallas Goedert essentially won the Eagles the game win his catch late in the game that got them down in the redzone.</p><p>Other receivers will of course have to step up, but Jahan Dotson and Paris Campbell.
