However, despite<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/vikings-receiving-jalen-reagor-trade-calls" rel="noopener"> reports of teams calling</a> about the 2020 first-round wideout, no deal materialized. Now, after keeping the wide receiver on the roster through the 53-man roster deadline, the Vikings finally made a decision on the disappointing pass catcher, and Jalen Reagor is now cut.</p><p>On Wednesday morning, just about 18 hours after the Vikings’ final 53-man roster came out, ESPN insider Adam Schefter simply <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1696880451481223324" rel="noopener">reported that</a> the “Vikings are waiving former first-round draft pick Jalen Reagor, per source.”</p><p>This was a marked change from reports of a potential Jalen Reagor trade to him getting cut 24 hours later.</p><p>The Vikings traded two late-round picks for the No. 21 overall pick <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/vikings-news-justin-jefferson-throws-shade-at-eagles-after-2020-nfl-draft-snub" rel="noopener">in the 2020 NFL Draft</a>. However, he didn’t produce for the team, putting up just eight catches for 104 yards and one touchdown despite appearing in all 17 games.</p><p>Those numbers followed Raegor’s two seasons with the team that drafted him, the Philadelphia Eagles, where the WR had 64 catches for 695 yards and three touchdowns.</p><p>It now looks like Reagor is officially a draft bust who will go down in history as a major draft-day mistake by the Eagles. Not only did Philly take him over WRs like Brandon Aiyuk, Tee Higgins, Michael Pittman Jr., Chase Claypool, Gabriel Davis, and Darnell Mooney, but Reagor’s biggest claim to infamy will be that he went one spot ahead of the best WR in the league — who is now his former teammate — Justin Jefferson.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The calls are also coming in on the day the Vikings have to trim their roster to 53 players.</p><p>NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport <a href="https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1696538109146771696" rel="noopener">tweeted</a> “A name to watch: The #Vikings have received calls inquiring about the availability of former first-round WR Jalen Reagor, source said. Minnesota traded for him about a year ago.” Rapoport didn’t specify which teams were calling about the pass catcher.</p><p>The Vikings made their Jalen Reagor trade on August 31, 2022. Minnesota sent a 2023 seventh-round pick and a conditional 2024 fourth-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for the 21st overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.</p><p>Reagor has yet to live up to his draft spot or make the same type of impact several of his Class of 2020 brethren have. The Eagles selected Reagor out of TCU just behind CeeDee Lamb and one spot ahead of his current teammate, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/justin-jefferson-fantasy-football-outlook-for-the-2023-season" rel="noopener">Vikings All-Pro WR Justin Jefferson</a>.</p><p>In three NFL seasons, Reagor has 72 catches for 799 yards and four touchdowns. Last season with Minnesota, the 24-year-old WR had eight catches for 104 yards and one TD in 17 games.</p><p>The news that the Vikings may trade Reagor comes just hours ahead of the 53-man roster deadline. Minnesota currently has 12 WRs on the depth chart, including Jefferson, Reagor, Jordan Addison, Jalen Nailor, Blake Proehl, Lucky Jackson, Trishton Jackson, Jacob Copeland, K.J. Osborn, Brandon Powell, Thayer Thomas, and Malik Knowles.</p><p>The Vikings will have to cut that WR group at least in half before the 4 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday, and trading Reagor could be one good way to help thin that position room before the Vikings’ Week 1 matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

That resulted in Philly cutting ties with Jalen Reagor and sending him to the Vikings for a draft pick.</p><p>GM Howie Roseman even publicly voiced that he regretted drafting the wideout over Justin Jefferson, his running mate in Minnesota now and one of the brightest young stars in the league. You’d have to believe those comments from Roseman really irked Reagor.</p><p>There is no doubt Reagor is going to hear boos in Philadelphia on Monday and he certainly expects it. That being said, this is a chance for him to show both Minnesota and his ex-organization what he’s truly capable of.</p><p>In Week 1 vs Green Bay,  the 23-year-old didn’t feature much in the offense. In fact, he played all four snaps on special teams, including one punt return. Jalen Reagor has competition in the offense for playing time with the likes of Adam Thielen, Jefferson, and KJ Osborn ahead of him on the depth chart.</p><p>Perhaps he’ll get more of an opportunity on Sunday to get touches on MNF. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Jalen Reagor does have a very lean build at 5 foot 11 and 197 lbs and his new special teams coordinator is clearly loving him.