Fall back into that, fall back into the normal routine of the week and trying to get myself as prepared and ready to go and making sure the guys around me are doing that as well.”</p><p>Ryan was much more efficient in Week 10, completing 21 of 28 passes for 222 yards and one touchdown. Although he was battling a shoulder injury as well, it was the first time Ryan played since October 23rd. Ehlinger was disappointed over the collection of errors and failures of the Colts that prevented them from edging the Commanders, but he remains optimistic about the team’s offense.</p><p>Via <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/sam-ehlinger-s-first-start-doesn-t-change-issues-for-colts-we-had-a-lot-of-oppor" rel="noopener">Kevin Patra of NFL.com</a>:</p><p>“I thought as an offense, we had a lot of opportunities. We just shot ourselves in the foot,” Ehlinger said. “Two turnovers, got down to the inch-yard line and came away with three points and that’s not good enough in this league. It’s frustrating, but we showed we could be an explosive offense, we had explosive plays and we’ve got to keep building from here.”</p><p>Sam Ehlinger passed for only 201 yards on 17-of-23 completions against Washington. He was not able to find anyone for a touchdown, but at least he did not get intercepted. However, he lost a fumble, which was just one of the Colts’ two turnovers in the game. Star running back Jonathan Taylor also lost a fumble.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/colts-news-frank-reichs-job-security-after-shocking-matt-ryan-sam-ehlinger-decision-revealed/" rel="noopener">second-year quarterback</a> out of the Texas Longhorns program got the nod to start for the game against Washington after the Colts decided that it was time for Matt Ryan to step back and let the youngster take the keys to the offense. This time, Frank Reich is making an in-season change and will bench Matt Ryan in favor of second-year QB Sam Ehlinger.</p><p>After several seasons with no progress made in that position, Reich is under plenty of pressure to figure something out and help the team emerge as a true playoff team. Indianapolis is ready to give him that time, though. According to <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/colts-head-coach-frank-reich-s-job-status-considered-to-be-safe">NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport</a>, the Colts aren’t planning to fire Reich, who has been their head coach since 2018 and has led the team to winning records three times in four full seasons.</p><p>“Multiple sources say Reich is in no trouble at all. His job status is best described as ‘safe,’ sources say, and in good shape,” writes Rapoport. The Colts coach has a 40-31-1 record in his tenure with two playoff appearances.</p><p>Colts owner Jim Irsay has both Reich and general manager Chris Ballard’s back, according to <a href="https://twitter.com/mortreport/status/1586730629240164352?s=20&amp;t=VapF-oH8y0BbwvGQDnw-qQ">Chris Mortensen of ESPN</a>. “I’m in a great spot with Chris and Frank. We’re all re-energized with the move to Sam Ehlinger. He’s gonna do great for us.”</p><p>The Colts have made the decision to switch from Matt Ryan to Sam Ehlinger after a 3-3-1 start to the 2022 NFL season. Indianapolis’ offense has been ineffective and wildly inconsistent for the most part during Ryan’s term as the team’s starting quarterback. Through seven weeks, the Colts are just 30th in the NFL with 16.1 points per game. Errors have also piled up on the part of Ryan, who is top 10 in the league with 2,008 passing yards to go with nine touchdown tosses but also has been picked nine times already this season.</p><p>The Colts believe that Sam Ehlinger can give them a spark offensively. However, in speaking with the media on Wednesday, the second-year player from the University of Texas says he is prepared for the new challenge.</p><p>Per <a href="https://twitter.com/zkeefer/status/1585330224266620928?s=20&amp;t=BTbh2b9A3gJBQJJXALKe3w" rel="noopener">Zak Keefer</a> of The Atheltic, Ehlinger had spent his time “always preparing to be the starter. The Colts are still in the conversation for the division crown in the AFC South; however, sitting in second place with a record of 3-3-1 does not leave a ton of margin for error.
