That leaves the RB room rather thin, with Justice Hill and Gus Edwards as the main options along with Melvin Gordon. As a result, the organization is on the hunt for another back to help out in 2023.</p><p>Per Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, the Ravens<a href="https://twitter.com/jeffzrebiec/status/1704498175027937352" rel="noopener"> are working out</a> Kenyan Drake, Ronald Jones, and James Robinson on Wednesday, who have all been around the league for a hot minute.</p><p>Drake actually played for Baltimore last year so he is a familiar face, having featured in 12 games and rushing for 4.4 yards per carry including four touchdowns. Drake has also suited up Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, and Las Vegas Raiders in his career.</p><p>Jones meanwhile <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-release-tony-pollard-ronald-jones-ped-suspension" rel="noopener">was just released</a> by the Dallas Cowboys after his two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s PED rules. After Deuce Vaughn showed promise, they decided to part ways. Jones played six games for the Kansas City Chiefs last year and was previously in Tampa Bay with the Buccaneers for four years. The former USC standout is a two-time Super Bowl champion, which means he does have playoff experience. Could be a nice pick-up for the Ravens.</p><p>As for Robinson, he’s moved around quite a bit since spending his first two NFL seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was a beast in his rookie campaign but has dropped off in previous years. The Jags traded him to the New York Jets last October but he didn’t last long there. Robinson then signed a two-year deal with the New England Patriots in March but was released shortly after due to concerns with his health.</p><p>The Ravens have options. The Los Angeles Rams are apparently shopping Cam Akers, who was inactive on Sunday, and <a href="https://twitter.com/Schultz_Report/status/1704173184105222631" rel="noopener">several teams</a> have already checked in to see what it would take to poach him.</p><p>Among those teams, as reported by Jordan Schultz, are the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens. The Browns are expecting to be <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/browns-news-kevin-stefanski-confirms-cleveland-worst-nick-chubb-fears-with-injury-update" rel="noopener">without star running back Nick Chubb</a> after he left Monday night’s game with a “significant knee injury.” The Ravens learned last week that JK Dobbins is lost for the season with a torn Achilles.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/best-trade-destinations-rams-cam-akers-vikings-dolphins" rel="noopener">The Rams trading Akers</a> is an interesting development given his starting status to begin the season and his performance at the tail end of last season. He took a stranglehold as LA’s No. 1 back, starting the final seven games of the season for the Rams. He averaged 78.4 yards per game and scored six touchdowns during that span, including three consecutive 100-yard rushing games to end the season.</p><p>The other teams reported to be <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rams-news-sean-mcvays-comments-cam-akers-trade-around-the-corner" rel="noopener">interested in Akers</a> are the Las Vegas Raiders and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There is still a possibility that Akers gets released by the Rams in which case he’ll become a free agent, but LA seems confident it can trade him.</p><p>In the final year of his rookie deal, Cam Akers will be looking for a fresh start to audition for free agency. The young running back tore his Achilles tendon and is out for the season, leaving the Ravens with Gus Edwards, Justice Hill, and Melvin Gordon on their roster. This injury situation led to increased speculation that the Ravens could go outside the building to add a runner, like the Indianapolis Colts’ <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-perfect-jonathan-taylor-trade-baltimore-offer-colts" rel="noopener">unhappy star Jonathan Taylor</a>, but head coach John Harbaugh says he’s good with what the team already has.</p><p>“Ravens coach John Harbaugh said the team will not look outside the organization to add a running back,” ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley <a href="https://twitter.com/jamisonhensley/status/1701304408217178350" rel="noopener">tweeted Monday</a>. “‘We’re good,’ he said. ‘I like the guys we got.’”</p><p>Of course, this is what John Harbaugh would say in the immediate aftermath of the JK Dobbins injury. He needs Gus Edwards, Justice Hill, and Melvin Gordon to be confident and ready for Week 2 against the Bengals after the team’s relatively easy Week 1 win.</p><p>This Bengals matchup will be much tougher for the Ravens than their Week 1 opponent, so Harbaugh and the front office may be seeing things differently soon if they are not privately already.</p><p>After giving quarterback Lamar Jackson a $52 million per year contract this offseason, the next few years are Super Bowl or bust for the Ravens, a franchise that almost always prioritizes long-term stability over win-now moves.