After <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/cardinals-news-trey-mcbride-unfortunate-nfl-history-patriots-blowout-win">McBride made unfortunate NFL history with the Cardinals</a>, he is ready for a new chapter.</p><p>The tight end finished with the third-most receiving yards for his position group. Furthermore, McBride led the Cardinals in total receiving yards.</p><p>He was easily quarterback Kyler Murray’s security blanket and favorite target. Offensive coordinator Drew Petzing utilized McBride as a blocker in the run game and used that to his advantage.</p><p>He’s also been able to hurdle over defenders with ease. However, the beginning of his time with the Red Sea wasn’t so sweet. The team had Zach Ertz when they drafted McBride.</p><p>As a result, fans booed the pick and questioned it. Still, McBride proved everyone wrong. In his sophomore season, he posted 81 receptions for 825 yards and three touchdowns.</p><p>Half of the season was without Murray as the signal-caller. Despite that, he ended up being a crucial part of the rebuild for Arizona. Fast forward to the 2024 season, and McBride quite literally took another leap.</p><h2><b>Trey McBride is a cornerstone piece for the Cardinals</b></h2><p>The Cardinals are a young team and have some quality pieces. Marvin Harrison Jr and Trey Benson are two of the more prominent names that stand beside McBride.</p><p>However, the latter was the most involved within the offense. As mentioned before Petzing was quite creative with the tight end as well. Using his athleticism made defenses guess what was going to happen.</p><p>Either way, McBride proved that he was an integral part of the new-look Cardinals. The young pieces around Murray can help propel them into legitimate winning ways.</p><p>Following a 9-8 season, it disappointed some but it was a step in the right direction. With the NFC West being in a bit of scramble mode, there is <a href="https://www.si.com/nfl/cardinals/news/how-arizona-cardinals-compare-nfc-west-seahawks-rams-49ers" rel="noopener">potential for them to win</a> the division.</p><p>Re-signing McBride could be the most necessary move the Cardinals made in the offseason. Not to mention, he has successfully reset the tight-end market.</p><p>If he continues to trend upward, his contract could look like a bargain in the next few years. His connection with Murray and his teammates will continue to grow. Arizona finished the 2024 season 8-9 and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/cardinals-fans-wont-like-jonathan-gannons-reaction-to-playoff-elimination">missed the playoffs</a>, but they were in the hunt for most of the season. The Cardinals have made a number of aggressive moves that could make them a lot more competitive in the fall. That includes adding one franchise legend in the twilight years of his career.</p><p>Cardinals defensive lineman Calais Campbell <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DH67_03xa82/?hl=en" rel="noopener">posted a powerful message</a> on Instagram on Tuesday.</p><p>“What a story it would be! Started my career with a bang,” Campbell posted, accompanied by a photo of himself holding up a Cardinals NFC champions towel. “Now it’s time to finish it with a bang back home where it first began!”</p><p>Campbell was drafted in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Cardinals. Arizona advanced to the Super Bowl during his rookie season, losing a tight game against Pittsburgh.</p><p>Campbell played in Arizona until 2016. Now he returns with a chance to finish his career where it all started.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/cardinals-news-calais-campbell-returns-arizona-season-18">Cardinals signed Calais Campbell to a one-year contract</a> on Tuesday evening. Campbell will suit up for his 18th NFL season this fall.</p><h2><b>Cardinals rebuilding their defense during crucial 2025 NFL offseason</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Jonathan-Gannon.jpg"><figcaption>Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Calais Campbell is just one piece of Arizona’s defensive renovation project this offseason.</p><p>The Cardinals have been hard at work rebuilding their defense ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. Arizona has plenty of work still to do on both sides of the ball, but the defense needs help the most.</p><p>The Cardinals spent big money in free agency, bringing in <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/cardinals-news-arizona-splash-76-million-josh-sweat-contract">Josh Sweat on a massive four-year contract worth $76.4 million</a>. Sweat had an incredible 2024 season, logging 41 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and eight sacks. He was also a huge contributor during Philadelphia’s huge win in Super Bowl 59, even <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/eagles-news-josh-sweat-believes-shouldve-won-jalen-hurts-super-bowl-mvp">having his name in the conversation for Super Bowl MVP</a>.