New head coach Aaron Glenn is planning to instill a significant dose of toughness that may have been missing in the past. However, that characteristic alone won’t be enough to turn around a team that finished 5-12 last year. Running back Breece Hall believes the Jets have changed much of their offensive outlook due to the presence of quarterback Justin Fields.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/editorials/1-perfect-new-york-jets-move-fill-out-roster-2025-training-camp">The Jets</a> are Fields’ third NFL team. He started his career with the Chicago Bears and moved on to the Pittsburgh Steelers last year. While he was unable to maintain consistent production with either team, Fields displayed upper-echelon athleticism that should help the Jets make big plays on a much more consistent basis than they have in the past.</p><p>Hall explained that Fields has the ability to get away from the first wave of the rush, and that gives running backs and receivers in the pass pattern a chance to beat the defense and create big plays. It also gives Fields an opportunity to run for big plays.</p><p>Hall was a guest of Marshawn Lynch on the “Get Got” podcast and described what Fields can do with his <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkkMb_HAY2w&amp;t=208s">athleticism and speed</a>.</p><p>“It’s been cool. He brings another sense of calm to the team and you know with having a running quarterback you know we’re always looking to make big plays when he’s trying to extend the play when we’re passing.</p><p>“So it’s been cool, it takes another person out of the box and makes the defense have to respect the run a little more and takes some of the stress off of me. So it creates an extra run lane, makes it harder for the defense, make them play a step slower. However, his 4.2 yards per carry average is not overly impressive and he could add half a yard to more to that figure if defenses are worried about Fields’ ability to make big plays.</p><p>Hall has also shown that can be a sold receiving weapon after catching 57-483-3 in 2024.</p><p>Fields has completed 684 of 1,119 passes in his four years in the NFL for 7,780 yards with 45 touchdowns and 31 interceptions. With the market drying up, Rodgers was the only viable option that made sense for where they are, and now he has the chance to help them continue to make the playoffs, and hopefully make a deep run.</p><p>Rodgers noted that head coach <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/steelers-news-aaron-rodgers-coolest-mike-tomlin-factor">Mike Tomlin was a big reason</a> why he decided to join the Steelers.</p><p>“A big attraction was Mike Tomlin. The way the conversations went between him and I were some of the coolest conversations I’ve had in the game. Definitely with a head coach,” said Rodgers, per Jonathan Jones of CBS on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>The Steelers’ offense will look a bit different than it has in seasons past, as Najee Harris went to the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency, and George Pickens was traded to the Dallas Cowboys. And rumors are floating that some of <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-rumors-new-york-predicted-late-summer-spending-spree">his teammates could become richer</a> this summer. But a “great” take by Fields will have Bears, Steelers fans raising their eyebrows.</p><p>Fields said he believes he has <a href="https://apnews.com/article/jets-justin-fields-593ea4144096fcc05ebed89344999cb4" rel="noopener">a high ceiling</a>, according to apnews.com.</p><p>“I think I can be great, you know?” Fields said. “That’s been the goal for me my whole life, my whole career. Like I’ve said, I think the sky’s the limit for this team, for this offense. But we do have a long way to go.”</p><p>This would come as quite a shock to Bears fans. They witnessed Fields produce a record of 10-28 in three ugly seasons with the team. Fields went 4-2 with the Steelers in 2024, but couldn’t hold off aging Russell Wilson for the starting gig.</p><h2><b>Jets QB Justin Fields has plenty to prove</b></h2><p>Fields <a href="https://www.newyorkjets.com/news/what-the-jets-saying-about-justin-fields-05-28-2025" rel="noopener">got good reviews</a> from teammate Garrett Wilson, according to newyorkjets.com. That’s important because Fields will likely need to lean on Wilson this year.</p><p>“He’s got a different way about him,” Wilson said. “He’s more quiet when it comes to getting to know people. It’s not going to be that first day, but when it does click, it’s like, man, this dude’s super cool.</p><p>“Very commanding in the huddle like, ‘Hey, we’re messing up the turbo, we’re messing up this, so let’s get on that.’ But you get it from a standpoint of you’re not degrading anybody, not going (to) put it in a certain way. It’s just another dude kickin’ it with you, and that’s the coolest thing about Justin.”</p><p>Left guard John Simpson also stood up for Fields.</p><p>“It’s been great, man,” Simpson said. “Good dude. He’s quiet, but he’s one of those guys (who is) going to speak with his play. I’m excited to see him play, for sure.”</p><p>Meanwhile, Fields will be on the proving grounds like Jets’ first-year head coach Aaron Glenn. It’s an interesting combination of a defensive coach with a quarterback who hasn’t been able to prove himself. It’s difficult to see Glenn as a guy who could help a quarterback find a path from struggling to stardom. New York made a great move by <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-hiring-aaron-glenn-head-coach">hiring Aaron Glenn as the next head coach of the Jets</a>. Now former Steelers QB Justin Fields is set up to be the next starting quarterback of the Jets. One ESPN reporter believes the Jets could model Fields’ game after Jalen Hurts in one important way.</p><p>ESPN’s Rich Cimini noted that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/eagles-news-response-packers-tush-push-ban-proposal-failing">New York was one of 10 teams to support the Tush Push</a> at last week’s league meeting in Minneapolis.