The 49ers are desperate for wide receiver help amid their issues, and bringing Bourne in is a massive help.</p><p>Bourne’s signing coincided with the 49ers’ releasing Robbie Chosen <a href="https://x.com/MarkNFT/status/1965509499579760878" rel="noopener">from the practice squad</a>, which allowed everything to work. Jauan Jennings’ injury started this domino effect after he hurt his left shoulder this past Sunday in Seattle. Bourne’s signing also reunites him with where he began his NFL career in 2017. The decision to release Robbie Chosen made the most sense in making room for him.</p><p>NFL Network reporter and insider Tom Pelissero was among the first to report the news, posting to X: “The #49ers released WR Robbie Chosen off the practice squad.”</p><p>The move to release Chosen comes one month after the 49ers signed him. Chosen, formerly Robby Anderson, started his NFL career in 2016 after going undrafted in the NFL Draft. He was a solid receiver at Temple, and in the NFL, he has since bounced around from the Jets, the Panthers, the Cardinals, the Dolphins twice, and the 49ers twice.</p><p>In his career, Chosen has played 122 games, caught 380 passes, totaled 5,087 yards, and caught 30 touchdowns. However, it seems like his job is at a crossroads in the NFL. He has shown flashes, but his productivity has taken a nosedive. When you look at that fact, the best he could probably do at this point in his career is a spot on a practice squad around the NFL.</p><p>The 49ers’ early-season headaches at wide receiver involve Brandon Aiyuk’s knee injury, Jordan Watkins’s ankle sprain, and Demarcus Robinson’s suspension. It is also worth noting that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-news-george-kittle-out-multiple-weeks-injury-brock-purdy-question" rel="noopener">tight end George Kittle injured his hamstring in Week 1</a> and will be out multiple weeks.</p><p>Ricky Pearsall is the healthiest receiver on the team and desperately needs help around him for the 49ers’ passing game to be successful. However, the win may have come at a significant cost. Wide receiver <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-news-jauan-jennings-leaves-seahawks-game-with-shoulder-injury">Jauan Jennings left early with a shoulder injury</a> and will undergo an MRI on Monday. Considering the vast amount of injuries the 49ers have already sustained at the wideout position, the team was compelled to make a move.</p><p>Monday morning, it was revealed that San Francisco is reuniting with Kendrick Bourne, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Bourne and the 49ers have agreed to <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1965092303036457444" rel="noopener">a one-year, $5 million contract</a>.</p><p>Bourne previously signed as an undrafted free agent with the San Francisco 49ers in 2017 after playing college ball at Eastern Washington. He spent the first four years of his career in the Bay Area, amassing 137 catches for 1,769 yards and 11 touchdowns. The veteran then signed with the New England Patriots.</p><p>His first year in New England was the best of his career. He caught 55 passes for 800 yards and five touchdowns. But over the last three seasons, he had been relegated further down the team’s depth chart.</p><p>Bourne won’t have to worry about being buried on the 49ers’ depth chart, though.</p><p>Not only did the 49ers potentially lose Jennings for at least some time, but All-Pro tight end <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-news-george-kittle-ruled-out-for-rest-seahawks-game-hamstring-injury">George Kittle also left Sunday’s win with a hamstring injury</a>. Brandon Aiyuk is still on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list and will be out until at least Week 7. That leaves 2024 first-round pick Ricky Pearsall as the only healthy, established receiver.</p><p>Pearsall led the team in receiving with 108 receiving yards on four catches.</p><p>Running back <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-rumors-is-san-francisco-concerned-christian-mccaffreys-injury">Christian McCaffrey put the calf injury</a> talk behind him, and looked like his old self, at least out of the backfield. He caught a team-high nine passes for 73 yards, to go with 69 yards rushing.</p><p>The 49ers are still waiting to learn the results of Jennings’ MRI. The decision came as part of New England’s final roster cuts, a process complicated by an overcrowded receiver room that featured 11 players during training camp. While Stefon Diggs, DeMario Douglas, and rookie Kyle Williams were seen as roster locks, Bourne’s exit was one of the most surprising moves under head coach Mike Vrabel’s new regime.</p><p>His release immediately drew league-wide interest. Reports confirmed that both San Francisco and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/washington-commanders/commanders-news-kendrick-bournes-visit-happening-no-49ers-deal-yet">Washington arranged meetings with Bourne</a> and even had contracts prepared.</p><p>The 49ers, where Bourne began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent in 2017, appeared to be a logical fit given their receiver injuries. Still, despite the urgency, Bourne chose not to finalize a deal.</p><p>The wideout wants to weigh his long-term fit before committing to either franchise, keeping the door open for other suitors.