Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NFL</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>In 2024,<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sean-mcvay-explains-rams-decision-to-bench-tredavious-white-in-week-5" rel="noopener"> Tre’Davious White’s play for the Los Angeles Rams</a> has been a disappointment.</p><p>Long considered one of the better man-press cornerbacks in the NFL, White has been beaten at crucial spots on the outside against receivers elite and middle-of-the-road and simply hasn’t displayed the deep speed needed to catch up if his technique isn’t perfect. Factor in the<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rams-news-sean-mcvay-provides-fans-with-encouraging-update-on-injured-starter" rel="noopener"> return of Darious Williams</a> and the concerted effort to make Cobie Durant into a premier talent for the Rams, and White was a healthy scratch in Week 5 and may not play for the team much anymore.</p><p>Is White cooked? Maybe yes, maybe no, but things might actually be a bit more complicated than fans might have initially expected, as, according to Sean McVay in his first press conference after the bye, White<a href="https://rams.1rmg.com/quotes/rams-transcripts-monday-october-14-mcvay/" rel="noopener"> hasn’t been playing at close to 100 percent</a>.</p><p>“Oh yeah, it did. Yeah, first things first, when you talk about Tre White, what an impressive human being, A pro’s pro. A guy that has continuously responded and shown the work capacity [and] the character capacity to be able to handle a lot of different situations,” McVay told reporters.</p><p>“I think you always have plans. A lot of the plans that we had relative to this team or as it relates to what you’re asking about were very different from what’s unfolded. That’s our reality. Because we were so injury prone at that spot, defensively in particular [and] some other spots offensively, that did accelerate the amount of snaps that he was going to play. He did a great job of being ready to go and he’s a competitor. Ultimately, [I] can’t say enough good things about him and we’re really looking at it alright, what’s the best thing for the Rams? Tre White’s a pro in every sense of the word. It did unfold a little bit differently as a result of those injuries to answer your question.”</p><p>Wait, could this absence from the starting lineup actually lead to some time for White to get his body right over the next few weeks and potentially play at a high level before the end of the season? Well, if the Rams can go at least a few weeks without an injury at the position, then who knows? Maybe the LSU product could surprise people down the line, assuming White isn’t released or traded over the next few weeks.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/TreDavious-White-on-the-practice-field-for-the-Ram.jpg"><figcaption>Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><h2><b>Sean McVay hints at more changes for the Rams moving forward</b></h2><p>Asked about the decision to move Williams into the starting lineup in place of White in Week 5, McVay noted that he plans to keep things the same way moving forward, with the former Jaguar on one side and Durant on the other, assuming health.</p><p>“I do. I would say some of those things specific to different personnel groupings were specific to the Packers [and] exactly how we approached the Raiders,” McVay noted. “In terms of getting Darious [Williams] back, having some of those things with Cobie Durant at the outside corner, those guys did a nice job. We’ll move forward with that.”</p><p>While Williams and Durant will likely get the initial nods in Week 7, that doesn’t mean the Rams don’t have some other ideas moving forward, as McVay would like to see a few more personnel changes on defense to really get Chris Shula’s defense humming.</p><p>“There’ll be some. I’ll talk to you guys about that. There’ll be some different things that we’ll look at. I do think where it’s available, competition brings out the best in guys,” McVay said. “[It] might be some different things you see offensively that we will explore to see guys compete and then defensively it’s the same sort of thing [or] looking at ways to get guys involved. Well, because their head coach, Kevin O’Connell, used to work under Sean McVay and credits his former head coach for easing the NFL transition.</p><p>Asked about their time together in LA during his first press conference post-bye, McVay celebrated his success, noting he’s <a href="https://rams.1rmg.com/quotes/rams-transcripts-monday-october-14-mcvay/" rel="noopener">proud of his former assistant for forging his own path</a>.</p><p>“He has a great presence about himself. There are certain guys… I met Kevin at a camp a long time ago, and I knew who he was as a player. It’s a small fraternity of people in coaching and I was always really impressed with the way that he had handled himself. And then we got connected and you could hear the capacity, the character of the human being, and his ability to relate in an authentic way to a bunch of different people,” McVay told reporters.</p><p>“When you have an opportunity to really… it wasn’t even an interview; it was more of an opportunity to say, ‘Alright, we’d like to have you come here in 2020.’ You could immediately feel there’s a leadership, there’s a connection, there’s a capacity for the game, there are different experiences that he had, whether it was as a player or as a coach, that he accelerated his progress. I’m not in the least bit surprised. He’s a special guy, and I think even just watching the way that he’s navigated his first two and a half years, you can’t help but say what a great leader he is. From Zac Robinson in Cleveland to Raheem Morris in Atlanta, McVay is proud to have formed the NFL’s great talent incubator.</p><p>“I think we just try to be an open environment. A lot of the ways that we do things are a reflection of where I felt like I was treated really fairly and really well in terms of the inclusivity that you can provide for everybody. I also think opening up the communication and the dialogue for guys to be able to have the comfort in disagreeing too. It’s not just me… when we say it and you mean it, a lot of these guys have gone on to get other leadership roles outside of this building, you miss them tremendously, but they also contribute tremendously to what goes on in here,” McVay noted.</p><p>“Whether that’s guys that you’re asking about [Falcons Head Coach] Raheem [Morris], [Buccaneers Offensive Coordinator] Liam [Coen], Zac… you’re watching all those guys [and Falcons Defensive Coordinator] Jimmy Lake do a great job yesterday as you sit there as a fan and watch. It’s all part of the journey, and you use those things constantly. The most important thing is let’s continuously improve and let’s make impacts. Those guys impacted me, and I hope their experience here impacted them as well.”</p><p>Though he may not be considered the wunderkind offensive mind that every owner around the NFL wants a piece of moving forward, McVay has still produced talented coaches around the NFL, many of whom will surely branch off their own talent in the future, too. But as the Rams prepare to take on the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7, Los Angeles may receiving some Kupp-sized reinforcements.</p><p>The star wide receiver had a ‘positive’ workout on Monday, <a href="https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1845997421169410489" rel="noopener">making his return to action more likely</a>, via Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Los Angeles will continue to monitor Kupp and see how his ankle responds to continued practices.</p><p>While nothing is set in stone, seeing Kupp return would be a massive boon for the Rams. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rams-news-cooper-kupp-puka-nacua-week-7-injury-updates">With Puka Nacua also down due to a knee injury</a>, Matthew Stafford was running out of pass catcher. Getting Cooper Kupp back on the field would give Los Angeles a reason to believe in their offense.</p><p>Cooper Kupp started the 2024 season on fire, catching 14 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown in Week 1. He had another four grabs for 37 yards in Week 2 before going down. His latest injury has continued Kupp’s career narrative. Dominant when healthy, with when being a major question mark.</p><p>The 2021 season was the last time Kupp appeared in all 17 games. Perhaps unironically, that was the first and only time he has been a Pro Bowler and an All-Pro. Still, over 12 games in 2023, Kupp caught 59 passes for 737 yards and five touchdowns. He has 585 receptions for 7,213 yards and 52 touchdowns over his eight-year Rams career.</p><p>With Los Angeles sitting at 1-4, Kupp’s return couldn’t have come at a better time. It’ll take quite the shovel to dig the Rams out of the whole they’ve dug. But if there was one offensive skill position player in LA to do it, it’d be Kupp.</p><p>The Rams are hopeful that he’ll be able to continue practicing throughout the week. Assuming he suffers no setbacks, Los Angeles is staying optimistic that Kupp will suit up against the Raiders.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

As <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/when-are-rams-planning-for-cooper-kupp-to-return-from-ankle-injury">Kupp has an ankle injury</a> that’s kept him out since Week 2. Nacua has been out since the opening game against the Detroit Lions. In that time, the Rams have amassed a 1-4 record with their only win coming against the San Francisco 49ers.</p><p>Regardless, Rams head coach Sean McVay said via Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times about the <a href="https://x.com/LATimesklein/status/1845895657409990763" rel="noopener">star duo’s availability</a> heading into Week 7. McVay said “Rams WR Cooper Kupp will workout with trainers today but no determination has been made about his availability for Sunday’s game against Raiders. Puka Nacua will not practice this week.”</p><p>This is a step in the right direction for the Rams, as they’ve dealt with a plethora of injuries. They currently have <a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/LAR/los-angeles-rams/injuries/" rel="noopener">10 players on the injured reserve</a>. Both Kupp and Nacua make up a huge chunk of the passing game for McVay and the offense.