The good news is the Commanders are not great on defense. Washington allows quarterbacks to complete 69.9 percent of their passes, which is the sixth-highest in the NFL. They also allow the eighth-highest average yards per completion. Carolina has a great chance to not only find the open receiver but do it for a big gain.</p><p>Washington has allowed 12 passing touchdowns, and 24.2 points per game. They do have a tendency to give up points, so Carolina has a chance to at least cover the spread. Andy Dalton does a good job avoiding sacks, and he has thrown for seven touchdowns in five games. He is a capable quarterback with a history of success. If the Commanders allow him to, Dalton will pick apart the defense in this game.</p><h2><b>Why The Commanders Could Cover The Spread/Win</b></h2><p>Jayden Daniels has solidified himself as one of the best picks in the draft. He is making a case to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award over Caleb Williams, as well. On the season, Daniels has thrown for 1,404 yards, six touchdowns, and just two interceptions. Daniels has also rushed for 322 yards and four touchdowns. he has led the Commanders to third-most points per game this season. If Daniels continues to play as he has been, the Commanders will win.</p><p>Carolina has allowed the fourth-most yards per game, the most points per game, second-most passing touchdowns, and the most rushing touchdowns in the NFL. The Panthers can not slow down anybody, no matter who they play. Washington is capable of having a big game, so I am expecting them to score at least four touchdowns in this game. With how bad the Panthers have been on defense, the Commanders should easily win.</p><p>With the Panthers’ bad defense comes their struggles on third downs. Carolina allows teams to convert third downs 47.4 percent of the time, which is the third-highest in the NFL. Teams have had 76 chances at third down, so it is not like the Panthers’ numbers are skewed by having a smaller number of attempts. Washington does not need to make the big play every down. In fact, Washington is second in the NFL in third down conversion rate. It would not be surprising to see the Commanders convert a lot of their third downs and control the time of possession.</p><h2><b>Final Panthers-Commanders Prediction &amp; Pick</b></h2><p>It is not easy to win by a touchdown in the NFL, but the Panthers are just the much worse team here. Jayden Daniels is playing great football, and the Commanders also run the ball pretty well. Because of this Washington should be able to win this game with ease at home. But with the return of one of their key draft picks, perhaps Carolina can find a spark.</p><p>The Panthers <a href="https://x.com/DNewtonespn/status/1845896910810521632" rel="noopener">plan on activating</a> running back Jonathan Brooks’ 21-day practice window within the week, via David Newton of ESPN. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/texas-football-news-jonathan-brooks-huge-injury-update-nfl-draft-approaching">Brooks has been out all season</a> as he is coming back from ACL surgery.</p><p>“He’s checked all the boxes in terms of getting back to be able to practice,” head coach Dave Canales said.</p><p>Even with Brooks being activated, there’s no guarantee he suits up in Week 7. However, Canales seems confident in his ability to return to the field. While the Panthers could take it slow with Brooks coming off such a serious injury, they’re still planning for him to be a big part of their offense.</p><p>Which is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/meet-the-panthers-2024-nfl-draft-class-grades-for-all-7-picks">why they used the No. 46 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on him</a>. Brooks spent three years at Texas, running for 1,479 yards and 16 touchdowns. His breakout season came as a senior, when he earned Second-team All-Big 12 status by running for 1,139 yards and 10 touchdowns.</p><p>Through the first six weeks of the season, Carolina ranks 22nd in the league in total rushing, averaging 111.3 yards per game on the ground. Chubba Hubbard has been the lead rusher, gaining 485 yards and scoring two touchdowns on his 86 carries. No other player has more than 100 yards rushing.</p><p>Perhaps Hubbard and Brooks will form a two-headed tandem out of the backfield. The Panthers still have Miles Sanders who they can use in the pass game. But by using a second round pick on Brooks, Carolina is expecting him to someday take over the back field.</p><p>Even if that doesn’t happen it Week 7, Jonathan Brooks is getting closer to fulfilling that prophecy. The first step will be getting back on the field after his activation. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on X, <a href="https://x.com/JFowlerESPN/status/1845226094766760439" rel="noopener">he said</a> that “Panthers wide receiver Diontae Johnson (questionable, ankle) is expected to play Sunday vs. Atlanta, per sources.”