That means they won’t have a bye in the first week of the playoffs and will have to go on the road.</p><p>Wide receiver Jordan Addison played a key role in the victory for the Vikings as he caught 6 passes for 69 yards and an 18-yard touchdown reception early in the third quarter that gave Minnesota a 20-3 lead. Addison gave <a href="https://twitter.com/TomPelissero/status/1873529573415223318">this assessment</a> of the win over the Packers and sent a message to Vikings fans about the Week 18 game with the Lions.</p><p>“It felt good,” Addison said in his postgame interview with the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. “It’s a division game and we knew it was going to be a dog fight. However, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/vikings-news-vikings-defense-gets-major-bump-week-17-vs-packers">the Vikings defense</a> frustrated Love for the first three-plus quarters of the game and allowed the home team to build a big lead.</p><p>Much of that was due to the performance of Darnold, who torched the Packers at multiple points. Darnold came out firing and he completed 33 of 43 passes for 377 yards with 3 TD passes and 1 interception. In addition to his scoring pass to Addison, he also hit Jalen Nailor and running back Cam Aker with TD passes. Superstar wideout Justin Jefferson did not get into the end zone but he did catch 8 passes for 92 yards.</p><p>Darnold’s most important completion came on the team’s final possession after the Packers had closed to within two points. On a 3rd-and-2 play from from the Green Bay 49 with 1:49 remaining, Darnold tossed a short pass to Akers that resulted in a finger-tip grab and a first down. The Vikings simply have to win in Week 17 and they face a familiar foe in the Packers. Minnesota will need a strong performance from their offense if they’re going to win this game.</p><p>If you ask Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison, it is no problem. Addison <a href="https://x.com/TomPelissero/status/1873386572684419319" rel="noopener">made a bold MVP take</a> about his QB Sam Darnold during a recent interview.</p><p>“You mean the MVP?,” Addison told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero when asked what he is seeing from Darnold lately. “Man we’ve seen it all. He’s calling the shots right now, he is comfortable in the scheme and every week he is showing up.”</p><p>Both Addison and Darnold are having the best season of their NFL careers. Addison has hauled in 56 receptions for 806 yards and eight touchdowns with two games to play. He only needs roughly 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns to match the production from his rookie season.</p><p>Meanwhile, Darnold has thrown for 3,776 yards with 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. All of these stats are the best single-season marks of Darnolds career, and he is playing like one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the entire NFL.</p><p>Pelissero said that he told Addison that you don’t really see Darnold’s name a whole lot in the MVP conversations. Addison replied by saying “that’s because they’re just sleeping on us right now. That is no easy task, as it means beating the Packers and then beating the Lions in Week 18.</p><p>If the Vikings can pull this off, they will both win the NFC North and secure a top seed in the playoffs. Getting the No. 1 seed is more important than ever, as it means an extra week of rest and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.</p><p>On the other hand, losing in Week 17 would be a disaster for Minnesota. If they lose against Green Bay on Sunday, and Detroit beats San Francisco on Monday, then the Lions will earn the No. 1 seed for themselves. All seems to well heading into Week 4, and the injury report looks clean, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.</p><p>“Vikings WR Jordan Addison (ankle) is off the injury report and good to go Sunday at Green Bay. QB Sam Darnold (knee), edge Dallas Turner (knee) and LT Christian Darrisaw (illness) also off the final injury report,” Pelissero wrote on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Darnold suffered a knee injury against the Texans, but an MRI revealed that it was only a knee bruise and didn’t suffer any structural damage to the knee. There was a lot of optimism that Darnold would be fine for Week 4, and it looks like that positivity garnered positive results.</p><p>Addison has missed the past two games with an ankle injury, but after this week’s practice, he said he was <a href="https://www.startribune.com/vikings-injury-report-jordan-addison-christian-darrisaw-dallas-turner-packers/601152459" rel="noopener">ready to go</a> and set to play against the Green Bay Packers.</p><p>“I’m feeling good to jump back in,” Addison said. “We hot right now. Sam Darnold looking good. The O-line is playing good. We got a good run game going. I feel like having me out there is just going to take it up a notch.”</p><h2>Vikings looking to keep win streak alive</h2><p>The Vikings have been one of the surprise teams this season, and they’re looking to start the season 4-0 with a win against the Packers. The seven-year veteran’s efforts have not gone unnoticed as <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/vikings-news-sam-darnolds-nfl-mvp-odds-dominant-3-0-start">Darnold now has the 11th best odds to win NFL MVP</a> this season.</p><p>While Darnold’s top weapon, all-world wideout Justin Jefferson, suffered an injury scare in Week Two, the Vikings’ fifth-year receiver avoided missing time. Jefferson’s counterpart, wideout Jordan Addison, wasn’t as lucky. However, wide receiver Jordan Addison has reportedly been ruled out for Sunday’s game with an ankle injury, per Pelissero as well.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/vikings-news-justin-jefferson-on-track-play-week-3-quad-injury">Jefferson has been dealing with a quad injury</a> but he is seemingly ready to play in this contest. Addison’s injury is concerning, however, as he is set to miss the Week 3 clash.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/vikings-news-justin-jefferson-squashes-injury-concerns">Jefferson recently made it clear that he was trending in a promising direction</a>. Still, nothing was official until Friday afternoon.