While Cam Ward separated himself as the obvious top QB this year, several other passers are bound to jump up draft boards. One potential riser is former Syracuse standout Kyle McCord, who <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/nfl-rumors-kyle-mccord-whole-package-nfl-draft">some evaluators view as the total package</a>.</p><p>After beginning his college career with Ohio State, McCord transferred to Syracuse and had a monster senior season. The New Jersey native led the nation in attempts (592), completions (391) and passing yards (4,779). He threw for 34 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, finishing with a rating of 148.8.</p><p>The <a href="https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/nfl-confidential-who-wants-draft-qb-most" rel="noopener">prolific campaign</a> surpassed Donovan McNabb’s long standing single-season Syracuse records, according to FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz. And yet, McCord has largely gone unnoticed through the draft process despite playing exceptionally well at the college level and possessing legit NFL size at 6’3” and 218 pounds.</p><h2><b>Is Kyle McCord 2025’s big draft day riser?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Jets-Steelers-linked-to-record-breaking-Syracuse-QB-2.jpg"><figcaption>Brian Fluharty-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Well, McCord didn’t manage to remain invisible. The New York Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers have taken notice. Both teams have shown interest in landing a quarterback in the draft and McCord could be the best option, per Schultz.</p><p>Yes, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jets-rumors-insider-draft-prediction-justin-fields-signing">Jets recently signed Justin Fields</a> to a two-year deal. But with just $30 million guaranteed, Fields’ contract won’t prevent New York from selecting a quarterback if the team’s new leadership feels strongly about the pick.</p><p>The Jets have <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-rumors-jaxson-dart-buzz-louder-justin-fields-signing">primarily been linked to Jaxson Dart</a> and now McCord is making some noise. The issue for Gang Green is neither QB would be a good value with the seventh overall selection. The Jets would love to grab McCord in the middle rounds. But chances are he’ll be gone by then. And if the team waits on a signal caller until the second round, Dart could be long gone as well.</p><p>The Steelers on the other hand are better positioned to select <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/steelers-rumors-insider-case-3-qbs-2025-nfl-draft">Dart, Tyler Shough or Shedeur Sanders</a> – assuming he falls in the first round – when they’re on the clock with the 21st pick. However, Pittsburgh doesn’t have a second-round selection so the team will either have to pull the trigger early or trade up from the third to get one of those three passers.</p><p>The Steelers have shown an interest in McCord as well as the team visited with the passer earlier this week. Pittsburgh is still waiting on <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/steelers-news-aaron-rodgers-potential-free-agency-deadline-pittsburgh">Aaron Rodgers’ free agency decision</a>, which could have a significant impact on how the team approaches the draft. But regardless of what the future Hall of Famer decides, the Steelers will likely take a quarterback at some point in this year’s draft.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

New York<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-hiring-aaron-glenn-head-coach"> hired former Lions DC Aaron Glenn as their next head coach</a>. He got right to work putting his stamp on the team, with his biggest move being moving on from Aaron Rodgers. The veteran quarterback spoke about that experience in a recent interview.</p><p>Rodgers <a href="https://x.com/ZackBlatt/status/1912920918181187681" rel="noopener">used the word ‘strange’ to describe his last meeting</a> with Jets’ leadership in his Thursday interview on The Pat McAfee Show.</p><p>“Listen, that was an interesting two years to say the least. I figured that when I flew across country to my dime there would be a conversation,” Rodgers said via The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt. “The confusing thing to me is I went out there, I meet with the coach, we start talking … he runs out of the room. I’m like that’s strange. Then he comes back with the GM and I’m like all right. So we sit down and I think we’re going to have this long conversation and 20 seconds in and he (Glenn) goes: You sure you wanna play football? And I said yes and he said ‘we’re going in another direction.'”</p><p>It sounds like Rodgers may have left out some of that conversation. Regardless, it is clear that there is some bad blood between Rodgers and the Jets following the end of their tumultuous two-year relationship.</p><p>The Jets eventually released Rodgers and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-justin-fields-40-million-contract-free-agency">replaced him by signing Justin Fields</a> in free agency.</p><h2><b>Aaron Rodgers opens up on retirement thoughts amid Steelers rumors</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Aaron-Rodgers_988424.jpg"><figcaption>Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Aaron Rodgers also opened up on his future in the NFL during the same interview.</p><p>R<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/steelers-rumors-ian-rapoport-makes-aaron-rodgers-declaration-amid-free-agency-wait">odgers has been rumored to be interested in joining the Pittsburgh Steelers</a>. However, negotiations appear to be at a standstill just a week before the 2025 NFL Draft.</p><p>Rodgers seemed to <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1912922085845778914" rel="noopener">tease that he’s leaning towards retirement</a> with his most recent statements.