Ben Johnson is now the head of the snake, and it seems like everybody is ready to buy into his system. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/commanders-news-jayden-daniels-caleb-williams-diss-seth-rollins">Caleb Williams should have a great second year</a> under Johnson, and so should Rome Odunze, who was also one of the Bears’ first-round picks last season.</p><p>Odunze had a solid season for the Bears, but this season he’s looking to accomplish way more. In an interview with the media, the wide receiver was honest about <a href="https://x.com/CHGO_Bears/status/1930707490507038924" rel="noopener">the hardest part</a> of his first year in the NFL.</p><p>“Losing. I don’t like losing,” Odunze said.</p><p>The Bears finished last season with a 5-12 record and were in last place in their division. It was obvious some changes needed to be made at the end of the season, especially on the offensive side of the ball. They went out and hired Johnson, as he showed the past few years how much of a mastermind he could be with the Detroit Lions.</p><p>The Bears should win more than five games this season, and with the additions they’ve made in the offseason, the present and future look bright for them.</p><h2>Bears’<b> offense primed to have big year</b></h2><p>After a disappointing season last year, the Bears are looking to get their team on track and make some noise with the new coaching staff in place. Johnson may have been one of the best coaching hires during the offseason, and he has a young, explosive team that will be able to run the style of offense he likes. Williams showed flashes in his rookie season, and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/bears-news-fans-loving-ben-johnsons-constructive-caleb-williams-criticism">Johnson should be able to unlock his game</a> and make him one of the bright young quarterbacks in the league.</p><p>As far as skill positions, Odunze should have a big second year as well, and DJ Moore will continue to dominate as the top receiver for the Bears. At the running back position, Johnson showed with the Lions that he knows how to get the best out of his players, and D’Andre Swift is the type of back that could thrive in the system.</p><p>In a competitive division, the Bears will have to go out and play their best football every week, but they have the potential to do something special this season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Wide receiver Rome Odunze has unsurprisingly emerged as one of Caleb Williams’ favorite targets during both of their rookie campaigns, ranking second on the team in receptions (39), yards (518), and targets (70).</p><p>Both Williams (the No. 1 overall pick in the draft) and Odunze (the No. 9 overall pick in the draft) face a lot of attention and scrutiny as the Bears’ <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-2024-nfl-draft-grades-for-every-pick">top picks of the 2024 NFL Draft</a>. However, they’ve handled the pressure well with both players ranking among the very best at their position when it comes to first-year players.</p><p>“He’s awesome,” says Rome Odunze in a one-on-one interview of his relationship with Williams on behalf of his partnership with Sharpie. “He’s a great dude, always laughing and chopping it up about different things and talking ball and just relaxing. We’ve gone to some movies, done some parts of different things with people on the team, always a great time.”</p><p>The 22-year-old receiver mentions how he’s further bonded with the 23-year-old quarterback over the new Call of Duty game. Although he wouldn’t say it bluntly, he did admit that he’s better than Williams at Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6.</p><p>“We’ve been playing a little bit of Call of Duty with the new one coming out, so that’s been a lot of fun too. He’s a good dude. I’m not going to put him on blast right here, right now, but everybody knows I’m like that on there, I’m like that,” Rome Odunze responds when asked who is better at the game.</p><p>The Bears have had the definition of an up-and-down season this year, with a pair of recent down-to-the-wire losses to the divisional opponents in the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers. After missing a last-second field goal attempt with a chance to win the game against the Packers in Week 11, the Bears came up short in an overtime loss to the Vikings after overcoming an 11-point deficit with under two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.</p><p>While being 4-7 isn’t fun, <a href="https://www.sportscasting.com/news/rome-odunze-i-must-score-more-touchdowns-to-help-bears-offense/" rel="noopener">the continued growth of Williams continues to be a bright spot</a> in the team’s 2024 season. The Bears’ rookie quarterback had one of his best performances of the season, throwing for 340 passing yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers against the 9-2 Vikings.</p><p>Williams probably won’t be winning Offensive Rookie of the Year, but his steady and calming performance at quarterback has kept the Bears in most games this season.</p><p>“He’s just very dialed in each and every week,” says Rome Odunze of Caleb Williams. “The things that you learn and the defensive recognition as a quarterback, I think has continued to grow. His recognition of reads and all those different things, I think he’s continued to grow on during the season. With those real live reps, that’s crucial to everybody’s development, especially at the hardest position on the field. As Chicago looks to turn things around in Week 4, the Bears are hopeful both Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze will be on the field.