Fields has established himself as one of the best running quarterbacks in recent memory, but his growth will be determined by how accurate he can be when throwing to receivers like D.J. The former Packers tight end has been <a href="https://twitter.com/BearsPR/status/1700562844461269085" rel="noopener">listed as questionable</a> for the NFC North confrontation.</p><p>Tonyan had not been listed with any injury designation during the week leading up to the game, so to get listed 24 hours before the meeting with the Packers is fairly disturbing.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/packers-vs-bears-prediction-odds-pick-how-to-watch-nfl-week-1-game" rel="noopener">The Bears</a> are counting on Tonyan and Cole Kmet to give the Bears an excellent combination at the tight end position. Fields has had some issues in the past with his short- and medium-range passing, and his tight ends are supposed to help him in that area as both have demonstrated good hands in the past.</p><p>Robert Tonyan was targeted 67 times last year while catching passes from Aaron Rodgers last year, and he caught 53 passes for 470 yards and two touchdowns. Tonyan had his best season in 2021 when he caught 52 passes for 586 yards and 11 touchdowns.</p><p>Fields ran for 1,143 yards and eight touchdowns a year ago while averaging 7.1 yards per carry. However, he had  just a 17-11 TD-to-interception ratio, and more is expected this year.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Speaking on the current state of the division, Tonyan believes the NFC North <a href="https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/bears-te-robert-tonyan-says-nfc-north-is-wide-open/ar-AA1cWou8" rel="noopener">is ‘wide open’ for the</a> Bears taking, reports MSN’s Alyssa Barbieri.</p><p>“It’s wide open. That’s the best part. Everyone is young. Everyone is new. You have good players on every team. That’s the thing. There is no favorite. And it’s wide open. And that’s exactly where you want to be.”</p><p>Robert Tonyan emphasizes that it is not just the Bears but every team in the NFC North that looks to be on fresh footing. Still, he believes the Bears are in a great position because no one expects them to be at the top of the division.</p><p>“I love where we are at. Overlooked, underrated, whatever you want to call it. But they still gotta step on the field because they’ve gotta see us. I’m excited.”</p><p>Tonyan mirrors a lot of the sentiments coming out of Bears camp and around Bears nation. The excitement <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-news-tremaine-edmunds-reveals-why-he-chose-chicago" rel="noopener">surrounding the team is palpable</a>, as a whole lot of young talent has been loaded up alongside veteran playmakers, all leading back to burgeoning superstar quarterback Justin Fields.</p><p>If Fields turns into the quarterback that the Bears envision him to be, then Chicago could be a threat in the NFC North for a very long time. Current Bears and former Packers tight end Robert Tonyan’s reaction to those comments might make Green Bay fans even more incensed.</p><p>Tonyan said the comments were “funny” and that he “<a href="https://www.nbcsportschicago.com/nfl/chicago-bears/bears-videos/tonyan-on-jones-anti-packers-comments-i-like-that-fire-in-him/486838/">likes that fire</a> in him”, per NBC Sports Chicago.</p><p>“It’s funny. . . . JJ is a little opinionated on that and I like that. I like that fire in him.”</p><p>While Tonyan is definitely making this more light-hearted, it still won’t make Packers fans feel good to hear him say that a Bears player bashing them is “funny.”</p><p>The former Packers pass-catcher then joked that it was good to be on the “right side” of the Bears’ rivalry with Green Bay.</p><p>Tonyan spent the first five seasons of his career with the Packers, emerging as a dependable playmaker for then-quarterback Aaron Rodgers, as he caught a career-high 11 touchdown passes in 2020.</p><p>He inked a one-year contract with the Bears back in March.</p><p>Of course, Packers fans can’t be too angry about <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/robert-tonyan-opens-up-about-joining-bears-following-packers-tenure">Tonyan being on the Bears</a>, given that he grew up loving the team growing up in Illinois.</p><p>It’s safe to say that the Bears-Packers rivalry, already a testy one, is going to have even more on the line in 2023.</p><p>Fans won’t have to wait long to see the teams lock horns either, as the Packers will travel to Soldier Field to take on the Bears in the season opener.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

To the shock of many, the veteran tight end chose to sign with NFC North rival, the Chicago Bears.</p><p>But those close to Robert Tonyan were not shocked by the decision to join the Bears in free agency. Tonyan, who is from McHenry Illinois, grew up a fan of the Bears. When given the opportunity to join his childhood team, the decision was easy.</p><p>During a conversation with reporters on Friday, Tonyan spoke about his decision to join the Bears.</p><p>“Did I think I’d be a tight end for the Bears? No. But did I think I’d play for the Bears? Yeah, absolutely. In my brain, I was playing for the Bears my whole life. I’m just super pumped to be here,” said Tonyan <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/bears/ct-chicago-bears-robert-tonyan-20230317-qvx7ojsyevg3pjdb44xq2t5r2m-story.html" rel="noopener">via</a> the Chicago Tribune’s Colleen Kane.</p><p>Robert Tonyan bursts onto the scene for the Packers during the 2020 season. He finished the campaign appearing in all 16 games, recording 52 receptions for 586 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.</p><p>Heading into the 2021 season, Tonyan was once again prepared to play a key role. Unfroutanely, injuries limited him to just eight total appearances.</p><p>This past season, Tonyan returned to form in the Packers offense. Over 17 games, he recorded 53 receptions for 470 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.</p><p>Robert Tonyan now joins a Bears offense that is loaded with firepower. With Justin Fields leading the charge, and players such as DJ Moore, Chase Claypool, Darnell Mooney, Cole Kmet, Khalil Herbert, and D’Onta Foreman, this unit could be explosive. Adding Tonyan to the group adds another option to this already-loaded group. During the game, Packers linebacker Rashan Gary had the <a href="https://packerswire.usatoday.com/2022/08/13/whoops-rashan-gary-decks-amari-rodgers-at-end-of-kickoff-return/">biggest hit</a> of the game. That’s despite the fact that he did not even play. Amari Rodgers, at the end of his kickoff return, was pancaked by his teammate, sending the video viral.</p><p>After practice Sunday, Packers tight end Robert Tonyan was asked about it. He gave a hilarious take that’s sure to give Gary a boost of confidence.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">Robert Tonyan said he needs to get hit to really feel like he's back: "Rashan Gary, he’s the only person I wouldn’t let hit me. Everyone else I’ll let him me,” Tonyan said.</p><p>Gary is entering his fourth season in the NFL after being drafted in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Michigan. Each season, Green Bay’s linebacker has improved statistically. Last season, he set career highs with nine sacks and two forced fumbles. He is 6-foot-5 weighing 277 pounds of all muscle. His sentiment is easily understandable.</p><p>The Packers tight end is battling his way back after an injury-plagued 2021-2022 season. After a breakout 2020 season, Tonyan came crashing back to Earth last season. Through the first eight games, he caught just 18 of his 29 targets for a whopping 204 yards and two touchdowns. He then suffered a season-ending torn ACL.</p><p>There is a good chance that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/aaron-rodgers-fantasy-football-outlook-for-the-2022-nfl-season/" rel="noopener">he looks closer to his 2020 self</a>. Davante Adams’ departure should open up a lot of targets in the Packers passing game.
