It’s the kind of depth that most general managers and coaches dream of. The flip side is it forces front offices to start thinking of tough decisions. Tampa, of course, isn’t in rebuild mode. This is a team gearing up for a serious playoff push with a loaded offense and a veteran quarterback who found his groove.</p><p>That said, there is one major question mark: what happens to the talented players who might not have a clear path to touches? One name stands out as the most obvious trade candidate: running back Rachaad White.</p><h2><b>A Crowded Offense Returns</b></h2><p>The 2025 Buccaneers return with an embarrassment of riches on offense. They brought back every single player who caught a pass or took a handoff last season. The team retained essentially 100 percent of their 7,000+ scrimmage yards. That continuity alone is impressive, but it actually undersells <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/team/depth/_/name/tb">how deep this roster is</a>.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Buccaneers-news-Chris-Godwin-explains-why-he-missed-Baker-Mayfield_s-heave-on-nearly-miraculous-Hail-Mary-play.jpeg"></figure><p>Chris Godwin was on pace for nearly 1,400 receiving yards before a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/buccaneers-news-chris-godwin-gets-surprise-update-after-ankle-surgery">season-ending ankle injury</a>. He is back on a new three-year, $66 million deal. In his absence, rookie Jalen McMillan and tight end Cade Otton stepped up admirably. Neither will be heavily relied on in 2025 thanks to the arrival of first-round pick Emeka Egbuka. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/buccaneers-news-baker-mayfield-emeka-egbuka-endorsement-fire-up-fans">The highly touted rookie</a> gives Tampa insurance at wideout and even more flexibility in how they deploy their weapons.</p><p>Egbuka’s addition raised an eyebrow about Mike Evans’ future. Evans is entering the final year of his two-year deal. He started slow in 2024 but finished strong. He eclipsed 1,000 yards for the 11th straight year and ranked top-five in ESPN’s receiver score. Still, Baker Mayfield’s contract is set to spike, and Godwin is locked in long-term. As such, Egbuka could offer Tampa leverage in any tough negotiations <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/buccaneers-news-mike-evans-comments-fire-up-fans">with their franchise icon</a>.</p><p>The Bucs don’t need Egbuka to be an instant star or Godwin to be 100 percent right away. They’re built to withstand injuries and rotate talent. That makes Tampa one of the NFL’s deepest, most versatile offenses entering training camp. It also puts pressure on the front office to maximize the value of any surplus.</p><p>Here we’ll try to look at the obvious Tampa Bay Buccaneers trade candidate entering 2025 NFL training camp.</p><h2><b>The Obvious Trade Chip</b></h2><p>With so many weapons on this team, Rachaad White might be the one left standing with no real opportunity in sight. He has said that he intends to make the most of the final year of his rookie contract.</p><p>White is saying all the right things. In fairness, his 2024 production backs up his confidence. He averaged a career-high 4.3 yards per carry and topped 1,000 total yards. However, the reality is that he ceded lead-back duties to rookie Bucky Irving. The latter looked like a long-term answer at the position. Irving racked up over 1,100 yards on the ground and averaged 5.4 yards per carry. The Buccaneers can talk all they want about rotational backfields and depth. Still, actions speak louder than words. Their actions suggest that Irving is now the engine.</p><p>With that, White becomes the classic case of a “good player in the wrong place at the wrong time.” He’s too valuable to simply bury on the depth chart. That said, he is not essential enough to justify the carries that would slow down Irving’s development. The final year of a rookie contract also means the clock is ticking.</p><h2><b>Trade Now, Not Later</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Buccaneers-news-Rachaad-White-the-victim-of-alleged-extortion-attempt.jpg"></figure><p>White is not going to bring back a first- or even second-round pick. However, he doesn’t need to. For teams dealing with backfield injuries during camp or preseason, he could be the perfect plug-and-play option. He runs with purpose, catches passes well, and doesn’t need to be coached up on the basics of a professional offense. Dealing White now avoids the risk of losing him for nothing in 2026. It would also give the front office some capital to address other roster needs—either now or at the deadline.