</p><p>Arizona also re-signed linebacker <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/cardinals-news-arizona-agrees-15-million-contract-2024-trade-acquisition">Baron Browning on a two-year contract worth $15 million</a>. They acquired Browning from the Broncos during the 2024 season.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/cardinals-news-bolster-defense-29-million-dalvin-tomlinson-free-agency">Cardinals also brought in Dalvin Tomlinson</a> to solidify the interior of their defensive line.</p><p>Campbell, Tomlinson, and Sweat join a front seven that could still use some reinforcements. Bilal Nichols, Justin Jones, Zaven Collins, BJ Ojulari, and Darius Robinson are all useful players on the defensive line. Campbell returns to the team he began his career with for his 18th season.</p><p>The 38-year-old defensive lineman joins the Cardinals <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1907177576730378553" rel="noopener">on a one-year deal</a>, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. After playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Baltimore Ravens, Atlanta Falcons, and Dolphins in previous years, Calais Campbell heads back to Arizona to play for the Cardinals for the first time since the 2016 season.</p><p>“ESPN sources: Six-time Pro-Bowl defensive lineman Calais Campbell is finalizing a one-year deal to return to the Arizona Cardinals. Campbell was the Cardinals’ 2008 second-round pick, played in Arizona until 2016, and now will return there for his 18th NFL season.”</p><p>The one-year contract Calais Campbell signed <a href="https://x.com/TomPelissero/status/1907178594444689729" rel="noopener">is a $5.5 million deal</a>, per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. Campell has an opportunity to make up to $7.5 million with incentives.</p><p>“Compensation update: The Cardinals are bringing back Calais Campbell on a one-year, $5.5 million deal with a max value of $7.5M, per source. Still playing, and making money, at age 38.”</p><p>Although Campbell is entering his 18th season in the NFL his level of play has not altered. During his one-year stint with the Dolphins, the six-time Pro Bowler recorded 52 combined tackles (35 solo), five sacks, and a forced fumble.</p><p>The Cardinals hope to get that kind of production out of the wily veteran in the 2025 season to provide a boost to the defensive line. As a team, Arizona had the <a href="https://www.foxsports.com/articles/nfl/2024-nfl-defense-rankings-team-pass-and-rush-stats" rel="noopener">No. 21 ranked defensive</a>, allowing an average of 342.5 yards of total offense per game. The team was in the middle of the pack in terms of sacking the opposing quarterback, finishing with campaign with 41 total sacks.</p><p>Bringing in Calais Campbell not only provides consistency at the defensive line but his experience makes him vital for any young edge rushers on the roster. And now, months after the request, there’s a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-rumors-momentum-growing-potential-tush-push-ban">growing chance that the Tush Push gets banned</a>. In fact, there will be a vote among NFL teams to decide whether that play gets banned. These meetings take place from Sunday, March 30, to Wednesday, April 2, and it’s a time for all 32 teams to get together in one spot and discuss how to make the league better.</p><p>Whether it’s rule changes, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/nfl-news-league-reveals-3-teams-that-will-play-home-games-london-2025">spreading the game internationally</a>, or any other pressing topic, it’s discussed at the owners meetings.</p><p>One common topic of discussion is an <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/nfl-news-roger-goodell-major-hold-up-18-game-nfl-season">18-game regular season</a>, but among other topics, the Tush Push will be a hotly contested talking point.</p><p>And for the Eagles, Sirianni — jokingly — hinted at a few coaches hopefully penned in for voting to keep the play around. Those coaches were Jonathan Gannon, Shane Steichen, and Kellen Moore.</p><p>For those unfamiliar with these coaches, they are all former Eagles coordinators.</p><ul><li><b>Jonathan Gannon:</b> Eagles defensive coordinator, <i>2021-2022</i></li><li><b>Shane Steichen:</b> Eagles offensive coordinator, <i>2021-2022</i></li><li><b>Kellen Moore:</b> Eagles offensive coordinator, <i>2024</i></li></ul><p>Now, Gannon might be a stretch, as he was the Eagles’ defensive coordinator from 2021 to 2022, and he probably wasn’t overly excited to practice against the Tush Push each week in practice. Maybe he understands how to stop it now, but it’s not the most useful tool, as the Eagles and Cardinals hardly ever face each other in the regular season.</p><p>But, if the Eagles and Cardinals face off in an NFC Championship, maybe knowing how to stop the Tush Push is good knowledge for Gannon and his Arizona defense.</p><p>However, if a vote goes down for the Tush Push to get banned, Nick Sirianni expects three teams to be on the Eagles’ side of the voting.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