</p><p>Allen and Odunze were both full practice participants on Friday. Odunze (hip) is <a href="https://x.com/TomPelissero/status/1839731097111789692" rel="noopener">fully ready to go</a> on Sunday while Allen (heel) is listed as questionable, via Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.</p><p>Allen was able to get in limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday before returning to full action on Friday. While he is listed as questionable, the veteran receiver is <a href="https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1839732202294083922" rel="noopener">trending towards playing</a> against the Los Angeles Rams, via Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.</p><p>The Bears haven’t seen Allen on the field since Week 1. In their lone win against the Tennessee Titans, Allen grabbed just four passes for 29 yards. However, he was targeted 11 times, showing Caleb Williams’ immediate trust with the veteran receiver. Allen may not be up to his usual standard after two weeks off, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/keenan-allen-trade-grade-for-bears-chargers-deal">Bears acquired him in a trade</a> with the Los Angeles Chargers for a reason.</p><p>In Allen’s absence, Odunze has gotten more of an opportunity to prove what he can do. Against the Colts, Odunze had his coming out party, catching six passes for 122 yards and a touchdown. His targets have gone up each week, resulting in 11 in Week 3. His connection with Williams has been evident as the pair maneuver the NFL together.</p><p>As Williams shakes the rookie jitters off, Chicago has been one of the worst passing teams in the NFL. Through the first three weeks the Bears rank 25th in the league, averaging 176.7 yards per game.</p><p>Coming off of back-to-back losses, the Bears are looking for a spark. As the No. 1 pick in the draft, there will be many expectations put on Williams, but all he can do is control what he can control.</p><h2>Caleb Williams receives advice early in Bears’ rookie season</h2><p>Caleb Williams is off to a slow start in his NFL career, but others around the league are still high on the rookie quarterback, including <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-news-josh-allen-advice-for-caleb-williams-nfl-career">Josh Allen. The Buffalo Bills quarterback shared his thoughts on Williams</a> and also gave him some advice earlier in the week.</p><p>“I mean, he’s played a lot of big-time games whether it was at Oklahoma or USC. I think he understands the game,” Allen said. “Obviously, the first couple of games in your NFL [career], if they don’t go your way, it doesn’t mean it’s gonna define your career.</p><p>“I think he’s gonna keep working hard, playing football the way he knows how to play the game. He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NFL</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears are currently sitting at 1-1 on the young 2024 NFL season after a road loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-news-chicago-signs-caleb-williams-usc-john-jackson">Williams has not</a> gotten off to the start that many envisioned <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-news-caleb-williams-reveals-2-things-he-learned-from-texans-relentless-blitzing">after Chicago drafted the signal caller</a> number one overall this past spring, but the Bears have a very winnable slate of games coming up to try to create separation in the standings.</p><p>One of <a href="https://x.com/RShermanPodcast/status/1836812666507014505" rel="noopener">the main culprits</a> that has been blamed for Williams’ slow start thus far has been the general ineptitude of the Bears’ offensive line, which was on display once again on Sunday in Houston.</p><p>One person who is angered by what he’s seen–or more specifically what he hasn’t seen–from that group is former Pro Bowl cornerback and current Thursday Night Football commentator Richard Sherman, who recently took to his own The Richard Sherman Podcast to relay his concerns.</p><p>“What were the Bears doing in the draft? Everybody blamed Justin Fields for everything last year, but they could all agree that line was atrocious,” said Sherman. “OK, you’ve got two picks in the top ten. Sure, you take Caleb Williams. But then you go receiver? For what? You have nobody to protect him… you don’t want to shell shock a young quarterback and make him gun shy.”</p><p>Here, Sherman is referring to the Bears’ selection of wide receiver Rome Odunze with their second first-round pick behind Williams as opposed to drafting an offensive lineman to help protect their young star quarterback.</p><h2><b>Can Caleb Williams turn things around?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Williams-in-Houston.jpg"><figcaption>Troy Taormina-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Throughout the preseason, Caleb Williams showed plenty of flashes of the generationally talented prospect he was built up to be during his time with the USC Trojans in college. His dynamic improvisational playmaking skills and elite arm talent were and still are undeniable.</p><p>Unfortunately for the Bears, Williams hasn’t shown those talents so far through two games, as he has been constantly under pressure and made some plays that may have worked out in college but turn into interceptions at the professional level.</p><p>As previously mentioned, the Bears have, in theory, a relatively easy schedule coming up, as their next five opponents have a combined record of 1-9 so far on the 2024 season.