In his first three NFL seasons, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/green-bay-packers/packers-news-matt-lafleur-sends-christian-watson-injury-warning">Christian Watson has seen his share</a> of injuries. And that’s why he is one obvious Packers trade candidate entering the 2025 training camp.</p><p>Looking at the Packers’ wide receiver room, it’s well-stocked with depth. They have Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, and Romeo Doubs currently listed as starters in three-wide sets. On the second team, they have Dontayvion Wicks, Savion Williams, and Watson. But even beyond that, the Packers have Mecole Harman, Bo Melton, and Malik Heath as third-team candidates.</p><p>So it’s to see the Packers could afford to deal from the wide receiver position.</p><h2><b>Packers could deal WR Christian Watson</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/full-1_ac98f5.jpg"></figure><p>It should have become painfully obvious to Watson what the Packers were thinking when they selected a wide receiver (Golden) in the first round of the draft. But the writing on the wall got thicker when they grabbed Williams in the third round.</p><p>Another thing not helping Watson is his vast potential. Each year, it seems he has been the guy who would break out. His seven-touchdown rookie season set the bar high. But in each of the past two years, Watson has been held below 30 receptions. He did score five touchdowns in 2023, but managed only two last year.</p><p>Watson is coming off an ACL injury, which would make it more difficult for the Packers to trade him. But his workout videos could pique the interest of other teams. Watson looked like he was moving full speed in a video post on X by Zach Jacobson.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">Christian Watson just posted this on his Instagram story. I’m not (on the) medical staff. So we’ll see where he’s at.”</p><h2><b>WR Christian Watson looking for payday</b></h2><p>Watson is in a precarious spot because this is the final year of his rookie contract. He needs to put a healthy year on the board if he wants to get big bucks in the offseason. Watson said he’s working hard.</p><p>“I’ve got a couple more months ahead of me,” Watson said. “But I’m attacking it every day. I’m in a really good spot. I was raised to be a fighter and to chase after the things that I want. I’ve gotten a lot in my life so far, but there’s still a lot of things that I want, so I’m going to keep on fighting for it.”</p><p>There’s no doubt the Packers value Watson. Earlier in the offseason, LaFleur talked about what he means to the team.</p><p>“It doesn’t help when you lose a guy like Christian Watson,” LaFleur said. “And who knows when we’ll get him back. His physicality, his speed, he’s an intelligent player. You could move him from position to position within a game, and not everybody can handle that. That is a big loss for us, but those other guys are going to have to pick up the slack.”</p><h2><b>Packers trying to find right speed combination</b></h2><p>The Packers have tried to replace Watson’s speed by bringing in Hardman.</p><p>“We brought in Mecole, and he’s got a lot of speed,” General Manager Brian Gutekunst said. “Certainly, Jayden fits that bill as well. Luke Musgrave is a guy if we can consistently keep out on the field, provides a speed element that can stretch the defense, so I think we have that ability even without Christian.</p><p>“Christian’s a pretty dynamic guy, there’s not many guys like him in our league. So when he’s out there it certainly changes things. Getting him healthy down the stretch will be a really important part of that, but I do think we can handle that as we are.”</p><p>The biggest thing is that the Packers have the depth to trade Watson. And the team has needs on the defensive side of the ball. Cutting bait with Alexander means the cornerback room won’t be as strong. So the Packers might explore a deal where they get a starting-level cornerback in exchange for Watson.</p><p>This is a Super Bowl hopeful season for the Packers. They have many of the pieces in place to make a run for it. So the right kind of deal in the summer might be enough to push them over the top.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

With their young core, the Packers have made the postseason two straight years and are led by a starting quarterback in Jordan Love, who should continue to ascend.</p><p>One positional group for the franchise that has drawn a lot of attention is the wide receiver core. Green Bay made an eye-opening move, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/green-bay-packers/packers-news-jordan-love-post-nfl-draft-message-matthew-golden">selecting Texas standout Matthew Golden</a> with the No. 23 overall pick. The 21-year-old is an explosive athlete with strong hands who is known as an elite route runner. Golden is projected to contribute right away for the Packers, and based on a recent report, he could be pushing out two key contributors on the roster from the past few years. Also, here is one perfect move the Packers need to make to fill out their roster before the team’s 2025 training camp.</p><p>The Packers will begin their training camp on July 18 with the rookies reporting to Lambeau Field. Samuel underwent neck surgery in April. He’s due for a check-up in early July. If that goes well, he will likely find a home. If it doesn’t, the Packers might want to look elsewhere.