</p><p>Kendrick Bourne enters his ninth NFL season with 292 career receptions, 3,714 yards, and 22 touchdowns. His peak came in 2021 with New England, when he posted 55 catches for 800 yards and five touchdowns.</p><p>However, his productivity dipped after suffering a torn ACL in Week 8 of the 2023 season against Miami. That injury ended a streak of five consecutive seasons with at least 15 appearances.</p><p>In 2024, he returned to action after beginning the year on the PUP list, but he never regained his prior role in the Patriots’ offense.</p><p>Last season, Bourne recorded just 28 receptions for 305 yards and one touchdown, his lowest output since his rookie year. Before the ACL injury, Bourne had built a reputation as one of the league’s more durable receivers, with at least 30 receptions in five different seasons, including 42 for 487 yards in 2018 when he led the 49ers’ receivers.</p><p>For now, Bourne’s decision to delay signing leaves both Washington and San Francisco moving forward without him in Week 1.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Washington was the best story in the NFL during the 2024 season. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/washington-commanders/commanders-news-fans-erupt-after-jayden-daniels-nfl-rookie-of-the-year-win">Jayden Daniels won Offensive Rookie of the Year</a> and the Commanders almost made the Super Bowl. Now the Commanders are looking to add some last-minute firepower on offense days before the regular season.</p><p>The Commanders are <a href="https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1962875707387703490" rel="noopener">hosting free agent wide receiver</a> Kendrick Bourne for a visit on Tuesday, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.</p><p>Bourne will travel to Washington for his visit after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-news-kendrick-bourne-visiting-san-francisco-commanders-lurking">already meeting with the 49ers on Monday</a>.</p><p>According to Rapoport, there is already a framework for a potential contract in place with both teams. As such, news could break very quickly about Bourne signing with either team.</p><p>The fact that Bourne left San Francisco without a deal suggests that Washington is still in the running to sign Bourne.</p><p>Bourne spent the preseason with the New England Patriots. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/3-best-kendrick-bourne-destinations-patriots-release">He did not make the team’s 53-man roster</a> and was released.</p><p>Bourne has been a productive receiver for almost his entire career.</p><p>In 2024, Bourne hauled in 28 receptions for 305 yards and one touchdown for the Patriots. The 30-year-old receiver has seen better days, but he is still a competent NFL receiver.</p><p>If Bourne wants to join the Commanders, he could make that decision as early as Tuesday’s visit.</p><h2><b>How would the addition of Kendrick Bourne change the Commanders offense?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Kendrick-Bourne.jpg"><figcaption>Brian Fluharty-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Bourne is a fine player. But could he really make a difference on the Commanders?</p><p>There is not a clear path for Bourne to become a starter in Washington. But he could certainly help the team beef up their wide receiver depth.</p><p>Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel, and Noah Brown are slated to start for the Commanders at receiver. Their only backups on the active roster are Luke McCaffrey and Jaylin Lane.</p><p>After examining Washington’s depth chart, it is clear that they could use veteran depth at receiver. And Bourne would be the perfect player to provide that depth.</p><p>If the Commanders sign Bourne, it will take him some time to adjust to a new offensive scheme. The 49ers have made several big moves this offseason, including <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-news-brock-purdy-san-francisco-5-year-265-million-contract-extension">signing quarterback Brock Purdy</a> to a new lucrative contract, and are hoping that 2025 is the year they will be able to reassume their position atop the NFC race after a down 2024 season.</p><p>One of the <a href="https://x.com/Schultz_Report/status/1962532347481301372" rel="noopener">hottest names on the market</a> in the last few days has been former New England Patriots wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, whose request for a release from the organization has been granted.</p><p>Recently, NFL insider Jordan Schultz provided an update on Bourne’s search for a new home that might have San Francisco fans excited.</p><p>“Sources: The #49ers are hosting former #Patriots WR Kendrick Bourne for a visit today,” reported Schultz on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Schultz also noted that “My understanding is that if a deal is not reached with San Francisco, Bourne’s also scheduled to visit the #Commanders tomorrow.”</p><p>At the age of 30, Bourne may no longer be the same player he was in the prime years of his career, but he is still a solid veteran who is capable of getting open and making plays happen downfield, which is something the 49ers didn’t have a whole lot of last year.</p><h2><b>Can the 49ers bounce back?