</p><p>The first test on that slate of games will be this coming Sunday on the road vs the Indianapolis Colts. It’s a long season, so keeping both Allen and Odunze healthy so they can team up with Williams and fellow wideout DJ Moore is paramount. It’s a big sigh of relief for both Williams and Waldron that Odunze is able to go, but Allen was a friendly target when Caleb needed one in his debut.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-vs-texans-prediction-odds-pick-for-nfl-week-2-2024">The Bears will need</a> to score probably a few touchdowns to keep up with the Texans, led by quarterback CJ Stroud. The second-year signal caller also has a solid group of receivers fronted by veteran Stefon Diggs. They have the firepower to make this game a shootout, especially if both defenses don’t play up to their respective levels. The sheer number of weapons on both sides (each team has solid starters at running back and along the offensive line) will make the game a tough one for both defensive coordinators.</p><p>With Odunze still ready to go Sunday night, don’t be surprised if both teams put on their share of fireworks. The Bears would be best to get D’Andre Swift going and give their offense more dimension as to take pressure off Williams.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/robert-griffin-iii-exclusive-interview-bears-caleb-williams">Robert Griffin III did well to explain</a> how the lofty expectations surrounding Caleb Williams are just that.</p><p>“Our job in this industry is not to make predictions,” says Griffin when asked about who will be the best rookie quarterback. “Our job is to give educated intel to the fans so they can grow and learn. I’ve learned that you don’t have to necessarily answer these questions. It is based off situation. I can hypothetically say that Caleb has the best roster around him. Based off of that, he should win NFL Rookie of the Year, right? He’s got three No. 1 wide receivers and a No. 1 tight end. I didn’t even mention Cole Kmet.</p><p>The situation is near-perfect for a rookie quarterback. All NFL teams, like the Bears, put their players in the best position possible every week. While Chicago’s pass catching room is talented, their lackluster depth would be tested outside of DJ Moore if Allen and Odunze cannot go. Journeyman wideout DeAndre Carter was the only player outside of those three to receive more than one target against the Titans.</p><h2><b>How Bears can improve offensive production in Week 2</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Caleb-Williams-tackle.jpg"><figcaption>Mike Dinovo-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Bears really struggled to get anything going offensively in Week 1, and all of their problems on that side of the ball started with the interior of the offensive line. The Tennessee front blew up the Chicago interior over and over again, stuffing the run and pushing the pocket back into Caleb Williams’ lap. Williams did a good job for the most part evading sacks — he took just two for 29 yards — but wasn’t able to come up with some of his magic outside of the pocket that he flashed in college.</p><p>There is good news for the Bears’ interior heading into this week. Tennessee’s defensive tackles are some of the best in the league, with superstar Jeffery Simmons wrecking games as usual and rookie T’Vondre Sweat putting together an excellent NFL debut. The Texans’ interior defensive line isn’t on that level, but they have a solid secondary and an elite edge duo with Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. that will still make it tough for Chicago up front.</p><p>The Bears can mitigate this weakness in a few ways. The first way is to move the pocket a bit and get Williams out on the perimeter, where he can find some easy completions and use his athleticism on the outside. They can also utilize the perimeter run game to minimize the effect of poor guard and center play, and maybe add in some of the option schemes that Williams excelled with in college.</p><p>Regardless, if <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/texans-news-cj-stroud-gives-caleb-williams-flowers-bears-clash">Williams is going to have a successful game</a> on Sunday night, the play up front is something that needs to be addressed.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Allen (heel) and Odunze (knee) did not practice this week; <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/41248019/bears-wrs-keenan-allen-rome-odunze-game-decisions" rel="noopener">both will be game-time decisions</a>, via head coach Matt Eberflus per ESPN’s Courtney Cronin.</p><p>“We’ll take it all the way up to the game, potentially work them out before the game and then see where they are prior to the game,” Eberflus said. “That’s where those guys are.”</p><p>The 32-year-old Allen hurt his heel during the preseason, and it has been lingering since then. He was able to play in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans. In that game, he caught four of his team-high 11 targets for 29 yards.</p><p>Odunze had an MRI on his knee earlier in the week, and it came back clean. The Bears are taking a cautious approach with the rookie</p><p>When asked if Allen could still play, considering he already played through this injury, Eberflus seemed optimistic.</p><p>“I believe that’s true,” Eberflus said. “I also believe that with an experienced player that he’s able to, and he’s played so many games, that you’re able to input him into the game plan a lot easier than, say, a rookie.”</p><p>The Bears will need their full complement of weapons at Caleb Williams’ disposal.