The contest will be a body clock game as the 49ers will play an early east coast game. Moody is set to make his NFL debut after the 49ers decided not to re-sign Robbie Gould after Gould kicked for San Francisco for six seasons. The kicker was so highly regarded that San Francisco took him in the third round! Safeties Talanoa Hufanga and Tashaun Gipson will also play, which is great news for the secondary.</p><p>San Francisco will next hope to get George Kittle and Charvarius Ward officially available for the Steelers game. The Pro Bowl tight end has regularly worked through injuries during his career and has missed at least one or two games every season except for one. Jake Moody and Zane Gonzalez are both dealing with injury concerns. San Francisco even <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/49ers-news-san-francisco-veteran-kicker-zane-gonzales-jake-moody-injuries" rel="noopener">signed veteran kicker Matthew Wright</a> as a depth option. Moody is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/49ers-news-jake-moody-week-1-injury-update-kyle-shanahan" rel="noopener">trending in a positive direction</a> though and he <a href="https://www.nbcsportsbayarea.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/jake-moody-injury-matthew-wright-steelers/1652657/" rel="noopener">provided an update</a> on his injury Tuesday.</p><p>“Yeah, just working back into it,” Moody said, via Matt Maiocco of nbcsportsbayarea.com. “Nothing crazy. We’re not hitting any 70-yard field goals trying to blow my leg out. Just taking it one kick at a time and trying to make progress.”</p><h2><b>49ers: Will Jake Moody play in Week 1?</b></h2><p>Moody, who’s dealing with a quad injury, is questionable for the 49ers season opener against the Steelers. If he is unable to play, Wright will likely take his spot in Week 1. Moody doesn’t expect to miss a significant amount of time regardless of his Week 1 status though.</p><p>“I wouldn’t say it happened with one kick, but there was one day it started acting up,” Moody said, via Maiocco as well. “I caught it early and didn’t push anything too far. Luckily I did catch it early, so I’m not missing extended periods of time.”</p><p>San Francisco projects to be one of the best teams in the NFL in 2023. They fell just short of a Super Bowl appearance last season after all three of their QBs suffered injuries. If Brock Purdy is able to stay healthy, the 49ers loaded defense and talented all-around offense will handle the rest. This is a very dangerous team without question.</p><p>Kicking is important as well, so they are hopeful that Moody can return soon. Fortunately for the team, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed a promising update on Jake Moody, who’s dealing with a quad injury, ahead of Week 1. The 49ers <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/49ers-news-san-francisco-veteran-kicker-zane-gonzales-jake-moody-injuries" rel="noopener">brought in kicking depth</a> amid Moody and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/49ers-news-unsurprising-zane-gonzales-roster-move-further-complicates-kicking-situation" rel="noopener">Zane Gonzalez’s injuries</a>. You can follow D.J. on Twitter @fosterdj3.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NFL</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The San Francisco 49ers continue to make <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1697256026305958378" rel="noopener">roster moves</a> at kicker after sending Zane Gonzalez to the IR, this time signing veteran kicker Matthew Wright to their practice squad as an insurance policy for rookie kicker Jake Moody, according to Adam Schefter.</p><p>Matthew Wright, 27, spent time last season with the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers and has made 87 percent of his field goals (40-for-46) in his career. If Wright had enough attempts to qualify for the leaderboard, that would make him the 7th most accurate kicker in NFL history.</p><p>Zane Gonzalez, 28, was sent to the IR with an injured calf and will miss at least the first four weeks of the season.</p><p>The 49ers spent a 3rd round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft on kicker Jake Moody out of Michigan. Moody was the Lou Groza Award winner as the nation’s top kicker in 2021 by converting all 56 extra point attempts and 23 of 25 field goal tries for Michigan. Moody was also named a second-team All-American in 2022, connecting on all 60 extra points and an FBS-best 29 field goals from his 35 attempts.</p><p>Moody <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/49ers-news-san-francisco-kicker-zane-gonzales-injury" rel="noopener">struggled in preseason</a> for the 49ers, missing field goals, an extra point, and a potential game-winning kick. Moody being selected so high in the draft came as a big surprise, but the 49ers felt the need to replace longtime veteran kicker Robbie Gould with a quality option. Moody has yet to show he’s worthy of such a high draft selection, but it sounds like health willing, he’ll still get his chance Week 1 for the 49ers.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