<br><br>Johnson has been the most consistent receiver and offensive weapon for the Panthers. He has <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/J/JohnDi01.htm" rel="noopener">23 receptions for 262 yards and two touchdowns</a>. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/panthers-news-carolina-looks-sharp-with-bryce-young-replacement-andy-dalton-per-hc">Panthers look more sharp since Andy Dalton</a> took over as the starting quarterback. As a result, Johnson has flourished. Before the Week 5 loss to the Chicago Bears, Johnson looked like his former Pittsburgh Steeler self. He had at least seven or more receptions, 80 or more yards, and a touchdown since Dalton became the starter.</p><p>Carolina has shown some offensive potential. The mix of Johnson, wide receiver Xavier Legette, and running back Chuba Hubbard has been solid. They scored more than 20 points in two of their previous three games. The Cincinnati Bengals are an elite offensive team while the Las Vegas Raiders are the middle of the pack. Both defenses struggled to contain Johnson on the intermediate routes. His footwork, explosiveness, and ability to create separation cannot be underestimated. </p><p>Dalton has played with receivers of Johnson’s caliber before with the Bengals. He had Tyler Boyd and Marvin Jones as elite intermediate and yards-after-the-catch route runners. Dalton knows how to put his players in positions to make plays. Also, the Falcons present an interesting matchup.</p><p>After a chaotic Thursday Night Football finish, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/falcons-news-kirk-cousns-breaks-matt-ryan-franchise-record-wild-win-vs-buccaneers">Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins made history</a>. He threw for over 500 yards and the game was an offensive slugfest from start to finish. While it won’t likely be another 500+ yard game from Cousins, it could be an offense-driven game. </p><p>The Falcons have allowed more than <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/atl/2024.htm" rel="noopener">20 points in their last four games</a>. Even though their passing defense has been solid, Panthers head coach Dave Canales can cook up some creative plays. He understands the Falcons well, after previously being the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator last season.</p><p>Some designed runs, run-pass options for Johnson, and creative looks could be a deciding factor for the Panthers. Of course, in the NFL, nothing is ever certain, where teams are often evenly matched. However, this time, it feels more likely Atlanta could cruise to a win against a Panthers team that is struggling to find its footing.</p><p>Carolina (1-4) is coming off a blowout loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 5, a 36-10 defeat that left them searching for more answers. On top of that, the Panthers are dealing with injuries across the roster, which has further hampered their performances as of late.</p><p>For the Falcons (3-2), they’re looking to build on the momentum of their dramatic victory last Thursday. They want to avoid falling back to .500 and continue strengthening their hold in the division. The Falcons’ second-year running back is hoping to break that drought in Week 6 against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Robinson’s versatility as both a runner and receiver is a big reason the Falcons drafted him 8th overall, and the new regime is continuing to emphasize his dual-threat capabilities.</p><p>Robinson has already posted multiple strong performances this season, and he’s in a great spot to do it again this week. The Panthers’ defense has struggled with tackling, ranking fifth in the league with 39 missed tackles. Robinson’s elusive style and shiftiness make him a prime candidate to exploit those issues. Expect him to hit 70 yards on the ground, add 30 through the air, and get back into the end zone in Week 6.</p><h2><b>Falcons win the pass rush battle against Panthers</b></h2><p>When the Falcons and Panthers face off on Sunday, both teams will bring two of the NFL’s least effective pass rushes to the field. The Falcons and Panthers are almost identical in their struggles, with Atlanta posting a 14.4% pressure rate and recording just five sacks, while Carolina isn’t much better with a 13.1% pressure rate and six sacks.</p><p>While it’s unlikely that this game will turn into a sack fest for either side, the Falcons could have an edge with the Panthers missing their starting center, who was lost to injury against the Bears in Week 5. This could give Atlanta a better chance to generate more pressure on veteran quarterback Andy Dalton and disrupt Carolina’s offense.</p><h2><b>Kirk Cousins throws for at least 275 yards and three touchdowns</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Kirk-Cousins.jpg"><figcaption>Mandatory Credit: Brett Davis-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Kirk Cousins set a new Falcons <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/falcons-news-kirk-cousns-breaks-matt-ryan-franchise-record-wild-win-vs-buccaneers">single-game passing yard record</a> last week against the Buccaneers with a whopping 509 yards. While it may be difficult for him to replicate that performance against the Panthers, he should still have a productive day against one of the worst passing defenses in the NFL.