</p><p>“I’m in a different phase of my life, I’m 41 years old, I’m in a serious relationship… People in my inner inner circle battling difficult stuff… To make a commitment to a team is a big thing,” Rodgers said.</p><p>There was never a guarantee that Rodgers would want to play in 2025 at 41 years old.</p><p>Rodgers seems uncertain about his future, but that uncertainty could seal his fate. It would be shocking if any NFL team waits around for Rodgers after the 2025 NFL Draft.</p><p>If Rodgers does decide to play again, he may have to wait until this fall to sign with a team.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Maybe it’s another offensive lineman, A really strong defensive line, and edge draft early on, maybe they go there. The Jets filled those roles with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-hiring-aaron-glenn-head-coach">Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn</a> and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-pluck-new-gm-broncos-front-office">Denver Broncos assistant general manager Darren Mougey</a>. New York appears to be trending up and currently has eight picks in the upcoming draft, including No. 7 overall. In an interview with NFL.com’s Kevin Patra, Field <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/qb-justin-fields-not-worried-about-jets-drafting-his-replacement-ahead-of-first-season-in-new-york" rel="noopener">responded to the rumors</a> of the organization drafting a QB with one of those picks.</p><p>“I don’t really like to answer rhetorical questions, but like I said, I’m willing to teach. However, I’m not really interested in, you know, rhetorical questions. I think that’s above my pay grade, so I’m gonna roll with whatever they choose.”</p><p>Outside of Fields, New York has made several under-the-radar free agency moves, specifically focused on rebuilding the offensive line. With the NFL Draft looming, the Jets’ current roster has specific weaknesses that must be addressed. The offensive line still could use an upgrade at right tackle, and the wideout and tight end cores are thin. That being said, a recent mock draft from SB Nation <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/2025/4/4/24399550/nfl-mock-draft-2025-shedeur-sanders-qb-colorado-new-york-jets?utm_source=chatgpt.com" rel="noopener">projected the</a> Jets selecting Shedeur Sanders from Colorado with the seventh overall pick. </p><p>So far, the organization has shown its commitment to Fields as the starter. But the 25-year-old is on his third team in the league. A former first-round pick out of Ohio State, Fields started his career with the Chicago Bears. The NFC North franchise did a dismal job surrounding its new starter with an adequate supporting cast over these years. Still, at times, Fields displayed his massive potential as a dual-threat quarterback, particularly in his sophomore season. That year, Fields posted a QBR that <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/qbr/_/season/2022/seasontype/2" rel="noopener">ranked 15th</a> in the league while rushing for over 1,000 yards.</p><p>Last season, Fields was with the Steelers, where he started six games before being replaced by Russell Wilson. Overall, there are plenty of other positions the Jets should focus on in this draft besides quarterback. With a few upgrades, this roster has the talent to compete for a playoff spot, even in a loaded AFC. After their brutal season last year, they poached the Detroit Lions’ defensive coordinator from Dan Campbell’s staff. Many coaches have been heralded as the guy who can turn the sinking Jets’ ship around. Campbell told Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk that Glenn i<a href="https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/dan-campbell-on-aaron-glenn-if-he-cant-turn-the-jets-around-nobody-can" rel="noopener">s the guy who can do it</a>.</p><p>“As long as he’s got the support, A.G. will turn that thing around,” Campbell said. “There’s no question. He’s an unbelievable leader and he’s an even better person. He’s the type of guy who makes people rally around him and do things to help him have success. So he is going to bring the right type of people around him. He’s already done that with the coaches and he’ll bring the right kind of players. Look, if he can’t, nobody can, that’s my opinion.”</p><p>A jaded Jets fan, which is the only type at this point, would tell you that every coach has come in with this type of hype. Robert Saleh led the 49ers’ defense to the Super Bowl, Adam Gase had the Peyton Manning stamp of approval, and Todd Bowles showed promise in season one. But Glenn is not the only one getting the compliments.</p><h2><b>Aaron Glenn’s staff will be important to the Jets’ success</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Aaron-Glenn-at-Scouting-Combine.jpg"><figcaption>Kirby Lee-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>As with any coach hiring, Jets fans were eager to see who Glenn would bring in as the coordinators. Steve Wilks was fired by the 49ers after a Super Bowl appearance in 2023-24 and is now on New York’s staff. Another leader who can carry the defense without Glenn’s assistance is key to the head coach’s success.</p><p>The Jets’ biggest issue for years has been their offense, so the offensive coordinator is the bigger deal. T<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jets-news-aaron-glenn-poaches-lions-new-york-oc">anner Engstrand has never called an NFL play</a> but worked for the Lions from 2020-24. He was part of the compliment from Campbell and has fans across the league. Engstrand has called plays in the XFL and college.