After all, they’re still 3-3, not enough to go into desperation mode. However, at least that’s what Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones believed, as he insisted he won’t trade his players or <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-jerry-jones-doubles-down-on-not-firing-mike-mccarthy-this-season">fire coach Mike McCarthy</a>.</p><p>“As for the upcoming November 5th NFL trade deadline, Cowboys Jerry Jones says they will not be active,” via <a href="https://x.com/DMRussini/status/1846306275812167808" rel="noopener">this post</a> from NFL insider Dianna Russini on X, formerly Twitter. “He also says they will not be making any changes at head coach or coordinators. He points to a lot of details that need to improve during practice.”</p><h2><b>The Cowboys stand pat</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Jerry-Jones-before-a-game.jpg"><figcaption>© Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>After making excuses about the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-jerry-jones-addresses-not-pursuing-derrick-henry-in-offseason">Cowboys not signing Derrick Henry</a> in the offseason, Jerry Jones continues to stick with his team despite treading water nearly halfway through the season.</p><p>The Lions loss was their fifth-biggest loss in team history, but it was only the second time this season that they’ve lost by 20 or more points. In Week 2, the New Orleans Saints put a drubbing on them with a 44-19 blowout.</p><p>Perhaps he believes he can still get decent returns from <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-dak-prescott-agrees-historic-240-million-contract-extension-before-week-1">extending quarterback Dak Prescott</a>, one of the NFL’s highest-paid players this season. However, against the Lions, Prescott didn’t play up to the level of his contract, finishing 17-33 with 178 yards and two interceptions.</p><p>Likewise, Jones extended wideout CeeDee Lamb to a six-figure contract for four years. Against the Lions, he had a solid showing, with seven receptions and 89 receiving yards.</p><p>If they weren’t trading for anyone, then how can the team improve?</p><p>Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the team will simply have to fix its mistakes during practice. Through six games, the team’s defense has given up 365.5 yards per game, good for ninth-most in the league, and 28 points, third-most in the NFL.</p><p>Still, improving internally is good and repairs team chemistry. However, at some point one wonders how far practice can take a team if the quality players simply aren’t there, or if the coaching staff isn’t as good as one hoped.</p><h2><b>The owner responds</b></h2><p>As expected, fans also aren’t happy with how the team is faring so far, blaming Jerry Jones for not doing anything in the offseason, and the Cowboys owner has responded by <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/41810125/jerry-jones-calls-radio-hosts-feisty-interview-cowboys-struggles" rel="noopener">going off</a> on a Dallas radio show.</p><p>“This is not your job. Your job isn’t to let me go over the reasons that I did something and I’m sorry that I did it,” he said. “That’s not your job or I’ll get somebody else to ask these questions, men. No, no. I’m not kidding.”</p><p>Even <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-shannon-sharpe-blasts-jerry-jones-for-threatening-radio-hosts-job">Shannon Sharpe called Jones out on First Take</a> for threatening the radio hosts’ jobs. With the loss, Dallas is now 0-3 at home this season. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-cowboys-owner-jerry-jones-brutally-honest-week-6-disappointment">Jones expressed his disappointment</a> over the shocking defeat. Unfortunately, he took things a step further on a radio appearance Tuesday.</p><p>Jones joined 105.3 the FAN for an interview but the 82-year-old billionaire appeared to be spoiling for a fight. In a tense exchange, he was asked if he should have done more to improve the Cowboys’ roster during the offseason in his role as general manager. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-jerry-jones-calls-himself-idiot-during-unhinged-radio-rant">Jones responded with an unhinged rant</a> during which he implicitly threatened the radio host’s job.</p><p>Despite <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-shannon-sharpe-blasts-jerry-jones-for-threatening-radio-hosts-job">facing backlash over the public tantrum</a>, Jones has doubled down on his rage-filled radio spot. He <a href="https://x.com/jonmachota/status/1846325512647725517" rel="noopener">defended his actions</a> to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. “I don’t know that I would go as far as (calling) the volume connotation as yelling. OK? But the facts are that if I’m going to be grilled by the tribunal, I don’t need it to be by the guys I’m paying,” Jones said, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota on X.