</p><p>It’s not personal. It’s just business. And in this case, it’s obvious.</p><h2><b>Clear Depth, Clear Choice</b></h2><p>The Buccaneers have one of the most enviable offensive arsenals in the NFL heading into the 2025 season. With such riches comes the responsibility to make hard choices. Trading Rachaad White is one of them. It’s not a knock on his talent or production. It’s a reflection of how Tampa’s priorities are shifting with Bucky Irving emerging as the clear lead back.</p><p>White deserves a bigger role than what’s likely available in this crowded backfield. Tampa Bay doesn’t need to wait for a perfect offer. It just needs the right one from a team in need. And when that opportunity arrives, expect White to be the first domino to fall. Tampa’s ownership rewarded the team’s head coach and general manager after multiple seasons of sustained success.</p><p>The Buccaneers have <a href="https://x.com/MikeGarafolo/status/1938209387278926164" rel="noopener">agreed to multi-year contract extensions</a> for both Todd Bowles and Jason Licht, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.</p><p>Tampa Bay has won three straight NFC South division titles under the leadership of Bowles and Licht. The Buccaneers are also the only NFC team to reach the playoffs every season over the last five years.</p><p>The NFC South may not be the toughest division in the NFL, but dominating a division for that long is still an achievement. It is also important to note the variety of teams the Buccaneers have won the division with.</p><p>Licht was the general manager during the Tom Brady years in Tampa. He is not only responsible for <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/buccaneers-news-tom-brady-wins-7th-super-bowl-outplays-patrick-mahomes-and-chiefs">building a championship team around Brady</a>, but also quickly rebuilding the team after Brady’s retirement. He even has the equivalent of a coaching tree, mentoring other front office figures who eventually land general manager jobs themselves. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/las-vegas-raiders/raiders-hire-broncos-scout-as-assistant-gm-under-john-spytek">John Spytek, the general manager of the Raiders</a>, is the best example.</p><p>Meanwhile, Todd Bowles has been an excellent head coach over the past three seasons. Egbuka was a vital part of the Ohio State football team last season, that won a College Football Playoff national championship. The wideout joins a Tampa Bay team looking to return to the playoffs in 2025, and win games in the postseason.</p><p>Egbuka finished his final season of college football with 1,011 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. He had two 1,000-yard receiving seasons while playing for the Buckeyes.</p><p>Tampa Bay lost in last year’s NFC Playoffs to the Washington Commanders in a Wild Card game.</p><h2><b>Buccaneers’ Baker Mayfield is bonding with Emeka Egbuka</b></h2><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/buccaneers-news-gm-baker-mayfield-reaction-emeka-egbuka-pick">Mayfield has gone out of his way this offseason to welcome Egbuka</a>. The Buccaneers quarterback offered to pick up Egbuka at the airport when he arrived in Tampa after the draft.</p><p>Mayfield has been looking for some more weapons in the passing game. It comes in the form of veteran help up front.</p><p>If Tampa wants to protect Baker Mayfield and preserve its momentum from last year’s playoff run, the perfect pre-camp addition is clear: sign free agent guard Dalton Risner.</p><h2><b>Strong, Balanced Offseason</b></h2><p>It’s fairly easy to like what the Buccaneers did this offseason. General manager Jason Licht once again prioritized continuity. They <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/buccaneers-news-chris-godwin-murky-week-1-injury-prediction-new-contract">retained core veterans like wideout</a> Chris Godwin and linebacker Lavonte David. With Godwin still recovering from a season-ending ankle injury, Licht turned to the draft to bolster the receiving corps, selecting Emeka Egbuka in the first round. However, he would raise the floor of the position group and provide insurance if injuries or inconsistency strike again.</p><p>With another straight playoff appearance on the table and Super Bowl ambitions slowly resurfacing, this is not the time to rely on “maybe” at a premium position. Tampa doesn’t need a splash. They need a smart, strategic addition. Risner checks every box: proven, still available, and fits a need.