That’s everything you really need to know. But I’m in Vegas. I’m doing a lot of appearances, I’m doing a lot of interviews, and I’m everywhere. I blame my people for not letting me know what I was walking into, sadly. And then I walked in, did a little interview. Like, ‘Oh, y’all boys from Chicago?’ I didn’t really know what was going on in the interview, to be honest.</p><p>“Like, I didn’t know if it was live, I didn’t know if this is a recording, but my mind was everywhere. I mean, I really do think he was a good offensive coordinator.”</p><p>This is where the interview had a bit of déjà vu from the last instance, as Jaxon Smith-Njigba just stared at Shenault after saying Shane Waldron was a good offensive coordinator, creating a bit of an awkward — yet, hilarious — silence.</p><p>Shenault busted out laughing after maybe a second of silence, and Smith-Njigba likely felt a similar feeling when CHGO interviewed him in 2024.</p><p>“Okay, don’t put it in like that,” JSN said, followed by laughs of his own. “No, no, no. But I did think we had a good season, but — me as a competitor — I’m like, we didn’t make the playoffs. I didn’t even feel like we threw the ball well. Like, I just wanted more, and we didn’t succeed to that. We didn’t get to that. And so, no one had asked me how I felt after the season, and that was like the first time, so I was just caught off guard, and I knew I couldn’t say what I wanted to say for real.</p><p>“But, I had a pleasure of working with Shane Waldron because it allowed me to experience the NFL. He was my first offensive coordinator, and I caught 60-something balls. Overall, I’m thankful for my experience. I’m thankful that he was there. They have been tutored by the 32-year-old Lockett, who is nearing the end of his career.</p><p>While the Seahawks will see Lockett’s career end soon, they should be excited about their future at wide receiver. Even with Geno Smith’s occasional struggles, both Metcalf and Smith-Njigba are off to great starts in their careers. It was the first 100-catch season in Seahawks history, breaking Doug Baldwin’s 94-catch mark from 2016. Smith-Njigba is at 96 catches due to a great second half in his second season.</p><p>The Seahawks had their flaws in the first season <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl-rumors-commanders-offered-head-coaching-gig-mike-macdonald-seahawks-outbid-them">under new head coach Mike Macdonald</a>. Even though they started the season 3-0 and won four straight games after the bye, they endured too many losing streaks to compete for the division title. But they have a chance to make franchise history on Sunday, showing their bright future.</p><p>There are few wide receiver rooms better than the Seahawks in the NFL. In the past three seasons, they have won 27 games and made one playoff appearance. While Smith has been a great bridge quarterback, it is time to get to the other end of the bridge.</p><p>Smith-Njigba’s season proves that the Seahawks need a franchise quarterback. With three great wide receivers, a solid running back duo, and an ascending defense, they still did not make the playoffs. If they land a quarterback in free agency or the draft, they could be the favorites in an ever-changing NFC West next season.</p><p>The quarterback situation with the Minnesota Vikings should be of interest to the Seahawks front office. Sam Darnold has played like a franchise quarterback this season but is a free agent. The original plan was to pass the reigns off to JJ McCarthy after he recovered from a knee injury. But now they have a tough decision to make.</p><p>If McCarthy is available in a trade, the Seahawks could keep Smith and have a quarterback battle in training camp. The Seahawks feel like they’re just rounding into shape on offense.</p><p>Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf <a href="https://x.com/MikeDugar/status/1836561435448742166" rel="noopener">dropped a stern warning to opposing defenses</a> when talking with the media on Wednesday.</p><p>“I don’t think it was good. I think it was bad for the defenses that try to cover us from here on out,” Metcalf told reporters, per Michael-Shawn Dugar. “You’ve got Lock, me, Jax, you’ve still haven’t seen Noah. You saw Ken in Week 1, Zach Charbonnet still has to break out. So I think it’s just a ticking time bomb for all of our stars on offense to just have their game.”</p><p>Metcalf went out of his way to highlight all of the weapons on Seattle’s offense. Jaxon-Smith Njigba is proving that he has what it takes to become a top NFL receiver. JSN had a breakout performance against the Patriots with 12 receptions for 117 yards.</p><p>The Seattle <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/seahawks-2023-nfl-draft-grades">Seahawks drafted Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft</a>. JSN was an impressive receiver at Ohio State and had a solid rookie season statistically, though he was not a highlighted part of Seattle’s offense. He did not disappoint, completing 33 passes for 327 yards and a touchdown.