</p><h2><b>Projecting Williams, Allen, Odunze for the rest of the season</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/rome-odunze_818fca.jpg"><figcaption>David Banks-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-news-matt-eberflus-finds-bright-spots-caleb-williams-rough-debut">Williams had one of the worst rookie QB debuts</a> for a No. 1 overall pick. I thought his disposition and body language, all the way through it,” Eberflus said. “So he didn’t have the day that he wanted, but all those things were good. The communications was good on the field, on the sideline, during half time, making adjustments.</p><p>“And I thought he did some really good things in the 4-minute drive at the end, made some really cool completions during the course of the game. Again, I know he wants to play better, and he’s going to do that this week, but it’s a learning process for these young quarterbacks.”</p><p>The Texans only allowed four first downs against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, but they were susceptible to big plays, as Anthony Richardson connected on a 60-yard bomb to Alec Pierce. Wide receivers Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1833963424981942600" rel="noopener">missed practice</a> on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. For Odunze, his injury was clarified and it’s <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-news-rome-odunzes-injury-vs-titans-more-clarity-amid-concerns">believed to be a Grade 1 MCL sprain</a> after catching one pass for 11 yards. On the other hand, Allen is working through a heel injury he suffered at training camp.</p><p>‘Bears WRs Keenan Allen (heel) and Rome Odunze (knee) did not practice today.’</p><p>Odunze is considered day-to-day by the Bears and Odunze spoke on Wednesday about how he’s <a href="https://www.nbcsportschicago.com/nfl/chicago-bears/bears-news/bears-injury-report-rome-odunze-keenan-allen-did-not-practice-wednesday/593039/?partner=yahoo&amp;cid=yahoo" rel="noopener">grateful for dodging</a> a major injury, per Ryan Taylor of NBC Sports.</p><p>“I mean, it happened, and then I got up, I felt kind of a pop in there, so I knew something wasn’t necessarily right,” Odunze said. “I usually try and walk things off, see how it feels. So I played the next play and was on a block, and it didn’t feel right.</p><p>Luckily for Odunze, he received an MRI from the training staff and it was what he thought it was. The news isn’t promising for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. He only threw for 93 yards in the 24-17 win over the Tennessee Titans. With two of his top targets out, matters become more difficult. Although the team has a top-tier defensive unit and special teams, they can only do so much.</p><p>Allen posted four receptions for 29 yards. The 11-year wide receiver talked about <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-news-keenan-allen-reveals-rookie-difference-caleb-williams-justin-herbert">building chemistry with Williams</a> and raved about his confidence heading into the season. Still, Williams is a rookie. There will likely be some growing pains before he evolves into the player many project him to be. Also, it’s hard to find offensive success when the top pass-catchers are dealing with injury. </p><p>Even though Allen has dealt with injuries and still played throughout his career, his playing or sitting could heavily influence Williams. The former Chargers receiver is a security blanket over the middle of the field. Both he and Odunze showed great route running and a dynamic element offensively for the Bears. However, if both receivers are out, Williams still has DJ Moore, who had no problems being a main focal point in 2023.</p><p>Moore had <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3915416/dj-moore" rel="noopener">five receptions for 36 yards</a> during the Week 1 opener. Regardless if life may be more difficult for Williams, at the very least, he’ll have a receiver more than capable of making the big play. However, some information may have just given fans a glimpse of what his injury could be.</p><p>Jordan Schultz <a href="https://x.com/Schultz_Report/status/1833278672918262201" rel="noopener">reported that</a> Rome Odunze could be suffering a Grade 1 knee sprain. However, there is still no certainty that this is the case as the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-news-rome-odunze-not-settling-behind-dj-moore-keenan-allen-on-depth-chart">Bears wideout is set to get</a> a second opinion on his injury. Nonetheless, this ailment that happened during their clash with the Titans could still sideline him for a chunk of time.</p><p>This injury could mean that Caleb Williams’ fellow rookie has damaged fibril alongside some stretching on his knee. Other players who have endured the same injury are Jordan Love, TJ Watt, and Troy Fautanu among others. In the very best case, Matt Eberflus could just lose him for a maximum of three weeks. One might think that his catch would be a non-factor but it did push the Bears to have a gain of 11 yards.</p><p>It is then very easy to see why the Bears head honcho has a lot of trust to Odunze.</p><p>“We’re giving him a lot. He’s playing multiple positions and we think he’s going to be able to handle those concepts. The veterans are going to help him through training camp, there’s wisdom there with years and experience but I really believe he’s going to have the ability to take off because of the other players. Some guys just have a knack for doing it. He’s able to process a bunch of information at the same time and take it to the field. He’s really good that way,” Eberflus declared during training camp.