</p><p>“I can take it from fans and take it from other people. I take a lot of pride in how fair and how much I try to work with the media, we’re brothers and sisters. But I was a little frustrated there today. … The wrong ones were doing the questioning. They have a 3-3 record and were dismantled 47-9 by the Detroit Lions on Sunday. It was their second game allowing 40+ points, with the first coming against the New Orleans Saints in Week 2.<br><br>In 2023, Dallas was simply dominant. They ended up with the highest-scoring offense in the league (29.9 points per game). Also, they had the fifth-best defense in the league, only allowing 18.5 points per game. So far this season, it’s been the inverse. They’re currently 19th in the league on offense and 30th in defense. While some of their downfall can be attributed to Dan Quinn leaving the defensive coordinator position, they retained most of their personnel.</p><p>Regardless, the defensive woes have been inexcusable. Also, the offense has looked like a shell of itself. After <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-michael-irvin-sounds-alarm-cowboys-season">Michael Irvin sounded the alarm on the Cowboys</a>, Cuban had a similar sentiment, but this one with more empathy and sympathy.</p><h2><b>Jerry Jones has question marks around him and the Cowboys</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Mark-Cuban-feels-for-Jerry-Jones-amidst-recent-struggles.jpg"><figcaption>© Robert Deutsch-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-jerry-jones-calls-himself-idiot-during-unhinged-radio-rant">Jones was unhinged in a radio rant</a> about the Cowboys’ performance on Tuesday. He scrutinized a reporter for asking about the lack of offseason moves. The attack could be one of frustration, since Jones has a winning expectation for his franchise. The ability to not handle constructive criticism is a little alarming, considering the circumstances.</p><p>Also, the Cowboys owner is the general manager of the team. One of the most critical moves he made was not signing current Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry. In a Sports Illustrated article, Jones stated that <a href="https://www.si.com/nfl/jerry-jones-made-excuse-cowboys-not-signing-derrick-henry#:~:text=Henry%20lives%20in%20Dallas%20and,team%20couldn't%20afford%20him." rel="noopener">the team couldn’t afford him</a>. Henry ended up signing a two-year, $16 million with the Ravens. </p><p>This was one of the many misses in free agency for the Cowboys. They also let Tony Pollard walk in free agency, and he ended up signing with the Tennessee Titans. Had they been willing to spend money on anyone other than quarterback Dak Prescott, and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, this might be a different conversation.</p><p>However, there’s only been six weeks of the season so far. Regardless, it seems the team is staying the course for now.</p><p>Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked on Dallas radio if <a href="https://x.com/jonmachota/status/1846176977247440953" rel="noopener">he w0uld considering making an in-season coaching change</a>. Jones did not take kindly to the question.</p><p>“And I won’t be making any others during the season,” Jones said on 105.3 the FAN, per The Athletic’s Jon Machota. Jones is clearly saying that head coach Mike McCarthy will <i>not</i> be fired during the season.</p><p>The Cowboys have not made an in-season coaching change since the 2010 season when they fired Wade Phillips.</p><p>It remains to be seen what changes, if any, the Cowboys will make during their bye week. They don’t have that many levers to pull. The Cowboys owner seemed to get very testy and frustrated with the interviewer during his radio appearance. Guys, it’s just football. But since people love to toss blame, here are three Cowboys, including Dak Prescott, most to blame for the loss to the Lions in Week 6.</p><p>The Cowboys got manhandled 47-9 by the Lions. At home. Yep, 47-9. In that kind of a loss, it’s easy to point fingers. In fact, it would be more difficult to find areas for encouragement. But there is one. The Cowboys have the best place-kicker on the planet.</p><p>OK, back to the bad stuff.</p><h2><b>Cowboys QB Dak Prescott didn’t get it done</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Dallas-Cowboys-QB-Dak-Prescott-1.jpg"><figcaption>Andrew Dieb-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>He missed on almost half of his pass attempts, completing 17 of 33 tosses. He totaled 178 yards with two interceptions — including an ugly one in the end zone — and no touchdowns. Meanwhile, the ground game only supported him with 17 carries for 53 yards.