</p><p>The Panthers are tied for the most passing touchdowns allowed this season (11), while also surrendering a 70.8% completion rate and 8.1 yards per pass attempt. If Cousins can reach the 275-yard mark and throw for three touchdowns or more, it would be his second-highest total in both categories this season, continuing his strong 2024 campaign.</p><h2><b>Falcons beat Panthers by two scores, avoid another nail-biter</b></h2><p>All five of the Falcons’ games this season have been decided by one score or less, coming down to the final moments. Each of those games could have gone either way, leaving Atlanta with a record anywhere between 5-0 or 0-5. Instead, they <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/falcons-news-stats-show-improbability-all-3-falcons-wins-this-season">stand at 3-2</a>, a testament to their resiliency, but it’s clear they don’t want to be in these tight situations every week.</p><p>The Falcons should by no means underestimate the Panthers on Sunday. Even though Carolina is struggling, they still have NFL-level talent on the roster. However, if the Falcons’ offense is starting to hit its stride, facing a Panthers defense that is both underperforming and banged up could be the perfect opportunity to build on that progress.</p><p>In Week 6, during only their second road game of the season, Atlanta will aim to start strong and maintain control throughout. The first-year coach has already replaced his starting quarterback, Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall pick in last year’s NFL Draft, with veteran Andy Dalton.</p><p>Dalton looks to be a short answer to a long problem. He looked magnificent in his first start of the season against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3. The 36-year-old went 26-for-37 for 319 yards with three touchdowns in the Panthers’ 36-22 win, their only one of the season thus far.</p><p>To no one’s surprise, the overreactions came aplenty, with some believing that Dalton could be the problem solver to salvage this season for the Panthers. However, after just three games, that doesn’t seem to be the case.</p><p>The competition, for one, has gotten tougher, while the points scored have continued to decrease week by week. Against the Cincinnati Bengals, Dalton was 25-for-40 with 220 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in a 34-24 loss. But against a much tougher Bears defense on Sunday, Dalton’s true colors showed.</p><p>The 14-year veteran completed just 18-of-28 pass attempts for 136 yards, with no touchdowns and one interception, while taking three sacks in an absolute pounding by Chicago, 36-10. Ironically, it was Caleb Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft—thanks to the Panthers trading the top pick the year before to select Young—who led the Bears to victory.</p><p>That’s where the Panthers stand—caught in a maze of poor decisions. Canales, who hopes not to become the fourth coach fired since 2018 by owner David Tepper, now has to find solutions.</p><p>Year 1’s are almost never easy for any head coach, especially a rookie head coach. But this season isn’t likely to get any easier for Canales. So, why not make the move back to Young?</p><h2><b>The Bryce Young Dilemma: to start or not to start?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/bryce-young.jpg"><figcaption>Daniel Bartel-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>First, it’s worth noting that Canales has already named Dalton the starting quarterback against the 3-2 Atlanta Falcons this Sunday, <a href="https://x.com/Sheena_Marie3/status/1843026913180414272" rel="noopener">per</a> Panthers beat writer Sheena Quick. That question was bound to be asked after Dalton’s performance against the Bears, where he was eventually <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/panthers-news-dave-canales-bryce-young-revelation-outrage">replaced in the final minutes by Young</a>. The former Alabama quarterback went 4-for-7 for 58 yards.</p><p>Dalton is the safe answer for Canales, at least for now. With the veteran, he knows what to expect. And at 1-4, there are still potential wins on the table, as the season isn’t a total wash just yet. There’s a fear that going back to Young so soon could be seen as throwing in the towel on the season. After all, the belief as to why Canales so abruptly benched Young in favor of Dalton in the first place was to save the season from getting out of control.</p><p>That didn’t change the face that Canales surprised many by benching Young after just two starts this season and <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/Y/YounBr01.htm" rel="noopener">18 overall in his career</a>. If he returns to Young after three starts—four with the upcoming one against Atlanta—it could reveal an uncertain demeanor in the first-year head coach.