</p><p>The thing about Green Bay is that this could be a Super Bowl season. The Packers don’t want to get clipped because they let one position group get too vulnerable. Yes, it’s understandable that the team felt it could not rely on Alexander to get on the field. But they have to replace him other than what they have in-house.</p><p>Green Bay didn’t pick a cornerback in the draft until round No. 7. And that pick, Micah Robinson, can’t be counted on to step in and play a ton of snaps.</p><p>The current starters are Carrington Valentine and Keisean Nixon. Kamal Hadden and Robinson stand on the second team right now. Bringing in Nate Hobbs and Keisean (Nixon) stepping up like he did, and Carrington (Valentine) going (into the lineup), I think that’s what allows us to be a better football team than we were last year, just those guys having more experience.”</p><p>He continued with his statement.</p><p>“Because the reality is, Jaire wasn’t on the field for us much at all the past couple years. It’s a shame. He was such a good player for us, and it’s just one of those things where we would have loved for it to work out in some way, but I think over the last four years with what we were paying him and his ability to stay on the field, that was just something where it was time to move on.”</p><p>Alexander missed 20 games in the last two seasons. A majority of what you saw the Packers become over the last two seasons they accomplished without him. Finding an elite cornerback is not easy, but the team believes they can win games without one this season.</p><p>The Packers will rely on Hobbs and Valentine to be the top corners this season. Hobbs is in Green Bay after four seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders. Valentine is entering his third season with the Packers. Nixon is a veteran who has also played for the Raiders. He enters year seven.</p><p>On paper, the team is definitely thin at the position. All have two years left on their contract, and Policy has let it be known that he doesn’t think they should be working on the last year of their deals without a contract.</p><p>LaFleur, Gutekunst, and executive vice president Russ Ball will all report to Ball when it comes to making team decisions, which is something that outgoing president Mark Murphy put in place before 2018. When asked about their contract situation, Policy <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45524237/nfl-green-bay-packers-president-ed-policy-mark-murphy-lafleur" rel="noopener">had a firm take</a>.</p><p>“All three of them [are] under multi-year contracts,” Policy said via ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. “None of them are up at the end of this year. We won’t be doing anything going into this season.”</p><p>The Packers have had success the past two seasons, and the credit can be given to the front office and coaching staff for how they built the team. As they try to build on that success, it would be best if they kept everyone together, and it looks like Policy will have the final say when it comes to those types of decisions.</p><h2><b>Packers incoming CEO has a plan</b></h2><p>Policy is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure the Packers are winning football games, whether that’s making changes to the top or making specific roster moves. When it comes to the top, he has a certain approach to how he wants to handle things.</p><p>“I’m generally opposed — I’d never say never — [but] I’m generally opposed to a coach or GM going into the last year of their contract,” Policy said. “That creates a lot of issues. I think normally you have a pretty good idea of where that relationship is going when you have two years left — not always, but normally.</p><p>“So I think generally speaking, I would avoid lame-duck status. It’s oftentimes difficult on everybody involved. But there are certain situations that probably call for it, so I would not say never.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/packers-news-matt-lafleur-reveals-intriguing-experiment">LaFleur has seen a lot of success</a> with the Packers as head coach, and there’s no doubt that he will continue to do so. But they have <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/green-bay-packers/green-bay-packers-underrated-sleepers-who-could-break-out-2025-nfl-season">reeled in a few guys</a> who could be sleepers. And here are the two hottest Packers takes coming out of the team’s 2025 minicamp.</p><p>At the forefront of the discussion is Bo Melton doing his best Travis Hunter impression. Melton, a receiver, has been working at cornerback. The extra work could give him a better shot at making the 53-man roster.</p><h2><b>Packers WR Bo Melton trying to become valuable</b></h2><p>He’s a third-string wide receiver, but he already had value as a kick returner. Now, he’s adding to his arsenal. Melton’s speed made him a candidate for the other side of the ball during his rookie season in 2023.</p><p>Melton had a big game at receiver in 2023, totaling 105 yards on six catches against the Vikings in Week 17. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said Melton has <a href="https://www.packers.com/news/bo-melton-testing-his-versatility-at-cornerback-this-summer-2025" rel="noopener">plenty of skills</a>, according to packers.com.