While a few things have gone right this season, the organization seems to value continuity. As their 2025 season comes to a close, they are looking to keep one player on their offensive line for the future. Jeremy Fowler reports that the Jets are signing starting center Josh Myers <a href="https://x.com/JFowlerESPN/status/1999478050719957276" rel="noopener">to a contract extension.</a></p><p>“The Jets and center Josh Myers have reached a two-year, $11-million extension with $6 million guaranteed, per source,” Fowler reported on X. “A free agent add from 2025 is now in the fold for multiple years.”</p><p>Myers was a 2021 second-round pick by the Green Bay Packers. He started for the Packers for his entire career, but was let go by the team after his fifth-year option was not picked up. The Jets subsequently picked him up this offseason and made him their starting center.</p><p>Myers has been an underrated great piece of the Jets’ offensive line. ESPN Pass Blocking Win Rate metric has Myers ranked 15th among interior offensive linemen, winning 96% of his pass-blocking reps this season. The Jets may have had issues with their offensive line all season long, but Myers is far from the issue.</p><p>The Jets, unfortunately, have more issues to deal with. As part of their rebuild, they traded two of their best defenders in Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, at the trade deadline. They also benched quarterback Justin Fields due to poor play. His replacement, Tyrod Taylor, started a few games, but he suffered a groin injury in their previous game. New York is 3-10 heading into Week 15 and have nothing but pride to play for throughout the rest of the season. Now they are set to start their third quarterback of the season as injuries continue to mount.</p><p>The Jets <a href="https://x.com/RichCimini/status/1999516907431395768" rel="noopener">will officially start rookie quarterback</a> Brady Cook on Sunday against the Jaguars, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini.</p><p>Both Justin Field and Tyrod Taylor will be out for Sunday’s game per head coach Aaron Glenn. Cook will be thrust into action as the next man up.</p><p>Adrian Martinez will be New York’s backup quarterback behind Cook.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-brady-cook-to-start-jaguars-with-justin-fields-tyrod-taylor-injuries">All signs pointed to Cook starting</a> as early as Thursday, as both Fields and Taylor were not present at Jets practice.</p><p>Cook <a href="https://x.com/TomPelissero/status/1999519166894588308" rel="noopener">will become the seventh rookie quarterback</a>, and second UDFA, to start a game for the Jets, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.</p><p>This will not be Cook’s first action in the NFL. He <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-brady-cook-makes-nfl-debut-after-tyrod-taylor-goes-down-injury">played during Week 14 in relief of Tyrod Taylor</a>, who went down with an injury early in the game.</p><p>Cook finished the game going 14-of-30 for 163 yards with two interceptions.</p><p>New York’s <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47277198/new-york-jets-brady-cook-starting-qb-tyrod-taylor-justin-fields" rel="noopener">coaching staff liked what they saw</a> from Cook. During <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-aaron-glenn-quiet-part-out-loud-loss-dolphins">the Jets’ ugly loss to the Miami Dolphins</a> last Sunday, Taylor would suffer a groin injury, leading to Brady Cook coming into the game, as it looks like he’ll get the start against the Jaguars.</p><p>Looking at New York’s injury report on Thursday, Fields and Taylor once again did not practice, with Rich Cimini saying that means <a href="https://x.com/RichCimini/status/1999227317386641622" rel="noopener">“all signs pointing”</a> to Cook starting the game.</p><p>“Officially, no practice again for Tyrod Taylor and Justin Fields, with all signs pointing toward Brady Cook as the starter. The team <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-brady-cook-makes-nfl-debut-after-tyrod-taylor-goes-down-injury">turned to Brady Cook</a> on Sunday after Tyrod Taylor suffered a groin injury in the first quarter. The undrafted rookie tossed two interceptions and took six sacks in his NFL debut. And after the 34-10 drubbing, Cook gave Jets fans an <a href="https://x.com/RichCimini/status/1998867499908214839" rel="noopener">unexpected flashback</a>.