</p><p>No doubt Canales is feeling the pressure, much like previous Panthers coaches. Frank Reich, fired after just 11 games last season, is a recent reminder of how quickly things can go south. How Canales handles his quarterback situation will greatly reflect on his decision-making abilities as a head coach.</p><h2><b>More than just a quarterback issue</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Panthers-Andy-Dalton-fumbling-football-against-Bears.jpg"><figcaption>© Daniel Bartel-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>It’s not as if quarterback is the only problem Canales needs to solve at this point in the season. Besides the lack of playmakers, with veteran Adam Thielen sidelined with a hamstring injury, the offense has now <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/panthers-news-carolina-dealt-big-blow-key-offensive-lineman-sustains-season-ending-injury">lost its starting center, Austin Corbett</a>, for the season with a torn biceps.</p><p>The Panthers as a whole are ravaged by injuries, particularly on defense. Defensive end Derrick Brown is out for the season, Shaq Thompson is on injured reserve, and Josey Jewell is still dealing with multiple injuries.</p><p>At some point, Canales probably goes back to Young, if for no other reason than to see what the he’s made of and if he has improved. But is that even possible with this beat-up roster? Without their starting center, Young would be especially vulnerable.</p><p>There are a lot of problems going on in Carolina right now that are simply unsolvable. The Chicago Bears are the only NFL franchise that has never had a 4,000 yard passer, nor a quarterback who has thrown for 30 touchdowns in a season. In fact, more quarterbacks (9) have thrown for 20 or more interceptions in a single-season than there have been quarterbacks who have thrown for 20 or more touchdowns (8).</p><p>You get the idea, right? I don’t need to keep going, do I?</p><p>Well, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/the-chicago-bears-quarterback-rundown-caleb-williams-savior">Caleb Williams represents something of a savior</a> to folks in the Windy City. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/meet-caleb-williams-the-bears-no-1-pick-in-2024-nfl-draft">1st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft</a> arrived in Chicago with a tremendous amount of fanfare and even greater expectations, and after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-news-caleb-williams-frustration-chicago-loss-colts">a few rough outings to begin his pro career</a>, the 21-year-old whose nickname is “Superman” is beginning to live up to that billing. It turns out, Williams’ Kryptonite may have just been inexperience.</p><p>In just his fifth NFL start, Caleb Williams carved up the Carolina Panthers defense, throwing for 304 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 36-10 win. The Bears are now a perfect 3-0 at home this season, and have won eight straight at Soldier Field. That’s all fine and good, and a sign that this <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/its-time-to-give-ryan-poles-his-flowers-for-rebuilding-the-chicago-bears">franchise which has undergone a multi-year rebuild</a> is finally turning a corner, but it’s Caleb Williams who is the story here.</p><p>With a second 300-yard game in a span of three weeks, Caleb Williams has set a Bears record, becoming the <a href="https://bearswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/bears/2024/10/07/bears-rookie-caleb-williams-already-making-history-in-chicago/75549954007/" rel="noopener">only rookie in franchise history</a> to have a pair of 300 yard games, per Preston Comer of Bears Wire. It’s hopefully the first of many team records that Williams will set both this year and throughout his career.</p><h2><b>Caleb Williams, Bears offense continues to improve week-by-week </b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Caleb-Williams-walks-off-the-field-after-a-win.jpg?w=1024"><figcaption>© David Banks-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Caleb Williams’ progression won’t continue to be linear, as it has been through five weeks. It’s not only unprecedented, but also impossible. A collision with the rookie wall is sure to come. But even as these subpar games start to pop up, everyone within the Bears organization knows that the kid they used the 1st overall pick on <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/recap/_/gameId/401671872" rel="noopener">is up for the challenge</a>.</p><p>“He’s just learning and growing and you can see that in these games that we’ve had,” Bears coach Matt Eberflus said after the game. “He knows that. So he’s just got to level up, keep leveling up and every time we’ve challenged him he’s done that ever since the summer.”