Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">New Orleans Saints</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>When news broke that Derek Carr could potentially <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-orleans-saints/saints-news-derek-carr-future-doubt-with-potentially-season-ending-shoulder-injury">miss the entirety of the 2025 NFL season</a> with a shoulder injury, it called the New Orleans Saints’ immediate future into question.</p><p>Suddenly, any ideas new head coach Kellen Moore had for a Carr-led offense would almost certainly need to be scrapped and in their place, the team would need to settle on something new, be that signing a free agent like Aaron Rodgers, trading for a player with familiarity in a Moore offense, or drafting a top-tier talent like Shedeur Sanders to answer their quarterback situation long-term.</p><p>As a result, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/colorado-football-news-deion-sanders-pours-gasoline-shedeur-saints-rumors-cryptic-post">Sanders-Saints connection has rapidly picked up steam</a> over the past few weeks, but what if that suggestion is a bit too shortsighted? What if, regardless of who is on the board at pick No. 9, the Saints instead look to pick the highest-upside player available at the expense of their short-term success and instead take a shot at the quarterback class of 2026, which could be headlined by Texas’ Arch Manning?</p><p>Well, that is the <a href="https://x.com/ESPNNFL/status/1911885735621181649" rel="noopener">suggestion one NFL executive</a> told Adam Schefter, who passed it along to fans on ESPN’s <i>NFL Live</i>.</p><p>“I even had one football executive say that the best thing the Saints can do right now, and they would disagree with this, New Orleans, it was just a suggestion from another team, the best thing they could do is tank this year and see if they can entice Arch Manning to come out after next year to come back in and play quarterback for New Orleans,” Schefter declared. “Now we’re getting way ahead of ourselves, but it’s fun to speculate at this time of the year when we’re going over scenarios like this.”</p><p>Whoa, talk about a hot take, but is it really? While some, like Mel Kiper Jr., believe <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ncaa-football/colorado-football-news-where-shedeur-sanders-going-mel-kipers-final-mock-draft">Sanders is the best quarterback in this year’s class</a>, there isn’t a passer who will be selected in the 2025 NFL Draft who is expected to be of the same caliber as Manning. Widely considered the best quarterback prospect since Caleb Williams coming out of USC, there will be teams who come off to a slow start this fall and will debate if fighting for a playoff spot is worth losing out on their quarterback of the next 15 years.</p><p>Will the Saints be one of them? So that was the first sign that material change could be coming in the team/quarterback dynamic. During his time with the Green Bay Packers, his head coaches were Mike McCarthy and Matt LaFleur. With those two leading the team, Rodgers became one of the NFL’s best signal callers on an almost yearly basis. However, his two seasons in New York with the Jets were tumultuous for a number of reasons. Most notably, his head coaches were defensive-minded, so their offensive expertise was likely not as strong as Rodgers.</p><p>That would be the same in Pittsburgh, although the Steelers’ head coach, Mike Tomlin, is way more tenured than Robert Saleh and Jeff Ulbrich were. He’s shown the ability to work with his players and empower them to be the best they can be. Once social media erupted over Carr’s injury update, Colorado’s head coach <a href="https://x.com/DeionSanders/status/1910831237788217792" rel="noopener">made a cryptic post</a> for the internet to lose its mind about.</p><p>“👀,” Sanders wrote, <a href="https://x.com/LRiddickESPN/status/1910801379410510071" rel="noopener">quoting a post</a> from Louis Riddick about the No. 9 pick — owned by the Saints — in the 2025 NFL Draft being “all kinds of interesting.”</p><p>Now, for a good chunk of the pre-draft process, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-giants/giants-rumors-shedeur-sanders-love-worst-kept-secret-nfl">New York Giants and Shedeur have had alleged interest</a> in each other. Whether it be fan-made mock drafts or actual reports of the two parties being interested in teaming up during the 2025 NFL Draft, the Giants could very well select Sanders at pick No. 3.</p><p>But, at the same time, the Colorado quarterback’s scouting profile seems to be all over the place, with some analysts claiming <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-rumors-why-several-execs-dont-view-shedeur-sanders-as-a-first-round-pick">Sanders isn’t a first-round talent</a> and others believing <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/kevin-stefanskis-eye-opening-shedeur-sanders-take-could-be-a-hint-at-browns-nfl-draft-plans">Shedeur might be drafted with the No. 2 pick</a>.