The team is coming off of a narrow divisional round playoff loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, and has already made some major moves this offseason by <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/los-angeles-rams/rams-news-les-snead-defends-davante-adams-splitting-cooper-kupp">releasing Cooper Kupp and signing Davante Adams.</a></p><p>Recently, Mike Sando of The Athletic reported on how some executives around the league <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6244284/2025/04/03/nfl-free-agency-2025-nfc-execs-best-worst/" rel="noopener">are skeptical of</a> Adams’ fit in Los Angeles.</p><p>“Davante is a little better separator (than Kupp), but there has been a dropoff in his ability to get consistently open,” one exec said.</p><p>Sando also noted that executives “also wondered how Adams would fit in McVay’s scheme, which often puts receivers in condensed sets and features them as blockers,” potentially evolving in the same way Larry Fitzgerald did later in his career.</p><p>“Larry was willing to get rugged, block, do some dirty work over the middle,” another exec said, casting doubt as to whether or not Adams would be able to succeed in that role.</p><h2><b>A big move for the Rams</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Adams-vs-the-Dolphins.jpg"><figcaption>Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>It’s been made clear over the last two years that Puka Nacua is the new number one receiver for the Rams moving forward, but that still didn’t make it any less surprising when the team announced their intention to release Kupp.</p><p>By signing Adams, the Rams give themselves a veteran wide receiver who is still more than capable of making big plays down the field, even if he isn’t quite the athlete that he was during his prime days with the Green Bay Packers.</p><p>Adams most recently suited up for the New York Jets, once again hauling in passes from Aaron Rodgers just as he did during his time in Green Bay.</p><p>Adams will now team up with another veteran quarterback, Matthew Stafford, who proved that he still has quite a bit left in the tank by helping the Rams turn around their season in 2024-25.</p><p>In any case, the Rams will now turn their attention to the NFL Draft, which is slated to get underway toward the end of the month.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Los Angeles went on a deep playoff run, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/los-angeles-rams/rams-most-to-blame-for-divisional-round-loss-to-eagles">coming painfully close to making an NFC Championship game appearance</a>. Now the Rams are reloaded and ready to make another playoff push during the 2025 season this fall.</p><p>The Rams were the talk of the NFL earlier in the offseason. Los Angeles <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/los-angeles-rams/sources-rams-float-matthew-stafford-trade-offer-top-10-pick">briefly flirted with the idea of trading QB Matthew Stafford</a>. Eventually, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/los-angeles-rams/rams-news-matthew-stafford-end-trade-speculation-agree-restructured-contract">the two sides agreed on a new contract</a>.</p><p>Several NFL executives were <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6244284/2025/04/03/nfl-free-agency-2025-nfc-execs-best-worst/" rel="noopener">interested to see what happened behind the scenes</a> with Stafford’s situation.</p><p>“I would love to know how the conversation with Stafford went and whether he felt jilted or appreciated by it,” an exec said. “They were able to give him the opportunity to see if the grass was greener without ever losing him. They could stand on that, and that is a really powerful thing for a team, especially if they felt good about their offer.”</p><p>One NFL executive believes that the Rams are secretly okay having Jimmy Garoppolo as their starting quarterback.</p><p>“I think secretly they have faith in Jimmy Garoppolo,” a third exec said. “You don’t mess around with your starting quarterback unless you are confident in the other guy.”</p><p>The executive is right that NFL teams do not play fast and loose with quarterbacks, especially franchise guys like Stafford. That said, the Rams are at a bit of a crossroads as a franchise. It may have made sense to move Stafford if the Rams were okay pivoting to a new strategy for one season.</p><h2><b>Rams QB Matthew Stafford excited about Davante Adams addition</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Matthew-Stafford_6a322d.jpg"><figcaption>Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Rams QB Matthew Stafford seems to be happy he stayed in Los Angeles.</p><p>Not only did Stafford get a huge pay day, he also got a new wide receiver to throw to. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/los-angeles-rams/grading-davante-adams-46-million-contract-rams">Los Angeles brought in Davante Adams in free agency</a>.