</p><p>It was a rough couple of years for Reagor in Philly, struggling to produce after being taken 21st overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. He failed to register more than 400 receiving yards in each of his first two seasons in the league and when the ex-TCU standout fumbled twice in the Wild Card Round in the playoffs, Eagles fans had truly seen enough.</p><p>Ultimately, they essentially replaced him with AJ Brown. But, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/vikings-news-kj-osborn-reveals-why-minnesota-fans-should-be-fired-up-after-jalen-reagor-trade/">Jalen Reagor now gets a fresh start with the Vikings</a> and he’s evidently got lots of support. A 2023 seventh-round pick, and a conditional 2024 fourth-round pick.</p><p>During his time with the Eagles, Jalen Reagor wore the number 18. Upon his arrival to the Vikings, Jalen Reagor has elected to go in a different direction with his number. Since he was taken with the 21st overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, he hasn’t lived up to expectations on the field.</p><p>Through <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/R/ReagJa00.htm">28 career games</a>, Reagor has recorded 64 receptions, 695 receiving yards, and three touchdowns.</p><p>Before being drafted, Reagor was an elite receiving option during his time in college. In <a href="https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/jalen-reagor-1.html">three seasons at TCU</a>, Reagor recorded 148 receptions, 2,248 receiving yards, and 22 touchdowns. There’s hope that the Vikings can help Reagor return to this level.</p><p>Jalen Reagor will be joining a strong receiving room with the Vikings. But there will be opportunities for him to get onto the field.</p><p>The group will be headlined by the duo of Justin Jefferson and Adam Theilen. K.J. Valuable players who are no longer in one team’s plans can be incredibly helpful for another. This is the situation the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles found themselves in a day after they finalized their 53-man rosters. That’s when <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/eagles-news-jalen-reagor-traded-to-vikings-as-brutal-philly-tenure-comes-to-an-end/">an Eagles, Vikings deal</a> materialized that made sense for both clubs, and the Jalen Reagor trade went down.</p><p>In the Jalen Reagor trade, the Vikings are sending a seventh-round pick and a conditional fourth/fifth-round pick to the Eagles for the wide receiver, who was the No. 21 overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. Here are the grades for both sides of this Vikings, Eagles trade.</p><h2><b>Vikings trade grade</b></h2><p>The Vikings got some terrible news following the final preseason game vs. the Denver Broncos. Wide receiver Bisi Johnson tore his ACL and will again miss the entire season. The pass-catcher who showed so much promise in his 2019 rookie season is now out for the second consecutive year with an injury to the opposite ACL he tore last year.</p><p>That injury left the Vikings thin at WR. After Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, and K.J. Osborn, the team’s fourth wideout was sixth-round pick Jalen Nailor out of Michigan State.</p><p>The Jalen Reagor trade now gives the Vikings a proven NFL pass-catcher at WR4. Yes, Reagor has disappointed in his first two seasons. The first-rounder only has 64 catches for 695 yards and three touchdowns in his career. Those numbers pale in comparison to 2020 and 2021 first-round receivers like Ja’Marr Chase, Jaylen Waddle, DeVonta Smith, CeeDee Lamb, and his new teammate, Jefferson.</p><p>That’s all true, and plenty of it is Reagor’s fault, but his performance isn’t entirely on him. So far in his career, the former TCU WR has caught passes from Carson Wentz, Jalen Hurts, and Gardner Minshew. That’s not exactly Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and John Elway.</p><p>Kirk Cousins, flaws and all, will be — <i>by far</i> — the best QB Reagor has ever worked with in the NFL. Giving up a seventh and a fourth (if he plays well) isn’t nothing, but it is well worth it if the former first-rounder can start reaching his potential.</p><p>The Vikings’ hope has to be that, without the pressure of developing into a go-to guy right away, Reagor will be able to develop. Plus, he’ll be an excelltn punt returner for the team either way. All in all, the Jalen Reagor trade is a low-risk, high-reward deal for the Vikings.</p><p><b>GRADE:</b> A</p><h2><b>Eagles trade grade</b></h2><p>On the other side of this Eagles, Vikings trade, Philadelphia also did quite well. With burgeoning young stars DeVonta Smith and Quez Watkins already in the mix and A.J. Brown and Zach Pascal coming over in the offseason, the Jalen Reagor trade made sense because he was the odd man out of the WR rotation.</p><p>The fact is, the Eagles made a great deal in a vacuum, getting two mid-to-late-round draft picks for a player who the team probably would have cut otherwise.</p><p>That said, you can’t grade the trade solely in a vacuum.</p><p>The Eagles franchise still spent a first-round pick on Reagor ahead of Justin Jefferson, Brandon Aiyuk, Tee Higgins, Michael Pittman Jr., K.J. Hamler, Chase Claypool, Devin Duvernay, Gabriel Davis, Darnell Mooney, K.J. Osborn, and Watkins. Then, the coaching staff’s (both Doug Peterson and Nick Siriani’s) failed to develop him.