And the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/cardinals-news-bolster-defense-29-million-dalvin-tomlinson-free-agency">Arizona Cardinals have tried to improve his chances</a> with defensive help. Also, here is a <a href="https://www.profootballnetwork.com/mockdraft" rel="noopener">five-round post-free agency</a> frenzy 2025 NFL mock draft, according to the Pro Football Network simulator.</p><p>The Cardinals managed a somewhat respectable 8-9 season in 2024. But they weren’t on the A list in anybody’s conversation. To change that narrative, they enter the draft with needs at edge, defensive tackle, wide receiver, offensive guard, and linebacker. They have a full complement of picks in the first five rounds, including the No. 16 selection overall.</p><p>And the PFN simulator sent this player their way to start things off.</p><h2><b>Cardinals grab OG Tyler Booker in Round 1</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/University-of-Alabama-OG-Tyler-Booker.jpg"></figure><p>This works well for the Cardinals, who fill a need and get a tough competitor from Alabama. Booker stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 321 pounds, which should be sturdy enough to handle the interior of the offensive line.</p><p>“If you’re looking for a sturdy anchor at guard who can dish out punishment as well as he can absorb it, Tyler Booker is your guy,” PFN wrote. “With a low center of gravity and a thick, well-proportioned frame, Booker is very tough to move at the point of attack. His powerful lower half helps him neutralize power rushes along the interior, and his flexibility helps him maximize his power.”</p><p>However, there are limitations. If the Falcons want to pull their guards on a play, Booker may not deliver elite execution.</p><p>“Booker won’t necessarily wow you in space, though he did look a bit quicker after he lost weight before the 2024 season,” PFN wrote. “His hand placement needs work, though there’s a lot to like in his game elsewhere. Given his coordination, his length at guard, and the way he gets the most out of the power he has throughout his frame, Booker could end up selected in the middle of the first round.”</p><p>Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon <a href="https://www.azcardinals.com/news/jonathan-gannon-changes-come-to-cardinals-coaching-staff-2025" rel="noopener">made significant changes</a> to the coaching staff for the 2025 season, according to azcardinals.com.</p><p>“I have to do a better job with everything that we’re doing,” Gannon said. “Our process, how we structure things, connecting with the players, making sure I hold the players accountable, the coaches accountable, how we evaluate things.”</p><p>Included in that mix is a new offensive line coach, Justin Frye. Gannon plucked him from Ohio State, where Frye drew rave reviews from Buckeyes tackle Josh Simmons.</p><p>“Coach Frye is a genius not only at teaching plays but teaching you why the play is being called to a certain look at stuff like that,” said Simmons. “I knew coach Frye was gifted at this sort of thing.”</p><p>Therefore, Booker enters the NFL in good hands.</p><h2><b>Edge rusher is the Round 2 direction</b></h2><p>Ole Miss stud Princely Umanmielen got snapped up by the Cardinals in another good selection. Edge is the team’s biggest need, and Umanmielen could provide an instant upgrade in the quarterback-chase department.</p><p>“Princely Umanmielen’s collegiate production speaks for itself,” PFN wrote. “But it’s really his physical attributes and high motor that make Umanmielen an intriguing prospect. He’s explosive off the snap and has the speed to give opposing offensive tackles fits off the edge. His combination of speed and length gives him significant physical upside to work with at the next level.”</p><p>Like all rookies, Umanmielen will enter the league with things that need to be fixed.</p><p>“(He) could struggle early in his NFL career against the run due to play strength and leverage concerns,” PFN wrote. “But the spatial awareness is there for him to eventually become a solid contributor in those situations. His best role early on would likely be as a pass-rushing specialist, and he has the potential to develop into a quality three-down starter in either a base 3-4 or 4-3 defensive scheme.”</p><h2>WR Xavier Restrepo lands in Round 3</h2><p>Once again, the Cardinals hit paydirt. This is a solid third-round pick as the Miami product could develop into a a top-level threat.</p><p>“Xavier Restrepo is much more than a slot receiver,” PFN wrote. “While he thrives in the slot and over the middle, his versatility and sharp route running make him a rising NFL prospect. Restrepo’s ability to create separation, find holes in coverage, and adapt his routes to break defenses sets him apart.