</p><p>That said, Edwards had just 32 yards on eight carries Sunday, while Hill had eight totes for just nine yards, although he did score two touchdowns. Starting running back JK Dobbins is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-news-jk-dobbins-suffers-crushing-achilles-injury-week-1-texans" rel="noopener">out for the season</a> with a torn Achilles tendon, setting Baltimore’s run game back after what was projected to be a breakout season for the fourth-year running back.</p><p>Outside of Dobbins, who had eight carries for 22 yards and a touchdown before exiting a 25-9 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday, the Ravens rushed for 88 yards on 24 carries. As usual, quarterback Lamar Jackson led the way, and Justice Hill punched in two scores from the two-yard line.</p><p>Without Dobbins, the Ravens have Hill and Gus Edwards to lead the backfield, with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-news-baltimore-cuts-melvin-gordon-roster-2023" rel="noopener">Melvin Gordon waiting on the practice squad</a> for his opportunity. Baltimore also has a promising rookie in Keaton Mitchell, but he’ll be out until at least Week 5 after starting the season on injured reserve.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-predictions-2023-nfl-season" rel="noopener">The Ravens like who they have</a> in their running back room at the moment, but depth is critical at every position, especially when the starter is out for the season. Baltimore can rely on Edwards and see what it can get out of Hill and Gordon, but logically it’ll have to bring in another back to try and fill the void JK Dobbins is leaving.</p><h2><b>Bringing back a familiar face</b></h2><p>Last year the Ravens used five different running backs throughout the season. One of them was Kenyan Drake, who led all Baltimore running backs with 109 rushing attempts and started the most games at the position outside of Dobbins.</p><p>Drake appeared in 12 games for the Ravens last season, rushing for 482 yards, 4.4 yards per attempt and added five total touchdowns to his stat sheet. He also had a pair of big games for Baltimore, including a 119-yard performance and a game with 93 yards and two rushing touchdowns.</p><p>Drake spent the preseason with the Indianapolis Colts after spending the summer without a team. He saw limited action in the preseason and didn’t do much with it, rushing for 36 yards on 13 carries. He did however make an impact in the passing game, catching 3 passes for 29 yards and a touchdown. Despite the holdout of starting running back Jonathan Taylor, Drake was cut by the Colts and is again searching for a new team.</p><p>Drake has thrived in a backup role throughout his career and would give the Ravens a pass-catching option out of the backfield. Edwards and Hill have a combined 43 catches in 97 NFL games. Drake averages 30 catches per season in his career and has two seasons with 50 or more catches.</p><p>There have been plenty of running back reunions with teams in the past, especially after an unexpected injury like the one to Dobbins. Bringing in a player who is familiar with the culture and had success, albeit limited, with the Ravens last year would make sense. Don’t be surprised if Baltimore gave Kenyan Drake a call.</p><h2><b>Best available on the market</b></h2><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl-odds-2023-24-afc-north-champion-prediction-and-pick" rel="noopener">The Ravens don’t need</a> a bonafide No. 1 running back – not that there’s one available in free agency anyway – but they also don’t have to settle for a career backup if they want to make an <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-last-minute-trade-before-week-1-2023-season" rel="noopener">addition at the position.</a> The perfect happy medium could be veteran bruiser Leonard Fournette.</p><p>Fournette signed a three-year contract worth $21 million with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March 2022. 18 months later he is without a job, though he shouldn’t be for much longer as the NFL season gets going and teams deal with injuries. The Ravens get the first unofficial crack at him and they should at least entertain the option.</p><p>Fournette was not a very efficient runner last season, averaging 3.5 yards per carry, but he did continue being an elite pass-catching back. He caught 73 passes for a career-high 523 receiving yards and added three touchdowns through the air. Only three running backs have caught more passes than Fournette since 2019 and only two have more since 2020.</p><p>With the loss of Dobbins the Ravens do not have any pass-catching threats out of the backfield. Adding Fournette would not only give them that but also provide them with another able ball-carrier who does not have a ton of wear and tear to him.</p><p>The Ravens seem to like Melvin Gordon enough to keep him on the practice squad, but Leonard Fournette is a better option at this point in their respective careers. Baltimore can take a flier on a former Super Bowl champion with pass-catching prowess and add another <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-causes-concern-despite-big-win-texans" rel="noopener">layer to Todd Monken’s offense.</a></p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