</p><h2><b>Don’t Leave the Door Ajar</b></h2><p>Jason Licht has earned the benefit of the doubt, but the best GMs know how to finish strong. McCollum might have had the better season in 2025, but Dean has been playing at a higher level for much longer. Now entering his seventh season with the league, the Bucs are the only team that the former Auburn Tiger has known in the NFL. He’s respected in the locker room and is one of the leaders of the defense.</p><p>However, it has come time to question whether he’s worth the money he makes. He’s entering the third year of a four-season contract in which <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/29130/jamel-dean" rel="noopener">his cap hit is $13 million.</a> He’s also never played a full season, playing in only 12 games last year. Furthermore, he does have an out in his contract. If Morrison or Parrish can step up and challenge his spot, would Licht and Bowles want to keep Dean around to ensure their depth stays solid? Or would they try and recoup more cap space to use in the future? At the moment, the future is just a bit cloudy for Dean. That could change quickly based on just how much the rookies impress moving forward.</p><h2><b>Anthony Nelson’s Buccaneers role threated by draft picks</b></h2><p>Nelson is a veteran edge rusher more known for his ability to play the run. He’s a solid, experienced defender who plays a regular role in Bowles’ defensive line rotation. Licht has already resigned him in free agency once before, and he’s <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/29155/anthony-nelson" rel="noopener">scheduled to be a free agent</a> once again next year.</p><p>However, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/buccaneers-news-jason-licht-truth-bomb-potential-2025-nfl-draft-trades">Licht also doubled up at</a> edge rusher in the draft. The longtime Bucs GM selected Central Arkansas’ David Walker and SMU’s Elijah Roberts in the fourth and fifth rounds back in April. For the past couple of seasons, Tampa Bay’s defense hasn’t had the same ferocious pass rush that it used to possess. Reddick was brought in to help with that. So were Walker and Roberts. Would either rookie force Nelson out before his contract expires? The majority of this Bucs roster was one built by the draft. The biggest external addition he’s made since Tom Brady retired was his successor at quarterback, Baker Mayfield. The receiving core of Evans, Godwin and McMillan were all taken in the first three rounds of their respective draft classes. McMillan’s rookie season was a successful one, particularly after his late season mini breakout.</p><p>Trey Palmer, unfortunately, does not fit the bill of a traditional Licht hit. He’s entering his third season in the league, and found himself fall down the depth chart during a rocky 2024 campaign. Now, with Egbuka on board, the 2023 6th round pick is really going to have to prove himself in order to get snaps. Despite the rash of injuries at receiver last year, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ncaa-football/nebraska-football-news-cornhuskers-star-trey-palmer-makes-huge-nfl-draft-decision">Palmer regressed when given more</a> opportunities. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Egbuka seize hold of the third or fourth spot wideout spot. If that happens, don’t be surprised to see Licht try and move Palmer for a late round pick. This version is loud, confident, ultra-competitive, and possibly deeper than it’s ever been during Todd Bowles’ tenure.</p><p>With returning veterans, key offseason additions, and some rookies already making serious waves, there’s a palpable energy in Tampa Bay. It might just be the difference between another average season and a legitimate Super Bowl run. That is something this team has in spades. Nearly every major contributor from 2024 is back, and the familiarity shows. Anthony Walker Jr, a veteran with 571 career tackles and a Swiss-army knife skillset, has looked sharp and physical. However, they fell again in the playoffs, losing to the Washington Commanders in the NFC Wild Card Round.</p><p>Now, they look to bounce back, but some might not be around to enjoy the season. Three players on the Buccaneers roster are in danger of getting cut after the 2025 minicamp concludes, and must perform well to stay on the team.</p><p>There are a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/tampa-bay-buccaneers-underrated-sleepers-who-could-break-out-2025-nfl-season">few Buccaneers players who can surprise</a> this season. Yet, there are also a few who might struggle to make the roster. For them to make it, they must put in the work and beat out several others who are competing for the same spot. Alas, they must perform to the best of their abilities and prove to the coaching staff that they can contribute to the Bucs’ Super Bowl goal.