Their latest heartbreaking loss, a 41-38 <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bengals-news-zac-taylor-sick-stomach-choking-away-game-ravens">overtime classic against the Baltimore Ravens</a> at home, dropped them to 1-4 and severely hurt their playoff chances in a very competitive AFC.</p><p>The Bengals had their chances to win on Sunday, and they held a lead for a majority of the second half. However, a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bengals-news-joe-burrow-slaps-cincinnati-harsh-reality-collapse-ravens">Joe Burrow interception with the Bengals leading 38-35</a> opened the door for the Ravens to tie things up with a Justin Tucker field goal and eventually win it in overtime.</p><p>After the game, star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase <a href="https://x.com/Trags/status/1843036502118613155" rel="noopener">took the heat</a> for the Burrow interception, which was headed his way, according to Mike Petraglia of CLNS Media.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">Ja’Marr Chase “I ran a shitty route” on the Marlon Humphrey interception. <a href="https://t.co/gjmBHYkFL0">pic.twitter.com/gjmBHYkFL0</a></p><p>— Mike Petraglia (@Trags) <a href="https://twitter.com/Trags/status/1843036502118613155?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 6, 2024</a></p></blockquote><p><script async="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p></figure><p>“We can start with me and Joe not on the same page,” Chase said. “I ran a sh***y route and he threw a pick… I’m gonna take it on me. Yeah, I am.”</p><p>The Bengals looked to be on their way to getting their second win of the season and moving within one game of first place in the AFC North, but a slew of missed opportunities has them at he bottom of the division and with a big hole to climb out of.</p><h2><b>Missed opportunities haunt Bengals yet again</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Bengals-huddle.jpg"><figcaption>© Cara Owsley/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Missed opportunities are becoming a theme of this Bengals season, as <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bengals-joe-burrow-issues-blunt-admission-about-controversial-loss-to-chiefs">Zac Taylor’s club can’t seem to close out a close game</a>. There’s an argument to be made that the Bengals could easily be at least 4-1 right now, but end of game execution has cost them time and time again. Their four losses have come by a combined 15 points through five weeks.</p><p>Sunday may have been their biggest missed chance yet. In a huge division matchup, the Bengals had two great chances to close the deal at home. Burrow threw an interception on the first opportunity, which ended their streak of four consecutive touchdown drives.</p><p>In overtime, the Bengals got a gift in the form of a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-news-ravens-lamar-jackson-dissatisfaction-win-vs-bengals">Lamar Jackson fumble with the Ravens driving down</a> for a game-winning score. Cincinnati was in field goal range with a chance to win it, but they opted to go the conservative route and run the ball three times, settling for a long field goal to win it. Holder Ryan Rehkow muffed the snap, and Evan McPherson hooked the field goal to the left.</p><p>On the first play of the ensuing drive, Derrick Henry took a toss play down the left sideline inside the 10-yard line, and Justin Tucker easily nailed the field goal to give the Ravens the win.</p><p>The Bengals are a better team than 1-4, but their execution down the stretch is costing them games. Sunday was another example, and if they don’t turn things around, their season is going to be over sooner rather than later.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Included in the mix is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bengals-news-zac-taylor-murky-trey-hendrickson-injury-update">Trey Hendrickson’s injury</a>, along with the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bengals-news-panthers-fan-caught-doing-disrespectful-act-bengals-chase-brown">disrespect shown to a Bengals’ running back</a>. Now they must face the Ravens, and Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase said the opponent is “cheating.”</p><p>Bengals reporter Kelsey Conway posted the <a href="https://x.com/KelseyLConway/status/1841930756563861659" rel="noopener">tongue-in-cheek comment</a> on X.</p><p>“Ja’Marr Chase’s response when asked about his thoughts about Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson together was fantastic:”</p><p>“That’s cheating,” Chase said. “If I’m playing Madden, RPO read between those two, that’s pretty (unfair), on the game. In real life, they’re still doing the same thing. That’s a great duo they have back there.”</p><p>Henry leads the NFL in rushing with 480 yards on 80 carries. He has scored five touchdowns. Jackson has rushed for 308 yards, ranking No. 9 in the NFL. No wonder Chase called it cheating. The defense has some serious poison to pick from during the mesh point between these players.</p><h2><b>Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase trying to help team get rolling</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Cincinnati-Bengals-WR-JaMarr-Chase.jpg"></figure><p>The Bengals finally won in Week 4, holding off the Panthers by a score of 34-24. But the sting of the 0-3 start still hangs around. Taylor said the team didn’t expect <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/joe-burrow-bengals-not-happy-after-0-3-start-but-by-no-means-is-the-season-over" rel="noopener">a slow start</a>, according to nfl.com.</p><p>“We didn’t envision ourselves in this spot but here we are,” Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said after the loss to the Commanders in Week 3. “It’s a kick in the gut when you feel really good about the team and you start off 0-3. But again, that is where we are right now. We need to find a way to win next Sunday and get this thing moving in the right direction.”</p><p>Now they have to regroup against one of the NFL’s best teams. And quarterback Joe Burrow said he has <a href="https://www.bengals.com/news/joe-burrow-knows-he-has-to-be-near-perfect-vs-ravens-cam-taylor-britt" rel="noopener">to be on target</a>, according to bengals.com.</p><p>“Their corners are very well coached,” Burrow said. “They’re going to keep everything in front. I feel like they hold their shell, and they’ll mix in a single high coverage here and there, but that’s not who they are. You’ll get a couple of those a game, and when you do see that and when you do get an aggressive defensive call, you really do have to take advantage of it.</p><p>“We have to do a better job of hitting our explosives when opportunities present themselves because against this group, they don’t give up explosive plays like that.”</p><h2><b>Bengals may need to play well early</b></h2><p>Starting quick is imperative, Burrow said.</p><p>“Paramount,” Burrow said. “You have to, otherwise they’re just going to eat the clock up and run the ball. You know how well they run it. So we have to start fast and get ourselves as many opportunities as we can.”</p><p>Of course, the Ravens <a href="https://www.wbaltv.com/article/ravens-build-momentum-heading-nfl-week-5-bengals-game/62500434" rel="noopener">have respect for</a> the Bengals, too, according to comments from head coach John Harbaugh on wbaltv.com.</p><p>“No question, they have really great skill,” Harbaugh said. “They always have. (It’s) a great scheme, (and) they have great receivers. And it doesn’t even stop with those two guys (Higgins and Chase).