</p><p>The greatest beneficiary of Williams’ rapid development has been DJ Moore, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-news-dj-moore-chicago-contract-extension">who after signing the richest contract in Bears history in the offseason</a>, got off to a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-news-dj-moore-breaks-silence-viral-outburst-vs-texans">slow and frustrating start in the 2024 season</a>. But against his former team, which <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-news-caleb-williams-dj-moore-torching-panthers-salt-wound">parted ways with the wideout in the deal that ultimately landed the Bears Caleb Williams as well</a>, Moore had his best game of the year, hauling in five receptions for 105 yards and two touchdowns.</p><p>“It took five weeks to get the down-the-field pass game going,” DJ Moore said after the win. “When it hits, it hits, and it was good today.”</p><p>It was really good, and now the Bears will have the opportunity to showcase this suddenly explosive offense in London, with a “home game” against the Jacksonville Jaguars coming up next Sunday. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/jaguars-overreactions-first-win-of-season-vs-colts">Jacksonville earned their first win of the season on Sunday afternoon</a>, but will enter the game in London against Chicago as the 30th-ranked scoring defense in the league. The final minutes of the Carolina Panthers’ 36-10 defeat to the Chicago Bears provided the first glimpse of Young on the field since his benching three weeks ago.</p><p>In the closing minutes of Sunday’s loss to the Bears, Canales assumed the role of quarterback protector. Interestingly, the quarterback he safeguarded wasn’t last year’s No. 1 pick, Bryce Young, but rather the 36-year-old veteran, Andy Dalton, who had taken over as the starter in Week 3.</p><p>With two key offensive linemen sidelined due to injuries and the Panthers trailing by four scores, Canales <a href="https://www.twitter.com/josephperson/status/1843026591913324620" rel="noopener">explained that his primary concern</a> wasn’t giving Young an opportunity to regain confidence. And he did a fantastic job, playing with energy, extending plays, finding some completions down the field — which is all fantastic,” said the Panthers head coach.</p><p>Against the Bears’ (3-2) prevent defense, which included several second-team players, Young went 4-for-7, throwing for 58 yards. His return to the field featured a cool off-platform pass to Miles Sanders for a 27-yard gain, marking his first action since the Week 2 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.</p><p>“It’s a hard situation. At that point it was just like, OK, with the different things happening on the offensive line, it was something where I wanted to get Andy out of there and just give Bryce an opportunity to continue some football in there while we had time,” Dave Canales remarked.</p><p>Roughly 25 minutes later, Canales confirmed that Andy Dalton would continue as the starting quarterback.</p><h2><b>Bryce Young performing under expectations for the Panthers</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Dave-Canales-talking-to-Bryce-Young-and-Andy-Dalton.jpg"><figcaption>Stephen Lew-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Canales made the appropriate decision to bench Young at that time. The 23-year-old appeared to be a shadow of his Heisman-winning self, looking overwhelmed and often leaving clean pockets without fully progressing through his routes.</p><p>Watching Bears rookie quarterback <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-news-caleb-williams-dj-moore-torching-panthers-salt-wound">Caleb Williams repeatedly make plays, especially with DJ Moore</a>, served as a stark reminder of how much the Panthers sacrificed to acquire Young with the top overall pick.</p><p>The Panthers’ offense had significantly improved with Dalton at the helm until Sunday, when their downfield passing game disappeared, and Dalton threw an interception, contributing to one of the team’s three turnovers.</p><p>When Canales benched Young, he did not present it as a chance for Young to recalibrate by observing Dalton manage the offense. Having joined the team after Scott Fitterer and Dan Morgan, the former assistant general manager, traded away two first-round picks, two second-round picks, and DJ Moore for the top pick, Canales doesn’t have a significant stake in Young’s growth.</p><p>However, with injuries piling up on both sides of the field, the Panthers can expect more games like Sunday, where they initially scored but then allowed the Bears to score 30 unanswered points for a decisive victory. It’s not as if Dalton is going to spearhead a playoff run.</p><p>The Panthers struggled to find any rhythm on offense in Week 5, whether due to their own performance or Chicago’s defense. They finished the game with only 292 total yards. As a result, Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn and Chicago offensive tackle Matt Pryor each earned an ejection. After the game, Panthers head coach Dave Canales told the media <a href="https://x.com/DNewtonespn/status/1843027569509294511" rel="noopener">what he thought about the situation</a> with his star defender.