While there were plenty of questions to answer this offseason, the franchise made a big decision by giving wide receiver Chris Godwin a new contract. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/buccaneers-news-baker-mayfield-admission-chris-godwin-brutal-injury">Godwin suffered a season-ending ankle injury</a> halfway through the 2024 campaign, but the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/buccaneers-news-chris-godwin-leaves-20-million-table-66-million-contract">Buccaneers still gave him a three-year, $66 million deal</a> to keep him in Tampa Bay.</p><p>So, the Buccaneers duo of Godwin and Mike Evans remains intact, giving Baker Mayfield ample weapons on the offense.</p><p>However, there is a chance Godwin <a href="https://x.com/JoeBucsFan/status/1907041177863344321" rel="noopener">might not be available</a> when the season begins, as JoeBucsFan mentioned on X.</p><p>‘Not sure yet, says Todd Bowles, if Chris Godwin will be available Week 1. He hopes he will be. Bowles says cornerback Bryce Hall (same dislocated ankle injury) is running full speed, which is encouraging all around.’</p><p>Todd Bowles admits he “hopes” Godwin will be ready for the opener, although there is no clear indication for the time being.</p><p>Back on March 23, General Manager Jason Licht <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/buccaneers-news-buccaneers-gm-drops-encouraging-chris-godwin-injury-update">had an optimistic update on Godwin</a>, saying he would “never bet against Chris.”</p><p>“I’m feeling very good about it,” Licht said. “He’s hitting all of his milestones. He’s hitting all of his markers. He’s where he’s supposed to be. We’re not going to try to set any records for the fastest rehab because we want to make sure everything’s done right and just get him out there for the regular season. I would never bet against Chris.”</p><p>Godwin played in just seven games before suffering the injury, although he had 50 catches for 576 yards and five scores up until that point.</p><p>The 2025 NFL schedule has not yet been released, so it remains unclear who – and when – the Buccaneers will play to begin the year. He studied journalism and communication at UConn.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Green Bay Packers</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The NFL Draft is under a month away, and although the Green Bay Packers had a strong 2024 season, they are looking to take that next step and make a deep playoff run, and NFL.com draft analyst Chad Reuter said that they <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/2025-nfl-draft-six-win-win-first-round-trades-teams-should-make" rel="noopener">should trade up</a> with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to target a cornerback, wide receiver or edge rusher.</p><p>“Although the Packers made the playoffs with an 11-6 record last season, they finished third in the NFC North and were one-and-done in postseason play,” Chad Reuter of NFL.com said. “Shoring up a couple of roster spots through the draft could help them return to the top of the division and clinch them their first home playoff game since 2021. To secure one of this year’s top CBs (Jahdae Barron), WRs (Emeka Egbuka, Matthew Golden) or edge defenders (Donovan Ezeiruaku, Mike Green, Shemar Stewart, Mykel Williams) — whomever from their wish list is still available at No. 19 overall – the Pack put in a call to their former NFC Central rival to climb up a few runs on the first-round ladder.”</p><p>In the proposed deal, the Packers would move from No. 23 to No. 19 in the first round while giving up a third-round pick (No. 87 overall) and getting a fifth-round pick (No. 157 overall) in return. Reuter mentioned cornerback Jahdae Barron, wide receivers Emeka Egbuka and Matthew Golden, and edge defenders Donovan Ezeiruaku, Mike Green, Shemar Stewart and Mykel Williams.</p><p>It is an interesting suggestion, but it would seem likely that at least one of those players would drop to No. 23. If the Packers have all of those players rated similarly, it could be smart to hold off on trading up with the Buccaneers. The Packers also have not shown to be an organization that is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/nfl-rumors-packers-chargers-looking-hard-receiver-first-round">aggressive when it comes to drafting wide receivers</a> in the first round, so trading up for one would be a deviation from their previous actions. It seems that the Patriots were also at the center of negotiations for another player who they did not end up acquiring.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/nfl-rumors-why-buccaneers-wont-use-franchise-tag-chris-godwin">Buccaneers entered NFL free agency determined to retain Chris Godwin</a>. Throughout the process, Tampa Bay <a href="https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/bucs-gm-jason-licht-chris-godwin-turned-down-a-team-that-was-writing-him-blank-checks" rel="noopener">fended off one unnamed team</a> who were making aggressive moves to try and land Chris Godwin in free agency.