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/los-angeles-rams/rams-news-matthew-stafford-big-time-take-davante-adams-addition">Stafford has nothing but respect for Adams</a> as one of the NFL’s better wide receivers.</p><p>“I have a ton of respect for him, the way he goes about his business and the way he plays the game,” Stafford said. “He’s been a big-time in this league for a long time, so happy to have him. I know he’s going to be a big addition to our team.”</p><p>Adams effectively replaces Cooper Kupp in LA’s offense. He studied journalism and communication at UConn.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Los Angeles Rams</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/eagles-news-nfl-gm-crushes-potential-tush-push-ban">‘Tush Push’ that has been popularized by the Philadelphia Eagles</a> in recent years was a hot topic this past week, with the NFL tabling a discussion on potentially banning the play, and Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay, who is for banning the play, <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/44490948/nfl-tush-push-brotherly-shove-rules-changes-philadelphia-eagles-green-bay-packers-buffalo-bills" rel="noopener">spoke on the discussions</a> he had with Eagles GM Howie Roseman and Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott.</p><p>“Sean [McDermott] and I have talked about this a little bit, just on the competition committee,” Sean McVay said, via Kalyn Kahler of ESPN. “Some of the pushback is about health and safety risks, and Howie made a great point about the fact that, hey, there’s other plays, well, why is that any different than a normal sneak, some of the short yardage and goal-line situations? I said, it’s a very valid point, and then I did acknowledge the fact that I didn’t like the optics [of the play], even though I know I sound like a hater, wanting it out, because you guys [the Eagles] do it better than anybody else. And they were telling me that I was a hater for that.”</p><p>Both McVay and McDermott seemingly are for getting rid of the play, with McDermott citing health reasons, despite there not being much information on that. McDermott emphasized that he is trying to do what is best for the game.</p><p>“You’ve got two or three passionate guys, coaches that, and in this case, Howie the GM, that are sharing their thoughts,” Sean McDermott said, via Kahler. “All three of us are about doing what’s best for the game.”</p><p>The Eagles and head coaches who previously worked under Nick Sirianni have come out in support of keeping the play. McVay with the Rams and McDermott with the Bills are two of the reported 16 in favor of banning the play, but there are more votes required to push that through. This time through the 2025 NFL Draft.</p><p>General manager Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay now hold this first: Los Angeles will have a first round selection for the second year in a row. The Rams will aim to secure another impactful day one pick in the same breath as Jared Verse. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/los-angeles-rams/rams-rumors-jaxson-dart-buzz-gets-louder-with-best-case-scenario-evaluation">Jaxon Dart is already linked as a Rams possibility</a> out of Ole Miss. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/los-angeles-rams/rams-news-la-surprisingly-lands-shedeur-sanders-latest-mock-draft">Shedeur Sanders even is a potential Rams QB</a>, per one mock draft.</p><p>We’re pulling something different here, though, in playing the role of Snead. We’ve turned to the <a href="https://www.pff.com/draft/nfl-mock-draft-simulator?ref=db8211bc-9e44-4d9a-8b36-ab968cf7ff64" rel="noopener">Pro Football Focus mock draft simulator</a> to compile every pick the Rams make through all seven rounds.</p><p>Who heads to the “Rams House” through this simulation? Long story short, Dart and Sanders don’t arrive. Matthew Stafford gains new intriguing weapons. Plus three past local stars come home.</p><h2><b>Round 1, Pick 26: TE Colston Loveland, Michigan </b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/COLSTON-LOVELAND-VS.-TEXAS.jpg"><figcaption>Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK</figcaption></figure><p>The Rams still need a downfield weapon. Even after securing Davante Adams to a massive deal and pairing him with Puka Nacua.</p><p>Tight end is a massive need. Tyler Higbee isn’t getting any younger and Colby Parkinson was a disappointment on the receiving end. Loveland plays more like an oversized wide receiver with his explosive route running and separation.</p><p>The Rams lure in a prospect compared to Detroit Lions star Sam LaPorta. With NFL Network draft expert Lance Zierlein <a href="https://www.nfl.com/prospects/colston-loveland/32004c4f-5645-6221-1f26-a303114b69f8" rel="noopener">making that stirring comparison. </a></p><h2><b>Round 2, Pick 90: LB Chris Paul Jr., Ole Miss </b></h2><p>The Philadelphia Eagles gashed the Rams up the middle with Saquon Barkley in the divisional round. Hence why inside linebacker rises as the next massive need in L.A.