</p><p>NFL minicamp is all about showing teams what you’re worth. Yet, some cannot do it. These three players on the Buccaneers roster are in danger of not being around when the 2025 season starts.</p><h2><b>Jamel Dean cannot overcome the minicamp battle</b></h2><p>Jamel Dean was a third-round draft pick in 2019. However, he has had issues maintaining his health. Considering that the Buccaneers’ secondary has been inconsistent, Dean would have to be really bad not to make the Buccaneers roster. Yet, there is a distinct possibility it happens.</p><p>It was just two years ago that the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/buccaneers-jamel-dean-has-words-for-ohio-state-football-after-tampa-bay-deal">Buccaneers re-signed Dean to a new contract</a>. Unfortunately, injuries have hampered him. Dean played 12 games last season and <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/D/DeanJa00.htm" rel="noopener">made 59 tackles and seven pass deflections</a>. Overall, he has not lived up to his contract since signing the extension. The fact that he has not played much puts his spot in danger. The Buccaneers also used two draft picks on the secondary, which is a telling sign of the direction they might take.</p><p>Dean may likely make the team, but it is not a guarantee at this point. The word in Tampa Bay is that Todd Bowles is demanding more takeaways from the defense, specifically the secondary, which had just seven last season. Dean needs to separate himself from the pack, or else he might not be on the Buccaneers roster when the season begins.</p><h2><b>Deion Jones cannot reclaim his NFL stardom</b></h2><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/buccaneers-news-tampa-bay-signs-former-pro-bowler-practice-squad">Bucs signed Deion Jones to the practice squad</a> last season. Notably, the former 2016 second-round draft pick was once a Pro Bowler. But time has hindered him, and Jones has also bounced around. The Buccaneers are his third team in three seasons, and he hopes to stick around.</p><p>Jones was once a beast, including three interceptions, two of which were pick-sixes, in his rookie season with the Atlanta Falcons. Additionally, he had three more picks in his second season. His next three seasons were decent, and Jones was still contributing.</p><p>The decline began in 2021, and he was no longer the same player he had been in his rookie season. Then, the Falcons cut him, and Jones bounced to the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers before the Bucs signed him.</p><p>For Jones to make the Buccaneers roster, he has to beat out Chris Brasell and SirVocea Dennis. Of course, Lavonte David, Haason Reddick, and Anthony Walker Jr. are the entrenched starters while Jones is a rotational piece. However, he still needs to put in a great effort to win the brass over at the Buccaneers minicamp.</p><h2><b>No room for Antonio Grier Jr. on the Buccaneers roster</b></h2><p>The battle for the secondary linebacker spots at Buccaneers minicamp is among the best. As noted above, the Bucs have entrenched starters. They also have some solid secondary pieces, including a former Pro Bowler (noted above), competing. Therefore, it will be challenging for Antonio Grier Jr. to make the Buccaneers roster.</p><p>Grier was an undrafted player out of Arkansas in 2024. Initially, he started his NFL career on the practice squad. The Bucs promoted him to the main roster after Dennis sustained an injury. Despite the promotion, he only played on special teams and did not make a notable difference on the defensive side of the football. That said, the Bucs waived him twice over the final months of the 2024 season before re-signing him again in January 2025.</p><p>There is no guarantee that Grier makes the Buccaneers roster. Currently, he is on an uphill climb, as he is battling former Pro Bowlers and promising younger players. For Grier to make the team, he needs to demonstrate to Bowles and the team that he can produce on defense and make a valuable contribution. If he cannot, then Grier will likely not be on this roster when the season is underway.