</p><p>“There were several teams that inquired but there was one that kept writing him blank checks,” Licht said. “We got to a point of what we could do in order to keep everything together and add some pieces here, and he took it.”</p><p>Licht did not name the team in question. However, Smith noted that many around the league believe the Patriots were the team to make lucrative offers for Godwin.</p><p>This does line up with other rumors that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-england-patriots/nfl-rumors-patriots-chris-godwin-hard-buccaneers-return">New England did everything they could to try and lure in Chris Godwin</a> during NFL free agency.</p><p>Ultimately, the Buccaneers re-signed Chris Godwin on a <a href="https://bsky.app/profile/rapsheet1.bsky.social/post/3ljzwsmgksc2k" rel="noopener">three-year contract worth $66 million</a> according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. And, it’s safe to say he’s starting to do so, as <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/buccaneers-news-haason-reddick-14-million-contract-after-busting-with-jets">Reddick signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers</a> on a one-year, $14 million prove-it contract in free agency. Now, while his 2024 antics might’ve scared teams away, there were <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/ranking-3-best-haason-reddick-landing-spots-in-2025-nfl-free-agency">plenty of potential landing spots for Haason Reddick</a> — including the Buccaneers — in the offseason. However, while other teams missed out, Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht joined WDAE radio Thursday night and <a href="https://www.joebucsfan.com/2025/03/jason-licht-explains-the-truth-he-shared-with-hasson-reddick/" rel="noopener">discussed why it was easy to sign</a> Reddick once he reached free agency.</p><p>“He’s such a freak, freak athlete and he really knows how to get after the quarterback,” Licht said via Joebucsfan.com.</p><p>“And, you know, [50] sacks in four years — just one year removed from that string that he had where he was an elite guy — and during the [2024] season, it was just kind of a bizarre year for him as he explained with the Jets. But when we knew that he was going to be a free agent, and we had talked several times internally that if he hits free agency — or when he does — that this guy might be something that’s worth, you know, betting on. Because he’s going to be very hungry to prove to everybody that he is still the same player that he was before last year.”</p><p>And when looking at his four-season stint from 2020 to 2023, he was truly an elite pass rusher.</p><ul><li><b>ARI- 2020:</b> 16 starts, 11 games, 16 quarterback hits, 15 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks</li><li><b>CAR- 2021:</b> 16 games, 16 starts, 18 quarterback hits, 12 tackles for loss, 11 sacks</li><li><b>PHI- 2022:</b> 17 games, 17 starts, 26 quarterback hits, 11 tackles for loss, 16 sacks</li><li><b>PHI- 2023:</b> 17 games, 17 starts, 23 quarterback hits, 13 tackles for loss, 11 sacks</li></ul><p>Now, with 2022 being his best year — earning him a Pro Bowl invite and earning a roster spot on the second-team All-Pro defense, as well as putting him in the voting for Defensive Player of the Year — he took a noticeable dip in 2023.</p><p>However, as a pass-rush specialist, the top priority is disrupting the quarterback. And while his sack total decreased by nearly 50% from 2022 to 2023, ending the year with double-digit sacks is always a positive. Even if the total amount is lower than anticipated, it’s difficult to feel negative about double-digit sacks.</p><p>But totaling just one sack in 2024 should have teams hesitant to trust that he’ll return to a double-digit sacks guy in 2025. He could, but the likelihood isn’t sky-high.</p><p>Something to note, though, is Reddick’s production while among a decent pass rush.</p><p>2020 might be a bit of an outlier, as Reddick was the Arizona Cardinals’ only double-digit sacker that season. The Carolina Panthers in 2021 could be a bit of an outsider, too, but at least Reddick had Brian Burns (9 sacks) by his side.</p><p>The 2022 Philadelphia Eagles’ pass rush was truly insane, though, resulting in Reddick’s best season through eight seasons. Not only did Reddick have an unreal year, but the Eagles had four players finish 2024 with double-digit sacks: Haason Reddick (16), Javon Hargrave (11), Josh Sweat (11), and Brandon Graham (11).</p><p>Now, looking at Haason Reddick’s fit with the Buccaneers’ defense alongside Calijah Kancey, Vita Vea, and Lavonte David, the 30-year-old could revert to his former self after signing with Tampa in free agency.</p><p>And Jason Licht believed the hype enough to sign him to the Buccaneers defense.</p><p>“He’s very, very determined to prove to everybody that [2024] was a fluke, that he’s still the same player,” Licht added. “He’s a great guy. He’s going to be a great fit. He can already sense what the locker room is like. And he’s just one of those guys that you like to be direct with.”</p><p>So, going into Year 9 on his fifth team, new Buccaneers free agency signing Haason Reddick looks to bring the boom to Tampa, FL, in the 2025 season, and GM Jason Licht believes in him.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