</p><p>“The first few series was definitely quick and I think when you’re not quite trusting it yet, and things are moving fast, you might put a little extra heat on it to protect yourself from the people you don’t see – from the ghosts,” Cook said, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini.</p><p>The phrase immediately brought to mind <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-leveon-bell-tweets-that-sam-darnold-was-screwed-over-by-nfl-airing-ghost-comment">Sam Darnold’s infamous “seeing ghosts” game</a> from 2019. In his sophomore season, Darnold was rattled by the New England Patriots’ defense on Monday Night Football. He committed five turnovers in New York’s 33-0 loss. And, because it’s the Jets, he happened to be mic’d up for the game.</p><h2><b>Brady Cook utters haunting words after Jets’ latest loss</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Brady-Cook-2.jpg"><figcaption>Ed Mulholland-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>After a red zone interception in the second quarter, Darnold came to the sideline and infamously told his coach, “I’m seeing ghosts.” The clip blew up and quickly became a part of the Jets’ rich history of embarrassment.</p><p>Darnold survived the temporary haunting and moved on to better things. But New York remains in quarterback purgatory.</p><p>The team tabbed Tyrod Taylor as the starting quarterback after Justin Fields was benched ahead of Week 12. But with Taylor ruled out Sunday and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-justin-fields-wont-backup-week-14-dolphins-clash">Fields inactive with a knee injury</a>, Cook got the call. Pressed into action, the first-year passer went 14/30 for 163 scoreless yards and two interceptions.</p><p>The Dolphins scored 21 points in the first quarter. Isaiah Williams answered with a punt return touchdown. But New York could only muster three more points the rest of the way.</p><p>The Jets were officially eliminated from the postseason with Week 14’s loss. The 34-10 blowout <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-new-york-historic-playoff-drought-pathetic-loss-dolphins">extended the Jets’ playoff drought</a> to 15 straight seasons, the longest streak in the four major American sports.</p><p>Taylor has yet to return to practice and is questionable for Week 15. Cook is currently getting all the first-team reps. He’s in line to make his first career start against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday unless, of course, he comes down with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-sam-darnold-diagnosed-mono-sit-out-monday-night-game-against-browns">mononucleosis</a>.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Meanwhile, New York fans are watching the College Football Playoff, looking for their next quarterback. Before the Jaguars and Jets square off, check out these bold predictions.</p><p>The Jets could start any of three men at quarterback on Sunday. It may be Tyrod Taylor, who left Week 14’s game with a groin injury. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-justin-fields-wont-backup-week-14-dolphins-clash">Justin Fields was inactive with a knee injury</a> and has not played in a month after getting benched. But third-stringer Brady Cook played terribly, so he won’t start unless the other two can’t go. The Jaguars are relatively healthy, outside of the season-ending injury to Travis Hunter.</p><p>How will those injuries impact the Jets’ and Jaguars’ bold predictions?</p><h2><b>Brian Thomas Jr has first 100-yard game of season</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Brian-Thomas-Jr-with-Jaguars.jpg"><figcaption>Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>It looked like the Jaguars had drafted the next great wide receiver last year when Brian Thomas Jr put up 1,282 yards in his rookie season. But his sophomore season has been disappointing so far, with 35 receptions for 535 yards in ten games. That is a yards-per-game average of 53.5 compared to 75.4 in his rookie year. Thomas will have a 100-yard game for the first time this season against the Jets.</p><p>Without Hunter, the offense should be running through Thomas this season. Brenton Strange and J<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/jakobi-meyers-trade-grades-for-jaguars-raiders">akobi Meyers are great secondary options</a>, but Trevor Lawrence should be finding Thomas on every big play in this game. Without Gardner, the Jets’ secondary has taken a significant step down. That should help Thomas finally get some momentum.</p><p>The Jaguars are in pole position to host a playoff game, which would be significant for the franchise moving forward. But for them to have any chance at making a deep run, Thomas needs to revert to his rookie form.