</p><p><a href="https://x.com/_AndrewCallahan/status/1835776880164897136" rel="noopener">When you drill down to passes against the blitz</a>, it looks even better. Smith went 10-of-12 for 171 yards and one touchdown when facing a blitz against the Patriots, per Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald.</p><p>Mike Macdonald, the Seahawk’s first-year head coach, is known for his innovative defensive scheme. There were some cracks in the foundation in recent years, but Carroll was the only coach in Seahawks history to win a Super Bowl and his enthusiastic attitude led to a team that overachieved more often than it disappointed. The Seahawks are looking forward to starting the Macdonald tenure with an explosive offensive unit that includes big plays from wide out Jaxon Smith-Njigba.</p><p>The talent level the Seahawks will offer on the offensive side of the ball is impressive. In addition to Smith-Njigba, wide receivers Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf are both gamebreakers. The combination of Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet is more than strong enough for the Seahawks to deliver a consistent running attack.</p><p>If Geno Smith can stay healthy and adapt to life without Carroll, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/seahawks-news-seattle-interested-in-adding-former-browns-signal-caller-to-qb-room">the Seahawks</a> have a very competent trigger man under center. There’s every reason to believe that Smith-Njigba will be one of his top producers as the former Ohio State star enters his second year in the NFL.</p><h2><b>Jaxon Smith-Njigba needed some time to get started during his rookie season</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/The-Seahawks-are-expecting-a-big-year-from-Jaxon-Smith-Njigba.jpg"><figcaption>Mandatory Credit: Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>The start of the 2023 season was something of a disappointment for Smith-Njigba. Not because of his play on the field, but because he suffered an unfortunate fractured wrist in Seattle’s second preseason game.</p><p>He was able to return to the lineup in time for the season opener against the Los Angeles Rams, but it took quite a while for Smith-Njigba to hit his stride. He completed the season with respectable numbers that included 63 receptions for 628 yards and 4 touchdowns.</p><p>“I felt like it was a good foundation,” <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/mike-macdonald-wr-jaxon-smith-njigba-to-be-massive-piece-of-seahawks-offense">Smith-Njigba said</a>. “I can grow from it. A lot of growing pains, a lot of ups and downs, but kind of similar from first years of college and in high school. Kind of the same thing.”</p><p>In addition to the injury, Smith-Njigba had to learn what it was to be a supporting player in the offense and not the go-to superstar. Metcalf and Lockett are established receivers, while the running back combination of Walker and Charbonnet gave the Seahawks a tandem that few teams can match.</p><h2><b>Macdonald sees big things for Smith-Njigba in 2024</b></h2><p>Smith-Njigba has many of the characteristics of a top-flight NFL wide receiver. He has adequate size at 6-0 and 202 pounds that he combines with excellent hands and body control. He can win the battle and high point the ball, and he has wonderful timing when it comes to setting up opposing defensive backs.</p><p>As a result of his skills, Macdonald believes that Smith-Njigba will make a major contribution to Seattle’s offense.</p><p>“He’s a guy that we can focus our offense around, along with other guys,” <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40350388/seahawks-wr-jaxon-smith-njigba-strong-start-year-2">Macdonald said</a>. “Tyler Lockett is still a great player. DK Metcalf, phenomenal player. The runners, (TE) Noah Fant. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/seahawks-news-jaxon-smith-njigba-completes-nfl-rookie-feat-not-seen-since-1960">His impressive play</a> down the stretch even sparked some Lockett trade rumors, although it doesn’t seem like the Seahawks ever seriously considered moving Lockett.</p><h2><b>Where do the Seahawks stand heading into 2024?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Jaxon-Smith-Njigba.jpg"><figcaption>Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Seattle went 9-8 this past season, missing the playoffs. For a while, it looked like the Seahawks were a playoff team, as they were 6-3 at one point. However, a four-game losing streak doomed them, and not even winning three of their last four games could save them.</p><p>So, where exactly does Seattle stand heading into 2024?</p><p>Well, right now, the Seahawks are clearly the third-best team in the NFC West. The San Francisco 49ers are the most talented team in the NFC, and the Los Angeles Rams are considered dark horse Super Bowl contenders by some. Plus, the Arizona Cardinals should be better this coming season with a full, healthy season of Kyler Murray.</p><p>In other words, Seattle has a tough road ahead, as those six divisional games will be brutal.