However, a popular mock draft pick, who is an Alabama star, missed his Pro Day <a href="https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/alabama-lb-jihaad-campbell-a-top-draft-prospect-is-rehabbing-after-shoulder-surgery" rel="noopener">because of surgery</a>, according to nbcsports.com.</p><p>Linebacker Jihaad Campbell is one of the top defensive prospects in the 2025 draft. But he didn’t participate in Alabama’s Pro Day on Wednesday. Campbell is recovering from left shoulder surgery as he reportedly had a torn labrum.</p><p>Campbell impressed NFL scouts in the Scouting Combine, running a 4.52 in the 40-yard dash. However, he did not bench press or do the vertical jump.</p><h2><b>Will LB Jihaad Campbell be ready for start of 2025 season?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/University-of-Alabama-LB-Jihaad-Campbell.jpg"><figcaption>Kirby Lee-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>This type of injury, and the timing of it, brings into question whether Campbell will be ready to go in Week 1. They hold the No. 19 pick.</p><p>Here is the Pro Football Network scouting report on the 6-foot-2, 235-pound Campbell.</p><p>“Jihaad Campbell has the skillset to be a disruptive defender at linebacker and can impact the game in both phases,” PFN wrote. “He has excellent size and length and is an outstanding athlete overall. He is an explosive mover who flashes very good short-area quickness and straight-line speed.</p><p>“Campbell is a highly versatile player who is best as an off-ball backer (who) is also asked to rush the passer as a blitzer. (He utilizes) his explosiveness, power, and length. Campbell has an exciting blend of speed, power, and length to be a highly disruptive player at the second level of an NFL defense.”</p><h2><b>Jihaad Campbell enjoyed the tutelage of Nick Saban</b></h2><p>Those are the high points the Buccaneers might like. Campbell recently said he <a href="https://www.al.com/alabamafootball/2025/02/jihaad-campbell-on-comparing-nick-saban-and-kalen-deboer-its-not-happening.html" rel="noopener">learned a lot</a> from Saban before the veteran Alabama coach stepped down, according to al.com.</p><p>“I appreciate him for mentoring me,” Campbell said. “And guiding me through a lot of different things for my two years that he was there. My freshman and sophomore year. And he had to retire, that was the best decision for him, and as his players and as a whole program, we definitely respected that and we appreciated it.”</p><p>There are several things Campbell would need to work on to be ready for the Buccaneers’ lineup.</p><p>“Campbell is a reactionary player rather than an instinctive defender,” PFN wrote. “He is a read-and-react linebacker who has to see the play develop in front of him rather than anticipate the play. This was particularly true with the futures of longtime stalwarts Chris Godwin and Lavonte David hanging in the balance. Despite reaching the open market, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/buccaneers-news-chris-godwin-leaves-20-million-table-66-million-contract">Godwin ultimately chose to stay in Tampa Bay</a>. But that really happened. Mayfield, obviously, won the job and went on to throw for 4,044 yards with 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The hope is that Godwin makes a full recovery and is ready to go for the Buccaneers at the start of next season.</p><p>The Buccaneers did all they could to re-sign Godwin, and they know that he’s an important part of the team. It’s been a good day for the team aside from Godwin, as they agreed to a three-year, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/buccaneers-news-baker-mayfield-love-22-million-contract-given-17-game-starter">$22 million deal with guard Ben Bredeson</a>, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.</p><p>With Bredeson in the lineup, they went from the worst rushing team in 2023 to being the fourth-best in 2024 with 2,356 rushing yards. Bredeson had a run block rate of 70.5%, which was 19th among guards in the league with 1,000 or more offensive snaps.</p><p>The Buccaneers also signed Hasson Reddick, and they’ll get a boost on their defensive line with his play. The team is definitely ready to make another playoff next season as they bring back their core group and add more pieces.
