Longtime San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-indianapolis-makes-philip-rivers-signing-official">signed with the Indianapolis Colts</a> this week for a chance to start at quarterback. The Colts are hoping that Rivers can keep them on the track to making the playoffs.</p><p>The Colts battle with the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday afternoon, which will have a ton of eyes watching. People want to see the 44-year-old sling the rock; however, his status to start is still up in the air. There is a good chance we will find out on Saturday if Rivers will start or not, according to Tom Pelissero.</p><p>Pelissero joined the Rich Eisen Show to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=7&amp;v=2I004hqRpOs&amp;feature=youtu.be" rel="noopener">discuss the ongoing development</a>.</p><p>“The final decision, from what I understand, is not going to come until at least Saturday on Philip Rivers. Which makes sense.”</p><p>“He’s 44, I’m 44, I’m not attempting to play in the NFL, but anytime I undertake any physical activity that I have not done in a while, when I go out to briefly shovel a little bit of my driveway that might not have been cleared off well enough, if I lift any boxes, or if I get out of bed a certain way. I wait until the next day to see, am I going to be feeling this for a while here. Did I injure anything?”</p><p>“They are trying to be as deliberate as they can with Philip Rivers.”</p><p>As seen during the week, Rivers was thrown out there and was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-philip-rivers-preparing-to-start-seahawks-in-week-15">splitting reps with the first-team</a>. Either Riley Leonard or Philip Rivers will be under center in Week 15.</p><p>Leonard, while less experienced, was at least Indianapolis’ backup. Rivers may be a future Hall of Famer, but he hasn’t played in the NFL since 2020. He has been able to practice, but Leonard has been splitting first-term reps with Rivers. The Colts will wait to make their starting QB decision until they have all their ducks in a row.</p><p>It’d be a bit shocking to see<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-frank-reichs-powerful-message-philip-rivers-nfl-comeback"> Indianapolis bring Rivers out of retirement</a> just to have him ride the bench. Furthermore, the fact he is already taking first-team reps show head coach Shane Steichen is at least getting him more acclimated into the offense. Leonard may know more about Indianapolis’ current playbook. But Rivers is coming to the Colts with plenty of accolades.</p><p>Eight Pro Bowls to be exact. The quarterback has thrown for 63,440 yards and 421 touchdowns over his 17-year NFL career. In turn, Leonard had attempted just two NFL passes before filling in when Jones suffered his Achilles injury.</p><p>At 8-5, the Colts are still firmly in the playoff race. He's also an award-winning author and Ken Jeong's best friend.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Celebrity</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Years ago, the legendary <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/10-oldest-players-to-ever-play-in-the-nfl">Warren Moon played at 44 with the Kansas City Chiefs</a>, and now, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-philip-rivers-preparing-to-start-seahawks-in-week-15">Philip Rivers will do that with the Indianapolis Colts</a> after coming out of retirement.</p><p>However, Rivers’ comeback worries Moon, who <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2025/12/12/warren-moon-advice-nfl-quarterback-philip-rivers/" rel="noopener">knows what it’s like</a> to go through the rigors of an NFL season at 44 years old. Unlike Moon, though, Rivers hasn’t played recently. Moon played from 1978 to 2000. Rivers, meanwhile, has <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/los-angeles-chargers/colts-news-philip-rivers-retiring-17-nfl-seasons">been out of action for five years</a>.</p><p>Speaking to TMZ Sports, Moon talked about Rivers’ comeback. He knows some veteran quarterbacks like former Colts signal-caller Joe Flacco are still slinging the rock in his 40s, but he’s also been playing more consistently than Rivers.</p><p>“We’ve seen guys like Joe Flacco come back and do great coming out of retirement, but he wasn’t in retirement very long,” Moon said. “In this situation, I’m a little more alarmed because he’s been away from the game for so long.</p><p>“[Philip’s] been away for five years, and even though he’s been around the game, he’s coached the game, he probably still talks about it with his all-offensive coordinator, Shane Steichen, and all those guys, you just don’t know how his body is going to react to getting out there every day, the grind of practicing, how his body is going to feel after a week of practice,” he continued.