Quarterback Patrick Mahomes went 28-39 with 331 passing yards and an interception. However, it was JuJu Smith-Schuster who set the tone for the Chiefs, logging seven receptions for 130 receiving yards. Likewise, Kareem Hunt also had 27 carries for 102 yards, with one touchdown. It’s impressive that the Chiefs have gone on this long of a run despite their offense suffering setbacks early in the season.</p><p>For instance, standout receiver <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-rashee-rice-season-likely-over-theres-catch">Rashee Rice suffered a knee injury</a> that’s likely to end his season, while Isiah Pacheco is on the injury reserve for a fractured fibula. Finally, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown had surgery on his shoulder injury, which ended his season before it could even start.</p><p>Still, the Chiefs could always rely on their defense to at least keep them in games or hold a lead. Meanwhile, their offense remains potent thanks to JuJu Smith-Schuster’s performance against the Saints.</p><p>Filling in for Rice has seemingly unlocked something in the receiver, as he logged five catches in Week 5 after making only two catches in their first four games.</p><p>“I was OK just being the leader in the room,” Smith-Schuster said, via <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/41674272/juju-smith-schuster-kareem-hunt-key-kansas-city-chiefs-win" rel="noopener">a report</a> from Adam Teicher for ESPN. “I was OK with just being the ‘rah’ guy. But I think that when the opportunity presents itself, I wanted to step up. I love the adversity. I love being down, I love the doubts, I’ve always bet on myself.”</p><p>The receiver also mentioned signing back with the Chiefs after his first stint in 2022. First, cornerback Will Harris left the game in the second quarter due to a leg injury, while quarterback <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-news-derek-carr-leaves-chiefs-game-potential-injury">Derek Carr left the game in the fourth</a> with an oblique injury. It was a total accident and unfortunate circumstance in which Rice got injured, and Mahomes <a href="https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/patrick-mahomes-when-i-saw-the-replay-i-felt-like-s-t-that-i-hit-rashee-rice" rel="noopener">spoke about</a> what he was thinking on the play.</p><p>“I didn’t notice it in the moment, I more worried about trying to get the ball,” Patrick Mahomes said, according to Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. “But obviously, was just trying to make a play and it happens whenever you’re trying to make tackles.”</p><p>Mahomes then went on to explain how he felt when he saw what happened with Rashee Rice.</p><p>“I mean, when I saw the replay, I felt like s**t that I hit Rashee,” Mahomes said, according to Simmons. “I think that’s pretty much all — I mean, I wasn’t worried about myself. I was worried about, hopefully, his injury and hoping it wasn’t as bad as it looked because I was the one that hit him.”</p><p>There was fear that Rice suffered a season-ending ACL injury, but that has not been diagnosed, so there remains optimism that he could return <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-patrick-mahomes-intense-reaction-royals-sweep-orioles">for the Chiefs</a> at some point this season. Regardless, his absence is huge for any length in time.</p><h2><b>How Chiefs will deal without Rashee Rice in the lineup</b></h2><p>For this upcoming game on Monday Night Football against the New Orleans Saints, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-patrick-mahomes-kansas-city-positive-injury-report-update">the Chiefs will be</a> without Rice. Presumably, they will be without him for longer than that as well. Mahomes spoke on how he and head coach Andy Reid are preparing to deal with that reality.</p><p>“[O]bviously, Rashee is a huge part of the game plan, you have to throw guys in there and make that timing up,” Mahomes said, according to Simmons. “Coach tried to get that done in practice — he tries to throw guys in certain situations. But obviously, there’s limited reps. But I thought the guys did a great job of accepting the challenge and being in there in those moments. … But coach Reid does a great job of getting guys ready to go throughout a week of game plan. And we had an extra day this week, so I’m sure guys will be ready to go out there and play some great football.”</p><p>Players like Travis Kelce, Xavier Worthy and others will have to step up for the Chiefs, as Rice was the top option in the offense so far this season. He was assisted by Patrick Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, in picking out the birthday gifts.</p><p>“Travis loves watches, and he talks about them a lot with Patrick,” a source told The US Sun. “He had ‘P’ and ‘M’ engraved o nteh back to make it more personal.”</p><p>Three other gifts were given that were a “firm nod to the franchise,” including a red Park Seo-Bo Louis Vuitton wool cardigan. It was given with a special edition Park Seo-Bo Keepall Bandouliere bag. In their game against the Los Angeles Chargers, he caught seven passes for 89 yards. These were both season highs for the tight end.</p><p>Previously, Kelce was on a skid. He is coming off one of his most disappointing seasons in which he caught less than 1,000 yards for the first time since 2015. Four games into the season, he has 15 catches for 158 yards.</p><p>Similarly, Mahomes is having a shaky start to the season. He has 904 yards and six touchdowns.
