Afterwards, Harbaugh voiced his excitement, and also, his expectations.</p><p>“Yeah, I saw the plays, you know. He was out there.” Harbaugh <a href="https://twitter.com/Ravens/status/1700971777680134221" rel="noopener">cracked to the media</a>, courtesy of the team’s account on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “I’m proud of him, you know, I’m proud of him.”</p><p>“And he’s gonna tell you…there are so many things he expects to even do better. Right Zay?” Harbaugh asked as the receiver looked on.</p><p>Despite being a rookie, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-news-lamar-jackson-reacts-zay-flowers-performance-joint-practice-commanders" rel="noopener">Flowers figured heavily</a> into offensive coordinator Todd Monken’s gameplan. Quarterback Lamar Jackson targeted the rookie 10 times. No other individual player garnered more than three targets.</p><p>Flowers was clearly the winner on the day for the Ravens’ new look offense. After moving on from former offensive coordinator Greg Roman and replacing him with Monken, Baltimore was expected to lean less on the running game and open up the playbook for Jackson to throw more.</p><p>However, despite an efficient 17-of-22 day, Jackson managed just 169 yards in the air. He threw one interception and no touchdowns, and was sacked four times.</p><p>The other receiving effort of note belonged to Odell Beckham Jr. Playing in his first game since tearing his ACL in Super Bowl LVI, Beckham caught two passes for 37 yards, with most of that coming on a 29-yard reception.</p><p>The win came at a heavy <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-news-jk-dobbins-suffers-crushing-achilles-injury-week-1-texans" rel="noopener">cost to the Ravens</a> however, as the team lost running back J.K. Dobbins for the season after he tore his ACL in the game’s third quarter. That, in addition to already being without <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-news-receive-concerning-mark-andrews-update-ahead-of-week-1-showdown-vs-texans" rel="noopener">star tight end Mark Andrews,</a> who sat out Week 1 with a quad injury.</p><p>Baltimore’s offense might still be a work in progress, and health is certainly a concern. A little over a month since he was drafted by Baltimore, Flowers <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/zay-flowers-82299/" rel="noopener">signed a four-year deal</a> with the Ravens worth $14 million with a massive signing bonus of $7.2 million.</p><p>In the same month that the Ravens <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-2023-nfl-draft-class" rel="noopener">took Flowers off the board</a>, Baltimore inked the veteran Beckham to a one-year $15 million contract with a signing bonus nearly double the rookie’s at $13.8 million. Beckham, of course, isn’t a stranger himself to big contracts, as he once signed a five-year, $90 million deal with the New York Giants back in 2018 before he was traded a year later to the Cleveland Browns.</p><p>Before turning pro, Zay Flowers played four years with the Boston College Eagles. For the longest time, Baltimore had trouble surrounding Lamar Jackson with elite weapons. They have tried taking receivers in the draft, but all of their selections have been underwhelming at best. Now, though, they might have <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ravens-news-zay-flowers-heartwarming-gift-for-dad-after-being-drafted-by-baltimore" rel="noopener">struck gold</a> with Zay Flowers. The Boston college product was arguably the best wide receiver prospect in the 2023 draft.</p><p>How has Zay Flowers performed for the Ravens so far? Well, it seems to be going so well! His impressive performance all throughout Baltimore’s training camp has everyone excited. An official of the team <a href="https://www.espn.com/blog/baltimore-ravens/post/_/id/56902/hes-going-to-break-a-lot-of-ankles-will-zay-flowers-be-the-ravens-first-pro-bowl-wr" rel="noopener">had this to say</a> about the young WR, per ESPN.</p><p>“He’s going to break a lot of ankles this year,” a team official said on the sideline.</p><p>The Ravens are hoping that Flowers gets more than just ankle-breakers next season. One of the biggest criticisms of Baltimore during the Lamar Jackson era is their lack of a clear headliner at wide receiver. Jackson is a talented dual-threat quarterback, but his passing game has some holes. Many believe that having an elite WR1 could help Jackson fulfill his potential. Flowers is still young, but the talent and pedigree is there. He can easily be a headliner for an NFL team, whether it’s this season or next season.</p><p>Aside from Flowers, the Ravens went and signed Odell Beckham Jr to a lucrative deal in the offseason. At this point in his career, OBJ is best suited to be a secondary option behind a top-tier guy.