</p><h2><b>Warren Moon’s advice for Philip Rivers ahead of Colts return</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Philip-Rivers_3fa32c.jpg"><figcaption>Mykal McEldowney/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The biggest concern Moon has is Rivers’ ability to process things quickly. So, he’s going to watch Rivers closely. He did have advice for him: “Rely on your running backs.”</p><p>He elaborated, “They’ve got a great running back [Jonathan Taylor] behind him that they can lean on, and their offensive line is going to have to really play well, really play physical to control the line of scrimmage and keep him out of long yardage situations.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Madden NFL 26 gave the 44-year-old quarterback <a href="https://x.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1999254213902369141" rel="noopener">a 70 overall rating</a>, per The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov.</p><p>Rivers was not a mobile QB even in his prime, so the idea of him <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-beat-reporter-convincing-philip-rivers-starting-seahawks">starting under center</a> after a considerable layoff is quite terrifying to some people. The Colts will also face some of the top defenses in the league during the final month of the regular season, beginning with a road matchup versus the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday. An extremely rare brand of desperation had to befall Indy in order to bring about this reunion, making it extremely difficult to foresee positive results.</p><p>But Rivers is a man of faith, and apparently, so are the people who assign Madden ratings. The eight-time Pro Bowler and 2013 Comeback Player of the Year ranks above a handful of other signal-callers who have started a game this season, including Russell Wilson and Shedeur Sanders. Though, one cannot overlook the potentially promising situation he is joining.</p><h2><b>Do the Colts have enough to support Philip Rivers?</b></h2><p>The Colts boast a solid offensive line, Jonathan Taylor has rushed for more yards and touchdowns than anyone else this season and Michael Pittman Jr. paces a formidable pass-catching group that also features standout rookie tight end Tyler Warren. Philip Rivers is not going to a broken franchise. Despite its obvious flaws, Indianapolis has an 8-5 record and is still in contention for a playoff berth.</p><p>Rivers ended his NFL career with the Colts after spending 16 years with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers. He completed 68 percent of his passes for 4,169 yards and 24 touchdowns in his final season. If he can shake off the rust and take care of the ball, then this reboot should be considered a success.</p><p>A 70 rating may not get the job done <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-vs-seahawks-bold-predictions-for-week-15-clash">against a 10-3 Seahawks squad</a>, however. Then, in a stunning twist, they brought in 44-year-old Philip Rivers for a workout, and then <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-indianapolis-makes-philip-rivers-signing-official">the Colts signed Rivers to a deal</a>.</p><p>Rookie Riley Leonard had also been dealing with an injury, although he <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-riley-leonard-full-participant-colts-practice-after-philip-rivers-signing">was listed as a full participant</a> going into Week 15’s game.</p><p>But, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-kurt-warner-shares-worrisome-concerns-philip-rivers-nfl-return">Rivers coming on board with the Colts sparked plenty of concerns</a> from across the landscape, and rightfully so. Rivers had been retired for a few years, is 44 years old, and the Colts are right in the middle of a playoff chase.</p><p>There have been questions about who will start on Sunday, but Colts beat reporter Stephen Holder of ESPN <a href="https://x.com/HolderStephen/status/1999202823175585825" rel="noopener">strongly feels it wil</a>l be Rivers.</p><p>“Two days in now, and my time in the building this week has left me only MORE convinced Philip Rivers is this week’s starting quarterback. It isn’t difficult to tell who a team is prepping to start. That player is Rivers. The 44-year-old quarterback will take over for <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-daniel-jones-tore-achilles-in-loss-to-jaguars">Daniel Jones, who tore his Achilles during Week 14</a>. One former quarterback is worried about how Rivers will transition back into the NFL life.