Last Thursday night, the Eagles began their title defense with a 24-20 win over the visiting Dallas Cowboys. A divisional win to start the season off makes a 1-0 start just a little sweeter. On Sunday, the Eagles will face the Chiefs once again, this time in Kansas City. Ahead of the Super Bowl LIX rematch, Philadelphia running back Saquon Barkley warned the reigning AFC champions, as well as the rest of the NFL, of <a href="https://x.com/Tim_McManus/status/1966554207428792496" rel="noopener">the dangers of not stopping</a> the Eagles’ run game. Barkley and quarterback Jalen Hurts routinely expose the flaws in other teams’ rush defenses. All three of Philadelphia’s touchdowns in the season-opening win were on the ground, with Hurts running in two of them. Barkley picked up the third, running for 60 yards on 18 carries. Hurts pitched in 62 yards on the ground with 14 carries. Backups Will Shipley and A.J. Dillon also had three attempts apiece. Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NFL</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>When news broke that the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/eagles-news-philly-swings-tank-bigbsy-trade-jaguars">Philadelphia Eagles traded a pair of picks to acquire Tank Bigsby</a> from the Jacksonville Jaguars, fans immediately started imagining his pairing with Saquon Barkley.</p><p>Suddenly, one of the better young running backs in the game would be teamed up with one of the best players in the NFL period, with a whole world of possibilities unlocked by their potential pairing.</p><p>Asked by reporters how it feels to join a running backs room headlined by Barkley, Bigsby noted it’s great, as he gets to play with the best player in the NFL <a href="https://x.com/ZBerm/status/1965922359887671507" rel="noopener">at their shared position</a>.</p><p>“I feel like he’s best in the league, if you ask me,” Bigsby told reporters via Zach Berman. “Because he’s different. Jumping over someone backwards, it don’t happen like that.”</p><p>That play in question, Barkley’s signature backwards hurdle that now graces the cover of Madden 26, actually happened against the Jacksonville Jaguars, where Bigsby played at the time. Asked what it was like to see that happen live and in person, Bigsby recalls his exact reaction.</p><p>“I said holy s**t,” Bigsby recalled.</p><p>With Barkley and Bigsby linked up, the Eagles might just have the best running back rotation in the NFL, especially when Will Shipley returns from his rib injury. And the best part? Asked about how to attack opposing kickoff units under this new format, Bigsby noted it’s not too different from a traditional zone running play, which is his specialty.</p><p>“It’s like a big old run, really, the defense, they’re right there, like O-line, and you know how to D-line right there, so the way they engage. So it’s like a big old run, big old zone run, and they run this way, you got an opportunity to knife it, they head up, you can make a decision, make an arm tackle, so it’s just, it’s like a big run right now.”</p><p>As arguably the best zone blocking team in the NFL, it makes sense that the Eagles would be able to execute on kickoffs and secure the offense great field position. Soon, Barkley will be the subject of a new Prime Video documentary, Saquon, which is produced by <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/eagles-news-saquon-barkley-believes-even-giants-fans-enjoy-documentary">acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese</a>.</p><p>Barkley appeared on the Peyton and Eli Manning-hosted ManningCast during the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears game. The documentary premieres on Prime Video on October 9, the same day as the Giants and Eagles’ first matchup in 2025. Classic Scorsese right there, how about that? [Do] you like that idea?”</p><p>However, Barkley does not think Giants fans would like that. “I don’t think any Giants fan ever wants to see me in a Giants uniform again,” Barkley said. “You know the saying, ‘Once a Giant, always a Giant’? Barkley was selected with the second-overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by them out of Penn State.</p><p>The pick was seemingly done to extend Manning’s playing career, giving him a legitimate running back to work with. He played in all 16 games in his rookie year, rushing for 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns. He added another 91 catches on 121 targets and 721 yards and four touchdowns through the air.</p><p>The following year, Barkley missed three games, and the Giants went 4-12. He then missed 14 games with a torn ACL in 2020. Barkley would eventually leave the Giants in 2024, signing with the Eagles. Peyton explained that Eli claims to have “taught” Barkley the move, and the 2024 First-team All-Pro running back confirmed it.</p><p>“I can confirm,” Barkley said. “Eli has taught me a lot in my career, and this one is definitely [from] somewhere during my rookie year or second year. He’s really creative. I used to do it at practice, and he copied me. But I’m not going to take credit for it. I’m going to let him have it.”</p><p>The Mannings had to wait nearly a year to hear Barkley’s side of the story. By all accounts, it sounds like Eli did inspire Barkley’s now iconic move.</p><p>Barkley’s backwards hurdle happened during the Eagles’ game against the Jaguars in Week 9 of the 2024 season. In the second quarter, Jalen Hurts threw a short pass to Barkley. After juking one defender, Barkley he then spun out another defender, causing his back to be facing the incoming defender. He then hurdled backward, leaping over cornerback Jarrion Jones.</p><p>Of course, the moment went viral. It was one of his many signature plays throughout the 2024 season that earned him All-Pro honors.