</p><p>“We just have to continue to control our emotions,” Canales told reporters after the game. “Emotions run high right there and [Horn] was instigated but he can’t retaliate. In addition of the frustration related to the loss and the losing season, the Panthers could have looked a lot more like this up-and-coming Bears team in 2024 if not for what currently looks like one of the worst trades of all time.</p><h2><b>The Panthers and Bears will forever be linked</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Bryce-Young-1.jpg"><figcaption>Kirby Lee-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>With the first pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Bears seemingly fleeced the Panthers, getting them to trade up for the right to draft Alabama quarterback Bryce Young. For this “honor,” the Panthers gave up two first, a second, and a third-round pick, plus wide receiver D.J. Moore to go get Young.</p><p>A year and a half later, that trade looks like an abject disaster.</p><p>As of the Panthers-Bears Week 5 game, Young is benched, Carolina’s 2024 first-round pick was No. 1 overall and Cghaicgo used it to draft Caleb Williams, and D.J. Moore is still a top NFL pass-catcher, grabbing five balls for 105 yards and two touchdowns against his old team on Sunday.</p><p>These two franchises will now forever be linked because of this trade, and with how its going for each right now, it’s no wonder that Jaycee Horn lost his cool.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Players on both sides then formed a mob, which is when the punches flew. The Bears moved to 3-2 as the final score held at 36-10.</p><p>Carolina struck first on a 38-yard Chuba Hubbard touchdown run. However, Chicago responded by scoring 27 unanswered points. D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson both had touchdown runs while DJ Moore had a pair of touchdown grabs. Both teams alternated field goals in the third quarter, but Johnson’s second touchdown but the final nail in the Panthers’ coffin.</p><p>When there isn’t a brawl at Soldier Field, all eyes will be on rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. He put up an impressive performance against the Panthers, completing 20-of-29 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns. It marked his second-straight game without an interception and the second two+ touchdown pass performance of his young career.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/5-bears-overreactions-impressive-win-rams">Bears have now won two straight games</a> after taking down the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4. However, Matt Eberflus will certainly speak to his team about poise heading into Week 6. While it happened at the end of a surefire team, Chicago doesn’t want to risk injury or suspensions from an on-field fight.</p><p>Both teams are hoping they walk away unscathed, with the final score doing enough damage. The Bears will move on to face the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6 while the Panthers will try to bounce back against the Atlanta Falcons. However, everything changed when they took on the Chicago Bears in Week 5.</p><p>Losing 36-10, the Panthers<a href="https://x.com/NFLonFOX/status/1843018937660735634" rel="noopener"> brought in backup quarterback</a> Bryce Young late in the fourth quarter. But after a shaky rookie season and a slow start to the 2024 campaign, head coach <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/panthers-news-dave-canales-unsurprising-andy-dalton-decision">Dave Canales turned to Andy Dalton</a>. Young went 0-2 as a starter, completing just 55.4 percent of his passes for 245 scoreless yards and three interceptions.</p><p>Dalton was named the starter in Week 3 and has held the role ever since. Entering the week he had completed 65.4 of his passes for 539 yards, five touchdowns and an interception. Against the Bears however, Dalton completed 18-of-28 passes for 136 scoreless yards and an interception.</p><p>Whether it was Carolina’s offense or Chicago’s defense, the Panthers couldn’t get anything going with the ball in Week 5. They ended the game with just 292 yards of total offense. But in a blowout, it doesn’t seem like Canales is ready to make a quick change.</p><p>Andy Dalton had a bad game, but so did everyone on the Panthers’ offense. Canales confirmed that he just wanted to get Young <a href="https://x.com/Sheena_Marie3/status/1843026865713512462" rel="noopener">some extra reps</a>. Furthermore, he didn’t want Dalton on the field with injuries across the offensive line. He went on to say that there will be <a href="https://x.com/Sheena_Marie3/status/1843026913180414272" rel="noopener">no quarterback change</a> in Week 6, via Sheena Quick of Fox Sports Radio1340.</p><p>But the Panthers and Canales are looking for a spark offensively. Dalton couldn’t provide it in Week 5, perhaps making his leash a bit shorter entering their next matchup.