</p><h2><b>Breece Hall gets held under 50 rushing yards</b></h2><p>The Jets have no quarterback, likely won’t have Garrett Wilson, did not trade their pending free-agent running back, and still cannot run the ball. Breece Hall has gone five consecutive weeks with under 100 rushing yards, with three performances under 60. The Jaguars’ pass rush is strong, and they just bottled up Jonathan Taylor in the Colts game. With a must-win game at hand, the Jaguars will hold Hall under 50 rushing yards on Sunday.</p><p>The Jets blew it up at the trade deadline, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/why-jets-2025-nfl-trade-deadline-was-rousing-success">sending out Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner for four draft picks</a> and two players. But they kept Hall, who will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. The Chiefs were reportedly close to getting Hall, but were not willing to pay the third-round pick the Jets wanted to give up.</p><p>This now opens up a big question for the offseason. Will Darren Mougey give Hall the franchise tag? Or will he saddle the salary cap with a long-term deal for a running back?</p><p>Oh, right, the Jets play a game. Breece Hall will not break this game open.</p><h2><b>The Jaguars will dominate the Jets on Sunday</b></h2><p>The Jaguars undoubtedly hear the noise about the Texans’ winning streak and great defense. It was Jacksonville’s fourth-quarter collapse that started this Houston run with Davis Mills as the starting quarterback. But the Jags still have a one-game advantage and need to win to stay ahead of Houston. They will take care of business on Sunday, crushing the Jets at home.</p><p>According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Jaguars are 12.5-point <a href="https://sportsbook.fanduel.com/football/nfl/new-york-jets-@-jacksonville-jaguars-35021126" rel="noopener">favorites over the</a> Jets on Sunday. With an over/under of 41.5, it is clear that the sportsbooks do not respect the Jets’ offense. Their team total is just 14.5. Heading into Week 15, the New York Giants hold the No. 1 overall pick. But with a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-giants/giants-news-jameis-winston-jaxson-dart-aura">potential franchise quarterback in Jaxson Dart</a> already in the building, ESPN’s Field Yates has the G Men <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2026/story/_/id/47243299/2026-nfl-mock-draft-first-round-predictions-32-picks-field-yates">trading that pick</a> to the New York Jets in his latest 2026 NFL mock draft.</p><p>While the Giants may have their long-term solution at quarterback, the Jets definitely don’t, after a season that saw them play Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor, and Brady Cook. That’s why Fields predicts that New Jersey’s AFC team will trade up from No. 7 to take <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-espn-mocks-fernando-mendoza-no-1-replace-justin-fields">Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza with the top pick</a>.</p><p>While Yates doesn’t mention what it would cost the Jets to move up six spots, the Carolina Panthers gave the Chicago Bears two firsts, two seconds, and wide receiver D.J. Moore to move from No. 9 to No. 1 in 2023.</p><p>Those picks would certainly jumpstart the Giants’ rebuild around Dart and for whatever head coach takes over for Brian Daboll. In this particular 2026 NFL mock draft, Yates has Big Blue taking Arizona wideout Jordyn Tyson, who would be the second WR off the board after Carnell Tate.</p><p>Tyson would, hypothetically, give Dart a tremendous complement of offensive weapons, assuming that Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo return at full strength from their respective leg injuries next season.</p><p>So, while this 2026 NFL mock draft trade makes sense for both franchises, the biggest question is whether these two teams, which share a stadium, would make such a monumental deal with each other. On Monday, the suspect in the shooting <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47257417/police-arrest-20-year-old-suspect-shooting-jets-boyd" rel="noopener">was caught</a> and is now charged, per Rich Cimini of ESPN. </p><p>The suspect has been identified as 20-year-old Frederick Green from the Bronx, following a lengthy manhunt. He was taken into custody near the University at Buffalo North Campus in Amherst, New York. On Tuesday, Green was taken to the Midtown Manhattan police precinct to be charged.