</p><p>Because of that, the team can’t get an A grade for the Jalen Reagor trade. The Eagles did get something for what could have been nothing, though, so that means they did relatively well, considering the circumstances.</p><p><b>GRADE:</b> B+</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Ultimately, the team decided to hold on to the former TCU pass catcher. </p><p>Since joining the Eagles in 2020, Reagor has <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/R/ReagJa00.htm">underperformed</a> compared to what the team expected out of him. He has appeared in 28 total games, recording 64 receptions, 695 receiving yards, and three touchdowns.</p><p>On Tuesday, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman spoke with reporters to discuss the decision to hold on to Reagor.</p><p>Roseman spoke on what the team has seen from Reagor. Roseman stated, “I think when you look at Jalen, one of the things that one of our scouts said to me today is he was one of the only guys that practiced every day. The guy brought it every day. He worked on his craft. The Philadelphia Eagles are no different and there have been some notable players around the bubble making their case way they deserve a roster slot.</p><p>Perhaps the player with the most attention on him has been Jalen Reagor. The former first-round pick has <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/jalen-reagor-eagles-future-draws-honest-take-from-gm-howie-roseman/">struggled to find his footing</a> through his first two seasons in the NFL. Through two years, Reagor has recorded just 64 catches for 695 yards. The Eagles have made some notable additions to the wide receiver position around him which has made his Eagles’ future look murky. Guys like AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Quez Watkins, and Zach Pascal have climbed above the TCU product on the depth chart and made his talent more expandable.</p><p>Reagor certainly finds himself on the list of players needing to have a good week as the third preseason game approaches. He has had a mostly positive preseason thus far but will be looking to cement a spot for himself. The speedster is far from the only player who finds himself on the bubble as the cuts approach. Here are three other names that must make a strong impression to claim their roster spot.</p><h2>Eagles players who need big preseason Week 3 ahead of 53-man roster cuts</h2><p><b>Devon Allen</b></p><p>One player who has made an impressive impact thus far in camp is Devon Allen. The track star is known for his speed as he placed first in three 110-meter hurdle events this year. He also recorded the third-fastest time in track and field history at a race at the New York Grand Prix. The Eagles handed him a three-year deal worth $2.5 million this offseason, but only $40,000 is guaranteed if he does not make the 53-man roster. The touchdown he had against the Brown was a clear tease at what he is capable of, but Allen needs to continue showing his ability. The Oregon product has not played organized football since 2016 as he has been focusing on his track career. It is not surprising that there is a learning curve but continuing to build off his production is important. Having an impressive third game of the preseason would go a major way toward helping him clinch a spot on the roster.</p><p><b>Jason Huntley</b></p><p>The Eagles running back competition has become much more open than many expected. Miles Sanders has been the projected lead back but has not been able to entirely hold onto this role. Sanders has battled some injury concerns and his side-to-side style of running has not fully meshed with the Eagles’ offensive line. The Penn State product has missed time during training camp and his durability concerns have become a theme in recent years.</p><p>This has led Nick Sirianni to use more of a running-back-by-committee style of play call. Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott have each had some positive flashes and likely secured a spot on the roster. If Jason Huntley wants to ensure the Eagles elect to keep him as a fourth running back he must prove his worth with an impressive performance in Week 3. During the two seasons he has been with Philly so far, he has <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/H/HuntJa01.htm">received</a> just 18 carries for 70 yards.</p><p>In the opening preseason matchup against the Jets, Huntley had 16 carries for 48 yards and a touchdown. In the second matchup against the Browns, he had just 8 carries for 22 yards. While the number of reps should not be read into too much in the preseason, the longest rush in all of these touches being just 8 yards is somewhat concerning. Huntley will need to have a strong Week 3 performance as he looks to continue his NFL career in midnight green.</p><p><b>Carson Strong </b></p><p>While this may be more about opportunity than his actual performance, the future of Carson Strong currently does not appear likely to be on the Eagles. The former Nevada quarterback had some really promising flashes in college and has a number of the NFL tools that teams target. The biggest red was with his injury history which is likely the reason he went undrafted.</p><p>Through two preseason games, Strong has had just one pass attempt which fell incomplete. In contrast, Reid Sinnett has had some real positive flashes and seems to have cemented himself as the third-string quarterback. As the preseason winds down it should be expected that the deeper reserves get more of an opportunity. If Carson Strong is to secure a place within the Eagles franchise, he must capitalize on this opportunity when it occurs.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