</p><p>Minnesota holds a 2-0 record, but Houston is also 2-0. Sunday’s Week 3 game projects to be extremely competitive between these two potential playoff teams. Addison will be missed without question, but Jefferson’s presence will give the Vikings a legitimate opportunity to improve to 3-0 at home against the Texans in the game.</p><h2><b>Justin Jefferson playing well to begin Vikings’ 2024 season</b></h2><p>Jefferson is arguably the best wide receiver in the entire league when healthy. He has led the Vikings to their 2-0 record so far in 2024.</p><p>The 25-year-old superstar has recorded eight receptions for 192 yards and two touchdowns during the ’24 campaign up to this point. He always commands no shortage of defensive pressure but still manages to play at an elite level.</p><p>The Texans understand that trying to find a way to contain Jefferson will be of the utmost importance. Second-year wide receiver Jordan Addison will be <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1834659044797342043" rel="noopener">inactive with an ankle injury</a>, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.</p><p>All signs were unfortunately pointing this way for the Vikings. Addison dealt with a left ankle issue in training camp but suited up in last Sunday’s season opening win over the New York Giants. He sprained his right ankle,<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/vikings-news-jordan-addison-locker-room-ankle-injury-giants"> exited the game</a> and did not log a single practice session this week.</p><p>Minnesota quarterback Sam Darnold still has arguably the best receiver in the NFL at his disposal in Justin Jefferson, but depth is often needed to conquer San Francisco’s huge wealth of talent. Addison finished second on the team in receptions, receiving yards and targets in Week 1 (three catches for 35 yards on four targets), so his absence will likely be felt.</p><h2><b>Vikings will have to get creative vs. 49ers</b></h2><p>49ers defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen can now focus much of his attention on neutralizing Jefferson, which would dare the Vikings to beat his guys with their unheralded pass-catchers or veteran running back Aaron Jones (14 carries for 94 yards and one touchdown). Fortunately, head coach Kevin O’Connell possesses plenty of offensive creativity. Perhaps he can devise a game plan that will at least give his team a fighting chance on Sunday.</p><p>Otherwise, he will need the defense to once again set the tone. The home crowd in U.S. Bank Stadium should hopefully embolden a unit that absolutely <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/vikings-news-vikings-kevin-oconnell-drops-unbelievable-take-after-dominating-giants">tormented Giants QB Daniel Jones</a> in the Meadowlands. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/49ers-news-deebo-samuel-brock-purdy-quality-through-roof">Brock Purdy is an excellent decision-maker</a>, but he has a couple of turnover-riddled games under his belt. Vikings DC Brian Flores might be able to make the young signal-caller fidget a bit, especially if he can shut down banged-up RB Christian McCaffrey or backup Jordan Mason.</p><p>There are a couple different approaches Minnesota’s coaching staff can take in preparation for the 49ers, but none of them will include Jordan Addison. He had missed several practices leading up to the first game, but head coach Kevin O’Connell gave him the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/vikings-news-jordan-addison-week-1-injury" rel="noopener">green light for Sunday, saying Addison was “good to go”</a> this week.</p><p>When Addison left the game, he had three catches for 35 yards and his team was cruising to a Week 1 win, beating the Giants 28-6 when the WR went off. Addison was just one of the Vikings receivers getting action vs. the G Men as quarterback Sam Darnold started hot, completing all of his first 10 passes.</p><h2><b>Jordan Addison is key for the Vikings’ season</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Jordan-Addison.jpg"><figcaption>Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Addison had an excellent rookie season last year, putting up 70 catches for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns. A lot of those game-to-game performances helped carry the team, too, as Justin Jefferson missed several weeks.</p><p>This year, the Vikings are entering a new era, with quarterback Kirk Cousins out and Sam Darnold in after first-round pick J.J. McCarthy got hurt and went out for the season. So, if the Vikings hope to compete for the playoffs again, they will need Jefferson and Addison to form one of the most dynamic WR duos in the league.</p><p>While the Giants are not good in 2024, Week 1 has to be a good sign as far as performance goes, as the Vikings made light work of their opponents. The Vikings may take some time to find their groove, but there is potential with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison leading the way.</p><h2><b>Jordan Addison set for impactful 2024 season with Vikings</b></h2><p>The 22-year-old displayed flashes of stardom during his rookie season in 2023. He finished the year with 70 receptions and 911 yards to go along with 10 touchdowns through the air.</p><p>Jefferson, of course, is among the best receivers in the entire NFL. The question is whether or not Sam Darnold will play well enough to truly make a positive impact.</p><p>Jefferson and Addison are both good enough to record impressive numbers regardless of who the quarterback is. With that being said, everyone around the NFL world knows that having a talented QB only helps receivers. Darnold has a big arm and he isn’t a bad QB, but he’s been inconsistent at times in his career.</p><p>If anything, playing with Jefferson and Addison should help the Vikings quarterback. The fact that he was only 89 yards away from a big 1,000-yard season is not the most impressive part. It was that he caught balls with an average gain of 13 yards. This is a big testament to how great he is at route running and keeping the ball intact on checkdowns.</p><p>With all of that said, not having him would be a fairly big loss. Jefferson will likely be the main target for air attacks when Addison won’t be present which makes their offense quite predictable. Moreover, the Vikings also lose a lot of depth because of this.