</p><p>Another team that’s popped up as a potential suitor for Shedeur is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Not only is he a confusing evaluation when it comes to watching his Jackson State and Colorado tape, but having <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ncaa-football/colorado-football-news-shedeur-sanders-celebrates-fathers-involvment-nfl-draft">Deion Sanders involved with his pre-draft process</a> adds to the formula. Whether it’s fair or not, some analyzing Shedeur will have a pre-determined opinion of him because of their thoughts on his father. Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">New Orleans Saints</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>After <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/saints-news-derek-carr-alvin-kamara-out-week-16-packers">finishing out the 2024 NFL season on the bench</a> instead of the field for the New Orleans Saints, Derek Carr’s 2025 NFL season has been cast into doubt because of a shoulder injury that could require surgery.</p><p>Taking to social media to announce the shocking announcement, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport broke down the situation, noting that Carr’s situation is up in the air and could ultimately lead to a <a href="https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1910799987660951981" rel="noopener">premature end to his campaign</a> before it even starts.</p><p>“The Saints suddenly have a major QB question: Starter Derek Carr is now dealing with a shoulder injury that threatens his availability for this season, sources say. Carr is weighing options, including the possibility of surgery,” Rapoport wrote.</p><p>“Derek Carr’s 2024 season ended prematurely with a fractured non-throwing hand. Now, a shoulder injury has put his availability for 2025 in doubt.”</p><p>Initially landing in New Orleans by way of the Las Vegas Raiders on a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/saints-news-new-verge-signing-derek-carr">four-year, $150 million contract</a>, Carr only appeared in 10 games for the Saints last year, the fewest of his career.</p><p>While Carr will absolutely be on the Saints roster this fall, as he would leave a little over <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/14445/derek-carr" rel="noopener">$80 million in dead money on the cap</a>, there’s a reason why New Orleans has been linked to Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart, and every other quality quarterback in this year’s class.</p><p>With just Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener, and Ben DiNucci on the roster and the vast majority of the serviceable arms on the open market already spoken for – with Drew Locke and Joe Flacco leaving Aaron Rodgers basically alone in free agency – the Saints find themselves between a rock and a hard place in the first year of the Kellen Moore regime.</p><p>This is especially true with his backup quarterback from last season, Kenny Pickett, already traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Cleveland Browns. ESPN reports that the possibilities with the No. 9 pick <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2025/insider/story/_/id/44592479/2025-nfl-draft-latest-buzz-rumors-news-answering-questions-all-32-teams-picks" rel="noopener">include defensive line</a>, offensive line, wide receiver and quarterback.</p><p>There has been some speculation that the Saints could be interested in <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-orleans-saints/saints-rumors-albert-breer-shedeur-sanders-prediction">players like Shedeur Sanders</a> and Jaxson Dart with the No. 9 pick, and that they have done a lot of work on the quarterback class, but there is skepticism regarding them going through with a selection at that position with their first-round pick.</p><p>“Would you really want to draft a young QB early and bring him into that situation?” an NFC East scout said, via Jordan Reid of ESPN.</p><p>Reid predicts the Saints to upgrade on the offensive side of the ball, whether that be in the trenches with an offensive lineman or a pass catcher. Reid mentioned tight end Tyler Warren, but wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan fits that mold as well.</p><p>The Saints still have veteran Derek Carr under contract, but the franchise could still use a. young quarterback to build around for the long-term future. That player might not be available at the No. 9 pick, however. In the meantime, adding a player like Warren or McMillan to the offense to pair with Chris Olave would make for a great situation for any young quarterback to come into. The offensive line would still need work, but the weapons would be formidable.</p><p>It will be interesting to see who the Saints end up taking with the No. 9 pick in the draft, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-orleans-saints/saints-rumors-shedeur-sanders-buzz-heats-up-mel-kiper-mock-draft-projection">especially if Sanders</a>, Dart and all of the other quarterbacks are available at that time. While injuries contributed to the team’s struggles last season, veteran defensive end Cameron Jordan has <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/cameron-jordan-believes-saints-can-surprise-nfc-south-title-is-definitely-attainable" rel="noopener">high hopes</a> for 2025.