</p><p>Former NFL QB Kurt Warner <a href="https://youtu.be/i7yExG567qU?t=129" rel="noopener">shared some worrisome concerns</a> he has about Rivers’ return to the NFL.</p><p>“Obviously it’s crazy, just from the standpoint of you think about age, and you think about the time out of the game,” Warner said on Wednesday via Scoop City. “I think the thing that I worry about the least is throwing the football. Because that’s a trait, you know I do a lot of training now and I hardly ever throw throughout the year, and I go and train a lot of guys. When I do that, I out throw all of them. Just because the technique, when you know how to do it, it’s like riding a bike. It comes back to you.”</p><p>Warner is more worried about <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-rumors-what-will-determine-if-philip-rivers-plays-vs-seahawks">the physical side of Rivers’ game</a>. He is not yet in optimal football shape and will be going up against elite athletes.</p><p>“Just the physical movement part of it, when you haven’t been doing something that is reactionary and has all this speed and these athletes around you,” Warner continued. “I’m curious how quickly that can come back and of course there’s little nuances to defenses that are different and to be able to get up to speed mentally to see it.”</p><p>Ultimately, Warner thinks that Rivers’ extended retirement will make it incredibly difficult to succeed in the NFL again. He clearly does not think he would succeed in Rivers’ shoes.</p><p>“I respect the game too much to think that I could sit out for five years and just come back and pick up where I left off,” Warner concluded.</p><p>That means something coming from Warner, who played in the NFL until the age of 38.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-philip-rivers-preparing-to-start-seahawks-in-week-15">Rivers is “preparing” to start in Week 15.</a> However, it remains to be seen if he’ll actually be ready to play then.</p><p>Either way, it will be fascinating to see how well Rivers plays whenever he makes his debut for the Colts.</p><p>Next up for the Colts is a Week 15 matchup against the Seahawks.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

However, as intriguing as the move was, many are skeptical about its practicality.</p><p>The Colts have yet to promote Rivers to their active roster, but they have not ruled out the possibility of starting him in Week 15. Some believe that Rivers’ return is <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6879121/2025/12/11/colts-philip-rivers-nfl-return-disaster/" rel="noopener">nothing more than a “fun story,”</a> according to an anonymous NFL executive.</p><p>“Fun story, but it’s going to be a disaster,” the executive told ‘The Athletic.’</p><p>The executive spoke to NFL insider Jeff Howe, who broke down the intricacies of Rivers’ unprecedented return from a five-year layoff. Howe pointed out how important players routinely state preseason training camps are, and how late in the season Rivers is attempting to intervene.</p><p>Rivers also told Dan Patrick in 2024 that he “could” still play an NFL game, but he would be “in a wheelchair” the following day, per Howe.</p><p>The Colts appear to be trying to replicate the Cleveland Browns’ success with Joe Flacco in 2023. The Browns brought in a 38-year-old Flacco late in the year, following an injury to DeShaun Watson, and watched him <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/browns-news-joe-flacco-wins-comeback-player-of-the-year-resurgence-with-cleveland">win the Comeback Player of the Year award</a>.</p><p>But even then, Rivers is six years older than Flacco was at that point, and Flacco had been in the league the year before. Rivers is literally coming off the couch after half a decade of enjoying his life with his family and becoming a grandfather.</p><h2><b>Colts’ quarterback situation with Philip Rivers</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Philip-Rivers.jpg"><figcaption>Mark Konezny-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Regardless of the social media hype, Rivers is still far from making the Colts’ starting lineup. Indianapolis still appears ready to start rookie Riley Leonard, who had been dealing with a knee injury, but practiced in full on Wednesday.</p><p>Rivers would also have to beat out veteran backup Brett Rypien, who has been with the Colts since October. Rypien has four career starts under his belt and was quietly elevated from the practice squad over Rivers.