</p><p>Green is charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. On Nov. 16, the 29-year-old Boyd was shot in his abdomen at around 2:00 am outside a restaurant in Manhattan. Last week, Boyd <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-kris-boyd-surprises-teammates-special-teams-meeting" rel="noopener">made a surprise appearance at the Jets’ practice facility</a> after being released from the hospital. </p><p>Authorities believe that Green was trying to make a run for it. He was eventually caught in a police standoff at an apartment complex in Buffalo. The U.S. Marshals Service in Buffalo and the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force confirmed that Green was present on the second floor of the building during the standoff. </p><h2><b>How the Jets have responded to this near-fatal tragedy</b></h2><p>Since the shooting, the Jets organization has shown its support for Boyd in many ways. A public statement and flurries of prayers and well-wishes came Boyd’s way. </p><p>Plus, head coach Aaron Glenn spoke privately with Boyd and his family. Teammates expressed their dismay at what happened. Harrison Phillips and Jermaine Johnson each took to social media to express their shock and offer prayers to Boyd. </p><p>In fact, Phillips even referred to it as “a small dose of PTSD”. </p><p>When Boyd made his return to practice, he took part in a special teams meeting. The Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles battled through turnovers, big plays, and late-game drama befitting two teams fighting for postseason position. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/los-angeles-chargers/chargers-news-justin-herbert-puts-himself-in-patrick-mahomes-company">The Chargers’ overtime triumph</a> shook up the AFC and NFC playoff pictures in meaningful ways. With Jalen Hurts struggling, Justin Herbert grinding through adversity, and Cameron Dicker delivering a flawless kicking performance, both teams leave Week 14 with very different postseason realities. Now, the question becomes: Which contender strengthened its footing, and whose road just got more treacherous?</p><h2><b>Chaotic Week 14 showdown</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Justin-Herbert3.jpg"><figcaption>Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Chargers edged the Eagles 22-19 in overtime at SoFi Stadium. Los Angeles won a defensive struggle highlighted by eight total turnovers and defined by clutch special teams play. The Chargers opened the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown from Justin Herbert to Omarion Hampton. However, the middle quarters belonged to the kickers. Cameron Dicker and Jake Elliott traded field goals in a gritty chess match that left the score tied 13-9 entering the fourth.</p><p>Philadelphia seemed poised to seize control when Saquon Barkley ripped off a stunning 52-yard touchdown. That gave the Eagles a 16-13 lead. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/chargers-news-la-beat-eagles-despite-justin-herbert-being-in-absolute-hell-all-game">Herbert, though, battled through two fumbles of his own</a> and leaned on a productive ground attack that tallied 169 rushing yards. Meanwhile, Dicker came through repeatedly. His 46-yard field goal forced overtime before he nailed the game-winning 54-yarder after Philly failed to score on its opening OT possession. Herbert’s 66 rushing yards proved crucial. The Chargers escaped with a win that could loom large in the AFC’s crowded Wild Card race.</p><p>Meanwhile, Hurts endured one of the worst passing performances of his career. He completed just 21 of 40 throws for 240 yards and four interceptions. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/eagles-news-jalen-hurts-reveals-only-thing-must-do-5-turnover-chargers">That turnover avalanche</a> overshadowed Barkley’s 122-yard day and Philadelphia’s otherwise solid defensive effort. The loss dropped the Eagles to 8-5 and tightened the NFC East race far more than they expected heading into December.</p><p>Here we’ll try to look at and discuss the Philadelphia Eagles’ playoff chances and their updated odds after their Week 14 win over the Chargers.</p><h2><b>Eagles still strong, but cracks are showing</b></h2><p>The Eagles still control the NFC East. They have a two-game lead over the Dallas Cowboys (6-6-1), and their playoff odds remain strong. <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/nfl-playoff-picture/2025/" rel="noopener">Models project a final record of 11-6</a>, good for the NFC’s No. 3 seed. Their postseason probability sits at 92 percent, with a similar percentage to clinch the division. That said, the loss to the Chargers exposed troubling trends for a team that expects to contend for the conference crown.