</p><p>“Let’s be real. The Bucs have won the division the last three or four years. So until you knock off the king of the hill, that’s what you’re doing, you’re climbing a hill. But let’s just not say they’re running away with it. … They clearly won the NFC South last year, 10-7. The year before that, 9-8. The year before that, 8-9. Come on! It’s definitely attainable to go after,” Jordan said, per Nick Shook of NFL.com.</p><p>Although the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have owned the NFC South of late, the Saints topped the division from 2017-2020. And New Orleans had the same record as the Bucs in 2023 but Tampa Bay won the tiebreaker.</p><h2><b>Cameron Jordan views the Saints as contenders in 2025</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Cameron-Jordan.jpg"><figcaption>Tork Mason/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin</figcaption></figure><p>Jordan is entering his 15th season in the NFL and he would like to return to the playoffs. While he wasn’t with the team the last time the Saints won the Super Bowl, in 2009, he has reached the postseason six times with New Orleans.</p><p>The eight-time Pro Bowler is feeling optimistic about the 2025 season as the team will once again be at full strength. The Saints lost quarterback Derek Carr and wideouts Rashid Shaheed and Chris Olave to injury last year, which led to the club’s downward spiral as New Orleans was forced to start Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener under center.</p><p>The Saints are bringing Carr back for 2025 after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-orleans-saints/saints-make-massive-derek-carr-contract-move">restructuring the QB’s contract</a>. While some insiders have connected New Orleans to Shedeur Sanders or Jaxson Dart, Jordan <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-orleans-saints/why-cam-jordan-doesnt-see-saints-drafting-shedeur-sanders-or-jaxson-dart">doesn’t believe the Saints will draft a quarterback</a> in the first round. And that’s fine with him as he has a win-now mentality entering his age-36 season.</p><p>In addition to returning to the playoffs, Jordan has another goal in mind for the upcoming campaign. The former All-Pro is up to 121.5 sacks in his career. “I feel like 125, it’s always felt good. Somewhere last year, I decided that’s it. Now that I’m just 3.5 away, I’ve got to go 130. Would the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/saints-rumors-quinn-ewers-tabbed-derek-carr-replacement-in-espn-mock-draft">Saints stick with Derek Carr</a>? Or would they take a quarterback such as Jaxson Dart or Shedeur Sanders in the NFL Draft?</p><p>Veteran Saints defensive lineman Cam Jordan does not see the Saints going with either of those quarterbacks in the draft, however. Jordan <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/cameron-jordan-believes-saints-can-surprise-nfc-south-title-is-definitely-attainable" rel="noopener">cited the team’s history as his reason</a> for believing they would not go with a quarterback early in the draft.</p><p>“The Saints haven’t drafted a quarterback since Archie Manning in the first round,” Jordan said via NFL.com. “What ifs? I’m just looking at history, and what it doesn’t do is repeat on the Saints’ side for drafting first-round quarterbacks. I’ve seen it as well. Look at that, Shedeur Sanders. Look at that, Jaxson Dart. Look at that. We could possibly … I’ve done that for too long.”</p><p>Additionally, Jordan believes the Saints will be healthier at the quarterback position in 2025, something that was a problem for them last season.</p><p>“We were facing the next man up every week, including at our quarterback position, which is probably the most important position for our offense. Quarterback dishes the ball out. We’re inserting Spencer Rattler. We’re inserting Jake Haener, back to Spencer Rattler to Derek Carr. Give me a healthy Derek Carr, and I can tell you where a healthy Saints state of mind will be.”</p><p>In what could be his last season, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cam-jordan-reveals-2025-saints-decision-in-wolf-of-wall-street-style">Jordan has a specific goal</a> in mind for the 2025 campaign.</p><p>“I’ve got a goal of mind. Previously, Preston worked as an associate editor for Dot Esports and a site expert for FanSided's Union and Blue.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">New Orleans Saints</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>It is unclear when or by whom Shedeur Sanders will be drafted, but if Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest mock draft is any indication, he may remain in the black and gold he often donned at Colorado.