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Bucs scored a major victory by <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/buccaneers-news-chris-godwin-leaves-20-million-table-66-million-contract">re-signing Godwin on a $66 million deal</a>, securing the wideout amid interest from multiple teams around the league. But with both veteran pass catchers set to return this season, the Buccaneers surprised insiders by using their first-round pick in the 2025 draft on yet another receiver.</p><p>Tampa Bay selected Emeka Egbuka 19th overall in the draft. And while the addition of another wideout may seem like overkill to some, Evans is a <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/mike-evans-on-emeka-egbuka-looks-like-a-running-back-but-catches-like-chris-godwin" rel="noopener">fan of the decision</a> – especially after practicing with the former Ohio State standout.</p><p>“I didn’t [expect to draft a receiver] either, but you know [general manager] Jason [Licht] has always been great in drafts, and we wanted to pick the best players available, and from what I’ve seen so far, he was definitely the best player available… So, looking forward to a great year for him, Emeka,” Evans said, per Kevin Patra of NFL.com.</p><p>The 11-year veteran has been particularly intrigued by Egbuka’s ability with the ball in his hands. “He looks like a running back, but I mean, he catches like Chris Godwin… He’s a very polished, very well-rounded player,” Evans added.</p><h2><b>Can first-round WR Emeka Egbuka elevate the Buccaneers’ passing game?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Emeka-Egbuka.jpg"><figcaption>Adam Cairns/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While it appears the Buccaneers have an embarrassment of riches at the position, with second-year player Jalen McMillan, veteran WR Sterling Shepard and the speedy Trey Palmer for depth, there are certain caveats. Still, if Evans can continue to dominate in his age-32 season, and Godwin returns to full health, and Egbuka hits the ground running in the pros, Tampa Bay’s passing offense could actually improve in 2025 after ranking third in the league last season.</p><p>Quarterback Baker Mayfield enjoyed a career year in 2024 despite facing obstacles in the passing game. A hamstring injury forced Evans to miss time and nearly prevented him from achieving a historic feat. But despite being sidelined for three games, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/buccaneers-news-mike-evans-extends-1000-yard-record">Evans extended his streak of 1,000-yard receiving seasons</a>. He now has 11 straight 1,000-yard campaigns, tying Jerry Rice for the most all-time. Evans has reached 1,000 receiving yards in every season since entering the league as the seventh overall pick in 2014.</p><p>While Evans was able to return to the field after his hamstring issue, Godwin was not so lucky. The Buccaneers lost the eight-year wideout to a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/buccaneers-news-baker-mayfield-admission-chris-godwin-brutal-injury">gruesome season-ending injury</a>. Godwin dislocated his ankle and required surgery. Ultimately he missed 10 games in 2024.</p><p>Fortunately for the Buccaneers, he’ll be back with Tampa Bay for his ninth NFL season. And Diaby’s high-pressure rate means positive regression is on the way. Note that Reddick coule be potentially slow to integrate due to OTA absences and past health concerns. As such, Diaby could find himself in a more prominent role earlier than expected. His versatility and strong burst make him an ideal fit in Bowles’ system.</p><p>Diaby is still refining his hand technique and counter moves, but the building blocks are there. Don’t be surprised if he ends 2025 with double-digit sacks and a much larger spotlight.</p><h2><b>2. DT Calijah Kancey: Interior Disruptor with Rare Upside</b></h2><p>Calijah Kancey entered the NFL with questions about his size but few doubts about his explosiveness. At just 6’0 and around 280 pounds, the Pitt product was considered undersized for an NFL defensive tackle. Yet two seasons in, Kancey is turning that perceived weakness into a strength. He has shown signs he might be the next great interior pass rusher in Tampa Bay.</p><p>Kancey notched 7.5 sacks in just 12 games last season. He flashed elite get-off and twitchy athleticism that overwhelmed slower interior linemen. When healthy, he’s nearly unblockable in one-on-one situations. Kancey’s upside is as valuable as it is unique.</p><p>The biggest hurdle? Health. Kancey missed several games in each of his first two seasons, raising durability concerns. However, if the Buccaneers can manage his snap count and keep him on the field for 15+ games, they may finally have an interior game-wrecker on their hands.
