Left tackle Andrew Thomas, who suffered a foot injury in second half of the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-most-to-blame-for-week-6-loss-to-bengals">team’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals</a>, requires surgery that will “most likely” end his season, per Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz.</p><p>Thomas is considering all his options, but he may have no other choice than to spend the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign in recovery. The devastating setback would severely hamper the offense and possibly put inconsistent quarterback Daniel Jones under great duress.</p><p>Giants fans have been waiting for what feels like an eternity for the organization to repair the O-Line, and while Pro Football Focus still ranks the unit <a href="https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-offensive-line-rankings-week-6-2024" rel="noopener">in the bottom-third</a> in the league, improvements have been made. The 2022 Second-Team All-Pro is arguably the most dependable player New York has in its trenches, so head coach Brian Daboll could be forced to dramatically alter his game plan moving forward.</p><h2><b>The Andrew Thomas injury portends potential doom for Giants’ offense</b></h2><p>Despite allowing four sacks this season, Thomas is a valuable part of the run-blocking game. His anticipated absence will leave Jones extremely vulnerable to incoming pass-rushers, which could result in the turnover-prone QB reverting to his worst habits. Serious shuffling and adjustments figure to be made before Sunday’s divisional battle with the visiting Philadelphia Eagles (3-2).</p><p>Andrew Thomas’ long-term health is obviously the top priority, though. Even if he is able to man the blind spot again this year, New York does not presently appear to be in position to genuinely compete. It could be deemed impractical for management to ask its best offensive lineman to risk further injury in what could quickly become a lost season.</p><p>No matter what happens, however, the squad must find a way to form a passable wall of protection. The Giants’ main focus in 2024-25 should be <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-news-brian-daboll-giants-reality-check-7-point-vs-bengals">offensive development</a>, and that cannot happen if there is no time to execute a play. Facing a Joe Burrow-led offense that ranks fifth in the NFL in EPA per play, the unit allowed only 10 points and 240 yards of offense before a drive in the final minutes.</p><p>However, as has been the case during the Daniel Jones era, New York’s offense was nowhere to be found in primetime. Wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/10/15/sports/giants-offense-at-risk-of-causing-friction-amid-defensive-dominance/" rel="noopener">said the Giants’ offense knows it let the defense down</a> after another no-show.</p><p>“They don’t really say too much about it or anything, but just internally, we feel like we let those guys down,’’ Robinson told the New York Post’s Paul Schwartz. “I feel like they played a helluva game, and we just didn’t go out there and put up enough points for those guys. There’s no blame or anything like that. It’s football. There could be one game when we’re clicking and they might not be clicking the way that they want. We’re one big team, and everybody holds each other accountable. There’s no blame to go around.’’</p><p>With a chance to climb to .500, the MetLife stadium crowd was lively entering Sunday’s matchup. However, their team’s offense gave them little to cheer about. The Giants are averaging 9.3 points with one total touchdown through three home games this season.</p><h2>Why Giants offense’s primetime woes continued against Bengals</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/dj-imagn.jpg"><figcaption>Brad Penner-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/why-seahawks-in-trouble-surprising-loss-giants">Jones sparked optimism with a high-level performance</a> during a Week 5 win over the Seahawks. However, he could not replicate that success against the Bengals with star wideout Malik Nabers sidelined again.</p><p>The sixth-year signal caller completed 22-of-41 passes for 205 yards. Their offense <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-news-brian-daboll-giants-reality-check-7-point-vs-bengals">did not record a single play over 15 yards</a> against the Bengals. They rank 27th in the NFL with 13 plays of 20-plus yards this season.</p><p>While Jones connected with Darius Slayton on a pair of deep balls against Seattle, he could not punish an aggressive Bengals offense down the field. After his quarterback missed on several deep shots early, head coach Brian Daboll reverted to a more conservative game script. Jones <a href="https://x.com/Doug_Analytics/status/1845669674563874990" rel="noopener">finished the game with an average depth of completion</a> of 2.2 air yards, tied for the lowest of his career, according to Doug Analytics.