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/San-Francisco-49ers-head-coach-Kyle-Shanahan_e22ec7.jpg"><figcaption>D. On Wednesday, shortly after the Patriots finalized their official 53-man roster for the 2025 season, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-england-patriots/patriots-news-kendrick-bourne-granted-release-failed-trade-efforts">Bourne was released by New England</a> and is a free agent.</p><p>The Patriots had been trying to find a trade partner for Bourne during this preseason, but they failed to do so and were forced to let him go for nothing. The Minnesota Vikings were one team that was linked to Bourne, but they ended up <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/minnesota-vikings/adam-thielen-trade-grades-for-vikings-panthers">reuniting with veteran wideout Adam Thielen instead</a>.</p><p>While the Patriots have no desire to keep Bourne around and the Vikings opted to go in a different direction, there will still be some teams in the market for a veteran wideout who has a lot of talent and has flashed that at times during his career. With Week 1 on the horizon and everyone trying to maximize their weaponry on offense, it won’t be long before Bourne gets scooped up.</p><p>The 30-year old spent the first four seasons of his career with the San Francisco 49ers before playing with the Patriots for the last four years. He has never been a true star, but he has always been a quality piece of a wide receiver room. In those eight seasons, Bourne has 292 catches for 3,714 yards and 22 touchdowns. He will likely be a cheap option on the open market that teams will be going after.</p><p>Here are three landing spots that make sense for Bourne now that he is officially a free agent.</p><h2><b>Las Vegas Raiders</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Raiders-2.jpg"><figcaption>Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Raiders have undergone a total makeover on offense this offseason after a dreadful 2024 season that involved a whole lot of Aidan O’Connell and not a whole lot of successful runs. Now, Las Vegas has <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/las-vegas-raiders/raiders-news-geno-smiths-message-haters-sleeping-on-las-vegas">brought in Geno Smith to fix the passing game</a> centered around Brock Bowers and drafted Ashton Jeanty in the top 10 to try and get some pop on the ground.</p><p>While Bowers will be the focal point for the Raiders through the air, he still needs some wideouts on the perimeter to open up the middle of the field for him so he can go to work. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/las-vegas-raiders/raiders-news-jakobi-meyers-requesting-trade-las-vegas">Jakobi Meyers has requested a trade</a>, but for now he is still the best wideout on the roster for Pete Carroll and company.</p><p>The Raiders also made a move to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/las-vegas-raiders/raiders-news-amari-cooper-contract-instagram">bring in veteran Amari Cooper on a one-year deal</a> to help solidify that room, but there still isn’t much depth there. Tre Tucker should get some snaps and rookie fourth-round pick Dont’e Thornton Jr. has had a great camp, but another body would not hurt in the slightest.</p><p>Adding a veteran like Bourne who can move around the formation and eat some snaps and targets for this Raiders squad could help open things up for Bowers to take a majority of the targets. That is a signing that the Raiders should seriously consider making.</p><h2><b>San Francisco 49ers</b></h2><p>A reunion with the San Francisco 49ers could also be in the cards for Bourne as Kyle Shanahan looks to get his offense back to the top of the NFL and get the 49ers back to the top of the NFC. However, the group of weapons on the outside around Brock Purdy has deteriorated, and Bourne could be just what San Francisco needs to get back to that point.</p><p>This will be the first season without Deebo Samuel in San Francisco during this era after the team traded the gadget player to the Washington Commanders this offseason, so that is one key body that needs to be replaced. On top of that, Brandon Aiyuk isn’t going to be ready for Week 1 while he continues to recover from his torn ACL, and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-news-jauan-jennings-requested-trade-john-lynch-catch">Jauan Jennings still isn’t practicing</a> as he works his way through both a calf injury and a contract dispute.</p><p>Jennings is still expected to be on the field in Week 1, but there is still a big-time need for depth on this roster. Demarcus Robinson was brought in this offseason, but he is suspended for the first three games of the season. On Wednesday, the 49ers signed Marquez Valdez-Scantling, and he and Ricky Pearsall should see immediate reps.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-news-skyy-moore-drops-truth-bomb-after-trade-to-san-francisco">San Francisco also traded for Skyy Moore</a> during the preseason, but he is far from reliable in just about every aspect of the position. Bourne would be a big upgrade in that department and is someone that 49ers should look at bringing back after he spent the first four years of his career in the Bay Area.</p><h2><b>New York Jets</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Jets-2.jpg"><figcaption>Mark Smith-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The New York Jets are another team that has had a bit of a makeover on offense, shifting to a more run-first approach with a new identity of physicality. The LSU star might have a triple-crown season with the Bengals.