On an all-important third down, Poyer’s helmet-to-helmet hit on Bills receiver Keon Coleman turned what would have been an incomplete pass into a penalty, extending the drive.</p><p>Poyer’s hit on Coleman drew an unnecessary roughness penalty, resulting in a 15-yard penalty rather than a 39-yard spot foul. Despite the setback, the Bills managed to edge out the Dolphins 30-27 with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bills-news-tyler-bass-redemption-historic-61-yard-game-winner-stun-dolphins">Tyler Bass nailing a 61-yard field goal</a> with just five seconds left on the clock.</p><p>“I literally didn’t stop my feet and I felt like I hit him right where I was supposed to hit him. The ref didn’t think so,” Poyer said <a href="https://www.twitter.com/Marcel_LJ/status/1853190735891140674" rel="noopener">during the post-game</a> press conference.</p><p>The penalty advanced the ball to Buffalo’s 46-yard line. Given the NFL’s strict stance on protecting defenseless receivers, Poyer could likely expect a fine for the hit. Though the league examines intent — and this hit appeared unintentional — it also evaluates the risk factor involved.</p><p>Defensive tackle Calais Campbell viewed the hit as an instance of a teammate simply trying to make a play, which he found more forgivable than a false start or other mental mistakes.</p><p>“This is a physical game and he catches that ball, it’s big time,” remarked Campbell.</p><h2><b>Costly penalty for the Dolphins</b></h2><p>Jordan Poyer’s penalty was one of eight the Dolphins committed in their loss on Sunday, with two occurring during the Bills’ game-winning drive.</p><p>“He’s trying to separate him (from the ball). I know he’s going for his chest. It’s just when you’re going for the chest with the shoulders, sometimes you make contact with the helmet. But it’s an aggressive penalty. We say all the time we don’t want to slow guys down from being aggressive. So those are the ones that are going to happen sometimes. You don’t like for it to happen, but that’s football,” the defensive tackle for the Dolphins continued.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dolphins-news-tua-tagovailoa-hit-mike-mcdaniel-best-take-despite-loss-bills">Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel</a> partly agreed with Campbell, acknowledging their aim to play aggressively. The team made another decisive move on ex-Pro Bowl cornerback Tre’Davious White.</p><h2><b>Bills part ways with serviceable corner amid plethora of cap space moves </b></h2><p>Buffalo <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1765490052728082685" rel="noopener">elected to release</a> Tre’Davious White from the roster on Wednesday, per Adam Schefter. The Bills will designate him as a post-June 1st cut, which will save them $10.2 million in salary cap space. White is free to sign with any team as early as the week of March 11th.</p><p>Like Jordan Poyer, White spent seven seasons with the Bills and made the Pro Bowl team in 2019-20 and 2020-21. He also earned a First-Team AP All-Pro Selection in 19-20. Unfortunately, he only appeared in 4 games in 2023 due to a bout with injuries.</p><p>The 29-year-old amassed 12 total tackles and one interception in limited action. It is sad to see him depart the team, but his contributions have helped elevate the Bills and will continue to do so.</p><p>Buffalo has made a plethora of cap-space-saving moves a week before the start of <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/perfect-nfl-trade-bills-must-complete-2024-offseason" rel="noopener">NFL Free Agency</a>. Buffalo informed veteran safety Jordan Poyer that he was <a href="https://twitter.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1765470664046067886" rel="noopener">released from the team</a> on Wednesday, per Ari Meirov (h/t Adam Schefter). The Bills will gain more cap space flexibility with Poyer’s release in addition to other decisive moves.</p><h2><b>Bills part ways with longtime safety before NFL Free Agency, make more personnel moves </b></h2><p>Jordan Poyer spent seven years with Buffalo, but in the end, the team decided to part ways with him. As a result, the Bills will open $5.7 million in salary cap space with the move, Meirov reports.</p><p>The 32-year-old safety earned All-Pro honors with Buffalo in 2021 and made the Pro Bowl in 2022. He followed his success up with a stout year of production in 2023. Poyer amassed 67 solo tackles, 34 assists, and four passes defended.</p><p>It is sad to see him go, but his departure will help the Bills financially as they prioritize other roster needs. Parting ways with Poyer was not the only move Buffalo made on Wednesday.