</p><p>“Though he’s neither the fastest nor the biggest, he plays with unmatched heart and ball skills, making him a complete package in 11 personnel. His flexibility and natural instincts are driving his climb up draft boards, showcasing a future as a dynamic, multi-faceted threat.”</p><p>That’s a lot of good stuff. Penix will appreciate having a dynamic receiver like Restrepo in his weapons case.</p><h2><b>Cardinals work the edge again in Round 4</b></h2><p>The hits keep coming. The Cardinals get North Carolina product Kaimon Rucker at a bargain value of Round 4.</p><p>“Kaimon Rucker … has produced at above-average levels throughout his college career, with 14.5 sacks and 23 tackles for loss in the past two seasons,” PFN wrote. “(He) has gotten pressure on over 15% of his pass-rushing snaps over the past two seasons thanks to a multitude of pass-rushing moves he can utilize to get around linemen. He is an above-average athlete who moves well in space and can get off the ball quickly.”</p><p>Rucker will need to work on run defense, especially setting the edge.</p><h2><b>Offensive line targeted again in Round 5</b></h2><p>If the Cardinals wanted depth, they got it here. Jackson Slater out of Sacramento State could develop into a fine player.</p><p>“Jackson Slater could be the next iteration of the small-school stud offensive lineman to become a starter in the NFL,” PFN wrote. “He was a standout at the Senior Bowl and an elite athletic tester at the NFL Combine, with 5.01 speed, a 1.78 10-yard split, and 31 bench reps at 6’3″, 311 pounds, with 32″ arms.”</p><p><i>The Cardinals hit the high points of their needs and did very well in this draft. Arizona finished the 2024 season 8-9 and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/cardinals-fans-wont-like-jonathan-gannons-reaction-to-playoff-elimination">barely missed the playoffs in a tight NFC West divisional race</a>. Now the Cardinals are making moves with the goal of finally finding some postseason success.</p><p>Cardinals QB Kyler Murray has not had much success in the playoffs during his career in Arizona. Murray <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDR4OmUuj_Q" rel="noopener">admitted as much during a recent interview</a> with KBS World.</p><p>“I’ve only been in the playoffs once,” Murray said. “That, in itself, is disappointing to me and frustrating. Got to turn that around. I’m only getting older. But I’m only 27, I’m still young, so we’ve got time and I know we’re headed in the right direction. As far as what I’m working on, just going to continue to grow. Continue to grow on and off the field.”</p><p>Arizona’s only playoff appearance in the Murray era was an 18-7 loss against the Rams in 2021.</p><p>Thankfully, the Cardinals have already made some offseason moves that should have Murray excited about the 2025 season.</p><p>Arizona made one of the biggest splashes in free agency, scooping up former Eagles pass rusher Josh Sweat. The Cardinals gave <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/cardinals-news-arizona-splash-76-million-josh-sweat-contract">Sweat a four-year, $76.4 million contract</a> to reunite with head coach Jonathan Gannon. He should immediately transform Arizona’s defense and make them much more dangerous when rushing the passer.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/cardinals-news-bolster-defense-29-million-dalvin-tomlinson-free-agency">Cardinals also added Dalvin Tomlinson to a two-year contract worth $29 million</a>. This comes from his $22.835 million salary and $10 million of his $17 million roster bonus. For context, Murray is guaranteed $32.6 million during the 2025 season.</p><p>Arizona signed murray to a <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/29036/kyler-murray" rel="noopener">five-year, $230 million contract</a> back in 2022.</p><p>The Cardinals need to win now more than ever with Kyler Murray. He is under contract through the 2028 NFL season, though there is a potential out after the 2027 season. The Arizona Cardinals quarterback hit a roster bonus during the 2025 offseason, increasing his guaranteed pay for the 2026 season.</p><p>By remaining on the Cardinals’ roster at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon, Murray is <a href="https://x.com/TomPelissero/status/1901000599849906449" rel="noopener">now guaranteed</a> $32.835 million in 2026, per Tom Pelissero. Hitting the quota guarantees his $22.835 million annual salary as well as $10 million of his $17 million roster bonus. The two contract clauses give Murray at least $30 million for the next two seasons, as he is guaranteed $32.6 million in 2025.</p><p>While his guaranteed rartes increased, Murray is still able to make up to roughly $46 million over the next three seasons. His current contract has him as the ninth-highest-paid quarterback in the league.