</p><p>The most alarming development is Hurts’ recent slump. His four-interception outing dragged the offense into its second straight loss. It widened the gap between the Eagles and the conference’s top seeds: the 10-3 Rams and 9-3-1 Packers. Hurts’ aggressiveness remains an asset. Still, his turnover rate is rapidly becoming a liability that has shaved the margin for error off this roster.</p><p>The schedule, however, remains favorable. The Eagles face the Raiders in Week 15, then the Commanders twice with a trip to Buffalo sandwiched in between. Three of those opponents are out of playoff contention. That gives Philadelphia ample opportunity to stabilize its offense and recalibrate its defensive rotations. Those have shown fatigue down the stretch. They boast less than a 1 percent chance of securing a first-round bye. At 5 percent, though, their odds of repeating as Super Bowl champions remain in reach. Of course that’s provided Hurts and the offense course-correct immediately.</p><h2><b>Massive OT win keeps Chargers alive</b></h2><p>The Chargers’ overtime win cemented them as one of the AFC’s most resilient playoff contenders. With the victory, Los Angeles improved to the No. 5 seed. They also avoided falling into the dangerous tiebreaker cluster below the cut line. Their projected final record stands at 11-6, with a robust 78 percent chance of making the playoffs. They also have a 13 percent shot at overtaking Denver for the AFC West title.</p><p>Realistically, a division crown remains unlikely. The Broncos sit at 11-2 and are steamrolling toward a top-two seed. On the flip side, the Chargers have achieved what matters most: they now control their own destiny in the Wild Card race. Their 6-3 conference record gives them an important edge over similarly desperate teams like the Bills, Colts, Texans, Ravens and even the Chiefs.</p><p>The climb isn’t over, though. The Chargers’ remaining schedule is brutal: trips to Kansas City and Dallas, a home clash with the Texans, and a road finale at Denver. Simply going 2-2 in that stretch may be enough to secure a postseason berth. However, anything less will reopen the door for Wild Card challengers.</p><p>Herbert will need cleaner performances. The two fumbles in Week 14 nearly doomed the Chargers. The offensive line must also protect him better against elite pass rushes ahead. However, it did little to alter the Dolphins’ long-term postseason outlook. According to The Athletic’s playoff simulator, even if Miami miraculously wins its final four games to finish 10-7, its chances of making the playoffs sit at just 16 percent. That’s a shockingly low reward for an eight-game winning streak. As of today, with the Dolphins at 6-7, those same models give them less than a 1 percent chance of sneaking into the postseason.</p><p>The biggest problem isn’t Miami’s momentum. It’s the standings and the tiebreakers. The Dolphins are currently the 11th seed in a conference where the Bills, Chargers, Texans, and Colts all own at least six conference wins. Miami, by contrast, is just 3-6 in AFC games. That becomes catastrophic in tiebreak scenarios. Even with teams directly ahead of them faltering, the Dolphins would need a mathematically improbable series of collapses from several clubs to leapfrog into the seventh seed.</p><p>Worse, two of those teams, which are Houston and Indianapolis, already hold head-to-head wins over Miami. That further buries the Dolphins in tiebreak priority. The Ravens, who also defeated the Dolphins earlier in the season, add yet another obstacle to an already tortuous path.</p><h2><b>Brutal remaining schedule</b></h2><p>If Miami hopes to climb back into the playoff conversation, Week 15 against Pittsburgh is effectively a season-elimination game. The Steelers are fighting for the AFC North crown and won’t be an easy out at home. Cincinnati follows. That is a theoretically easier opponent given their 4-9 record. However, the Bengals have been competitive and remain dangerous.</p><p>The final stretch becomes even more punishing. The Buccaneers (7-6) remain in a heated NFC South battle, while the Patriots (11-2) are chasing the AFC’s No. 1 seed. Those games offer Miami almost zero room for error.