But they were also met with some terrible injury news that could vastly change the outlook of their season, namely with running back J.K. Dobbins and safety Marcus Williams, who each also suffered injuries that kept them out for at least a month last year.</p><p>Dobbins <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-news-jk-dobbins-suffers-crushing-achilles-injury-week-1-texans" rel="noopener">suffered a torn Achilles</a>, a brutal, unfortunate fate for any player but especially one in their contract year. The 24-year-old recovered from a torn ACL that cost him his 2021 season and fought through a knee injury that forced him to the sideline for six games last season.</p><p>Williams missed seven games in the middle of last season after dislocating his wrist. My teammates need me. So, I wanted to be there for my teammates. That’s all it was. My teammates understood what was going on. So, it’s all good now.”</p><p>Dobbins is entering the final year of his contract and will make $1.39 million this season. After missing all of 2021 with a knee injury, Dobbins came back and played 8 games in 2022. On his career, Dobbins averages a massive 5.9 yards per carry and has scored 11 touchdowns in 23 career games.</p><p>Health and durability has been a major issue for Dobbins throughout his career. The 25-year-old from Ohio State has been <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/jk-dobbins-fantasy-football-outlook-for-the-2023-season" rel="noopener">highly productive</a> when in the lineup, however, and might be closer to fully healed from his knee repair.</p><p>JK Dobbins may have been wise to avoid any extra wear and tear on his legs early in training camp, particularly without the safety of a long-term contract locked up. Running backs all over the league have had a difficult time securing long-term deals and financial security, and so Dobbins may have been protecting himself by missing the beginning of camp.</p><p>The Ravens offense could return to being one of the league’s most explosive units with a healthy JK Dobbins in a contract year playing in the backfield behind quarterback Lamar Jackson, who was made the highest-paid player in NFL history with a five-year extension worth $260 million this offseason.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

In 2022, Dobbins returned to help out Lamar Jackson and the Ravens’ offense, but he sustained another injury six weeks into the campaign. Now, the Ravens are definitely hoping that he stays healthy the rest of the way. For Dobbins, he can’t afford to suffer another serious injury, especially since he’s in the last year of the contract he signed with the Ravens back in 2020.</p><p>It remains to be seen whether the Ravens will let Dobbins loose in any of the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-preseason-streak-13-longest-undefeated-preseason-runs" rel="noopener">remaining preseason games</a> on their schedule. Baltimore, which defeated the Philadelphia Eagles last Saturday at home, will be squaring off against the Washington Commanders in Week 2 of the preseason before taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3. Dobbins underwent another surgery on the same knee last season, limiting him to eight games.</p><p>Upon his return from the 2022 surgery, Dobbins showed that he can perform like a top running back when healthy. Dobbins <a href="https://twitter.com/jamisonhensley/status/1689001808474066944" rel="noopener">could return</a> to Baltimore Ravens training camp soon, according to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, but head coach John Harbaugh says “the ball is in J.K.’s court.” Dobbins is still working through knee issues that have been a problem since he tore his ACL ahead of the 2021 season, but is there more to the story?</p><p>Harbaugh spoke to Dobbins on Monday and says he does expect the running back to be back with the team soon. However, it’s not <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-news-john-harbaugh-drops-murky-answer-jk-dobbins-situation-training-camp" rel="noopener">100% clear whether Dobbins</a> is strictly sitting out due to his physical health or if contractual concerns are playing a bigger role. The 24-year-old is entering the final year of his rookie contract, which pays only $1.39 million this season. Ravens veteran running back Melvin Gordon also raised some eyebrows with this line last week: “I didn’t even know J.K. was sitting out until I came here.”</p><p>What does that mean?</p><p>As of this week, there’s no evidence that suggests Dobbins plans to sit out this season until he gets a contract extension. John Harbaugh and fellow running back Gus Edwards also believe Dobbins wants to be participating on the field as soon as possible.</p><p>“I see him every day, he’s in there. He’s still working hard,” Edwards said Tuesday at training camp . “I know he’s going to be ready because that’s the type of guy he is.”</p><p>Edwards’ words indicate health is the bigger concern, and Harbaugh seems to believe the same thing. “We talk a lot. He wants to be out there, and he needs to be out there, just like any player does,” Harbaugh said last week. “Other than that, there’s nothing else that I can really add because I don’t know when he’s going to come back. But I know I’m going to be really happy when he does.”</p><p>His <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-news-baltimore-puts-jk-dobbins-marcus-peters-4-others-on-pup-list-to-open-training-camp" rel="noopener">status on the PUP list</a> (physically unable to perform) is one more sign that points to health as the limiting factor at this point.