</p><p>“It’s hard to win games when you score seven points. That’s the reality of it,” Daboll said. “We just couldn’t generate any explosive plays. We [had one brought back] by a penalty. And then other than that, we didn’t hit any explosive plays. That’s it in a nutshell before me watching [the film].”</p><p>Jones has a 1-14 record in primetime games with the Giants. Their <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-news-brian-daboll-giants-reality-check-7-point-vs-bengals">offense could not move the ball</a>, getting shutout in the first half and only finishing one drive. The defense was spectacular, holding a high-flying Cincinnati offense to the second-fewest points of the season. Why are Daniel Jones, Andrew Thomas, and Greg Joseph to blame?</p><p>The first half of the game has only one offensive highlight. Joe Burrow scampered for a 47-yard touchdown to open the scoring after the Giants defense forced third down. They did not let the Bengals’ pass game get rolling and gave the offense plenty of opportunities to tie the game.</p><p>The Giants got the ball to start the second half and marched right down the field. Tyrone Tracy punched in a touchdown to continue his stellar rookie season and tie the game. That was it for the offense, as the Bengals scored on another running play and ran out the clock at the end of the game. That begins to explain why Daniel Jones is to blame.</p><h2><b>The Daniel Jones questions continue in New York</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Daniel-Jones-with-New-York-Giants-1.jpg"><figcaption>Kevin Wexler-NorthJersey.com / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>This entire season is about whether or not the Giants should keep Daniel Jones on the massive contract he signed after 2022. They have an out that won’t kill the salary cap and can draft a quarterback in the first round. Jones showed why he can be a franchise guy in two wins over the Browns and Seahawks but faltered in this matchup. Jones has to show some consistency to keep his job as the Giants quarterback.</p><p>The Bengals’ defense had been terrible this season. Jacoby Brissett and the Patriots scored 16 points against this group in Week 1. Since then, every team has cracked 20 points including Andy Dalton and the Panthers. The Giants had momentum after putting up <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-news-wandale-robinson-stops-live-stream-brian-daboll-message">23 points on offense against the Seahawks</a>. They faltered under the primetime lights.</p><p>The schedule will not be getting any easier for the Giants. Their next three games are against teams with winning records the Eagles, Steelers, and Commanders. Jones must turn it around against a vulnerable Philadelphia defense.</p><h2><b>Andrew Thomas and the Giants’ offensive line go quiet</b></h2><p>The Giants have had offensive line issues since the end of Eli Manning’s career. They drafted Evan Neal in the first round and he turned into a bust. They also took Andrew Thomas in the first round and he has become the lynchpin of a great line in 2024. Jermaine Eluemunor has come in to play right tackle and changed their entire outlook. In this game, it was Thomas who took a brutal penalty and looked terrible otherwise.</p><p>Jones hit Darius Slayton down the sideline for 56 yards to finally kickstart the offense. The officials threw a flag and called Thomas for illegal man downfield. The Giants’ offense did not do anything else for the entire game. While blame for the loss is primarily on Jones, the penalty was key in the loss.</p><p>Trey Hendrickson also dominated Thomas in the trenches all night. The defensive end had two sacks, three quarterback hits, and two tackles for loss. Hendrickson is a solid player but there are better defensive ends in the league that Thomas will have to face. He must figure out his issues before he faces Micah Parsons in a few weeks. He got an MRI on his foot, <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/10/14/sports/andrew-thomas-getting-mri-on-foot-after-rough-giants-showing/" rel="noopener">which might</a> explain the rough game.</p><h2><b>Greg Joseph and the kicking woes continue</b></h2><p>Giants’ kicker <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-news-new-york-kicker-graham-gano-injury">Graham Gano is usually spectacular but was injured in their Week 1 loss</a> to the Vikings. He tried to kick in Week 2 against the Commanders but could not do it and cost his team the game. General manager Joe Schoen went out and grabbed former Viking Greg Joseph to replace Gano. Since his arrival, Joseph has been poor.</p><p>He missed two field goals from over 40 yards in this matchup that could have tied the game or decreased the lead in the second half. The Giants could have had the ball down seven in the final minute. Instead, they were down ten and had to try another field goal and set up an onside kick. Joseph missed that one too and ended the game.