</p><p>As a result, it’s made Higgins look defective. The Chase and Joe Burrow connection has been on another level. However, a change of scenery could be huge for the former Clemson football standout.</p><h2><b>Tee Higgins would give the Patriots and Kendrick Bourne more WR depth</b></h2><p>The Patriots need any wide receiver help they can afford for their franchise quarterback, Drake Maye. For instance, New England has the fewest receiving yards in the league by a long shot. While Maye has shown plenty of promise, having reliable targets is a crucial element to a successful offense.</p><p>Adding Higgins would be the most talented receiver the Patriots have had in years. After all, he’s had two 1,000+ yard seasons as a second option. Having him as a No. 1 option could increase those numbers. Plus, he would go from one gunslinging quarterback to another.</p><p>Although the Patriots are rebuilding, and the Bengals are a playoff team, the opportunity could be too nice to pass up. Plus, it’ll put the world on notice that Higgins could be a No. 1 option. Plus, they have some of the most cap space in the entire league. In 2025, they’re <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-england-patriots/cap/_/year/2025/sort/cap_total" rel="noopener">projected to have over $130 million</a> in spendable money. Tight end Hunter Henry leads New England in receptions right now, much in part due to Bourne’s absence. The pass-catcher suffered a season-ending ACL injury in Week 8 of last season and had put up some impressive numbers to that point. Bourne reeled in 37 catches for 406 yards and four touchdowns and was on pace to surpass the 1,000-yard mark.</p><p>Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said earlier this week that Bourne is ready to return, via the team’s website:</p><p>“Yeah, he’s about ready to go,” Mayo told The Greg Hill Show on Monday morning. “I thought it was good to bring him on the trip just to get back in the routine and the process of being on an away trip.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/patriots-news-new-england-re-signs-kendrick-bourne-major-move-mac-jones-release">Bourne was a free agent this past offseason but decided to re-sign with New England</a>, earning a three-year extension worth $19.5 million. They rank dead last in the NFL in passing yards with only 112.2 per contest and 31st in points with a mere 13 per outing. In an offseason that has seen the storied franchise part from their all-time great head coach, it’s easy to feel like anything is possible for the Patriots. Kendrick Bourne took a shot at manifesting a positive change for the Patriots earlier today, as he seemed to be trying to recruit Brandon Aiyuk.</p><p>The Patriots’ wide receiver posted on social media earlier today, responding to a fan post suggesting that New England should trade for 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.</p><p>“Let’s get em! You getting all the targets u want!” Bourne said, retweeting the original fan post that features an <a href="https://twitter.com/BournePoly11/status/1779535490816868804" rel="noopener">image of Bourne and Aiyuk</a> from their days together with the 49ers.</p><p>The fan post states that Brandon Aiyuk has officially requested a trade. However, this was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/49ers-news-brandon-aiyuk-agent-shoots-down-rumors-of-trade-request-from-49ers-amid-contract-dilemma">refuted by Aiyuk’s agent</a> Ryan Williams of Athletes First.</p><p>Ari Meirov of the 33rd Team <a href="https://twitter.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1779549233550344421" rel="noopener">posted on social media</a> that it is possible that Aiyuk could still get traded. Despite the fact that Aiyuk’s agent had to set the record straight that his client has not officially requested a trade, that does not eliminate the possibility that a trade could occur at some time in the future.</p><p>“Aiyuk has implied that he deserves to be paid as a top wide receiver and has hinted he’s getting frustrated,” Meirov said.</p><p>“There’s a gap they’d have to bridge for this all to get resolved, but as of today, Aiyuk has not told the 49ers he wants out. New England’s offensive has returned to reality over the past several Brady-less seasons. Under new head coach Jerod Mayo, fans are hopeful that this issue will be thoroughly addressed.</p><p>Mayo and his regime have already taken some swings at adding playmakers in his first free agency. The team inked versatile running back Antonio Gibson and wide receiver K.J. Osborn to contracts via free agency. The Patriots also extended tight end Hunter Henry to keep some stability at that position.</p><p>New England has admirable depth at running back, wide receiver, and tight end, but they lack a definitive number one option at any position as well. It’s easy to understand why Bourne might want to add someone like Aiyuk to the team.</p><p>The Patriots have the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and hold all of their standard picks through the first six rounds. Quarterback is widely assumed to be the position that New England will address with their first-round pick, be it Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, or JJ McCarthy.</p><p>Thankfully, the 2024 NFL draft class is deep and talented at wide receiver, so the Patriots will have multiple opportunities on days two and three to add another exciting playmaker to their offense.