</p><p>Early in his NFL career, health has been a major problem for J.K. Dobbins. He missed the entire 2021 season with the torn ACL. Then, he underwent a procedure on the same knee in the middle of last season that sidelined him for six weeks. Altogether, Dobbins has played in 25 games in his first three years in the NFL.</p><p>However, if Dobbins does demand an extension, it’s very unlikely terms are reached this year. On limited carries in eight games last year, Dobbins averaged 65 rushing yards per contest on an efficient 5.7 yards per carry. This included a pair of 100-yard performances late in the season against divisional opponents.</p><p>Can Dobbins overcome his injury history and become a reliable rushing threat in Baltimore? Here is his 2023 fantasy football outlook:</p><h1><b>JK Dobbins Fantasy Football Outlook for the 2023 Season</b></h1><h2><b>The key is in the knee</b></h2><p>When he is on the field, JK Dobbins has been one of the most efficient rushers in the NFL. Across 226 pro carries, Dobbins is averaging 5.9 yards/rush — good for a total of 1,325 yards. Yet this production has come across three seasons because the second-round pick out of Ohio State has been <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/fantasy-football-impact-ravens-rb-jk-dobbins-latest-knee-surgery" rel="noopener">unable to stay healthy</a>. Dobbins missed all of the 2021 season due to a torn ACL suffered in Baltimore’s final pre-season game. In 2022, the running back was out for the first two weeks, returned, then went on the injured reserve again for another six weeks for a cleanup procedure on the same knee, ending the year with eight games played.</p><p>Dobbins is now on the physically unable to perform list to begin training camp in 2023 due to an unspecified injury (rumor is it is related to his knee), leaving fantasy owners to wonder if the 24-year-old will ever play a full season or even be given a full workload.</p><h2><b>Splitting The Bill</b></h2><p>The Ravens’ run-heavy offense is a double-edged sword for fantasy football owners. While there are plenty of carries to go around the backfield, rarely does one running back receive enough touches to be a reliable fantasy option. Baltimore’s top three rushers in 2022 all average between 9.1 and 11.5 carries per game, and no Ravens running back has <a href="https://www.4for4.com/2023/preseason/fantasy-football-jk-dobbins-has-uphill-climb-2023" rel="noopener">earned more than 42% of carries</a> in a season since Lamar Jackson became a full-time starter in 2019.</p><p>Dobbins led the way with 11.5 carries/game in 2022, the ever-steady Gus Edwards finished second, and Lamar Jackson and Kenyan Drake rounded out the top five. Drake is out of the picture, but the new third-string running back on the Chesapeake Bay is Melvin Gordon, who averaged 3.5 yards/carry on 90 rushes with the Denver Broncos last year.</p><p>What kind of split can Dobbins expect in 2023? The 5-10 runner averaged 8.8 carries a game in his first four games as he returned from a full year off. In his second stint off the IR, that average jumped to 14.3 carries per contest. With Dobbins (hopefully) healthy entering the season and given Baltimore’s reluctance to rely on one ball carrier, Dobbins should do a little better than his 14.3 carry/game peak in 2022 but is unlikely to eclipse the 20-carry barrier very often.</p><h2><b>Catching Up</b></h2><p>While Dobbins is a talented runner, he holds less value in PPR leagues due to his lack of production in the passing game. Last year, the Baltimore back had just seven catches in eight starts. This was a common theme in the Ravens’ backfield, as no running back averaged multiple catches per contest. ESPN ranks Dobbins 25th amongst running backs in PPR leagues and 21st in non-PPR scenarios — a difference of about 12 spots in a mock draft setting. To make up for this shortcoming, Dobbins will need to return to his touchdown-scoring ways of 2020 (nine rushing TDs in 2020 versus just two in 2022).</p><h2><b>Overall Outlook</b></h2><p>Now entering the fourth year of his career, JK Dobbins has shown glimpses of the talent that helped him rush for 2,000 yards in his final year at Ohio State, but through injuries and lack of workload, Dobbins has yet to fully reach his potential in the NFL. The Baltimore back finished 35th among PPR running backs with an average of 10.2 points/game a year ago — hardly the numbers you would expect from the lead back in such a prolific offense.</p><p>Dobbins is the number one running back for the Ravens with a high floor but also a low ceiling. This makes him a borderline top-20 fantasy running back in 2023, which puts the fourth-year man in RB2/FLEX territory in most leagues and worthy of a pick in the sixth or seventh round.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Melvin Gordon has agreed to a one-year contract with the Ravens, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. Melvin Gordon’s contract is worth up to $3.1 million, according to Schefter.</p><p>Gordon joins an already crowded Ravens running back room. JK Dobbins is atop Baltimore’s depth chart. Dobbins is followed by Gus Edwards and Justice Hill. Both Edwards and Hill averaged at least 5.0 yards per carry last year.