</p><p>The Giants need a new kicker that can hit from over 40 yards. Long field goals are a very important part of the NFL today and not having a kicker who can nail them is a massive detriment.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Moss has given the offense quality production with 211 yards on 57 rushing attempts and two touchdowns this season. Brown and Moss have been operating in a timeshare, but over the previous two contests, it seems that Brown was slowly pulling ahead as the primary ball-carrier. There were many signs of encouragement in their Week 5 loss to the Ravens, but the defensive struggles allowed them to fall short once again. Cincinnati’s passing game with Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins have reestablished a strong rhythm, and Taylor will look to keep leaning on it in the upcoming games.</p><p>Their running game has given a reliable source of yardage and points. Brown has 41 carries for 230 yards and two touchdowns, and he’s averaged 13.5 carries for 63 yards in his previous two outings. They can sneakily climb back to .500 by defeating the incoming Cincinnati Bengals (1-4) this Sunday night. In order to do so, however, head coach Brian Daboll might need another big game from his rookie running back.</p><p>Devin Singletary is <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1845210465695129872" rel="noopener">being ruled out</a> for the Week 6 matchup, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The veteran has been an iron man for much of his career, but he will now be sidelined with a groin injury for the second consecutive week after previously not missing a game since 2019. Tyrone Tracy Jr. is in line to carry another sizable workload in light of this latest update.</p><p>The 2024 fifth-round draft pick out of Iowa and Purdue torched the Seattle Seahawks for 129 rushing yards (7.2 yard per carry) in last Sunday’s 29-20 win. Assuming Tracy can produce against an exploitable Bengals defense, more opportunities should open up for quarterback Daniel Jones.</p><p>The Giants will want to prolong drives as much as possible and limit Cincinnati’s possessions, considering the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-news-malik-nabers-ruled-out-for-week-6-clash-vs-bengals">continued absence of Malik Nabers</a> makes a potential shootout an unfavorable game script for the G-Men to follow. Old-school New York football seems like the squad’s most optimal path to a second straight win.</p><h2><b>Have the Giants turned a corner?</b></h2><p>A home victory over the Bengals can set the stage for a highly intriguing NFC East collision with the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7. The Giants still have an innumerable amount of skeptics, but this could be a different and rejuvenated team. Just look at last week. The team brought in five punters to evaluate on Friday, and Haack stood out to the coaches.</p><p>The Giants have had their fair share of bad luck when it comes to the special teams. In Week 2, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-news-graham-ganos-latest-injury-update-new-york-looking-kicker">the Giants lost Graham Gano</a> because of a similar hamstring issue that was bothering him before the game, and they were essentially forced to go for two each time they scored. That, of course, resulted in a crucial NFC East loss. The 30-year-old averaged a career-best 51.7 yards per punt in 2023, and he’s made 432 punts for 19,242 yards over his seven years in the NFL.</p><p>The Giants have won two out of their last three games, and have been playing much better football since their ugly start to the season. They will look for their second win against an AFC opponent when they face the 1-4 Bengals in Week 6. They <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bengals-news-joe-burrow-slaps-cincinnati-harsh-reality-collapse-ravens">lost a shootout to the Baltimore Ravens last week</a> and fell to 1-4 and last place in the AFC North. Ahead of their <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bengals-giants-how-to-watch-sunday-night-football-tv-stream-date-time">primetime matchup with the Giants</a>, we’ll make our Bengals Week 6 bold predictions.</p><p>The offense has been humming this season for the Bengals, as they rank fourth in points scored. They scored 38 last Sunday and held a ten-point lead late in the fourth quarter. The defense was not able to hold on, a common theme for them this year, and Cincinnati lost again. The Giants’ offense has not looked this good in many years and could provide a tough test.</p><p>Rookie wide receiver <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-news-malik-nabers-ruled-out-for-week-6-clash-vs-bengals">Malik Nabers will be out of this game</a> with a concussion. This is the second straight game that the budding star has missed. Daniel Jones and crew put up solid offensive numbers in their 29-20 win over the Seahawks without Nabers in Week 5. Joe Burrow has been spectacular this year. The quarterback has thrown for over 300 yards twice including a 392-yard performance against the Ravens. He has 12 touchdowns and two interceptions on the season and should succeed against a struggling Giants secondary.