The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/chiefs-rumors-rashee-rice-could-reach-settlement-with-nfl-over-suspension">Chiefs will need</a> all of the help they can get at the wide receiver position this year with Travis Kelce a shell of his former self and Rashee Rice preparing for an inevitable suspension from the NFL.</p><p>Brown has been at practice this week, per Matt McMullen of the Chiefs, and recently, Kansas City head coach Andy Reid spoke on <a href="https://x.com/ByNateTaylor/status/1957487170941513749" rel="noopener">the possibility of</a> Brown playing in the Chiefs’ upcoming preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Friday.</p><p>“We’ll see how he progresses through this thing. It’s not a matter of want. He wants to do it. He’s taking it slow &amp; we don’t want any setbacks,” said Reid, per Nate Taylor on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Chiefs fans understandably would want the team to be cautious about rushing Brown back into the fold as he recovers from his injury, but it will also be important that he isn’t rusty when Kansas City begins its regular season in just under three weeks.</p><h2><b>A possible weakness for the Chiefs</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Travis-Kelce_c553b1.jpg"><figcaption>Joe Rondone/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images.</figcaption></figure><p>It wasn’t too long ago that the Kansas City Chiefs were torching opposing defenses with the lethal combination of Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce.</p><p>However, Hill has been a member of the Miami Dolphins for a few years now and Kelce doesn’t seem to have a whole lot left in the tank, even if he can turn it up on occasion.</p><p>Add that to the prospect of Rashee Rice being suspended for likely at least four games due to his role in a 2024 hit and run incident, and the Chiefs could see the wide receiver position be a major weak spot this year, just as it was during the 2023 season, when they set NFL records for dropped passes.</p><p>The good news is that the Chiefs went on to win the Super Bowl that year anyway.</p><p>In any case, the Chiefs have just under three weeks remaining until the regular season begins against the Los Angeles Chargers on September 5.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The one thing you don’t want to happen this early is injuries, and that’s what the Chiefs dealt with in their latest practice. Wide receiver <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/chiefs-news-andy-reid-marquise-brown-replacement-shoulder-injury">Marquise Brown suffered an injury</a> during practice and went back to the team’s facility in the front seat of the car.</p><p>Xavier Worthy was <a href="https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1950217254068473892" rel="noopener">also shaken up</a> during practice, and many people will want to know what his status is moving forward in camp. Worthy and Brown are the two top receivers for the Chiefs, and it will be no good news if they have to miss some substantial time. He missed the first 14 games of the season and returned in Week 16 against the Houston Texans. Worthy was probably the healthiest receiver for the Chiefs last season, and he finished with 638 receiving yards and six touchdowns.</p><p>Worthy will most likely have a bigger role on the offense this season, coming into his second year, and also with the uncertainty of <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/chiefs-news-rashee-rice-facing-multi-game-suspension-sentencing">Rashee Rice and his situation</a>, there’s a chance he could be the WR1.</p><h2><b>Chiefs dealing with questions at the wide receiver position</b></h2><p>There should be an update on Worthy and Brown in the coming days, and the hope is that they don’t have to miss time at training camp. If so, the Chiefs may be low on firepower at the position, especially with Rice not participating in camp, after he was sentenced to five years’ probation and 30 days of jail time for his role in a multi-car crash that took place in 2024. At this point, there’s a good chance that Rice will also receive a multi-game suspension.</p><p>Skyy Moore is the next reliable wide receiver for the Chiefs, and then you go over to tight ends and see Travis Kelce, who has always been one of Patrick Mahomes’ favorite targets.</p><p>It’ll be interesting to see how the offense looks this season, but it’s never a surprise that they’re one of the better units in football when Mahomes is in control.</p><p>The Chiefs will also be looking to get back to the Super Bowl after taking a tough loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