</p><p>The Colts’ signing of Rivers could be nothing more than their attempt to maintain a veteran presence in the locker room and on the sidelines to assist a young and inexperienced Leonard. The team has lost three games in a row and starting quarterback Daniel Jones went down and out for the season with an Achilles injury in their loss last week to the Jacksonville Jaguars. First place had looked so secure a month ago, but the latest loss put them on the outside of the playoff structure looking in.</p><p>Just as the situation looked hopeless, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-shane-steichen-philip-rivers-hilarious-take">the Colts brought back</a> a quarterback from their past. They signed 44-year-old Philip Rivers who had concluded his career during the 2020 season and had retired from the NFL to begin his high school coaching career. Rivers is going to get an opportunity to show he can lead the team and get them back on the winning track.</p><p>If head coach Shane Steichen decides that he likes what he sees from Jones this week in practice, Rivers could get his opportunity this week when the Colts go to Seattle. The Seahawks (10-3) are dynamic this season and are battling the Los Angeles Rams for NFC West superiority and have a legitimate chance to earn the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs.</p><p>Rivers sounds like a man who would love the opportunity to return to NFL action as soon as possible. “I’ll be ready to go,” <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6881542/2025/12/11/colts-philip-rivers-spark-juice-seahawks/">Rivers said</a> after the team’s mid-week practice, per <i>The Athletic</i>. “I’m going to prepare and push for that. I don’t mean push (the coaches) for that. I mean, push myself to get there. And if that’s what we feel, they feel, we collectively feel is the best decision, then we’ll go.”</p><h2><b>Rivers will gain job, but he will throw 2 interceptions</b></h2><p>Technically, rookie Riley Leonard is the No. 1 quarterback at this point. However, he simply does not have the savvy or experience to guide the Colts at this point when the schedule gets so challenging. After facing the Seahawks, the Colts have home games against the San Francisco 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars before a closing road game against the Houston Texans.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-philip-rivers-preparing-to-start-seahawks-in-week-15">Ideally, the Colts</a> can depend on the brilliant play of running back Jonathan Taylor. He has been sensational to this point with 1,356 yards and 16 rushing TDs while averaging 5.49 yards per carry. Steichen knows the running game will almost certainly lose its steam if the passing game is not credible.</p><p>The Colts don’t have a game-breaking receivers. They have competent pass catchers in Alec Pierce, Michael Pittman and Tyler Warren. If Rivers can show that he can still play at an NFL level — fairly doubtful at age 44 — the Colts have a chance to end their losing streak and get back on track.</p><p>However, the Seahawks will come at Rivers with significant pressure in the form of Byron Murphy, Leonard Williams, Uchenna Nwosu and DeMarcus Lawrence. They will force Rivers into throwing at least 2 interceptions that will hurt the Colts badly.</p><h2>Darnold will throw for 250-plus yards and 2 TDs</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Sam-Darnold-has-fulfilled-expectations-for-the-Seahawks.jpg"><figcaption>Mandatory Credit: Brett Davis-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Seahawks have been consistent all season and they are playing their best football right now as they have 7 of their last 8 games and 3 in a row.</p><p>Head coach Mike Macdonald has a team that is solid on both sides of the ball, and Sam Darnold is the triggerman of the team’s dependable offense. Darnold remains a QB1 who can diagnose the opposing defense’s coverage plans fairly easily and deliver a pass that will get the best of that coverage. He has completed 241 of 354 passes for 3,162 yards with 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.</p><p>He has a great 1-2 receiving punch with Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp, much as he did last year in Minnesota with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. Smith-Njigba has caught 89 passes for 1,428 yards and has 9 TD receptions. Kupp is an outstanding 3rd-down target.</p><p>In addition to Darnold’s passing attack, the running of Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet complements what Darnold can do through the air. Walker is fast and explosive and has 762 rushing yards and a 4.48 yards per carry mark. Charbonnet can get the tough yards between the tackles and is a key contributor. His 483 rushing yards and 3.66 yards per carry mark don’t tell the full story. He can punish defenses on short-yardage plays and he has scored 8 rushing touchdowns.