</p><h2><b>Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua highlight the passing attack for the Rams</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Cooper-Kupp-and-Puka-Nacua-get-Week-7-injury-updates-for-the-Rams.jpg"><figcaption>© Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>After all, Kupp was a triple crown winner at his position in 2021. He had 145 receptions for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns. Although he’s been dealing with consistent hamstring and ankle issues, Nacua stepped up in a big way. The former BYU standout had about as good of a rookie season as one can have. He had 105 receptions for 1,486 yards and six touchdowns.</p><p>Kupp and Nacua share a similar skill set; excellent route running, great hands, and awareness when a play breaks down. Their tools are essential for McVay to maximize their skill sets. He’ll have the duo in motion, use them as a slot receiver or even as a decoy for the other.</p><p>Despite being 1-4, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/49ers-most-to-blame-for-week-3-loss-to-rams">Rams still have a win over the 49ers</a>. Not to mention that the NFC West could be a toss-up for any team to win the division at this point. Los Angeles has looked competitive despite losing the star duo. However, having both of them back before the halfway point could spice things up in an unstable NFC Conference.</p><p>Los Angeles still has to play the 49ers once more, along with the Arizona Cardinals. They have yet to play the Seattle Seahawks this season, and both Kupp and Nacua should be good to play by then, barring any injuries. Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Editorials</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>In the past, the Los Angeles Rams would be a hot name at the trade deadline for the right reasons.</p><p>A franchise known for their propensity for targeting marquee players to help on the field in addition to selling jerseys and marketing Jack in the Box deals, the Rams have <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rams-news-matthew-stafford-three-word-reaction-to-making-super-bowl-after-lions-trade" rel="noopener">added big-name players like Matthew Stafford</a> and Jalen Ramsey via trade and largely won a Super Bowl because of it.</p><p>In 2024, however, the Rams look like certified sellers unless some team even worse off than them, like, say, the Cleveland Browns or the Tennessee Titans, are looking to make a move. They have a 1-4 record, have been without many of their star players all season long, and unless things really turn around in the NFC West in a way that puts them at the top of the heap by the November 4th deadline, they will likely have no hope for anything but a good draft pick.</p><p>Fortunately, in a seller’s market, that might not be the worst place to be, as if the right deal comes along, be it something small for a poorly fitting player or something huge for a true game-changer, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl-rumors-matthew-staffords-rams-situation-one-to-watch-ahead-of-trade-deadline">the Rams at least need to consider making a deal</a>.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/TreDavious-White-on-the-field-for-the-Rams.jpg"><figcaption>Matt Kartozian-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><h2><b>1. Trade </b><b>Tre’Davious White</b><b> to the Ravens for a sixth-round pick</b></h2><p>As tough as it may be to admit, the Tre’Davious White experiment in Los Angeles has been an <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sean-mcvay-explains-rams-decision-to-bench-tredavious-white-in-week-5">abject failure</a>.</p><p>In what felt like a chance to bring in a former All-Pro at the price of a mid-level starter, White has<a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WhitTr01.htm" rel="noopener"> allowed 12 catches on 18 targets for 178 yards</a> and has already allowed four touchdowns, which is tied for the highest mark of his career in just four games. He’s missed 25 percent of his passes and, in Week 5, was benched for a returning Darious Williams opposite Cobie Durant.</p><p>So, if White isn’t going to play for the Rams again in 2024 but another team, like the cornerback-hungry Baltimore Ravens, would be willing to give up even a sixth-round pick for his services, the Rams should do it, right? Think about it, the Ravens have allowed the second-most passing yards in the NFL through five games and have a very banged-up secondary; if they like White’s abilities as a press-man cornerback and believe they can provide enough support both up front and from the safety position to keep him effective, why not give up a late pick for his services?</p><p>Does a 2025 sixth-round pick really help the Rams in 2024? No. Would they be better off trying to snag a linebacker for White’s services? Sure thing, but do you know what? There really aren’t that many teams that would surrender an asset for White, let alone give up a promising linebacker for his services. Better to take a pick, use it at some point, and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nick-sirianni-breaks-down-devin-whites-failed-eagles-tenure">take a flier on a player like Devin White</a> in free agency and just be done with it.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Matthew-Stafford-on-the-field-for-the-Rams.jpg"><figcaption>Robert Hanashiro-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><h2><b>2. Trade Matthew Stafford to the Dolphins for a first-round pick</b></h2><p>As the Rams’ season has fallen off a cliff in 2024, one of the hottest names on the trade market, real or imaginary, has been Stafford, the <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/StafMa00.htm" rel="noopener">36-year-old two-time Pro Bowler</a> who has been doing his best with a diminished supporting cast in 2024.