</p><p>Paul mostly played weakside linebacker and through a 4-2-5 scheme in Oxford. But he’s got the frame (6-foot-1, 222-pounds) to slide inside. He’s strong with his hands in disengaging blockers, then turning to his eyes to locate and destroy.</p><p>Rams need an Ernest Jones-type at ILB. The Southeastern Conference star looks like an ideal fit.</p><h2><b>Round 3, Pick 101: WR Tory Horton, Colorado State </b></h2><p>Here’s our first surprise from the Rams. Los Angeles picks a WR to close out day two, and uses one of its compensatory picks to add another weapon for Stafford.</p><p>Horton is even coming off knee surgery, which helped lower his stock. However, he established himself as a 1,000-yard threat at both Nevada and Colorado State. McVay will likely fall in love with Horton’s feet and ball-tracking ability.</p><p>Horton’s a former high school baseball outfielder too — giving him the edge in chasing down balls. He also is a California native having starred in Fresno during his prep years.</p><h2><b>Round 4, Pick 127: EDGE Oluwafemi Oladejo, UCLA </b></h2><p>He’s the first local Southern California star to stay home.</p><p>Defensive coordinator Chris Shula gains an intriguing versatile defender here. Oladejo switched from linebacker to edge rusher in Westwood. The move handed the 6-foot-3, 259-pounder strong rush instincts and tallying 13.5 tackles for a loss in 2024.</p><h2><b>Round 6, Pick 190: OT Jack Nelson, Wisconsin </b></h2><p>The Rams get rejected from entering the fifth round — the round that handed them stars Nacua, Kobie Turner and Kyren Williams.</p><p>But they turn to a familiar place that’s helped them with tackle play in Wisconsin. Nelson arrives as a potential successor for past Badgers star Rob Havenstein. He’s a plowing run blocker in the mold of past Wisconsin trench men. Nelson will need to improve his pass blocking, though.</p><h2><b>Round 6, Pick 195: CB Nohl Williams, California </b></h2><p>The Steelers handed the Rams this selection as part of the Kevin Dotson 2023 trade. L.A. lures in the nation’s top interception king here.</p><p>Williams improved his coverage patience and eyes during his Cal arrival. The UNLV transfer even picked off potential No. 1 pick Cam Ward in 2024. Many will grow concern over his 4.5 time in the 40. But the Rams need a proven ball hawk at CB and the Oxnard native is one of the best available.</p><h2><b>Round 6, Pick 201: CB/S Jaylin Smith, USC </b></h2><p>The Rams go back-to-back with So Cal natives in round six. This time plucking the Palmdale native and Trojans star Smith.</p><p>He’ll add needed versatility in the defensive back room — which potentially leads Smith to handle the “star” role Jalen Ramsey once held.</p><h2><b>Round 6, Pick 202: LB Jay Higgins, Iowa </b></h2><p>Los Angeles fills needed ILB depth with the All-American Higgins.</p><p>He’ll come with size limitations (measured at 6-feet, 220-pounds). Even though one mock draft has <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/los-angeles-rams/rams-news-la-surprisingly-lands-shedeur-sanders-latest-mock-draft">Shedeur Sanders going to the Rams,</a> it could be unlikely he falls to the No. 26 pick, but the Ole Miss quarterback could very well be.</p><p>In the latest ESPN column that tackled the latest buzz around the league and the draft, they asked, “What percentage chance would you put on Jaxson Dart going in Round 1, and which team makes the most sense?” and started with Jordan Reid. The analyst would have a high percentage chance and even say that Los Angeles is the<a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2025/insider/story/_/id/44416331/2025-nfl-draft-latest-buzz-rumors-news-prospects-risers-dart-pro-days-giants" rel="noopener"> “best-case scenario for him.”</a></p><p>“75%. Dart’s stock has continued to rise since the Senior Bowl,” Reid said. “He’s the third-best QB on my board, and with Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders likely going in the first six picks, there will be plenty of Day 1 landing spots for Dart. I’ve heard he’s actually the second-best QB on some teams’ boards. That bodes well for his first-round potential. Pairing Dart with Rams coach Sean McVay and allowing him to sit and develop behind Matthew Stafford for multiple seasons in L.A. would be the best-case scenario for him.”</p><p>Last season for the Rebels in his senior year, he threw for 4,279 yards to go along with 29 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed for 495 yards with three scores.</p><h2><b>Rams seen as an ‘obvious fit’ for Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Jaxson-Dart-on-March-1-2025.jpg"><figcaption>Kirby Lee-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/los-angeles-rams/los-angeles-rams-5-round-post-free-agency-frenzy-2025-nfl-mock-draft-per-pfn-simulator">Rams prepare for the NFL Draft</a>, they could pick Dart as being their quarterback of the future which was even briefly mentioned by other ESPN analyst Field Yates.