</p><p>Look for the Darnold to do plenty of damage through the air and throw TD passes for Smith-Njigba and Kupp.</p><h2><b>Seahawks have too much momentum and will dominate in second half</b></h2><p>The Seahawks are getting close to the finish line and they know they have to keep up with the Rams. They can’t afford to let a slumping team with a 44-year-old grandfather under center beat them.</p><p>Unless they are looking past the Colts at the Week 16 home game against the Rams, the Seahawks will impose their will and put the Colts away in the second half. Now 8-5, the Colts’ playoff hopes took a serious hit with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-daniel-jones-tore-achilles-in-loss-to-jaguars">Daniel Jones’ season-ending Achilles tear</a> against the Jaguars.</p><p>After the devastating injury, Philip Rivers stepped forward and volunteered to take Jones’ place. Despite retiring half a decade ago, the 44-year-old quarterback is willing to suit up to save Indy’s season. Incredibly, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-indianapolis-makes-philip-rivers-signing-official">Colts signed Rivers</a>. And even more improbably, he could start for the team against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15.</p><p>While it’s unclear if adding Rivers will help the offense, Indianapolis’ defense could soon <a href="https://x.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1998877518548578504" rel="noopener">receive a major boost</a>. The Colts designated DeForest Buckner for return from injured reserve, per The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov. It’s unclear if he’ll play in Week 15. However, the Colts don’t have time to spare with their playoff odds dwindling.</p><p>Although Indy is only a game behind Jacksonville in the AFC South, the red-hot Houston Texans have won five straight games to leapfrog the Colts as well. And Indianapolis lost to both the Texans and the Jaguars in back-to-back weeks.</p><p>The upcoming schedule is difficult, with games against NFC West powerhouses. The Seahawks are up next and the San Francisco 49ers await in Week 16’s Monday Night Football matchup. Indy then closes the season with divisional showdowns against Jacksonville and Houston.</p><p>If the Colts can weather the next two weeks and/or get some help with AFC South losses, they’ll have a chance to make up ground at the end of the season. The feeling, however, <a href="https://x.com/Schultz_Report/status/1998927765677154493" rel="noopener">wasn’t mutual</a> for the fifth-year quarterback.</p><p>“Ehlinger, who’s had multiple opportunities to leave this year, decided he wanted to stay in Denver and continue his development with HC Sean Payton and QBs coach Davis Webb,” wrote Schultz on X.</p><p>He noted that the Colts reached out to Ehlinger <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-high-school-football-led-philip-rivers-nfl-return">even before working out Philip Rivers</a>, who eventually got the nod at 44 years old.</p><p>“In all likelihood, the plan was to add Ehlinger along with Rivers. The catastrophic injury news threatened Indianapolis’ season. After a promising 8-2 start, the Colts have lost three straight games to fall to 8-5. The Jacksonville Jaguars surpassed Indy for first place in the AFC South with last Sunday’s 36-19 win.</p><p>Then Philip Rivers volunteered to come off the couch and play professional football again. The eight-time Pro Bowler retired following the 2020 season and hasn’t suited up in five years. Nonetheless, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-indianapolis-makes-philip-rivers-signing-official">Colts officially signed Rivers</a> on Tuesday.</p><p>Fans were stunned by the 44-year-old quarterback’s return to the NFL. But no one was <a href="https://x.com/RomeovilleKid/status/1998891066469265637" rel="noopener">more shocked</a> than current Colts’ backup Riley Leonard. “It’s as crazy to me as it is to anybody. But Riley Leonard went through throwing sessions too on Wednesday.</p><p>ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter helped reveal Leonard’s status <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1998863398696870233?s=20" rel="noopener">amid his own ailment</a>.</p><p>“Colts listed QB Riley Leonard, who has a strained knee ligament, as a full participant in today’s practice. It looks as if the Colts need him Sunday at Seattle, he would be available,” Schefter posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Shane Steichen already hinted that the 44-year-old Rivers <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-shane-steichen-keeps-it-cryptic-starting-philip-rivers-riley-leonard-injured">will earn the start over the injured Leonard</a>. When talking to reporters on his first day back, Rivers <a href="https://x.com/RomeovilleKid/status/1998861199958778085?s=20" rel="noopener">was asked</a> if he would start against the Seattle Seahawks.