</p><p>Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said <a href="https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/nfl/dallas-cowboys/article293919699.html" rel="noopener">there were many problems</a> for Prescott.</p><p>“I think really the passing game you can start with the protection,” McCarthy said. “I think he was, you know, he was on his back foot all day from the get-go. And we had a couple things that were not clean, as far as a chip, check down, release and so forth were mistakes. Young players, but we need to be better, at the end of the day we need to take care of the football.”</p><p>Of course, Prescott’s performance impacted CeeDee Lamb. And the Lions added to the mix by playing supreme attention to the star wideout.</p><p>“They doubled CeeDee pretty much most of the day,” McCarthy said. “And then definitely Jake Ferguson saw some doubles too. We got to continue to do more in those areas. Not getting the run game really kind of put us on our heels. And that’s not fair for, you know, our alignment. But you know, the combination of run and pass is where you want to be. But once again, I think they I think they were ahead of us at the line of scrimmage.”</p><h2><b>What did Dak Prescott have to say about loss</b></h2><p>Prescott said it turned <a href="https://x.com/PatDoneyNBC5/status/1845620927985271024?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1845620927985271024%7Ctwgr%5Eedd5497b84eddb29286a5370e2241077e16f94e4%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fbleacherreport.com%2Farticles%2F10139292-dak-prescott-after-cowboys-blowout-loss-to-lions-we-need-to-look-in-the-mirror" rel="noopener">into a tough day</a>, according to a post on X by NBC’s Pat Doney.</p><p>“Very frustrating,” Prescott said. “I don’t want to say I’ve got to play perfect, but I’ve got to be better. We’re 3-3, six games under us, a long season to go. We need to look in the mirror and figure out how we can be better for this team. Humbling for sure. That’s the #NFL. Concerning? I’m not a guy to hit the panic button.”</p><p>It added up to the Cowboys’ third straight home loss.</p><p>“We’ve played winning football on the road,” McCarthy said. “We’ve played three good teams. We have three good teams that have come in here and played well against us. It’s the National Football League. It’s not who you play, it’s when you play them. And you know, that’s part of where we are. You know, we have, our lineups are changing. This is a good experience with some rough moments and this definitely was a rough moment today.”</p><h2><b>Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy under fire</b></h2><p>After putting together thre straight 12-5 regular seasons, the Cowboys don’t currently look like that kind of team in 2024. It could turn around, but McCarthy has to be feeling a little heat. Still, Prescott <a href="https://x.com/jonmachota/status/1845888496445092025" rel="noopener">has his back for now</a>, according to a post on X by Jon Machota of The Athletic.</p><p>“The man he is,” Prescott said. “The preparation that he puts into this. The leader. I’ll go to war for that guy, with that guy, every single day. And I’m not the only one in that locker room. I feel like everybody feels that. If you heard what he said after that game (last night), not something that I care to let you guys in on honestly, but strong message. Strong message. In a loss, to be able to feel that way and show those emotions and respond, I’ll follow him. I’ll follow him. I know he said it to you guys, he said it in there, he’s looking in the mirror, as we all should. Thankful for him as my coach. Period.”</p><p>One good thing for McCarthy is owner Jerry Jones’ <a href="https://www.on3.com/pro/news/dak-prescott-reaffirms-confidence-in-cowboys-coach-mike-mccarthy-after-blowout-loss-to-lions/" rel="noopener">reluctance to fire coaches</a> in midstream, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter via on3.com.</p><p>“First of all, that’s not (Jones’) history,” Schefter said. “No. 2, who do you want to appoint from that staff that’s going to be a better coach than Mike McCarthy? Who on that staff is taking over? His contract is up after this year, so there’s no reason for the best coach on their staff not to continue on. Let the season play out and then make a decision, especially considering Jerry’s history.”</p><h2><b>The Cowboys’ defense isn’t holding up</b></h2><p>As the final score suggested, the Lions did what they wanted to do. Jared Goff passed for 315 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. On the ground, they racked up 184 yards on 36 rushing attempts with a pair of scores.