</p><p>On one hand, it’s hard to imagine the Rams trading away Stafford in the middle of the season, as he is not only the face of the team but the first man to bring a Super Bowl trophy to the LA iteration of the team, with all of their previous wins coming in St. Louis or before the Lombardi Trophy was christened. Stafford is still one of the elite passers in the NFL, and even in Year 16, he can still lead a quality roster to the Super Bowl.</p><p>Unfortunately, that probably won’t happen in LA this year, but could his fates be different in Miami, with Mike McDaniel calling the shots?</p><p>Now, if the Dolphins come calling, the Rams shouldn’t just hang up, as Stafford is their present, not their future, but they shouldn’t just give him away either, as he’s the sort of difference-maker who could not only swing a season but almost never comes available mid-season.</p><p>If the Dolphins are willing to surrender a first-round pick for Stafford, trade them to Miami.</p><p>With Jimmy Garappolo unsuspended and Stetson Bennett still holding the clipboard as QB3, the Rams could unquestionably be a worse team if they said goodbye to Stafford, but considering they are already 1-4, how much worse can they really bet? Bad enough to pick first overall in the 2025 NFL draft? Because frankly, that feels like an opportunity not a punishment.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Bryce-Young-playing-against-the-Panthers.jpg"><figcaption>Daniel Bartel-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><h2><b>Bonus: Trade a conditional second-round pick for Bryce Young</b></h2><p>Alright, the Carolina Panthers have made it pretty clear that they have no plans to move Bryce Young at the trade deadline. They still believe <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/panthers-news-carolinas-long-term-bryce-young-plan-trade-inquiries">he can be part of their future</a>, even if Andy Dalton is the present, and even if Carolina gets the first-0verall pick in the NFL draft for the third year in a row, they could use it on a player like LSU left tackle Will Campbell instead of a new QB1 like Carson Beck.</p><p>… but come on, would the Panthers really consider passing on Beck or another worthy quarterback who would have two more years on his rookie contract in order to give Young another try in Year 3? For everyone’s sake, getting the pride of Alabama to an offensive guru like Young makes all the sense in the world, as even if the price is semi-steep, say, a second-round pick that could become a first if he starts 15 games in 2025, the chance to get a number-one overall pick for at most a late first-round pick, especially with the oldest QB1 in the NFL under center, might just be a risk worth taking for the Rams.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

In their most recent article, Graziano pitches the idea that Matthew Stafford could be traded at the deadline if the Rams can’t start winning games. But why didn’t White play at all? Why was he inactive for the game when an injury could have thrust him back into action?</p><p>Asked this very question by reporters after the game, McVay <a href="https://rams.1rmg.com/quotes/rams-packers-postgame-quotes-10-6-24/" rel="noopener">broke down the decision</a>, which ultimately came down to special teams and the presence of another former starter, Ahkello Witherspoon.</p><p>“Not sure about those things quite yet. Once we reconnect, I’ll have a better answer for you. My mind has been on this group, where we’re at and we’ll be excited when we do get those guys back,” McVay told reporters. “With Tre’Davious White, it was a coaching decision. He’s been a pro in every sense of the word, but [we] get Darious [Williams] back [and] we felt like we were going to have a larger role for Ahkello [Witherspoon]. There are some special teams considerations that go into it. That was what resulted in him being inactive today.”</p><p>Was White’s benching just a Week 5 thing? Or will he be out of action for the foreseeable future, even if he is fully healthy? Could the Rams release White like the<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/eagles-news-philadelphia-releases-devin-white" rel="noopener"> Eagles just did with Devin White</a>? I have to go back and look at the long one that they had to [Packers TE Tucker] Kraft. You look at it overall; I was really pleased. We were sticky in coverage [and] we were connected. It wasn’t until really late in the game that they got their first third-down conversion. [Packers Wide Receiver Jayden] Reed makes a great play where we’ve got three guys in position. It was like the ball went in the only spot that it could be able to make that play. Overall, it seemed like they played pretty well.”