</p><p>Cimini used this as evidence that the Jets <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45273369/new-york-jets-nfl-aaron-glenn-mcdonald-iv-notebook" rel="noopener">might run the Tush Push themselves</a> in 2025 because they have Justin Fields at quarterback.</p><p>“It will be interesting to see if the Jets incorporate it into their playbook. Fields, one of the league’s most dangerous running quarterbacks, has attempted 12 push sneaks in his career, converting 11 for first downs, per ESPN Research,” Cimini wrote. “Since 2021, only two quarterbacks have tried it more than Fields: Jalen Hurts (86-for-100) and Josh Allen (50-for-55).”</p><p>The strengths of the Jets personnel on offense do match the Eagles pretty cleanly. As a result, it would not be surprising to see Glenn deploy an offense that resembles Philadelphia’s in 2025.</p><p>Ultimately, the Jets may lean heavily into quarterback runs if they see a future with Justin Fields at quarterback.</p><h2><b>Louis Riddick explains why Jets will “seriously” improve under Aaron Glenn</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Aaron-Glenn-as-Jets-HC.jpg"><figcaption>Kevin R. Wexler-NorthJersey.com / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Tush Push or not, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-louis-riddick-reveals-aaron-glenn-should-seriously-improve-new-york">Jets should be a lot better under head coach Aaron Glenn</a>.</p><p>ESPN’s Louis Riddick is a big believer in this idea. He heaped praise on Glenn in a recent interview, arguing that Glenn’s view of football is a perfect match for New York’s personnel.</p><p>“This team should be seriously, seriously improved, and their identity should be staring you right in the face. It should be absolutely like a no-brainer here. And if Tanner Engstrom was to come out there and go, ‘Hey, look, you know what we’re going to do? We’re going to go three wides and we’re going to spread it out and put you in the gun and make you read the field,’ fire him, fire him,” Riddick declared.</p><p>Riddick clearly thinks that any deviation from what worked in Detroit would be a mistake by New York’s coaching staff.</p><p>“This is, this is to me, one of the most easily constructed offenses in terms of philosophical approach of any team in the NFL,” Riddick concluded. “And this should be, hey, they know where their strengths are. We’ll see what happens.”</p><p>It will be fascinating to see how much the Jets improve during their first season under Glenn’s leadership.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He is a longtime podcaster and even longer suffering NY Jets fan.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">New York Jets</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The New York Jets signed quarterback <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-justin-fields-40-million-contract-free-agency">Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract</a> this offseason as the team moved on from the previous coaching regime as well as its previous signal caller, Aaron Rodgers.</p><p>While the Jets have undergone a number of changes over the offseason, New York held onto QB2 Tyrod Taylor. The team is hopeful he can operate both as a functional backup and <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/jets-qb-tyrod-taylor-i-m-here-to-support-starter-justin-fields" rel="noopener">as a mentor</a> to the younger Fields, who’s entering his fifth season in the NFL with his third team.</p><p>“We’ve been good friends throughout his time in the league… So I’m here to support and help the team win in any form or fashion, whether it’s me on the field or whether it’s me being able to shed some light and experience and coach guys through,” Taylor said of his role with the Jets, per Kevin Patra of NFL.com.</p><p>“Any knowledge or experience that I could offer to the younger guys that helps the team win, at the end of the day, is what I’m here to do. I’m looking forward to doing that,” Taylor added.</p><h2><b>Justin Fields has a clear path to start for the Jets</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Justin-Fields.jpg"><figcaption>Katie Stratman-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-new-york-brings-in-new-aaron-rodgers-backup-tyrod-taylor-deal">Jets signed Taylor</a> to a two-year, $12 million contract in free agency last offseason. The veteran passer was brought in to back up Rodgers after the future Hall of Famer missed the entire 2023 season with an Achilles tear and New York was forced to turn right back to Zach Wilson.</p><p>Taylor made only two appearances and didn’t start a game in his first season with New York. He hasn’t been a regular starter in the NFL since his final season with the Buffalo Bills in 2017.</p><p>Although the Jets inked Fields to a two-year contract, he’s only owed $30 million in guaranteed money. Because of the relatively low financial commitment for a starting quarterback, many observers felt the team would take a shot on a passer in the NFL draft. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/nfl-rumors-jets-steelers-record-breaking-syracuse-qb">Jets were linked to Kyle McCord</a> out of Syracuse as well as Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart.</p><p>However, the draft came and went and the Jets failed to add to their quarterback room. The team has <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-gm-justin-fields-declaration-qb-room-situation">maintained its commitment to Fields</a> for this season and it seems as if Aaron Glenn and company intend to see what they have in the former Ohio State standout.</p><p>Considering New York’s desire to give Fields every opportunity to succeed as the team’s quarterback, Taylor is the ideal backup. Entering his age-36 season, no one sees him as the QB of the future. He can, however, still deliver if called upon. And he has plenty of NFL wisdom to impart on a young passer.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