It looks even worse when you see who was taken after Reagor: stud WRs like Justin Jefferson, Brandon Aiyuk, and Tee Higgins were on the board for them.</p><p>Despite that, it seems like the Eagles brass <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/jalen-reagor-eagles-future-draws-honest-take-from-gm-howie-roseman/">still has faith</a> in Reagor to put it all together. They are likely hoping that AJ Brown’s presence on the roster will motivate Reagor. Perhaps Brown can even teach Reagor a few tricks on how to lower his drop rate! However, the Philly faithful has seemingly lost all hope for the former first-round pick. In the big picture, it is currently not known on whether the Eagles received any interest from other teams for him over the 2022 NFL Draft.</p><p>From Eagles general manager Howie Roseman’s standpoint, Reagor will end up staying put with the team.</p><p>During a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTJ9bLwI0XQ" rel="noopener">press conference</a> on Saturday following the draft, Roseman was asked about Reagor’s current status on the team and if the wideout has requested a trade. Roseman went ahead and confirmed that the former TCU standout is not going anywhere.</p><blockquote>“Jalen Reagor is a Philadelphia Eagle, and he’s going to be here,” Roseman said. “We want to have good players in that room and good players on this team. He’s worked tremendously hard to get in shape and come into this off-season program, and now he has an opportunity. We don’t anticipate anything changing.”</blockquote><p>Reagor has had a rollercoaster run in his tenure with Philadelphia so far. He has logged 695 receiving yards to go along with a mere three receiving touchdowns recorded in 28 total games played over the past two <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/" rel="noopener">campaigns</a>.</p><p>Reagor moved back a spot in the Eagles’ wide receiver depth chart following the team’s acquisition of A.J. Brown from the Tennessee Titans. And taking into account the free agent signings of Greg Ward and Zach Pascal, he may have to up his play in order to continue to feature as a regular in the team’s wideout rotation.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Viewed by some as a breakout candidate for the Eagles prior to the 2021 NFL season, Reagor instead betrayed those expectations by underperforming for the most part of the campaign.</p><p>Eagles general manager Howie Roseman sums up what most Philly supporters think of where Reagor stand following another subpar season, per <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/jalen-reagor-howie-roseman-eagles-expected-more-at-this-point">Nick Shook of NFL.com</a>.</p><blockquote>“Certainly, heading into year three, expected more from Jalen at this point,” Roseman said Wednesday. “We had a chance to sit down with him after the season and had an honest conversation about the things that he needs to develop and the things that we can help him develop to continue his growth, in terms of learning from anything. We have to do that. We have to continue to evolve.”</blockquote><p>Reagor <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/eagles-news-jalen-reagors-place-among-phillys-wrs-after-disastrous-playoff-showing/">took a bit of a step back</a> in his sophomore year in the NFL, and that’s speaking a lot about how disappointing he’s been in the pros, considering that his rookie season was nothing to write home about. In his first year with the Eagles, Reagor had 296 receiving yards on 31 catches to go with a touchdown across 11 starts. In Year 2, he made 13 starts and recorded 33 receptions but was only able to convert them to 299 yards and two touchdowns.</p><p>It’s not too late for the former TCU Horned Frogs star to convince the Eagles that they were right in signing him to a four-year deal back in 2020, but he definitely is now pressured to show improvement next <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/schedule">season</a>.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Of course, it’s great news that DeVonta Smith is going to be a main part of the Eagles’ passing game moving forward. However, Sirianni definitely ruffled some feathers (no pun intended) when he brought up a bright future for Reagor in Philadelphia.</p><p>Most Eagles fans are done with Reagor after a disappointing regular season and a disastrous playoff outing. He has had more than his fair share of drops, with negative yardage in two regular season games.</p><p>The Eagles are lucky to have a decent amount of cap space, as well as three first round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft.