</p><p>In the NFL, all it takes is one mistake to give up a touchdown. A corner can play 68 perfect snaps out of 70 and still leave the game with poor marks if their two miscues go for touchdowns. Still, the defensive secondary is hardly the reason the Rams lost in Week 5, as once again, they had a chance to score the decisive victory on the final drive, and a backup playmaker – if you can call Colby Parkinson that – didn’t come up clutch for Matthew Stafford. Their defense has been bad against the pass and among the worst run defenses in the NFL. And with the team heading into the bye, there’s a real danger of everything falling apart in an even more spectacular way moving forward, as the team could stop giving it their all if they don’t believe there’s a point.</p><p>And yet, in his media availability after the Packers game, McVay addressed reporters, his players, and Rams fans alike about the team’s plans moving forward and <a href="https://rams.1rmg.com/quotes/rams-packers-postgame-quotes-10-6-24/" rel="noopener">how they’re going to stick together moving forward</a>.</p><p>“Yeah, just what I said to you guys. I think you look at it, and the reality is, you can tend to think you’re a lot further away than you are. There’s going be a lot of outside noise and we have to stay inside out more than anything. I’m excited about the opportunity to respond. I’m excited about the opportunity to say, ‘Alright, we’ve got some adversity. How do we handle that?’ Alright, here’s that storm that we talked about, and want to be proud of the way that we handle it,” McVay told reporters.</p><p>“Want to make sure that our guys get away, and then we do a good job as coaches being able to reflect, evaluate, and say, ‘alright, with these five games, are we getting guys back? Are we not? What does it look like to try to avoid some of the different things that we haven’t done well enough? And try to continue to replicate some things that have been some positives. But this one…you keep it real. This was tough because we put a lot of work into this week. There were plenty of opportunities that I thought we had to be able to change the outcome and we came up short. We all have our hand in it.”</p><p>While there are no moral victories in the NFL, the Rams really have tried their best to hold things down despite a string of injuries, with three of their four losses coming by a touchdown or less. We’ll evaluate everything. That was a result of Josh Wallace playing some ‘star’ today. That enabled Quentin Lake to play safety almost exclusively with the exception of a couple things. But that’s a good observation,” McVay explained. “We’ll observe everything. When you’re in these situations, we have to do a good job of making sure that we look at the totality of everything, regardless of position, and make sure that we’re doing a great job of trying to make sure that we play as good a football as we can with the remainder of the season.”</p><p>One of the most popular players on the Rams, finding a way to get Lake more involved moving forward feels like a great idea, especially now that Los Angeles has four cornerbacks who would theoretically like to play moving forward. All those things are reasons why we were so excited to be able to get him back. This guy’s got a great concept trigger, just a natural feel,” McVay told reporters. “Certain guys have a knack for being able to get their hands on the ball if those opportunities present themselves. We’re excited to get Darious back.”</p><p>On paper, one of the few positions that haven’t been ravaged by injuries so far this season, at least from Weeks 1-4, has been cornerback, with all three of the team’s opening day starters, Cobie Durant, Tre’Davious White, and Quentin Lake all going strong. Unfortunately, that hasn’t always been a good thing, as White has been pretty bad, Durant hasn’t been much better, and Lake exclusively plays on the inside when he’s down at cornerback. If Williams can prove a steady presence on the outside, replacing either White or Durant, or rotating in at both spots, it can only help the Rams’ effeciencey moving forward.</p><p>Why? Vasquez-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><h2><b>Sean McVay believes the Rams’ receivers can beat Green Bay’s coverage</b></h2><p>Elsewhere in his Friday media availability, McVay commented on the Packers’ defensive backfield, which routinely likes to deploy with single-coverage on the outside.</p><p>Will the Rams’ receivers, who are still down Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, be able to take advantage of that seeming advantage? If they do come in Week 5, McVay believes they will, even though the Packers’ defense has looked good at times this season.</p><p>“Yeah in general, if you get those opportunities. [Green Bay Packers Defensive Coordinator] Coach [Jeff] Hafley does a great job mixing it up. There’s been some things where they’ve given up some of those that you refer to or where they have a big lead late in the game. These guys are a great defense. They do a great job. They’re very opportunistic taking it away. We’ve to be efficient in all situations. If you do get those one-on-one ops, you certainly need to be able to win but they got some great corners that we’ve got a ton of respect for.”</p><p>Through the first four games of the 2024 NFL season, the Packers have allowed 83 receptions on 130 targets for 922 yards and eight touchdowns. While none of those marks rank higher than 21st in the NFL, their eight interceptions rank first overall, with free safety Xavier McKinney leading the way with four.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