</p><p>Realistically, Miami needs to win at least three of the next four to finish 9-8 and hope chaos ensues above them. To finish 10-7, they must run the table. That’s something they haven’t done over a four-week stretch in two years. <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/nfl-playoff-picture/2025/" rel="noopener">And as the playoff projections make clear</a>, even perfection may not be enough.</p><h2><b>Encouraging but not season-changing</b></h2><p>Miami’s victory against the Jets showcased some of the offensive firepower fans have been yearning for all season. Tagovailoa delivered an efficient if a bit pedestrian performance, Jaylen Wright broke loose for 107 rushing yards, and the Dolphins showed balance and poise in key moments.</p><p>Even in celebration, though, warning signs loomed. Miami’s defense allowed 3.8 yards per carry to a struggling Jets ground game. That’s an issue that could be exploited by the Steelers next week. Miami also remains weighed down by a minus-12 point differential on the year. That’s a reliable indicator that their record may be inflated by narrow, unsustainable wins.</p><p>Only three teams have been hotter in recent weeks. Those are the Patriots, Broncos, and Texans. Yet unlike those teams, Miami has no margin for error and no favorable tiebreak angles. In that sense, the Dolphins aren’t merely fighting for wins. However, unless Miami strings together four of its best games in years, not to mention getting significant help elsewhere, the Dolphins may once again find themselves on the outside looking in come January.</p><p>The win over the Jets kept the season alive. But the margins are razor-thin, the opponents are unforgiving, and the tiebreakers are merciless. But it was not meant to be for the undrafted rookie, who threw for 163 yards in his debut.</p><p>The Jets had three possessions in the first quarter, with two ending in punts and one ending in an interception. The Dolphins, on the other hand, scored three touchdowns in four possessions. But their one punt turned into an Isaiah Williams score for New York, his second punt return touchdown of the game.</p><p>The Jets could not get any momentum from that punt return, further proving Glenn’s point about being ready to play. The Jets have now been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs for the 15th straight. The Dolphins kicked a field goal in the second quarter with the third going scoreless by both teams.</p><p>In the fourth, the Jets cut the lead to 10 on a field goal. However, the Dolphins went on to score two more touchdowns, putting the game out of reach. After the 12:46 mark in the first quarter, New York never gotten within seven points of Miami.</p><p>There are plenty of things head coach Aaron Glenn will need to address. But the most obvious is the quarterback situation. Veteran Tyrod Taylor started and went just one-of-four four six yards and an interception before leaving the game with an injury. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-brady-cook-makes-nfl-debut-after-tyrod-taylor-goes-down-injury">He was then replaced by Brady Cook</a>, who completed 14-of-30 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns.</p><p>Needless to say, neither are the quarterback of the future in New York. Neither is Justin Fields. The hits just keep on coming, as the Jets are already down 21-7 against the Dolphins at the end of the first quarter.</p><p>Jets QB Tyrod Taylor <a href="https://x.com/andy_vasquez/status/1997737176210301105" rel="noopener">went down with an injury</a> during the first quarter on Sunday. He was replaced by undrafted rookie Brady Cook, who made his NFL debut.</p><p>“Brady Cook grabs his hemet. The former had been serving in the backup role anyway after getting benched. But Taylor’s hasn’t been any better against the Dolphins, as he has completed one-of-four passes for six yards and an interception. Miami leads 21-0. And in turn, a new Jets motto <a href="https://x.com/ZackBlatt/status/1997734122714955787" rel="noopener">has been born</a>, via Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.</p><p>“#MeltdownForMendoza,” Rosenblatt posted on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Of course, he is talking about Indiana quarterback and potential Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza. As the 2026 NFL Draft approaches, Mendoza will be one of the top quarterbacks available. If the Jets lose in Week 14, they’ll fall to 3-10. With a high draft pick and a clear need at QB, Mendoza will be linked to New York throughout the offseason.