</p><p>The 2025 and 2026 seasons are two of the five years on Murray’s current deal. The Cardinals quarterback inked a $230.5 million extension in the 2022 offseason to keep him in Arizona at least through the 2027 season. The new contract came after months of back-and-forth negotiations that seemingly created tension between the two sides.</p><p>After playing just eight games in an injury-shortened 2023 season, Murray is coming off a resurgent 2024 campaign. He threw for 3,851 yards on the year, his most since 2020. Without many offensive free agent signing — aside from veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett — the Cardinals are expecting a second-year leap from wideout Marvin Harrison Jr. to elevate the passing game.</p><p>While Harrison is coming off an encouraging rookie sweason, his 885 receiving yards were second on the team, behind tight end Trey McBride’s 1,146. However, as fans on social media pointed out, his numbers were nearly identical to those of his father, who went on to put together a Hall of Fame career.</p><p>The Cardinals’ biggest offseason moves came on the defensive end, where they added Josh Sweat, Dalvin Tomlinson and Akeem Davis-Gaither in free agency. Despite an 8-9 finish last year, the team believes it’s close to getting back into the playoffs after finishing just two games out of first place in the NFC West. The Cardinals hope they can add enough talent to the roster this offseason to compete for the division crown.</p><p>Arizona took <a href="https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1900004721793888464" rel="noopener">another step forward</a> by addressing a significant position of need when the team signed defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson to a two-year, $29 million contract, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on X. The deal includes $16 million guaranteed.</p><h2><b>The Cardinals use free agency to bolster defensive line</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Arizona-bolsters-defense-with-29-million-Dalvin-Tomlinson-addition-in-free-agency-v2.jpg"><figcaption>Ken Blaze-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Tomlinson has been a model of consistency since being selected in the second round of the 2017 draft by the New York Giants. He’s played 16 games in seven of his eight NFL seasons. And while he doesn’t produce gaudy numbers, he provides a much needed presence in the middle of the defensive line, plugging up running lanes and drawing blockers to free up pass rushers.</p><p>Last season he had a career-low 26 total tackles. He added three sacks, six tackles for a loss and 18 quarterback hits. However, Tomlinson’s contributions don’t necessarily translate to the stat sheet. He <a href="https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-interior-defender-rankings-top-32-2024-nfl-season" rel="noopener">ranked 26th</a> in the league among interior defensive lineman ahead of the 2024 season, according to PFF.</p><p>The Cardinals need to build up their defensive line. Last year, Arizona ranked 20th in run defense, allowing 126.4 yards per game. That’s clearly an area of concern that head coach Jonathan Gannon wants to improve.</p><p>Tomlinson became available after the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/browns-news-dalvin-tomlinson-release-after-myles-garrett-extension">Cleveland Browns released him</a> in an effort to create cap space for Myles Garrett’s massive $160 million extension. Now the Cardinals hope he can be a major contributor to the team in his age-31 season.</p><p>Arizona also landed former Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher Josh Sweat on a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/cardinals-news-arizona-splash-76-million-josh-sweat-contract">four-year, $76.4 million deal</a>. The specifics of the deal have yet to be released.</p><p>Brissett is entering his 10th year in the league. While he’s primarily functioned as a QB2 since being selected in the third round of the 2016 draft, the veteran passer will bring plenty of experience with him to Arizona, having made 53 career starts.</p><h2><b>Jacoby Brissett is set to join the Cardinals for 2025</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Jacoby-Brissett.jpg"><figcaption>Paul Rutherford-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Last season, Brissett signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the New England Patriots. However, after going 2-4 over his first six games, he was benched in favor of Maye, who went on to have a promising rookie campaign.</p><p>Now Brissett will head to the Cardinals, taking on a backup role. Murray was able to play all 17 games last season but he has missed significant time in recent years. The Pro Bowl QB was sidelined for 18 games over the last four seasons. While Arizona obviously hopes Murray can stay healthy in 2025, the team has upgraded its depth behind him.</p><p>Clayton Tune had operated as Murray’s backup the last two years. He held onto the role after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/cardinals-news-arizona-releasing-desmind-ridder-clayton-tune-wins-backup-role">beating out Desmond Ridder</a> last offseason. But Brissett’s addition likely means Tune is ultimately released.