However, he <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-marquise-brown-hospitalized-after-painful-injury-jaguars">suffered a sternoclavicular injury during the preseason</a> and was placed on injured reserve for most of the season.</p><p>He returned for the last two games of the regular season, making nine catches for 91 yards. In the playoffs, he made three receptions for 35 yards.</p><p>It’s far from the performances Brown knows he is more than capable of providing for the Chiefs when healthy. He was a key target in 2021 with the Baltimore Ravens, making 91 catches for his lone season of 1,000 or more receiving yards. Brown is set to hit free agency this offseason and heading to the Buffalo Bills could be on the table for him. Josh Allen has reportedly wanted to play with Brown.</p><p>ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/insider/story/_/id/43736371/super-bowl-2025-latest-nfl-buzz-news-rumors-free-agency-trades-draft" rel="noopener">elaborated on the situation</a> in his recent notebook.</p><p>“The Chiefs very much want to keep receiver Hollywood Brown, who should have a good market due to teams’ desire for speed options on the outside,” Fowler wrote. “Mahomes advocated for signing Brown last year and will likely do so again. Will another star quarterback — like Josh Allen — be next? People with the Chiefs I spoke to this week believe that Allen has long wanted to play with Brown.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bills-news-josh-allens-mvp-first-21-years">Allen, who was just named MVP,</a> could benefit from playing alongside Brown. Wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is <a href="https://x.com/Schultz_Report/status/1870159618623844736" rel="noopener">set to return</a> from a shoulder injury and make his debut with the team, per Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz.</p><p>Brown is being activated off the injured reserve ahead of <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kansas-city-chiefs-bold-predictions-week-16-texans">Saturday’s home game versus the Houston Texans</a>. The Chiefs signed the former Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals talent with the intention of restoring a deep-threat element to their passing attack, and now fans will find out if their instincts were right.</p><p>Aside from all-time great tight end Travis Kelce, no KC pass-catcher has accumulated 500 receiving yards. Patrick Mahomes and the offense look more mortal than ever before, but the team is still <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/how-chiefs-can-clinch-afcs-no-1-seed-in-week-16">alone at the top</a> with a 13-1 record. If Brown can simply perform at a competent level, the Chiefs would stunningly become even more dangerous.</p><p>But that is a sizable “if.” Brown has not fulfilled his ample promise to this point of his NFL career. He surpassed 90 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards only once in his first five seasons, failing to solidify himself as a bona fide No. 1 WR. The 27-year-old has never played with Mahomes, though.</p><h2><b>Chiefs will try to get Marquise Brown ready for the playoffs</b></h2><p>Pairing a promising athlete with a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-patrick-mahomes-named-super-bowl-58-mvp-win-49ers">three-time Super Bowl MVP</a> is a good way to maximize potential. Mahomes could also use another impactful target alongside Kelce, De’Andre Hopkins and rookie Xavier Worthy, to name a few. Chiefs Kingdom is ready to see what the tandem can achieve, as the playoffs draw closer.</p><p>Kansas City head coach Andy Reid has a few weeks to help Marquise Brown get comfortable in his offense. Wide receiver <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-kansas-city-takes-massive-step-adding-marquise-brown-offense">Marquise Brown has been trending in a promising direction for weeks now</a>, and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that Kansas City is planning to activate him barring any setbacks.</p><p>“The #Chiefs plan to activate Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown (reserve/injured, shoulder) for Saturday’s game vs. Houston assuming everything continues trending positively this week, per sources. Brown looks to make his Chiefs debut after missing four months,” Fowler wrote on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>The 13-1 Chiefs are looking to finish the regular season strong. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-marquise-brown-injury-update-playoffs">Brown could make a big impact as he prepares to make his Chiefs debut</a>.</p><p>The veteran receiver previously played for the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals before joining the Chiefs before the 2024 season. However, he has yet to play in a game with the Chiefs, something Kansas City is hopeful will change on Saturday.</p><p>Although Kansas City has played at a high level all season long, Houston currently leads the AFC South with a 9-5 record. They are a team that could certainly make things interesting on Saturday. This matchup may be a potential postseason preview. A win will feel like a massive statement for the Texans.