</p><p>The Seahawks’ overall schedule isn’t incredibly difficult, but it’s not exactly easy, either. It features road games against the Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons and Chicago Bears. Plus, Seattle will have to battle the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers. Those games will be at home, but those are still some pretty tough opponents.</p><p>From a talent perspective, the Seahawks are really middle of the pack, much like their 2023 record indicated. Geno Smith is a capable quarterback, but he definitely isn’t the best. Their wide receivers are good, but their running game is ordinary, and defensively, Seattle was terrible last season, ranking 30th in the NFL. The front office didn’t do a whole lot to improve in that area this offseason, either.</p><p>If Smith can revert back to his 2022 form where he led the league in completion percentage and threw 30 touchdowns, the Seahawks will have a chance to make it back to the postseason. But if he plays like he did this past year, Seattle will probably be a seven-to-nine win ballclub again. Good enough to contend for a playoff spot and win some games against tough opponents, but not good enough to actually make the postseason or make a deep playoff run.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

This was the key to Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks’ success in beating the Philadelphia Eagles and keeping their playoff aspirations alive. Usual performers did well like DK Metcalf, Kenneth Walker III, and Zach Charbonnet. But, one rookie that always stands out in<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/seahawks-news-fans-explode-jaxon-smith-njigba-insane-game-winning-td-eagles" rel="noopener"> the clutch is Jaxon Smith-Njigba</a>.</p><p>The Seahawks rookie notched a feat that no one else has done since 1960. Jaxon Smith-Njigba became the only player in<a href="https://twitter.com/ESPNStatsInfo/status/1736969972289610199" rel="noopener"> over half a century</a> to have two game-winning touchdown receptions in the final minute of the fourth quarter, per ESPN Stats &amp; Info. He last did it against the Cleveland Browns and showed out again this time around.</p><p>Pete Carroll knew exactly what schematic he should run in the final minute against the Eagles. He <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/seahawks-news-pete-carroll-drew-lock-geno-smith-week-16-titans" rel="noopener">kept the rookie Seahawks’ weapon</a> inside the field and allowed Drew Lock to find him through a tough dart. This 29-yard pass sucked the life out of the Eagles’ bench as they realized there would not be enough time for a comeback.</p><p>But, Smith-Njigba is not just reliable in the clutch. He grabbed four receptions out of the air throughout the whole game. This netted the Seahawks 48 receiving yards with an average yardage of 12 per snap. The game-winning touchdown was the extremely sweet cherry on top of his outing.</p><p>Overall, opposing teams should be wary of defending the Seahawks rookie. Cody Thompson got a positive update. Darell Taylor and Derrick Hall are both nursing a shoulder ailment. It also meant that both of them were limited in terms of activities. Outside of ClutchPoints, Meyers does play-by-play broadcasting for various colleges in the northeast.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NFL</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Seattle Seahawks boast one of the best wide-receiving cores in the NFL and it should be out in full force for their 2023 season opener on Sunday.</p><p>Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday that he expects rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba to play and <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1699505792959836503" rel="noopener">make his NFL debut</a> on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, according to Adam Schefter.</p><p>Smith-Njigba suffered a wrist injury during training camp that required surgery, which was performed on Aug. 24. Miraculously, he was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/seahawks-news-jaxon-smith-njigba-astonishing-move-just-a-week-after-surgery-has-geno-smith-hyped" rel="noopener">back at practice five days later</a> and is expected to go Week 1 with no limitations.</p><p>The Seahawks selected Smith-Njigba in the first round of April’s draft as the first wide receiver off the board despite only playing three games during his junior season at Ohio State. He joins DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in an uber-talented pass-catching group for Seattle.</p><p>The Seahawks had the 12th-ranked passing offense and ninth-ranked scoring offense in the league last season. Both numbers figure to improve this year with the addition of Smith-Njigba.</p><p>Seattle surprisingly reached the playoffs last year led by quarterback Geno Smith. Given the talent they possess on offense in 2023, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl-odds-seattle-seahawks-betting-specials-for-2023" rel="noopener">back in the postseason</a> next winter.</p><p>Jaxon Smith-Njigba had one stellar season in college and that was enough to convince the Seahawks to use a first-round pick on him. He’s rewarded them already with an impeccable work ethic and eagerness to get healthy and get on the field.