</p><p>Brissett will reunite with Drew Petzing in the desert. The Cardinals’ offensive coordinator was the quarterbacks coach for the Browns in 2022, the season Brissett played in Cleveland. Jones will return to the Cardinals on a one-year deal that is worth $4.4 million. Jones has been with the Cardinals for just one season as he was previously with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and there was a chance that he would be on the move again this offseason. That will not be the case.</p><p>“Sources: The #Cardinals are re-signing WR Zay Jones to a 1-year, $4.4M deal,” Jordan Schultz said in a post.</p><p>Zay Jones played his college football at East Carolina, and he was selected by the Buffalo Bills with the 37th overall pick in the 2017 draft. The former Pirate has now been in the NFL for eight seasons, and he has spent time with four different teams.</p><p>Jones played for the Bills during the first three years of his career before joining the Las Vegas Raiders. He was also with the Raiders for three years before spending two seasons with the Jaguars. Jones’ first season with the Cardinals was last year, and he is now coming back at least one more.</p><p>We have never seen anything crazy special from Jones since his NFL career began, but he has always been a reliable target. He had a nice breakout season during his second year in the league as he racked up seven touchdowns, which is still his career-best. The deal was negotiated by Sean Kiernan and Tom Povinelli of @AthletesFirst.”</p><p>Brown is coming off his sixth season in the league and first with the Cardinals, during which he made 17 appearances — all starts.</p><p>Brown was a key piece of <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/cardinals-news-kyler-murray-love-injury-update-key-protector">Arizona’s offensive line last season</a>. And the Arizona Cardinals got their guy, <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1899176064917873143" rel="noopener">signing Super Bowl champion</a> edge rusher Josh Sweat to a four-year contract, per  Adam Schefter on X.</p><p>“Josh Sweat and the Cardinals reached agreement on a 4-year deal worth $76.4 million, including $41 million guaranteed,” Schefter wrote. “Deal negotiated by Drew Rosenhaus.”F</p><p>Following <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/eagles-news-josh-sweat-believes-shouldve-won-jalen-hurts-super-bowl-mvp">his performance in Super Bowl LIX</a> against the Kansas City Chiefs, there was a strong belief that Sweat would sign elsewhere.</p><p>However, the contract details are a bit surprising.</p><p>Sweat was seen as one of the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/2025-nfl-free-agents-post-super-bowl-ranking-top-players-available-offseason">top edge rushers available in free agency</a>, the Cardinals locked the 27-year-old down for the next few years.</p><p>Although the verbiage of his agreement states that it’s a four-year deal, NFL contracts usually have an out for the team before the deal truly expires. NFL contracts are a tricky business, but that’s why guaranteed money is always a draw for players signing deals.</p><p>However — from the agent’s point of view — it looks better for them if their client agrees to a four-year deal worth $76.4 million (only $41 million guaranteed) than signing a two-year deal worth $41 million.</p><p>But regardless of the verbiage, the Cardinals’ defense gets a much-needed boost from the edge with Sweat.</p><p>In 2024 alone, Sweat ended the season with 41 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and eight sacks. And in the playoffs, Sweat was a major contributing factor to the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory.</p><p>Against the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, Sweat was credited with six tackles, three quarterback hits, and two-and-a-half sacks.</p><p>So, for a Cardinals defense that ended 2024 with 41 sacks, they get a premier pass rusher in Sweat.</p><p>Now, 41 sacks don’t put Arizona in a spot where they’re seen as a bad pass-rushing team. However, that’s always a position for teams that could probably use some extra juice.</p><p>In fact, the Cleveland Browns — who just <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/browns-news-myles-garrett-trade-saga-ends-historic-extension-160-million">signed Myles Garrett to a historic contract</a> — could take the best pass-rusher in the 2025 NFL Draft: Abdul Carter.</p><p>Elite pass rushers are rare to come by, so — when they’re available in free agency — teams should probably at least try to sign them.</p><p>And to beat out the other bidding teams, the Cardinals were aggressive in their offseason splash in free agency, signing Josh Sweat to a four-year contract worth $76.4 million and $41 million guaranteed.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