</p><p>“90%. My mindset remains that two of the first three picks are likely to be quarterbacks, with the Titans zeroed in on Ward and the Giants still needing a young signal-caller — most likely Sanders,” Yates said. “Dart could start right away with a team such as the Steelers (No. 21), and the Saints (No. 9) or Rams (No. 26) might view him as an eventual starter.”</p><p>It also seems that Dart has a pretty good chance to be taken in the first round, likely after Cam Ward and Sanders, with analyst Matt Miller also citing Los Angeles as an “obvious fit for his service.”</p><p>“95%. I’m with Jordan and Field. I think it’s really likely Dart goes in Round 1,” Miller said. “In my talks with scouts this past week, the expectation is that his predraft process has been too successful for him to get past the first 32 picks. The three teams Field mentioned — the Steelers, Saints and Rams — are all obvious fits for his services. The only thing that would prevent him from getting picked in Round 1 is if Sanders fell to Pittsburgh at pick No. 21 overall, which in turn could push Dart down the board. This could be the perfect scenario for Sanders.</p><p>He won’t be thrown into the fire immediately. Not to mention, Stafford is likely a Hall of Famer. He has won a Super Bowl and has had a consistent and productive career.</p><p>Also with Sean McVay’s offensive scheme, there <a href="https://www.turfshowtimes.com/2024/6/19/24181885/sean-mcvays-rams-offense-film-study-x-o" rel="noopener">aren’t many like it</a>. The Rams have a growing defense and an elite receiver in Puka Nacua.</p><p>They have the pieces in place for a growing team. If the Rams were to draft Sanders, all the pieces can be locked and loaded when the Colorado football star is ready to go.</p><p>He won’t be rushed into a starting role and can learn effectively. For instance, Jordan Love was behind Aaron Rodgers for three seasons before starting.</p><p>Those were some of the most crucial years of his development. Love also got to develop under Rodgers, another likely Hall of Famer.</p><p>Either way, Sanders will still be at the top of the class. However, this could be the Rams dream scenario. So it would make sense for the Rams to look for his successor.</p><p>That’s what ex-GM Mike Tannenbaum thinks <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2025/story/_/id/44306389/2025-nfl-mock-draft-tannenbaum-exec-first-round-32-picks#lar" rel="noopener">in his version</a> of a mock draft.</p><p>“Matthew Stafford’s contract restructure will make him the Rams’ starter for at least another season,” Tannenbaum wrote. “But if I’m taking over the Rams’ GM role today, I’m absolutely eyeing the future.”</p><h2><b>Would QB Jaxson Dart fit nicely with Rams?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Jaxson-Dart.jpg"><figcaption>Kirby Lee-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Dart has surprised many NFL observers by running up the draft boards in recent weeks.</p><p>“Dart excelled in Lane Kiffin’s scheme at Ole Miss, throwing 72 touchdown passes over his three years in Oxford,” Tannenbaum wrote. “He has risen on draft boards in the past few months, too. He had a great week at the Senior Bowl and was, in my opinion, the best thrower at the combine. Dart has a sturdy lower frame and really good movement skills, and he has a lot of upside.”</p><p>Tannenbaum isn’t the only person who likes what he has seen from Dart. And there’s probably a high degree of doubt whether Dart would last until pick No. 26, where the Rams sit. The 6-foot-2, 223-pounder projects as a player who could develop into a <a href="https://www.nfl.com/prospects/jaxson-dart/32004441-5273-5504-d6f2-f2d3f25131e8" rel="noopener">starter in the league</a>, according to nfl.com.</p><p>One of things that helps Dart’s draft stock is his consistent progression in college.</p><p>“Three-year SEC starter who saw improvement in play and production season after season,” Lance Zierlein wrote. “Dart has a stocky build and average physical attributes but good makeup and intangibles. He’s fairly accurate and rarely overcomplicates things for himself. He won’t strike anyone as a running quarterback, but he can find tough yards on the ground.</p><p>“(Dart) can make full-field reads but looks more comfortable grazing from the trough of the simple. He will need to work with better anticipation and decisiveness to win in tight windows as a pro. Teams might see physical and play similarities between Dart and Brock Purdy, but such a pathway for Dart likely requires a balanced, ball-control passing attack that allows him to manage the game instead of driving it.”</p><p>The Rams have needs at tight end, offensive tackle, linebacker, and cornerback. Picking Dart would ignore every one of those needs. NFL Network projects the Rams to take a different Ole Miss player, cornerback Trey Amos.