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Kendrick Bourne seems to be happy with any of the quarterback options who might be available when it’s <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sleeper-prospects-patriots-must-target-2024-nfl-draft">time for the Patriots</a> to make their pick.</p><p>Bourne has <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElccNTQeqtA&amp;t=2457s">evaluated the top quarterback prospects</a> in the draft, he shared on the Money Down podcast. With Caleb Williams almost certainly to be drafted No. 1 by the Chicago Bears, two of Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy will be on the board when the Patriots are on the clock as the Washington Commanders seem likely to draft a quarterback as well.</p><p>Bourne likes what he’s seen and heard about all three quarterback prospects in the weeks leading up to the draft.</p><p>“I’ve been big [on] Jayden, but after watching Drake — I haven’t really watched J.J. — they’ve been giving him the Josh Allen comparison,” Bourne said. “He is 6-foot-4, 225. He got that build. He got that structure to handle — I thought he was like 6-foot-2, maybe 200 [pounds]. Nah, they say he 6-foot-4, 225, like big dog.”</p><p>“He got something to him. I’m in between, bro,” Bourne continued. “I’m really in between. J.J., too. He got that winning mentality. He’s been through the hard work. [Jim] Harbaugh, Michigan, he just got that mentality. I’m excited, bro, and just accepting whoever comes in, building that relationship immediately.”</p><p>For much of the draft process, Maye and Daniels were seen as the next-best quarterback prospects after Williams. Many mock drafts have had the two quarterbacks be selected with a top-three pick as well.</p><p>However, McCarthy’s made a recent surge up draft boards. The Michigan quarterback has seemed to solidify himself as a top-10 pick and possibly a top-five pick as there have been rumors the Minnesota Vikings could trade up to draft him.</p><p>The Patriots have also been linked to McCarthy. Last season, the wideout appeared in eight games, managing 406 yards and four scores in 37 receptions while being targeted 55 times. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl-rumors-patriots-kendrick-bourne-contract-negotiations-update-after-mac-jones-trade" rel="noopener">Bourne’s promising 2023</a> was cut short when he suffered a torn ACL during the Patriots’ Week 8 game against the Miami Dolphins.</p><p>Despite seeing action for just half the season, Bourne’s aforementioned 406 receiving yards was the third-highest among the team at the conclusion of the Patriots’ 2023 campaign.</p><p>It was a campaign filled with frustration and heartbreak. New England managed just four wins the entire season. They finished dead last in the entire AFC and their quiet year could be mainly attributed to a sub-par offense.</p><p>With Mac Jones gone, the Patriots are heavily expected to select a new quarterback with the number three overall pick in their hands. In addition, the receivers and the offensive line could use some tweaking in free agency. While Kendrick Bourne has performed well when called upon, New England badly needs more pass-catching depth. A high-caliber wideout like Calvin Ridley would definitely be a quality signing, and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/patriots-news-matthew-judon-recruiting-pitches-calvin-ridley-josh-jacobs-free-agency" rel="noopener">even Matthew Judon himself</a> has been recruiting the upcoming free agent.</p><p>As for the O-line, Mike Owenu and Trent Brown are set to become free agents, so QB protection needs to be addressed as well this offseason. Another key area for the team to focus on is wide receiver and rumors suggest the team is still trying to keep Kendrick Bourne on the roster.</p><p>Bourne has been in contract negotiations with New England for several weeks now but <a href="https://twitter.com/JosinaAnderson/status/1766875426943603168" rel="noopener">reports suggest there’s still</a> “a notable gap,” according to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports. With free agency just days away this is a situation to monitor for the Patriots.</p><p>“The Patriots and WR Kendrick Bourne are still working to find middle ground on compensation on a deal, as there’s still a notable gap, per sources. We’ll see if both sides can come to terms before the new league year–especially as the team is set to target the position in free agency.”</p><p>Bourne has served more as a rotational piece throughout his career. He’s a solid pass option who steps up big when his number is called. So, it makes sense why <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/jaguars-news-mac-jones-defiant-initial-response-to-stunning-trade-from-patriots" rel="noopener">the Patriots would</a> like to keep him on the roster. Even if the front office plans to acquire more wide receivers through free agency or the NFL Draft.</p><p>Last season, Kendrick Bourne only played eight games and started in five. He finished the 2023 campaign with 37 receptions, 406 yards, and four touchdowns. His veteran presence would be nice to have around a rookie quarterback if that’s what the Patriots plan to do with the third overall pick.</p><p>NFL free agency officially opens on March 13. So, the Patriots still have some time to figure out Kendrick Bourne’s contract situation.