</p><p>The Indiana star burst onto the scene following his transfer in 2025. In leading the Hoosiers to the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff, Mendoza completed 71.5 percent of his passes for 2,980 yards, 33 touchdowns and six interceptions.</p><p>New York needs true quarterback to build around moving into 2026. The Aaron Rodgers experiment failed and so has Justin Fields’. Head coach Aaron Glenn and company must find a quarterback they believe will thrive in their system and will be under center for the foreseeable future.</p><p>Mendoza certainly fits the bill. The fifth-year signal-caller has handled the situation about as poorly as possible and will now miss the Jets’ Week 14 rematch with the Miami Dolphins.</p><p>After serving as Taylor’s backup the last two weeks, Fields will not be active for Week 14, head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters. Fields <a href="https://x.com/RichCimini/status/1996980116388294774" rel="noopener">will miss the game</a> due to “knee soreness,” according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.</p><p>The Jets will subsequently elevate rookie Brady Cook from the practice squad to back up Taylor in Week 14. Cook has yet to make his NFL debut, but he appeared in three preseason games for the team in August.</p><p>Although injury appears to be the reason behind Fields’ absence, his actions since the benching have been questionable at best. Not only have fans noticed his blatantly negative body language, but <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-justin-fields-kidding-defiant-starting-qb-take">Fields claims he still views himself as the starter</a> despite the offense clearly being better with Taylor under center.</p><p>As much as Fields might want to deny it, the Jets have statistically been better with Taylor. They went 2-7 in nine games with Fields while averaging 20.2 points per game. Taylor has led them to a 1-2 record, including a pair of competitive losses to the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens, while leading the team to 21.3 points per game.</p><p>After a horrendous 0-7 start, the Jets have been an entirely different team over the last six weeks, going 3-2 since Week 8. He’s near the top in Jets history in receptions, just behind Don Maynard, Wayne Chrebet, and Al Toon. He was a former Pro Bowler, voted team MVP, elected a captain, and won the Ed Block Courage Award.</p><p>Through all of that success, Coles didn’t feel like he was done showing his purpose in the world, and that’s why he works for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as a police officer.</p><p>People close to him have wondered why he would want to put his risk at risk after what he was able to accomplish in the NFL. It’s not even like he’s making life-changing money as an officer: he’s being paid $32.92.</p><p>It’s not about the money with Coles, but it’s about what resides in his heart. It’s about what he dealt with as a kid. It’s about helping others. It’s about his daughter, Zya, who wanted him to be a police officer.</p><p>Yes, Coles was a good wide receiver. He made some big catches at school and in the league, but that didn’t define who he was as a player. Despite trailing by a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, New York rallied. The Jets scored 10 points in the final two minutes and sealed the victory with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-everybody-makes-folk-hero-joke-nick-folk-game-winning-kick">Nick Folk’s 56-yard field goal</a> as time expired.</p><p>After a back-and-forth battle, 36-year-old Tyrod Taylor beat 37-year-old Kirk Cousins in a battle of the backups. Cousins is starting in place of an injured Michael Penix Jr., who won the Falcons’ job last season. Taylor took the reins in East Rutherford when the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-new-york-benching-justin-fields-tyrod-taylor">Jets benched Justin Fields</a> ahead of Week 12.</p><p>Taylor’s promotion is permanent. For 2025 anyway. New York intends to keep him under center for the rest of the campaign. Beyond that, the team has no clear plan at quarterback. Taylor will enter free agency ahead of his age-37 season. But when asked for his thoughts on his NFL future, the 15th-year veteran <a href="https://x.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1996374070875889741" rel="noopener">remained zen</a>.</p><p>“I’m in the moment, man. Tomorrow’s not born. If he closes out the season as New York’s QB1, he’ll make eight starts in 2025. That would be his most active campaign since starting 14 games for the Buffalo Bills in 2017.