</p><p>That’s kind of been what is has looked like for the Cowboys at home. They’ve been tougher on defense on the road, but it came against the lesser offenses of the Browns, Giants, and Steelers. McCarthy said it has been a rollercoaster.</p><p>“We’re up and down right now,” McCarthy said. “If you want to put it on a grid, use mathematics, the analytics. I mean, the ebb and flow of what we’re doing is there’s way too many highs and too many lows. This is all over right now. There’s none of us that feel good about how we performed today. That’s where it’s important for every one of us, starting with myself, they need to look in the mirror. We don’t need any help; don’t want any help. So, we just need to stay after it, keep working. Detroit dominated in every facet of the game, cruising to a 47-9 victory.</p><p>The 38-point margin was the Cowboys’ largest loss since a 43-3 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings in 1988, making it the fifth-worst loss in franchise history. And it all took place on team owner and general manager Jerry Jones’ birthday, no less.</p><p>Head coach Mike McCarthy, whom Jones said he had no plans on replacing following the humiliating setback, arrived two hours late for his press conference on Monday afternoon. After apologizing for his tardiness, McCarthy explained that the Cowboys simply <a href="https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/did-mike-mccarthy-players-during-231434993.html#:~:text=%E2%80%9COur%20basics%20are%20not%20in,giveaways%20and%20lack%20of%20takeaways.%E2%80%9D" rel="noopener">don’t have the basics in order</a> right now, via Yahoo Sports.</p><p>“Our basics are not in order,” McCarthy said. “It’s stating the obvious, it starts with the turnover ratio. Fundamentals of football are part of your everyday existence in this game. We cannot function where we are as far as the number of giveaways and lack of takeaways.”</p><p>“So really, I just kept it about football,” he continued. “The technique, fundamentals and how you improve that, the focus with that. The number of moving parts. Regardless of that, we need to be more connected, more uniform. While Dallas fans are surely disturbed by the lopsided, nationally televised defeat, noted Cowboys hater Stephen A. The defensive unit was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-micah-parsons-week-6-status-ankle">missing star linebacker Micah Parsons</a>, who was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-micah-parsons-concerning-neck-injury-giants">forced from the team’s Week 4 matchup</a> against the New York Giants with an ankle injury and hasn’t been able to play since. But his absence doesn’t fully explain the Cowboys 47-9 defeat, the fifth-most lopsided loss in franchise history. As Smith pointed out in his “First Take” segment, it was the worst home loss Dallas has experienced since owner Jerry Jones bought the team 35 years ago.</p><h2><b>The Cowboys could not stop the Lions in Week 6</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Jameson-Williams.jpg"><figcaption>Kevin Jairaj-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The running game was also extremely concerning as Rico Dowdle “led” the way with five carries for 25 scoreless yards. Ezekiel Elliott chipped in eight rushes for 17 yards on the ground. As a team, the Cowboys managed just 53 rushing yards against the Lions. Detroit, on the other hand, ran all over Dallas, turning 36 carries into 184 yards.</p><p>Before using his ESPN show to rub Cowboys fans’ noses in the steaming pile of bad football their team produced, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-stephen-a-smith-trolls-jerry-jones-cowboys-lions-blowout">Smith trolled Jones and Dallas</a> on social media. Following the abomination of a game, Smith posted an Instagram video that showed him laughing maniacally and generally reveling in the Cowboys’ misery.</p><p>Smith had a little extra glee following Dallas’ embarrassing Sunday night performance as he was dejected when the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-stephen-a-smith-in-shambles-win-steelers">Cowboys beat his Pittsburgh Steelers</a> in Week 5. Pittsburgh rebounded to convincingly defeat the Las Vegas Raiders 32-13 on Sunday. All-in-all, a good day for Smith.</p><p>With the loss to the Lions, the Cowboys fell to 3-3 on the season. They’re in third place in the NFC East. Nonetheless, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-jerry-jones-firm-stance-coaching-change-week-6-loss">Jones is not considering making a coaching change</a>. Nonetheless, Irvin took to the “Come and Talk 2 Me” podcast and shared <a href="https://youtu.be/GMEXaiWQr-o?t=441" rel="noopener">his continued concerns</a> with his former squad.