</p><p>Sanders is projected by many to be the second quarterback taken in the upcoming NFL Draft, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/nfl-news-shedeur-sanders-cam-ward-eye-opening-draft-exercise">behind Miami’s Cam Ward</a>, and Kiper has now mocked <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-orleans-saints/saints-rumors-albert-breer-shedeur-sanders-prediction">the New Orleans Saints</a> taking the efficient yet polarizing QB in the top 10.</p><p>“If Sanders doesn’t go to the Giants, there aren’t many clear landing spots for him in the top 10 … and he could slide,” Kiper <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2025/insider/story/_/id/44534765/2025-nfl-mock-draft-mel-kiper-two-rounds-64-picks-predictions-sanders-ward-hunter" rel="noopener">wrote for</a> ESPN. “I could see a team trading up for him — maybe even the Saints, who have nine picks — but most of these rosters are already set at quarterback. This is a great outcome for New Orleans, though. I like this match a lot.</p><p>“Sanders is my top-ranked quarterback, and his accuracy jumps off the tape. He completed 74% of his throws last season despite being under constant pressure. Playing in the NFC South with good weather and a few indoor stadiums would ease any arm strength concerns. And he wouldn’t be forced to play right away. Derek Carr, 34, will be with the Saints for at least another season; Sanders could learn behind him before taking over.”</p><p>The Saints will be entering the 2025 season with a new head coach in Kellen Moore, who said after being hired that he felt “really good” about Carr, indicating he would remain as the team’s starting quarterback. The contract, however, is probably the biggest roadblock for the Saints.</p><p>If the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-orleans-saints/saints-news-how-derek-carr-contract-restructure-creates-69-2-million-question-mark-2026">Saints were to trade or release Carr</a> this year, they would owe about $80 million in dead cap either this season or over the next two. By waiting until 2026,  the dead cap penalties decrease to about $60 million, which could save the team about $50 million if he is designated as a post-June 1 release next year.</p><p>Sanders has reportedly drawn interest from multiple teams in the top 10 of the draft, including the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/nfl-rumors-insider-dumps-cold-water-on-browns-giants-link-to-shedeur-sanders">Cleveland Browns (No. 2), New York Giants (No. 3),</a> and Las Vegas Raiders (No. 6). The Colorado product started 50 games in college (for the Buffaloes, as well as Jackson State) and threw for more than 14,000 yards and scored over 150 touchdowns in four years.</p><p>The 2025 NFL Draft will begin on April 24 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Even with their pick being out of the Top 5, NFL insider Albert Breer sees Shedeur Sanders <a href="https://www.si.com/nfl/nfl-takeaways-cam-ward-emerged-no-1-draft-pick" rel="noopener">landing on Bourbon Street</a>.</p><p>“The most interesting pocket of picks for Sanders, I think, would be from Nos. 6 through 9, where you have three teams (Raiders, Jets, Saints) that don’t need to take a quarterback, but could take one,” Breer said.</p><p>“Of those three, my sense is New Orleans would be most likely to take Sanders. If he gets past that group, though, he could really slide.”</p><p>The Saints are in an interesting position because of their pick. Although they have Derek Carr, the franchise is in a bit of a limbo situation. They have talented players like Alvin Kamara and a top defense.</p><p>At the same time, besides Carr, the Saints don’t have a legitimate franchise quarterback. Spencer Rattler showed some promise, but still had a barrage of miscues and errors.</p><p>While Sanders won’t fix that problem, he’s been labeled as the <a href="https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2025-nfl-draft-rankings-quarterback" rel="noopener">best or second-best quarterback</a> in the draft. If New Orleans can snag him at its spot, that would be a dream for them.</p><h2><b>How would Shedeur Sanders fit with the Saints?</b></h2><p>Sanders wouldn’t need to start right away. It’s been evident that quarterbacks who sit behind a current, and capable starter are much more likely to succeed.</p><p>For instance, Jordan Love sat behind Aaron Rodgers for years and took off once he was a starter. The same could happen for Sanders. He doesn’t need to start at this exact moment.</p><p>He could sit behind Carr, learn an NFL offense, learn how to read NFL defenses, and truly be a sponge.</p><p>Furthermore, throwing quarterbacks into the fire has limited or capped their success. An example would be Bryce Young for the Carolina Panthers.</p><p>They immediately threw him into the fire with no weapons or no surrounding cast. As a result, he was eaten alive, and many people labeled him as a bust.</p><p>While he had a nice resurgence in the 2024 season, the same could happen to Sanders if he is thrown into the fire.</p><p>However, if he were to land with the Saints, they would likely keep the quarterback seat warm for him. Either way, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ncaa-football/colorado-footballs-shedeur-sanders-issues-confident-nfl-draft-take">Sanders is confident in his abilities</a> to be an elite quarterback.