</p><p>The Bills <a href="https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1765474125781643434" rel="noopener">released defensive back Siran Neal</a>, who was due $3 million in salary in 2024, per Ian Rapoport. Neal spent six seasons with the Buffalo and saw his best year in 2019 when he garnered 36 total tackles and a forced fumble. Now, he looks to be of service to a new team.</p><p>In addition, Buffalo plans to restructure <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1765472594239635777" rel="noopener">Rasul Douglas’ contract</a>, saving roughly $2.5 million more against their cap, per insight from Adam Schefter.</p><p>It has been a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bills-news-buffalo-agree-intriguing-trade-bears-2024-nfl-draft-pick" rel="noopener">wild week for Buffalo</a>. It’s become quite popular throughout the sports and entertainment world. Mainly because it seems to help a ton of people with trauma. With that in mind, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-patrick-mahomes-sounds-off-viral-tirade-vs-bills-after-apology" rel="noopener">Buffalo Bills’ star</a> safety, Jordan Poyer, reportedly used it to help himself overcome an alcohol addiction.</p><p>Poyer allegedly formed a bad drinking habit during his days in college. It continued <a href="https://theathletic.com/5133811/2023/12/14/buffalo-bills-jordan-poyer-ayahuasca/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=twhq&amp;source=twitterhq" rel="noopener">well into his NFL</a> career, per Dan Pompei of The Athletic. However, the alcoholism never affected his play on the field. But it did have a negative impact on his marriage.</p><p>By the time he signed with the Bills, Jordan Poyer’s drinking was getting out of hand. “He would down a six-pack of IPAs in 20 to 30 minutes for a quick buzz. Blacking out was a regular occurrence. His behavior tested his marriage, but there was a draw between him and [his wife] Rachel like a north pole to south.”</p><p>The Bills’ safety developed such a bad drinking habit that his wife would remove alcohol from the house. But somehow he’d find some and she would find Poyer hiding in weird spots just to drink alcohol. It got especially bad after Buffalo lost to the Houston Texans in the 2019 playoffs.</p><p>“‘I’d find him drinking in crazy places, like under the bathroom cabinets, hidden like a child,’ Rachel says.”</p><p>The Bills’ star noticed his alcoholism was straining his marriage. So, Jordan Poyer went to Alcoholics Anonymous. Eventually, Poyer turned to ayahuasca as a way to help him with his sobriety journey. “He discovered Resonance, a retreat center in Costa Rica on a hilltop overlooking the Pacific coast and the cloud forest of Monteverde.”</p><p>Jordan Poyer explained his experience with ayahuasca. At the very least, it sounds incredibly interesting.</p><blockquote>“At first what it felt like was my soul left my body for a good two minutes. People try to control it, but you can’t. It took me about five or 10 minutes to figure it out. The ego has to die so the medicine can work. In order to let go and let the medicine do what it’s supposed to do, we have to just breathe.”</blockquote><p>The Bills’ star claims he saw “the highest version of himself.” That higher power essentially lectured him about what’s going on with his life. Everything that Jordan Poyer was stressed about, or just not fully appreciative of, was discussed in his vision.</p><blockquote>“He was basically saying, ‘Jordan, look at your life, bro — what are you mad at?’ It was what I needed to hear because I wasn’t appreciating anything — not my wife, my daughter, my family, my house. It was all about me and what I wanted.”</blockquote><p>That experience set Poyer back on the right path. He no longer drinks alcohol and the ayahuasca gave Jordan Poyer better perspective on his life. As a result, his marriage on point. Additionally, he’s proving to be a critical leader for this Bills team.</p><p>Many are still unsure about ayahuasca. It can certainly be controversial as well, considering it is technically a form of a psychedelic drug. But now we have Aaron Rodgers, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bills-biggest-heroes-in-season-saving-week-14-win-over-chiefs" rel="noopener">Jordan Poyer, and</a> a long list of people claiming ayahuasca has helped them spiritually, mentally, and physically. So, maybe there’s something to it.</p><p>At the very least, it’s amazing how Poyer turned things around for the better.