</p><p>“That thing on the wall that says break glass in case of emergency, crack that s**t now, right now,” Irvin said. “I’m sounding the alarm for the help that they need on offense. I’m not sounding the alarm thinking that even with DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons coming back, that’s going to be sufficient enough to stop the holes and the bleeding on that defense.</p><p>“So, I’m just sounding the alarm and breaking the glass saying get Davante (Adams), get me some help on this offense because I know you cannot fix that defense. A few weeks ago, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-michael-irvin-trade-demand-ceedee-lamb-performance">Irvin demanded the Cowboys make a trade</a> to improve their offense. Now with Davante Adams likely not playing for the Las Vegas Raiders again, Dallas could snag him when the value might not be the highest. However, it’s not only a receiver issue for the team. It’s a bit of everything.</p><p>There’s no established run game since Tony Pollard signed with the Tennessee Titans in free agency. Also, the Cowboys had an opportunity to sign Derrick Henry but they simply refused. There’s been a lack of consistent offense the entire season. On the flip side, the defense hasn’t fared much better either. </p><p>Irvin has given up on any hope that Dallas can fix their defense, so he just wants them to bring in more weapons for Dak Prescott on the offensive side of the ball. After losing 47-9 they might need to make player personnel changes. Dallas is giving up 28 points per game, the <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/dal/2024.htm" rel="noopener">third worst in the NFL</a> only ahead of the Panthers (33.8) and Jaguars (29.7).</p><p>In six games they have given up over 40 points twice already. The three wins they have came against the Browns, Giants, and Steelers. While the Steelers have a 4-2 record their offense has been more in line with the Browns and Giants. </p><p>Regardless, the Cowboys have some serious work to do if they want to reach the top of the NFC East again. The Philadelphia Eagles are looking more like their old selves. The Washington Commanders look like a legitimate threat with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels leading the way.</p><p>The Cowboys will need to clean up the issues quickly if they want to avoid another blowout loss.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

But just because that game was over, it apparently doesn’t mean that the hostility between Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and Cowboys defensive back Jourdan Lewis is over.</p><p>On Monday, St. Brown shared a <a href="https://x.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1845808712637714743" rel="noopener">screenshot of an alleged private message</a> sent to him by Lewis.</p><p>“You a b***h,” Lewis’ message read (h/t Ari Meirov).</p><p>Nevertheless, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-skip-bayless-throws-shade-dak-prescott-jared-goff-take">St. Brown’s Lions got the better</a> of whatever Dallas’ defense threw at them on Sunday. Brown did not exactly put up a fiery performance, but he still scored a touchdown to go with 37 receiving yards on four catches and four targets. As a team, the Lions dumped 492 total yards from scrimmage on the Cowboys, who were lackluster on both ends of the field.</p><p>Detroit quarterback Jared Goff repeatedly marched the Lions’ offense into Dallas territory, finishing with 315 passing yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions on 18-of-25 pass completions. Detroit’s win was sweet revenge for the Lions’ 20-19 loss to the Cowboys in Week 15 of the 2023 NFL season, which also took place at AT&amp;T Stadium.</p><h2><b>Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown and Cowboys’ Jourdan Lewis have history</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Amon-Ra.jpg"><figcaption>Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK</figcaption></figure><p>This is not the first time that St. Brown reacted off the field to Lewis’ trash-talking.</p><p>“I’m like, ‘Yo, hold on. I’m gonna have to go hard. He was talking crazy out of pocket. [Jameson Williams] heard it too, he was coming in. At that point, it was like, I don’t know what he’s saying. I’m trying to make plays, win the game, I’m not worried about him,” ASB explained,” the Lions wideout said of Lewis during a July episode of the “The Pivot Podcast.”</p><p>Lewis also <a href="https://x.com/Tony_Catalina/status/1810767826149658861/photo/2" rel="noopener">reacted to that comment</a> by St. Brown.</p><p>“I am passionate about my craft and I don’t want to be friends with everyone, especially a Detroit Lion not from Detroit,” Lewis posted at the time via Instagram Stories.</p><p>In any case, both the Lions and the Cowboys will be moving on to their next assignments.