</p><p>All of that said, the Jets will not be expected to do much this season. Despite their brutal record last year, they got worse on paper. Justin Fields has a lot to live up to statistically compared to Aaron Rodgers, they do not have a second receiver behind Garrett Wilson, and they lost CJ Mosley. Behind Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, and Sauce Gardner, they do not have elite talent to build around. Pitts had that promise when he came into the league in 2021, but he has not lived up to that in his NFL career. The thought process is right for the Jets, get <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jets-news-justin-fields-40-million-contract-free-agency">solid offensive players around Justin Fields</a> and eventually a rookie, but Pitts is not the right guy.</p><p>Giving up a third-round pick in 2026 is essentially like the Eagles or Chiefs giving up a second-rounder. The Jets will be near the top of the draft next year and be picking near the top of that third round. But if Pitts blossoms into what he was promised, that is a low price to pay.</p><p>Moving down eight spots in what is being considered a weak NFL Draft is a tough sell for a team in desperate need of talent. They could use that third-round pick in a different trade and stay at number seven if that is the path they wanted to go. They could also draft Penn State tight end Tyler Warren at number seven. Pitts may not be that valuable to the Jets, who should be looking to save money to sign Wilson and Gardner. This would add another expiring rookie deal to their cap sheet.</p><p><b>Jets grade: C+</b></p><h2><b>A head-scratcher for the Falcons</b></h2><p>The Atlanta Falcons are looking to trade Kirk Cousins and could potentially cut him after June 1 to make Michael Penix Jr their starter. Trading away a pass-catcher with upside when trying to develop a second-year quarterback is nonsensical. Yes, Pitts has not been the talent they were hoping for when they picked him fourth. But he is still a solid option holding down an important spot on the depth chart.</p><p>The Falcons have plenty of needs, especially on the defensive side of the ball. They can move up in the draft to take Mason Graham or Jalon Walker if they want to, but should not create other needs to do so. This would create a need that not even a breakout Drake London season could solve.</p><p>The third-round pick is a nice pickup, especially considering they may have to attach a pick to get rid of Cousins. But none of this is worth it. If they want to let Pitts walk in free agency after the season, they can do that. But not giving him a chance to succeed with Penix is selling the asset at its lowest.</p><p><b>Falcons grade: D+</b></p><h2><b>Final Kyle Pitts trade thoughts</b></h2><p>This is not a wise move for either side. If Pitts does blossom into a star, the Falcons will live to regret this deal. The Jets need to take the best player they can get their hands on at the 2025 NFL Draft. Passing up the opportunity to take Graham or Walker is not the way Darren Mougey should start his GM tenure.</p><p>If the Jets are looking for a tight end, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/penn-state-footballs-tyler-warren-gets-major-nfl-combine-draft-updates">Tyler Warren should be available at number seven</a>. After passing on Brock Bowers last year, they can’t pass up on that type of talent again. After the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-woody-johnson-gets-brutally-honest-aaron-rodgers-future">Jets released Rodgers</a> in the offseason, a new era is beginning with owner Woody Johnson.</p><p>The latter explained via Rich Cimini of ESPN about how Rodgers’s <a href="https://x.com/RichCimini/status/1906789630373924897" rel="noopener">time was with the franchise</a>.</p><p>“The experiment was a good experiment, to bring him in, but it just didn’t work out, as you can see,” Johnson said. “I have a lot of respect for Aaron Rodgers. He is a great player, a Hall of Famer player. I’m sorry it didn’t work out.”</p><p>The era was short-lived and full of drama. Although the quarterback didn’t do his team any favors, the organization was a complete mess.</p><p>For starters, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-nobody-buying-woody-johnson-aaron-rodgers-robert-saleh-firing">Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh</a> midway through the year. Then, the fired general manager Joe Douglas weeks after. It put a stamp on the team trying to salvage a season.</p><p>By the time those moves took place, the camaraderie was dead. Guys looked fed up with playing with each other. There was even an instance of Johnson’s son interfering in the locker room following the game.</p><p>Regardless, it was clear that both sides needed to turn the page and start fresh.</p><h2><b>Jets’ Woody Johnson was grateful for the Aaron Rodgers</b></h2><p>Landing a Hall of Fame quarterback is never easy to do in the NFL. After a disappointing end to his Green Bay Packers career, Rodgers was ready for a new start.</p><p>However, within the first possession with his new team, Rodgers tore his Achilles. That sidelined him for the remainder of the 2023-24 season. Even though <a href="https://www.newyorkjets.com/news/jets-2023-quarterback-reset-aaron-rodgers" rel="noopener">the quarterback carousel</a> was in full effect, the Jets were ready for Rodgers’s return.</p><p>Although he didn’t have a bad statistical 2024-25 season, there wasn’t that same fire. Some of it can be attributed to Johnson having his thumb on the scale.</p><p>There was a barrage of unnecessary moves he made. Some of which seemed to irritate Rodgers more than help him. Either way, it seemed to never be an ideal fit for either side.</p><p>With a fresh start, the Jets have their head coach of the future, Aaron Glenn. The latter made it clear that they want to move on from Rodgers.</p><p>On the flip side, the former New York quarterback is looking for his next team. Teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers have been rumored as a potential landing spot.</p><p>At the end of the day, Johnson was grateful for the opportunity to have Rodgers, even if it didn’t work out as envisioned.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