</p><p>The Chiefs will enter the game with confidence, though. For the record, I’m on record saying that calls of the Chiefs demise are premature. I even went as far as suggesting that the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/why-chiefs-could-actually-run-the-table-go-undefeated-2024">Chiefs’ ability to win these sorts of games over and over again strengthens their three-peat chances.</a></p><p>With that being said, what’s happened to the Chiefs offense over the course of the last couple of seasons <i>does </i>feel problematic. Right now, Kansas City is outside of the top ten in both points per game and yards per game. Suffice to say, this is the first time in the Patrick Mahomes-era that this has been the case. We can point fingers at Mahomes’ sloppy play, Travis Kelce’s age, or Matt Nagy’s overall incompetence for this trend, but let’s not forget that the Chiefs offense has been ravaged by injuries this season.</p><p>Leading receiver Rashee Rice was sidelined for the remainder of the season after a Week 4 knee injury. Two weeks prior, starting running back Isaiah Pacheco was sent to the injured reserve after suffering a fracture fibula. And then there’s Marquise Brown, who was placed on the IR before he even had a chance to step on the field for a Chiefs regular season game.</p><p>Fortunately, the man who has come to be known as “Hollywood” appears to be <a href="https://x.com/AlbertBreer/status/1867597981433708638" rel="noopener">gearing up for a return</a> that may propel the Chiefs toward their own Hollywood ending.</p><p>Per NFL on Prime insider Albert Breer:</p><p>“The Chiefs are opening WR Hollywood Brown’s practice window today, per source. Hope has been he’d return this week or next, so he’s right on time. First step in getting him back into game action.”</p><p>With the losses of Brown — who was looking for a bounce back season in Kansas City after career low production in 2023 — Rice and Pacheco, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-kansas-city-finalizing-deandre-hopkins-trade">the Chiefs traded for DeAndre Hopkins</a> to account for that missing production, and thus far, the 12-year veteran has been able to provide Patrick Mahomes with a reliable target. In just seven games, DeAndre Hopkins has caught 30 of the 45 targets that have come his way for 357 yards and four touchdowns.</p><p>The Chiefs are currently two games in the loss column ahead of both Buffalo and Pittsburgh, though the Bills <i>do </i>have the tiebreaker over Kansas City. Three of KC’s final four games of the season are on the road — against Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Denver — with a Week 16 matchup with the Texans serving as their regular season home finale.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Barring a setback, it seems as if a return before the season’s conclusion is a possibility. Veterans Justin Watson and Mecole Hardman have had their time on the field as well as the only two healthy pass-catchers providing any depth.</p><p>Along with Rice and Brown, the Chiefs also have receivers Skyy Moore and Jaaron Hayek on injured reserve. Brown injured his shoulder during the Chiefs’ preseason opener and had been recovering from it ever since.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-kansas-city-patrick-mahomes-find-new-wr1-in-hollywood-brown">Kansas City acquired Brown as another receiving threat</a> for superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but fans will have to wait a little longer to see their connection. Mahomes will have to lean on such players as star tight end Travis Kelce, receiver Rashee Rice, and rookie Xavier Worthy.</p><p>Brown had started his career with the Baltimore Ravens where he spent three seasons before playing two years after with the Arizona Cardinals which then led to signing with the Chiefs. Last season, Brown caught 51 passes for 574 yards to go along with four touchdowns.</p><h2><b>Chiefs’ Hollywood Brown “trending in the right direction”</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Marquise-Brown-of-the-Cardinals.jpg"><figcaption>© Joe Rondone/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK</figcaption></figure><p>It was already going to be a hard time for Brown to play as combining the recovery with the short week the Chiefs are on since it is a Thursday night game, the expectation came true from Schefter. However, there could be some positivity as Chiefs general manager did say that Brown was “trending in the right direction” last Thursday when speaking to the media.</p><p>“I don’t like talking about medical because if I say something and he’s ahead of that timeline or behind that timeline then I don’t want to put any more pressure on the kid,” Veach said, via transcript from the team. “I probably can confidently say it was similar to Tyreek, and I think given that timeline I think it falls within the timeline that Tyreek went through, but I know he’s here every day. He’s to the point now where he can laugh without pain, so that’s a good thing.”</p><p>“He’s certainly trending in the right direction,” Veach continued Thursday. “And look, there was a reason why we didn’t put him on the IR to start the season.”