However, Michael Penix Jr. could be without one of his top targets in a road game against another NFC South rival on Sunday. Atlanta tight end Kyle Pitts is the latest addition to the team’s injury report.</p><p>Pitts, Drake London, and Bijan Robinson lead the Falcons in targets, receptions, and receiving yards so far. However, the former two have each had their own injury scares early. Despite their issues, Atlanta’s offense is one of the more effective units in the league through two weeks, cruising to a win over the Minnesota Vikings after a heartbreaker against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.</p><p>According to NBC Sports, Pitts was <a href="https://www.nbcsports.com/fantasy/football/player-news?playerNewsId=00000199-5e6f-d6a5-adff-feef24460000&amp;utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter" rel="noopener">limited in practice</a> on Thursday because of a toe injury. His status for Sunday’s game is not in any real danger, but the team will monitor his health heading into the game against Carolina. If Pitts cannot play, Robinson and London will have more responsibility in the Falcons’ passing game.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/atlanta-falcons/falcons-news-michael-penix-jr-leaves-raheem-morris-gushing-snf">Penix Jr. has impressed Morris</a> and others in his second NFL season. However, being without Pitts gives him another test to pass. Atlanta missed AJ Terrell and James Pearce Jr. are also nursing injuries that could keep them out of action in Week 3. Without two of the team’s better defenders, the Falcons may have to put more on their quarterback’s plate.</p><p>Luckily for Atlanta, they may not need Pitts or Terrell to beat the Panthers. Carolina has had a rough start to the season, especially young quarterback Bryce Young. Despite the team’s struggles, it will try to put its best foot forward as it opens up divisional play. The Falcons’ wide receiver room is currently a bit of a question mark, with Darnell Mooney and multiple other players currently dealing with injury.</p><p>One of the biggest sources of angst for the Falcons’ fanbase over the last few years has been tight end Kyle Pitts, whom the team drafted fourth overall back in 2021 and who has failed to come anywhere near his lofty expectations.</p><p>This being the case, it would make sense that the Falcons may look to trade the former Florida Gator at some point, and that could come sooner rather than later according to ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano, <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46079215/2025-nfl-surprise-predictions-32-teams-stat-leaders-breakouts-fantasy-football" rel="noopener">who recently said</a> “don’t be surprised” if Pitts gets traded.</p><p>“Part of this is what I’m seeing — or rather <i>not</i> seeing. Pitts is in the final year of his contract, playing for $10.878 million on the fifth-year option from his rookie deal. The Falcons have made no move to extend him beyond this season,” reported Graziano.</p><p>Graziano also noted that “…there are definitely signs that they don’t view Pitts as a great fit for what they’re trying to do on offense. They will need all hands on deck if they want to win the NFC South later this fall.</p><p>Falcons GM Terry Fontenot <a href="https://x.com/TerrinWaack/status/1949458079591866462" rel="noopener">dodged a question</a> about Kyle Pitts’ contract during an interview on Sunday. In fact, there was only one thing that Fontenot wanted to say about Pitts at the beginning of training camp.</p><p>“We’re not going to talk about specific contracts,” Fontenot said. “I’ll say this about Kyle…he showed up in great shape, and he showed up with great mentality.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/nfl-rumors-kyle-pitts-trade-option-for-dolphins-after-steelers-trade">Pitts was the subject of trade rumors</a> earlier this offseason. Year 2 of understanding what we’re trying to do offensively. All those things that come with it, so expecting a lot of good things from Kyle. He knows what he needs to work on with the details, some of the fundamentals and techniques, the consistency down in and down out, those are things we talk about with him and (tight ends coach Kevin) Koger talks about with him all the time is those finer details and that next level that he can take as a player.”</p><p>Pitts had one of his better seasons in 2024, hauling in 47 receptions for 602 yards and four touchdowns. That is still much lower than the sky-high expectations placed on Pitts when he entered the NFL.</p><p>The 2025 season will be huge for Pitts, regardless of whether he wants to remain in Atlanta in the future.</p><p>Hopefully Pitts takes a big step forward this fall, just like Robinson predicted.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Atlanta Falcons</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Quarterback <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/atlanta-falcons/falcons-news-atlanta-w-super-bowl-prediction-michael-penix-jr">Michael Penix Jr. has been leading the charge</a> for the Atlanta Falcons so far at training camp, widely expected to be the team’s starter in 2025 after replacing Kirk Cousins down the stretch of last season. While <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/atlanta-falcons/falcons-news-legendary-wr-michael-penix-jr-kirk-cousins-dynamic">Cousins is still on the roster</a>, creating a bit of a potentially awkward situation, Penix Jr. has shown poise and maturity during his limited time as the Falcons’ starting quarterback.