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-news-jk-dobbins-contract-dispute-baltimore-minicamp-lamar-jackson" rel="noopener">Dobbins skipped Ravens minicamp</a> because he wants a new contract.</p><p>Lamar Jackson could finish the 2023 season with more rushing yards than Dobbins or any other Ravens’ running back. Jackson still owns the record for most rushing yards in a single season by a quarterback.</p><p>By adding Gordon, the Ravens have improved one of the NFL’s best rushing attacks. Only the Chicago Bears had more rushing yards than Baltimore in the 2022 season. In each of the last five seasons, the Ravens have finished with a top-three rushing attack.</p><p>Gordon ran for 318 yards in 10 games for the Denver Broncos before being released in November last season. The veteran had rushed for over 900 years in each of the previous two years. Gordon was selected to the Pro Bowl two times with the Los Angeles Chargers before joining the Broncos in 2020.</p><p>Gordon was a free agent for just about the entire offseason, signing with the Ravens with training camp set to start. Earlier in the offseason, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl-free-agent-melvin-gordon-running-back-position" rel="noopener">Gordon expressed his frustration</a> with how little running backs are valued around the league.</p><p>It’s a reality that Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs are dealing with after being hit with the franchise tag and failing to sign long-term contracts.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He hopes to see his beloved Chicago Bears win a Super Bowl someday.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NFL</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Baltimore Ravens were without their starting running back throughout mandatory minicamp as JK Dobbins decided not to participate. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-news-jk-dobbins-blasts-baltimore-wild-card-exit" rel="noopener">Dobbins has now revealed</a> why he skipped out and for the Ravens, it looks awfully similar to their Lamar Jackson sage.</p><p>Dobbins confirmed that he skipped minicamp <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/baltimore/news/j-k-dobbins-talks-wjz-about-his-future-with-baltimore-ravens/" rel="noopener">due to his current contract</a>, via CBS Baltimore. The running back even mentioned Jackson when discussing his decision reminding everyone that the NFL is a business.</p><p>“The business side is very hard. It’s very different,” Dobbins said. “You saw with Lamar, it’s never just roses and daisies. It can be hard times and it’s business though.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-hc-john-harbaugh-clears-the-air-on-j-k-dobbins-postgame-rant-after-bengals-loss" rel="noopener">Dobbins is set to</a> make just over $1 million this season and is the 24th-highest paid running back in the league. With this being the last year of Dobbins’ contract, he is looking to secure the long-term bag. After dishing out a massive extension to Jackson, the Ravens have yet to meet Dobbins’ demands.</p><p>The running back will likely be back for training camp. He would be subject to major fines for missing time. Still, Dobbins has made it clear to Baltimore that he is seeking a new contract.</p><p>The Ravens selected Dobbins in the second-round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He has gone on to appear in 23 games, starting nine. In that time, Dobbins has run for 1,325 yards and 11 touchdowns.</p><p>Injuries have held Dobbins back early in his NFL career. He appeared in just eight last season after missing a few games as a rookie. The running back has minimal starting experience to boot.</p><p>Regardless, JK Dobbins feels he deserves to be paid. Facing a goal-to-go situation, it would have been logical to think running back JK Dobbins is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-news-jk-dobbins-blasts-baltimore-wild-card-exit" rel="noopener">getting the chance</a> to find the end zone.</p><p>Instead, the ball <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-news-jk-dobbins-final-status-update-week-18-bengals" rel="noopener">was in the hands</a> of quarterback Tyler Huntley, who replaced the injured Lamar Jackson. Huntley tried to leap over the top to score, but had the ball knocked loose, and the fumble was returned by Bengals defensive end Sam Hubbard for a 98-yard touchdown. The play ended up being the difference of the game, and the Ravens lost 24-17.</p><p>Needless to say, JK Dobbins was upset about not getting the ball in that situation, and he wasn’t shy about voicing his displeasure. I didn’t get a single carry. He should never have been in that situation. I believe I would have put it in the end zone, again,” he said.</p><p>For the game, Dobbins had 13 carries for 62 yards and two-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Averaging almost five yards per carry would suggest he should have seen a few more carries.</p><p>Having said that, hindsight is 20/20, as they say, and if the Huntley play worked, chances are we’re not hearing Dobbins vent.</p><p>Regardless of how frustrated he was, Dobbins wanted the fans to know it’s all love with them.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