</p><p>“Obviously, he’s a real talented player and has produced,” said LaFleur. “I just love everything about the guy. How he shows up every day ready to compete and give his best effort — matter of fact, I showed some clips of him in the team meeting … just of what he does.”</p><p>Known for his speed, Melton was first presented with the idea of playing cornerback while he was on Green Bay’s practice squad back in 2023. The coaches, impressed by Melton’s work on special teams, asked him if he’d ever played corner before.</p><p>With the Packers loading up in the draft at the already deep receiver position, it makes sense for Melton to find another way to help the team.</p><h2><b>It’s not an easy task for Bo Melton</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Green-Bay-Packers-WR-Bo-Melton.jpg"><figcaption>Dan Powers-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>For Melton to succeed on both sides of the ball, he would need plenty of extra work. That makes it tough, said Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst.</p><p>“There are very few guys who have done it in our league,” said Gutekunst. “There have been a few. And when a guy’s able to do that, it certainly helps your football team. Bo is everything we want in a football player out there as far as his ability as a receiver, certainly on (special) teams. If he’s able to add to his arsenal, that makes him really, really valuable to us.”</p><p>Melton said he knows it might be a leap for him to play well enough at cornerback to help an NFL team.</p><p>“It’s just something they want to look at,” Melton said. “I’m still a wide receiver. So I’m not really transitioning to no cornerback. But if it works, it works.”</p><h2><b>Packers WR room very crowded</b></h2><p>When looking at the overall picture, it’s easy to see the Packers are plenty deep at the wide receiver position.</p><p>How deep? Well, consider that offseason signee Mecole Hardman is a third-teamer right now. In front of him are Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, and Romeo Doubs.</p><p>That trio is listed as the starting group. On the second team are Christian Watson, Dontayvion Wicks, and Savion Williams. Hardman leads the third team, ahead of Melton, and Malik Heath. That’s a crowded group.</p><p>It’s <a href="https://www.packers.com/news/vibes-are-good-amongst-packers-wide-receivers-2025" rel="noopener">all good for</a> quarterback Jordan Love, according to packers.com. Running back Josh Jacobs seemed to set the receivers on edge because of his comments that the team needed a bona fide No. 1 receiver.</p><p>“It’s just about pushing them to want to be great … trying to help them see it in themselves,” Jacobs said. “That’s what our team needs.”</p><h2><b>Jordan Love said there’s plenty of competition</b></h2><p>Love said the battles have been intense. And he added that it’s a good thing that will only serve to make the team better.</p><p>“There’s always going to be competition,” Love said. “I don’t think any of those guys are shying away from competition. They all want to be the best and be out there on the field.</p><p>“We’ve got a great group of guys. They all know what the main objective is that we’re trying to get done here, and they know they’re going to get those opps that come their way … I’m going to try to find the guy who’s open. They all know that. Nobody’s being sensitive about the number of targets right now. Everybody’s just working to get better.”</p><p>Golden, the rookie first-round pick, has also pushed the veteran players and looks like a starter right off the bat. Reed said he’s trying to help the new guys get better.</p><p>“That’s what I’m trying to do because I’ve been in their position as well,” Reed said when asked about taking Golden under his wing, helping and coaching when necessary. “It’s not easy to learn plays, and it’s a lot of chaos as a rookie. He’s been doing a phenomenal job.</p><p>“He’s picked it up probably faster than I did, so I commend him on that, and Savion as well. They’re always around. She probably was able to borrow his jacket for the show, knowing it would annoy the Green Bay crowd.</p><h2><b>Why did the Packers fans boo WWE’s Becky Lynch during RAW?</b></h2><p>Of course, Packers fans were not pleased with Lynch wearing one of their division rival’s merchandise. Some may call it cheap heat, as wrestlers poking fun at a rival team is nothing new.</p><p>We will see if Lynch continues to troll other fanbases at future events. It is possible she only did this because her husband is a known fan of the Bears.</p><p>For years, the Bears were terrorized by Aaron Rodgers when he played for the Packers. He went 24-5 as a starter against them, which is a win percentage of nearly 83%.</p><p>The Bears split their two games against the Packers in 2024. As Lynch noted, the Bears beat the Packers, who were led by backup quarterback Malik Willis, in the regular season finale.</p><p>Lynch is the current Women’s Intercontinental Champion. She appears to be on a collision course with not just Lyra Valkyria, who she beat for the title, but also Bayley, whom she attacked to take her WrestleMania 41 spot back in April.