</p><h2><b>Patrick Mahomes talks impact on losing Hollywood Brown</b></h2><p>As mentioned before, Brown’s involvement with the Chiefs was a plan to help Mahomes as the wide receiver play last season was filled with disappointment except for Rice. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-patrick-mahomes-reveals-mindset-hollywood-brown-injury">Mahomes spoke about the injury to Brown</a> and said that while the team has to do without him, it is rough since he had a “good understanding of what I want.”</p><p>“I guess we’re lucky that it wasn’t as bad as it could have been,” Mahomes said earlier this month. “We lose a little bit of that veteran-type receiver in that room. We have other guys that can replace him a little bit, but to have that much talent, hopefully we’re getting him back sooner rather than later.”</p><p>“We’ve just got to keep pushing those young [receivers] to keep getting…better every day,” Mahomes continued.</p><p>At any rate, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-vs-chiefs-how-to-watch-nfl-kickoff-game">the Chiefs opens the season Thursday night against the Ravens</a> who they beat the AFC Championship game last season as no doubt they are looking for revenge. Brown did reunite with Murray with the Cardinals as well. Still, he is a talented receiver, and it shows how much talent was on that 2018 Oklahoma football roster.</p><h2><b>A lot has changed for Oklahoma football since CeeDee Lamb’s playing days</b></h2><p>Back in 2018, Oklahoma had Lamb, Murray and Brown on offense, and was in the second season of Lincoln Riley’s tenure as head coach after Bob Stoops’ retirement. Now, Brent Venables is the head coach after Lincoln Riley’s move to USC a few years ago. However, that is not the biggest difference.</p><p>Oklahoma is gearing up for its first season in the SEC, leaving the Big 12 conference that the program was in for so long. It will be interesting to see how the Sooners fare. However, a shoulder injury has <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-marquise-brown-gets-injury-timeline-after-scary-shoulder-injury">now sidelined Brown</a> for the foreseeable future.</p><p>With the man they called Hollywood down, Kansas City <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40849192/kansas-city-chiefs-marquise-brown-injury-xavier-worthy" rel="noopener">has turned to</a> Justin Watson in his place. Watson has received many of the reps Brown would be getting if he were on the field, via Adam Teicher of ESPN.</p><p>Brown is scheduled to miss four to six weeks after dislocating a joint in his shoulder. He won’t require surgery, but the speedster is in danger of missing Week 1. While the rest of the preseason could shake things up, Watson seems most likely to start next to Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy should Brown be forced to miss regular season playing time.</p><p>After beginning his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Watson has spent the last two seasons in Kansas City. With the Buccaneers winning the Super Bowl in 2021 and the Chiefs going back-to-back, Watson has earned three straight championship rings. Perhaps his Super Bowl pedigree has given him a boost up the depth chart.</p><p>His 2023 campaign saw Watson catch 27 passes for 460 yards and three touchdowns; all career-highs. He tied for the second-most receptions on the team amongst wide receivers while his yardage and touchdown catches put him behind just Rice.</p><p>Over his entire six year NFL career, Justin Watson has caught 65 passes for 1,033 yards and seven touchdowns. He would have a major opportunity to improve those numbers should he earn a starting role heading into Week 1.</p><h2><b>Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs need wide receiver help</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Justin-Watson.jpg"><figcaption>Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>While the Chiefs have the future Hall of Famer Travis Kelce, Kansas City needed more playmaking ability on the outside. That was the whole reason they signed Brown. But at least early in the year, they’ll be forced to look elsewhere.</p><p>One immediate option will be first-round pick Xavier Worthy. After breaking the NFL combine record in the 40-yard dash, Worthy is ready to bring his jets to the Chiefs. He was a force during his three years at Texas, catching 197 passes for 2,755 yards and 26 touchdowns.</p><p>Watson and Worthy will be joined by Rice, who developed into the de facto leader in the wide receiver room in 2023. He led all Kansas City receivers with 79 catches for 938 yards and seven touchdowns. He will once again be looked at as one of Patrick Mahomes’ most trustworthy targets.</p><p>With two years of experience under his belt now, Justin Watson is looking to join him. When Marquise Brown does return, Watson will likely be relegated to the bench. But a strong performance in the early season can show Andy Reid and company that Watson deserves to stay on the gridiron.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