</p><p>Also, being drafted by the same organization that had Drew Brees for years, isn’t bad either. Brees was one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, putting up some insane statistics in Sean Payton’s offense. Brees finally got the opportunity to honor one of his former Saints teammates after their retirement from the NFL.</p><p>Former Saints QB Drew Brees honored Terron Armstead with <a href="https://x.com/nick_underhill/status/1908696805249786025" rel="noopener">a heartfelt speech</a> after he retired from the NFL on Saturday.</p><p>“12 amazing years in the NFL, the mainstay wherever he went,” Brees began his speech, per Nick Underhill. “I will never forget the day that he showed up in our locker room, back in 2013. He didn’t start off that year as the starter, but it became evident very quickly that not only was this guy going to be a starting left tackle for us for a very long time, but he [also] that he was going to be a leader in our locker room. He was going to be a leader in the huddle. [And] he was going to be a leader throughout the league.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/miami-dolphins/dolphins-news-terron-armstead-makes-final-decision-retirement-after-12-seasons">Armstead announced his retirement on Saturday</a>. He spent 12 years in the NFL, most of which came with the Saints. Armstead left the Saints in free agency in 2022 and joined the Dolphins. He played three seasons in Miami before retiring from the NFL.</p><p>“He’s exemplified what it takes to be a champion in this league and in the locker room,” Brees concluded.</p><h2><b>Terron Armstead was instrumental in Saints’ success during Drew Brees era</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Drew-Brees-scrambles-to-get-off-a-pass.jpg"><figcaption>© SCOTT CLAUSE / USATODAY Network via Imagn Content Services, LLC</figcaption></figure><p>Armstead was around for some of the Saints’ best moments as a franchise.</p><p>Of course he missed out on the Super Bowl in 2009, but he did everything he could during his Saints career to get New Orleans back into the big game.</p><p>Armstead joined the Saints after they selected him in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He did not start right away, but once he did the Saints had an incredible run of winning seasons.</p><p>New Orleans won four straight NFC South titles between 2017-20. During that time, the Saints won three playoff games and appeared in one NFC Championship game. There have been rumors about him going into the Top 3 to falling into the second round. Regardless, his father Deion Sanders hinted at which team may pull the trigger on drafting him.</p><p>During Colorado’s NFL Showcase on Friday, the Buffaloes head coach sat down with ESPN’s Field Yates to discuss his son Shedeur and two-way star Travis Hunter. At the end of the conversation, Deion Sanders <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDaauBCFIcM&amp;t=397s" rel="noopener">seemed to have dropped a subtle hint</a> about which team could select his son.</p><p>While being decked out in Colorado’s black and gold attire, Sanders stated, “I got to end with this, I like these colors though. Don’t you like these colors?” The statement speculates that the New Orleans Saints, who also wear black and gold, could be the team aiming to draft Shedeur Sanders.</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/nfl-draft-rumors-adam-schefter-drops-intriguing-shedeur-sanders-steelers-observation">Shedeur Sanders rumors have been running rampant</a> since the beginning of the 2024 college football season. He began the year viewed as the Top quarterback in the class but Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward has seemingly taken over that spot. But there is still speculation that Sanders could be taken by either the Cleveland Browns or New York Giants at two or three overall.</p><p>But Deion Sanders’ subtle hint suggests the Saints could be the team that drafts the former Colorado quarterback. New Orleans owns the No. 9 overall pick in the NFL Draft. The front office hasn’t made any changes to the quarterback room so far this offseason, as Derek Carr, Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener, and Ben DiNucci are listed on the roster. Tight end/quarterback Tayson Hill is also still on the roster as well.</p><p>Carr and Rattler played most of the games for the Saints last season and neither of their play was spectacular. Carr ended the season with 2,145 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, and five interceptions while throwing a 67.7% completion percentage. Meanwhile, Rattler finished with 1,317 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, and five interceptions while owning a 57.0% completion percentage.</p><p>Although Deion Sanders may have hinted at the Saints as Shedeur’s landing spot in the NFL Draft, we won’t know for sure until Thursday, April 24.
