He’s mostly worked as a slot corner and in his usual returner role on special teams to this point.</p><p>Jones is keeping himself prepared though just in case his number is called again.</p><p>“I find out when you guys find out,” Jones told reporters. “I can’t give you anything. I don’t know anything right now. So whenever my number is called, I’ll make sure I’m gonna be ready.”</p><p>If Jones’ conversations with new Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien are any indication on if he’ll play offense, don’t expect it to happen anytime soon. Jones shared that he hasn’t had much conversation with O’Brien to this point.</p><p>“The most conversation I had [with] him is, ‘how’s your day going?’ and ‘my day’s going good,’” Jones jokingly said.</p><p>Jones’ first offensive snap came as a bit of a surprise last season. There were no indications that he was going to play on that side of the ball despite playing a little bit of offense in college.</p><p>But in Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills, Jones turned a screen pass into a 48-yard touchdown on his first offensive snap in the NFL. He played some more offensive snaps later in the season, recording three more receptions on 18 total offensive snaps.</p><p>Just as he was with his offensive snaps, Jones was as efficient at keeping things a secret when asked when he thinks he’ll get more offensive snaps.</p><p>“I don’t know. Just came in and tried to do it as coach said.”</p><p>Jones didn’t say if a particular coach came up to him with the idea, but mentioned that it was the collective offensive staff that decided to play him on that side of the ball.</p><p>It’s the second time in three games that the Patriots’ rookie has found the end zone. He has assumed full-time returner duties and still plays a fair amount of the defensive snaps. Jones said he takes pride in having the coaching staff’s trust like that.</p><p>“It definitely means a lot,” Jones said. “Just coming in and making sure I’m one of those people to where I try to keep my head down and just keep working and things like that. For the coaches to trust me, that means a lot.”</p><p>Marcus Jones has excelled in all phases of the game over the last few weeks — and he doesn’t plan on stopping.</p><p>“I’m definitely one of those people where I’m learning each and every day, so I’m not going to say that I know everything, because, as a rookie especially, you don’t know everything,” Jones said. “New things come in, you have to absorb and just go.”</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

For whatever reason, the Jets punted the ball to Jones instead of kicking it out of bounds. That decision ended the Jets’ chances of winning Sunday’s game because Jones returned the ball 84 yards to score the game-winning touchdown with five seconds remaining.</p><p>Jones said after the game that he was happy to get the win but was already looking to turn the page.</p><p>Jones’ Patriots teammates though were ecstatic for him and for their team after his game-winning play.</p><p>Patriots defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr., who had a sack on Sunday, compared the ending to the win against the Jets to the most memorable football movies.</p><p>“It started right here, and it went this way. I think that is, like I told somebody else, how the game ended, it was phenomenal,” Wise said. “I think it was almost like a movie script in a sense. I think out of all the football movies, ‘Rudy,’ ‘Any Given Sunday,’ and ‘Remember the Titans,’ this beats it. Matthew Slater, who is the captain of the special teams unit, took particular pride in how the game was won.</p><p>“It’s special. It’s one of the hardest-working groups I’ve been around in terms of a special teams unit,” Slater said. “They really play for each other and I really feel like we love each other. It’s a good mixture of young and old and we go out there and play for each other. We have other guys out there that are playing in their other roles on the team and giving just one hundred percent effort because we all know if you make a couple blocks, Marcus can do the rest.</p><p>“To go out earlier in the game and come back and just be ready to go, locked in, biggest moment of the game as a rookie. Everyone always talks about experience. It’s being ready to go, it’s knowing what you’re supposed to do, and it’s executing. Marcus did that and it was a huge play for us, I’ve never been a part of anything like that. They kicked the ball out of bounds on their last two punts. Furthermore, Jones made a name for himself in college as a returner, scoring 10 touchdowns as a returner over his four-year career.</p><p>“My main thing was that they were going to try to kick the ball out of bounds due to the time on the clock,” Jones said. “The first thing was to try and make sure I follow my teammates blocking. Then, I seen the punter and I was like, ‘If I make him miss, I should be able to go the distance.'”</p><p>Jones initially didn’t recall if he had scored a game-winning touchdown before being reminded that he did during his college days at Houston. Sunday’s was better, according to Jones.</p><p>“This is the biggest one. As exciting of a win that may sound like, Jones is ready for the next game.</p><p>“It’s one of those situations that I’m definitely happy for the divisional win,” Jones added. “That’s the main thing. But now, I’m onto the next week.