</p><p>The Giants will also be <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-news-kayvon-thibodeaux-undergoes-surprise-wrist-surgery">without Kayvon Thibodeaux, who is week-to-week</a> with a wrist injury that required surgery. While the Bengals’ offensive line is decimated by injuries, they will have a slightly easier game without Thibodeaux. Brian Burnes and Dexter Lawrence will play in this game.</p><p>The Bengals need their offense to dominate in every game to have any chance of winning. While Burrow has been great, they have only one win and it was over the Panthers. They have to throw the ball a lot to win and he will succeed in that game plan.</p><h2><b>Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins both crack 75 yards</b></h2><p>When the Bengals pass, Burrow targets Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins the most. The two star wide receivers were beneficiaries of Burrow’s excellent game last week, both scoring two touchdowns. Chase went for a ridiculous 193 yards and Higgins picked up 83 of his own. They will both succeed against the Giants this week.</p><p>Expect the two stars to each go for 75 yards in this game. The Giants have struggled to bottle up wide receivers so far this season and that will continue. They will also find the end zone, making Bengals fans and fantasy managers very happy. While the run game has also been solid for the Bengals, the Giants have a solid run defense.</p><h2>Bengals squeak out their second win</h2><p>The Bengals need to win games quickly to save their playoff chances. Very few 1-4 teams have ever made the playoffs and even fewer 1-5 teams have turned it around in time. While the Bengals had high expectations this season, they have not lived up to them so far. They will start their march to the playoffs with a win over the Giants.</p><p>It will not be easy to beat this Giants team, at least certainly not as easy as it appeared earlier this year. The teams are fairly evenly matched and this will be a close game that Burrow and the Bengals will sneak out.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Nabers is exactly the type of alpha wide receiver that New York hoped they were getting <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/meet-malik-nabers-giants-no-6-pick-2024-nfl-draft">when they picked him sixth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft</a>.</p><p>The Giants will have to lean on Wan’Dale Robinson, Darius Slayton, and Jalin Hyatt at wide receiver to make up for the loss of Nabers. He also added 11 carries for 38 yards on the ground. Those aren’t great numbers, but he kept the offense on schedule and did not turn the ball over.</p><p>Rookie RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. had a breakout performance on the ground, running 18 times for 129 yards at a 7.2 yards per carry clip. The Giants should have Devin Singletary back in the mix so expect New York to run the ball early and often.</p><p>Ultimately, the answer might end up being the defense.</p><p>The Bengals have one of the league’s worst defenses, so the Giants should be able to move the ball one way or another on offense. They commented under @_MLFootball’s post on X, formerly Twitter, who said, “If you’re angry about players enjoying life off the field, you’ve got some serious problems.  “I agree but also understand the fact that Malik is still [in] concussion protocol. It’s a weird situation,” they said.</p><h2><b>Malik Nabers’ New York Giants career</b></h2><p>Prior to him being placed in concussion protocol and his subsequent appearance at Travis Scott’s MetLife Stadium concert, the New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers was having a phenomenal year.</p><p>Before being drafted with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, he played college football at LSU. He had a breakout year in 2023, catching 89 passes for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was the second wide receiver taken off the board after Marvin Harrison Jr. was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals.</p><p>Despite missing the Giants’ last game, Nabers leads the NFL in receptions (35). He is tied for eighth in the league in yards (386) and has three touchdowns.</p><p>His first career start against the Minnesota Vikings was a mixed bag. He caught seven passes for 66 yards. Quarterback Daniel Jones has been holding it down since Nabers was injured.</p><p>In the Giants’ last game against the Seattle Seahawks, Jones had an efficent game. They fall off a cliff when you are 1-5. In fact, only <a href="https://www.colts.com/news/colts-become-third-team-since-merger-to-make-playoffs-after-1-5-start" rel="noopener">three teams</a> have accomplished that feat since the merger. That makes this a true must-win game for the Bengals, despite the fact that we are less than a third of the way through the season.