</p><p>One source of angst among the Falcons’ fanbase has been the play of tight end Kyle Pitts, who was drafted fourth overall in 2021 but has yet to live up to the lofty standards he displayed at Florida.</p><p>Recently, Penix Jr. made sure to shout out Pitts <a href="https://x.com/Schultz_Report/status/1948425012169314362" rel="noopener">at a press conference</a> during training camp.</p><p>“See we got Kyle Pitts the ball today? Gonna be a lot of that,” said Penix Jr., per NFL insider Jordan Schultz on X, formerly Twitter (via Justin Felder).</p><p>Falcons fans would indeed like to see more production out of Pitts this year and are hoping that a quarterback change will do the trick. Pitts and Penix Jr. connected for a clutch touchdown in Atlanta’s late season game against the Washington Commanders last year that sent the contest into overtime, which could perhaps be a glimpse of things to come moving forward between the duo.</p><h2><b>Can the Falcons compete?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Michael-Penix-Jr2.jpg"><figcaption>Brett Davis-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Falcons’ biggest weakness coming into this offseason was the team’s pass rush, which has been among the worst units in the NFL for most of the last decades.</p><p>Atlanta invested heavily in that department by spending their own first round draft pick on Jalon Walker out of the University of Georgia and then trading back into the first round to select James Pearce out of Tennessee.</p><p>If those two picks pan out, the Falcons could finally see a competent pass rush for the first time in a long while.</p><p>That, combined with continued ascendance from Penix Jr. as well as the emergence of star running back Bijan Robinson, could be enough to vault the Falcons back into the postseason for the first time in eight years.</p><p>However, there are quite a lot of “if’s” in that scenario.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He has previously written fantasy football content for IDPGuys and ImportantNonsense.com.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Atlanta Falcons</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Miami Dolphins shocked the NFL world with a big trade on Monday. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/steelers-dolphins-trade-grade-jalen-ramsey-minkah-fitzpatrick-jonnu-smith">Miami traded Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith to Pittsburgh</a> in exchange for Minkah Fitzpatrick and draft picks. One NFL insider believes the Dolphins could make another move to shore up the roster before training camp.</p><p>ESPN’s Marce Louis-Jacques answered a few Dolphins-related questions in a recent article following Monday’s big trade.</p><p>Louis-Jacques suggested that the Dolphins <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45617965/jalen-ramsey-minkah-fitzpatrick-steelers-dolphins-trade-questions-contract" rel="noopener">could be interested</a> in Kyle Pitts to fill their vacant tight end spot.</p><p>“Miami could also use a pass-catching tight end, considering the top players in that position group are primarily blockers,” Louis-Jacques wrote. “Former undrafted free agents Tanner Conner, Hayden Rucci and Jalin Conyers have potential as pass catchers but are unproven. One name to keep an eye on is Kyle Pitts — if the Atlanta Falcons are willing to entertain offers for him.”</p><p>News broke back in May that Atlanta has received <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/nfl-rumors-falcons-kyle-pitts-drawing-legitimate-trade-interest">“legitimate trade interest” in tight end Kyle Pitts</a>.</p><p>Pitts has the traits of an elite receiving tight end. Unfortunately, he has yet to deliver on those expectations while in Atlanta.</p><p>Pitts put up over 1,000 receiving yards in his rookie season in 2021, but has failed to live up to that mark ever since. Perhaps a change of scenery could be good for Pitts heading into the final year of his rookie contract.</p><p>That is, if the Falcons are actually willing to trade him.</p><h2><b>How will the Jalen Ramsey trade impact the Dolphins defense in 2025?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Jalen-Ramsey-makes-play.jpg"><figcaption>© Gregory Fisher-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Louis-Jacques also commented on what <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/jalen-ramsey-breaks-news-of-his-own-steelers-dolphins-trade">the loss of Jalen Ramsey</a> could mean to the Dolphins this fall.</p><p>Surprisingly, Louis-Jacques is not too concerned about the Dolphins losing Ramsey. That’s because the situation is so bad that one player cannot fix it alone.</p><p>“The Dolphins’ situation at cornerback is no different than it was two weeks ago — they still need two starters on either side of the field. Grier has suggested the availability of multiple veteran free agents, and that’s an increasingly likely route prior to the start of training camp,” Louis-Jacques added. “Their current cornerbacks room has plenty of youth and potential, but little starting experience.”</p><p>The Dolphins currently have Storm Duck, Jason Marshall Jr., and Kader Kohou as their top cornerbacks heading into training camp.</p><p>It would be a huge surprise if the Dolphins do not add at least two veteran cornerbacks to shore up that position.</p><p>It will be interesting to watch Miami’s secondary throughout the 2025 NFL season now that Ramsey is gone.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