</p><p>Before her current Women’s Intercontinental Championship reign, Lynch was on an extended hiatus. She started her break after losing the Women’s World Championship to Liv Morgan in May 2024.</p><p>She then returned to WWE at WrestleMania 41, filling in for an attacked Bayley as Valkyria’s tag team partner against Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. The Matt LaFleur era has been successful for the Packers. Green Bay has been to the playoffs in five of LaFleur’s six seasons, but has not been to the Super Bowl, falling in the NFC Championship game in both of his first two seasons. Further, the Packers have not won the division since 2021, and this year, they lost in the Wild Card round to the Philadelphia Eagles. While the focus is on improving in the 2025 season, the Packers will also make moves between now and the start of training camp. These are the three Packers in danger of being cut after the 2025 minicamp.</p><p>Green Bay has already made moves this offseason, even before minicamp. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/green-bay-packers/packers-news-green-bay-final-jaire-alexander-decision-trade-rumors">Packers cut Jaire Alexander before the start of camp</a>. Meanwhile, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/green-bay-packers/elgton-jenkins-mandatory-minicamp-status-amid-contract-dispute">Green Bay did see Elgton Jenkins report to mandatory minicamp</a>, while still working through a contract dispute. The Packers have also made some other offseason moves. The Packers brought in Mecole Hardman and Isaiah Simmons this offseason. They also moved on from players such as Eric Stokes and AJ Dillon.</p><p>The Packers will also make moves before the start of training camp in July. The front office and coaching staff with work together to find the best combination of players for the upcoming season. These are players who could unexpectedly find themselves as free agents very soon.</p><h2><b>The Packers cut a recently signed free agent</b></h2><p>The Pack has a crowded wide receiver room currently. Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed both return from last season. Reed led the team in receiving last season, coming away with 55 receptions for 857 yards and six scores. Meanwhile, Doubs played in just 13 games, but had 46 receptions for 601 yards and four scores. Further, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/green-bay-packers/packers-news-matt-lafleur-sends-christian-watson-injury-warning">Christian Watson is working towards a return from injury</a>. He was solid last year, with 29 receptions for 620 yards and two touchdowns. Finally, Dontayvion Wicks played in all 17 games for the Packers, having 39 receptions for 415 yards and five scores.</p><p>Beyond the returning production, the Packers made moves in the NFL draft at wide receiver. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/green-bay-packers/packers-news-brian-gutekunst-eye-opening-matthew-golden-take-after-drafting-texas-star">Packers used the 23rd pick in the NFL Draft to bring in Matthew Golden</a>. Golden was impressive at the combine, running a 4.29-second 40-yard dash. He also had a solid final year at Texas, coming away with 987 yards and nine touchdowns. Golden could be a day-one starter in Green Bay, making the receiving room even more crowded. The Packers then used a third-round pick on former TCU receiver Savion Williams.</p><p>With four returning wide receivers, plus two rookies, Mecole Hardman may not be long for Green Bay.  Hardman is a former second-round draft pick from 2019 by the Kansas City Chiefs. As a rookie, he had a Pro Bowl season. Still, he missed time in the 2022 season and would then sign with the Jets in 2023. After losing his starting spot there, Hardman was traded back to the Chiefs in 2023 and would return there in 2024. Still, he has just 208 receiving yards in 18 games since returning to the Chiefs. He would be used primarily as a punt returner last season, but his punt return ability may not be enough to keep him on the roster in Green Bay.</p><h2><b>Green Bay moves on from a running back</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Green-Bay-Packers-running-back-MarShawn-Lloyd-32-runs-with-the-ball-as-Cleveland-Browns-linebacker-Caleb-Johnson-48-defends.jpg"><figcaption>Ken Blaze-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The primary running back in Green Bay is Josh Jacobs. He ran the ball 301 times last season for 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns. Still, there is a potential battle for the backup spot behind Jacobs. Emanuel Wilson got the bulk of the carries behind Jacobs and was solid for the Packers. He ran the ball 103 times, running for 502 yards and four touchdowns. Further, he also brought in a receiving touchdown last season.</p><p>The Packers also have Amar Johnson and Jalen White now on the roster, both of whom were undrafted free agents this past offseason. They also have Chris Brooks, who played in 15 games last year, running for 183 yards and a touchdown. This could all lead to MarShawn Lloyd being shown the door. Lloyd was a 2024 third-round draft pick for the Packers. Still, injuries have been an issue for him in his career. He missed all of the 2020 season in South Carolina due to a torn ACL, and then would miss time again in 2022. Lloyd transferred for the 2023 season to USC, but would start just two games. Still, it was his best season in college, and he declared for the NFL draft after.