</p><p>Ja’Marr Chase, who held out of training camp because of a contract dispute, didn’t look like himself in the early part of the season. The receiver who lines up opposite him, Tee Higgins, missed time at the start of the year because of an injury. Even Joe Burrow dealt with injury issues at the start of the season.</p><p>Everyone is back and healthy now, but it will be too little too late if the Bengals don’t start collecting wins soon. The team actually looks solid, specifically on offense. In Week 5, Burrow threw five touchdown passes as Chase racked up 10 catches for 193 yards while Higgins added nine catches for 83 yards.</p><p>This has actually been the best start to Burrow’s career. He is first in the league in passing touchdowns and passer rating, he ranks second in completion percentage, and he is sixth in passing yards. Cincinnati hasn’t been able to close though, and the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bengals-mike-hilton-drops-truth-bomb-on-cincinnatis-defensive-struggles">defense has allowed way too many points</a>.</p><p>The 29 points per game the Bengals are allowing are the second most in football, and they even allowed 41 points in Week 5. That<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bengals-most-blame-week-5-loss-ravens"> showdown against the Baltimore Ravens</a> came down to the wire though, as the game went to overtime. Additionally, the Bengals have been known for their slow starts in recent years, and they’ve usually been able to get back on track. Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NFL</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>After suffering a concussion that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-news-malik-nabers-miss-week-5-amid-concussion-concern">kept him out of a Week 5</a> battle with the Seattle Seahawks, fans waited with bated breath to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/giants-news-the-nfl-history-malik-nabers-made-before-suffering-concussion" rel="noopener">see if Malik Nabers could make his triumphant return</a> to the field for the New York Giants in Week 6.</p><p>Well, in his media session on Wednesday, head coach Brian Dabell let it be known that Nabers is slowly but surely “<a href="https://x.com/JordanRaanan/status/1844053143392596472" rel="noopener">doing better</a>” and is considered day-to-day for an on-field comeback, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.</p><p>“WR Malik Nabers (concussion) is ‘doing better,’ per Brian Daboll. He will be working on the side with trainers at practice. He’s day to day,” Raanan wrote for ESPN. “OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux (wrist) is week to week. Doesn’t sound like he’ll play Sunday vs. Bengals.”</p><p>Could Week 6 see Nabers back on the field for the Giants? Will fans get to see him face off against another LSU legend in JaMarr Chase in order to see who is the better NFL receiver? And if not, will the Giants be able to overcome a Cincinnati Bengals team that has an explosive offense and a desperation to finally get a win on the board? While the Giants do have a few other options if Nabers can’t go, they aren’t particularly good ones, as the rookie receiver has been the unquestioned favorite target of Daniel Jones so far this season.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Malik-Nabers-catching-a-pass-for-the-Giants.jpg"><figcaption>Julian Guadalupe-NorthJersey.com</figcaption></figure><h2><b>The New York Giants offense is nothing without Malik Nabers</b></h2><p>If the Giants are without Nabers in Week 6, they will be in trouble, as through the first four games of the season, he’s accounted for a disproportionate amount of their offensive production.</p><p>You see, through the first five games of the 2024 NFL season, Nabers has caught the <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2024/leaders.htm" rel="noopener">most passes of any player in the NFL</a> at 35, two more than his fellow Ohio State product Garrett Wilson and three more than Chris Godwin, Drake London, Nico Collins, and his teammate Wan’Dale Robinson. Now granted, he hasn’t been particularly efficient at picking up yards after the catch, as he only ranks seventh in receiving yards and is a full 181 behind the reigning receiving yards leader, Collins, but hey, when Jones needs a catch, he either looks to Nabers or Robinson, as there isn’t another pass-catcher on the team with more 18 catches.</p><p>If Nabers is out, the Giants will have to hope Robinson can continue to feast underneath while someone like Darious Slayton or Jalin Hyatt can get something going over the top. If not, well, they might just get down as the unfortunate team that gives the Bengals their first win of the season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