</p><p>“I’m preparing like that. I’m pushing myself to get there. And if that’s what they feel, we collectively feel, is the best decision, then we’ll go,” Rivers said.</p><p>“I’ve had some good memories in Seattle,” Rivers continued. Some not so great. I know that good that team is and how well they’re playing right now. Me at 30, me at 44 — going to Seattle and winning in 2025 in Week (15) is gonna be tough.”</p><p>The Seahawks were probably a good team back then when he played them, and it seems like nothing has changed on that front except the players. Nonetheless, Rivers knows what it takes to beat elite teams, and if he does start, he will have the team ready for the matchup.</p><p>Before they get to that point, the Colts want to know <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-rumors-what-will-determine-if-philip-rivers-plays-vs-seahawks">if Rivers can do a few things</a>, according to ESPN’s Stephen Holder and Jeremy Fowler.</p><p>“But predictable concerns remain. Can Rivers, for instance, elude a pass rush? That is of utmost importance if Rivers ends up playing on Sunday, as the Seahawks rank fourth in the league with 41 sacks. Seattle also is second in scoring defense, allowing 17.4 points per game,” Holder and Fowler wrote. “As one team source put it, Rivers’ quick release and fearlessness in the pocket will help, but how he responds to an NFL pass rush at this age is an unknown variable.”</p><p>If Rivers can show in practice that he still has the movement needed to get around the pocket, if needed, they may throw him out there as the starter.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Additionally, Riley Leonard is also dealing with an ailment, so Indianapolis made the call to sign the veteran quarterback. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-44-year-old-philip-rivers-work-out-indianapolis-daniel-jones-achilles-tear">Colts decided to work out Rivers,</a> even though it’s been a while since he has had any NFL action.</p><p>Rivers has not played in the NFL since 2020. He had an amazing career, passing for 63,440 yards, 421 touchdowns, and 209 interceptions with a career completion percentage of 64.9. His career passer rating was 95.2. Likewise, Rivers had a career record of 134-106 and was one of the most prolific passers in the game.</p><p>Rivers completed 68% of his passes in his final season while passing for 4,169 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions with a passer rating of 97.0. He led Indianapolis to an 11-5 record and reached the playoffs in his final season. Although his final pass was a failed Hail Mary pass in an AFC Wild Card loss to the Buffalo Bills, it does not negate all the greatness he has achieved throughout his career.</p><p>In the midst of a three-game losing streak, the Colts badly need a victory to save a season that is quickly unraveling. But the task will be difficult, as the Colts travel to Lumen Field to face a red-hot Seattle Seahawks team. Rivers will get an opportunity to show he still has what it takes to be a quarterback in the NFL. The news comes in the wake of Daniel Jones’ devastating Achilles injury that he suffered last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/colts-news-philip-rivers-can-join-exclusive-old-man-qb-club-indianapolis">opens the door for Rivers</a> to become one of the oldest quarterbacks to ever suit up.</p><p>Further motivating the team to sign Rivers was the fact that backup quarterback Riley Leonard is also dealing with an injury of his own, leaving the Colts with a ton of question marks leading up to this weekend’s game on the road against the Seattle Seahawks.</p><p>Recently, Colts head coach Shane Steichen <a href="https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1998804396331905105" rel="noopener">didn’t exactly provide</a> a clear answer on what the plan is for that game.</p><p>“#Colts coach Shane Steichen on his starting QB for Sunday: ‘We’ll see,'” reported NFL insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network on X, formerly Twitter. “Riley Leonard has a PCL sprain, will practice, but is up in the air. Steichen noted Philip Rivers ‘absolutely’ came to Indy to play again.”</p><p>James Boyd of The Athletic also reported on the vibes at Stichen’s press conference on Wednesday.</p><p>“My impression is that <a href="https://x.com/hashtag/Colts?src=hashtag_click">#Colts</a> QB Philip Rivers will be playing sooner rather than later.