</p><p>Now, all Odunze has to do is heal up and learn from the sidelines. Unfortunately, it appears he also picked up an injury.</p><p>Bear head coach Matt Eberflus revealed Monday that Odunze <a href="https://x.com/kfishbain/status/1833190514335666253" rel="noopener">will undergo</a> an MRI on his knee, per Kevin Fishbain.</p><p>This is concerning news considering the former University of Washington standout is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-caleb-williams-puts-old-guys-on-notice-with-rome-odunze-connection">expected to be one of Caleb Williams’ top targets</a>, but hopefully, the injury isn’t too serious. While the Bears have Moore and Keenan Allen as the likely top two targets, the rookie will be a key cog, too. He was a fantastic player in college and was taken ninth overall by Chicago after they drafted Williams No. 1 overall.</p><p>The 22-year-old played in 77% of the Bears’ offensive snaps on Sunday. Eberflus said he injured the knee while blocking. They won’t know the extent of the injury until Wednesday.</p><p>“I don’t know exactly when it happened,” he said. “I believe it was a blocking play. I did not see it on film. We’ll see where it is and hopefully he’ll be fine.”</p><p>Moore and Allen actually both got hurt in the season opener but the Chicago coach didn’t discuss it at all on Monday. It wasn’t a fantastic debut for Williams either, completing just 14 of 29 passes for 92 yards. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/titans-news-will-levis-painfully-honest-boneheaded-pick-6">The Bears’ pick-six late in the fourth quarter</a> proved to be the difference-maker.</p><p>Chicago’s next contest is on Sunday against a tough Houston Texans team led by CJ Stroud and Stefon Diggs. They have not wasted much time in <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bears-news-caleb-williams-with-epic-touchdown-has-nfl-world-ecstatic">giving Bears fans exactly what they want to see</a> in the preseason.</p><p><a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/game/_/gameId/401671901/bengals-bears" rel="noopener">For starters, the Bears are winning</a>. In fact, they are undefeated through three preseason games. While preseason wins don’t mean much of anything, it is good to see the team has already learned what it takes to finish games. Ideally they can ride that momentum into the regular season.</p><p>They’ve also had big plays. Williams and Odunze created some magic on a scramble drill play that resulted in a long completion of 45 yards. I thought I had at least a foot.”</p><p>On the bright side, at least Odunze is getting all of these mistakes out of the way during the preseason.</p><h2><b>Bears QB Caleb Williams responds to Tyreek Hill comparing him to Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Caleb-Williams-throwing-against-the-Buffalo-Bills.jpg"><figcaption>Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports.</figcaption></figure><p>Bears fans are not the only ones hyping up Caleb Williams before his NFL career has even begun.</p><p>Tyreek Hill is the latest NFL player to heap praise on Williams after he dazzled in yesterday’s preseason action. <a href="https://x.com/cheetah/status/1824883411418296618" rel="noopener">Yesterday he posted</a> “Caleb Williams so nice he remind me of….” on X, formerly Twitter. He is clearly comparing Williams to Patrick Mahomes here, whom Hill played with for years in Kansas City.</p><p><a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/bears-caleb-williams-addresses-patrick-mahomes-comparisons-after-tyreek-hill-latest-to-point-out-similarities/" rel="noopener">Williams responded to the comment in stride</a>. He gave a respectful answer when asked about the discussion by reporters.</p><p>“It’s respect,” Williams said. “It’s cool and all, but I’m Caleb Williams. Patrick Mahomes is Patrick Mahomes. Tyreek Hill is Tyreek Hill. Much love to them and things like that — I’ve met ’em, talked to ’em both, things like that — but we’re here to win games for the Chicago Bears. Da Bears.”</p><p>This is exactly what you would expect Williams to say in response. It would be far too cocky to double down on the statement, but it would also seem weird to try and fight this comparison.</p><p>Ultimately, Bears fans can be confident that their QB is comfortable in his own skin. After the game, Williams did acknowledge that the Bears could be a fireworks show in 2024, but the rookie quarterback wasn’t going to get too caught up in the excitement of his first in-game connection with Odunze. Williams was still primarily concerned with getting enough reps in to catch up with the rest of the vets in Chicago.</p><p>“We’re going to be explosive,” Williams said <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40899264/rookie-caleb-williams-sharp-again-bears-defeat-bengals" rel="noopener">after the 27-3 win</a>, according to Courtney Cronin of ESPN. “We’re two rooks, but we’re trying to catch up to the old guys as fast as we can to make sure that we’re right there on par with them to be able to be efficient, function, go out there and be explosive, be on the same page and win games. That’s ultimately what we’re here to do. In 43 snaps against the Bills and Bengals, Williams has completed 10-of-20 passes for 170 yards, and ran the ball twice for 20 yards and a touchdown.</p><p>Before the preseason began, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus noted that he expected Williams to play about 50 preseason snaps.