</p><p>This past season, Lloyd <a href="https://www.packers.com/news/packers-sign-rb-chris-brooks-to-active-roster-2024" rel="noopener">was placed on injured reserve</a> in September. Lloyd would become active later in the year, but then go on the non-football illness list in November. Overall, Lloyd would play in just one game, carrying the ball six times for just 15 yards. He also had one reception for three yards. With plenty of options to backup Jacobs, and Lloyd not being available, the Packers could move on from him soon.</p><h2><b>Kalen King finds himself as the odd man out</b></h2><p>With the release of Jaire Alexander, there is room on the roster for another corner. Regardless, the Packers have plenty of them currently on the roster. The Packers signed Nate Hobbs this offseason. The former Las Vegas Raider has steadily improved throughout his career. He played in just 11 games last year, but had an interception and also came away with 49 tackles. Hobbs <a href="https://www.packers.com/news/packers-sign-rb-chris-brooks-to-active-roster-2024" rel="noopener">is expected to start across from</a> Keisean Nixon this year.</p><p>The Packers also have Javon Bullard returning, as well as Valentine Carrington. Further, they drafted Micah Robinson in the seventh round of the NFL Draft this past season. With multiple corners available, one of them will be the odd man out. Considering the history of Kalen King already in Green Bay, it is very possible that King is going to be the one to go.</p><p>King was a seventh-round draft pick by the Packers in 2024, after leaving Penn State early for the NFL Draft. He was released at the end of the pre-season, but did come back to the practice squad. He was <a href="https://www.packers.com/news/packers-elevate-cb-kalen-king-for-gameday-wk-14-2024" rel="noopener">elevated to the active roster in week 14</a>, but did not find playing time. While the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, and Green Bay Packers all made the playoffs last year, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-news-espn-49ers-bears-patriots-chance-turnaround">Chicago Bears may have had the busiest offseason</a> of the bunch. And according to Packers insider Rob Demovsky, they had the best offseason of the four teams in their division.</p><p>After a disappointing 2024 campaign, the Bears spent much of the offseason working on giving second-year quarterback Caleb Williams more support. The first move saw them lure the Lions former offensive coordinator, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/chicago-bears/bears-news-hiring-ben-johnson-next-head-coach">Ben Johnson, to town to be their new head coach</a> with his main goal being to revamp the offensive line in front of Williams. Head coach Ben Johnson clearly seems to have a plan for how he will use Loveland to use a premium draft pick on him.</p><p>“Teams don’t draft tight ends in the top 10 without expecting them to make an immediate impact,” Bears insider Courtney Cronin wrote. “With Johnson calling the shots, Loveland could be the type of weapon that Sam LaPorta was for the Lions as a rookie (10 touchdowns).”</p><p>Cronin is not the first to point out <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/chicago-bears/bears-news-big-ten-coaches-analyze-colston-loveland-tyler-warren-pick">the similarities between Loveland and LaPorta</a>. Chicago does already have Cole Kmet at tight end, but that should not stop Johnson from scheming up plays for Loveland.</p><p>Loveland also received votes from Vikings insider Kevin Seifert and Lions insider Eric Woodyard.</p><h2><b>Will any NFC North rookie challenge Colston Loveland during 2025 NFL season?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Colston-Loveland_ca15d4.jpg"><figcaption>Mandatory Credit: Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>But Colston Loveland did not run away with the competition unopposed.</p><p>The only dissenting opinion came from Packers insider Rob Demovsky, who made an argument for <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/green-bay-packers/packers-news-jordan-love-assessment-matthew-golden-nfl-progress">rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden</a>.</p><p>“When you’re the first receiver your team has drafted in Round 1 since 2002, you’d better show it was worth it. And Golden has the opportunity to do just that,” Demovsky wrote. “The receiver picked No. 23 overall by the Packers should get plenty of playing time right away, especially considering receiver Christian Watson’s knee injury will keep him out at the start of the season. As soon as Golden arrived for the Packers’ offseason program, he seemed to immediately jell with Love.”</p><p>It is certainly possible to make a strong argument for Golden over Loveland. The Bears have a huge arsenal of offensive weapons to choose from, which could limit Loveland’s opportunities during his rookie season.</p><p>Meanwhile, Golden projects as the top wide receiver in Green Bay. That does not mean he is guaranteed more production, but he will certainly be given more opportunities to succeed.</p><p>It will be interesting to see which of these two rookies has the more productive rookie season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