</p><p>Still, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-tyrod-taylor-qb1-promotion-tough">Taylor had mixed feelings</a> about taking over at quarterback. The seventh-year veteran was hospitalized in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the abdomen after an altercation outside of a restaurant at 2 a.m.</p><p>Following his release, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-kris-boyd-reveals-return-hospital-recovers-from-shooting">Boyd returned to the hospital</a> on November 26. The special teams standout indicated in a social media post that he had suffered a setback in his recovery. But he hadn’t provided an update since being readmitted to the hospital just before Thanksgiving .</p><p>On Wednesday, Boyd surprised the Jets by <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47192899/jets-kris-boyd-recovering-shooting-surprises-teammates" rel="noopener">showing up</a> at the team’s facility, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini. He participated in a special teams meeting and spent the day reconnecting with concerned teammates.</p><h2><b>Kris Boyd is recovering after being shot last month</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Kris-Boyd-2.jpg"><figcaption>Thomas Shea-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>After a brief stint with the Houston Texans, Boyd signed a one-year contract with the Jets over the offseason. However, he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury during training camp and has yet to take the field for New York.</p><p>Boyd spent his first four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. Since departing Minnesota, he’s played for the Arizona Cardinals and the Texans. While he logged significant time as a defender and drew five starts for the Vikings in 2020, Boyd has played sparingly on defense since then. He’s primarily been used on special teams over the last three seasons.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-manhunt-underway-with-release-of-surveillance-images-of-kris-boyds-suspected-shooter">Police are continuing the search for Boyd’s shooter</a>. While authorities have identified a potential suspect, no arrests have been made in the case yet.</p><p>Boyd’s Jets teammates are just happy to see him up and about. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-jermaine-johnson-ii-asks-prayers-kris-boyd-shooting">Jermaine Johnson II asked fans to pray</a> for the wounded player. And the fourth-year DE was thrilled to see him at the team’s practice facility.</p><p>“I’ve had friends that didn’t survive gunshot wounds, so to be able to see him walking around with a smile on his face, be able to [talk] with him, I mean, it’s always a blessing,” Johnson said, per Cimini.</p><p>The uplifting visit comes on the heels of an unexpected victory over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 13. Despite being underdogs at home against a 4-7 Falcons team, New York won on <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-everybody-makes-folk-hero-joke-nick-folk-game-winning-kick">Nick Folk’s 56-yard field goal</a> as time expired. Miami beat<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-sauce-gardner-calls-out-refs-after-loss-dolphins"> New York the first time around, winning 27-21 on Monday Night Football</a> in Week 4. Now, Aaron Glenn’s squad has won three of their last five, and Mike McDaniel’s team has won three in a row. We have the bold predictions for the Dolphins and Jets matchup in East Rutherford on Sunday.</p><p>A lot has changed with the Jets since the Week 4 matchup with the Dolphins. They <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/why-jets-2025-nfl-trade-deadline-was-rousing-success">traded Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, among others, at the trade deadline</a>. After that, they benched quarterback Justin Fields for Tyrod Taylor, which has benefited the offense. Miami comes into the game relatively healthy, but will not have Tyreek Hill after his season-ending injury against the Jets.</p><p>The Dolphins and Jets are likely not making the playoffs, but we still have the bold predictions for the latest AFC East rivalry matchup.</p><h2><b>De’Von Achane dominates, scores two touchdowns</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Miami-Dolphins-running-back-DeVon-Achane-28-runs-against-the-Atlanta-Falcons.jpg"><figcaption>Dale Zanine-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While the Dolphins have not been dominant this year, they have one of the better running backs in football on their side. De’Von Achane has put together some sensational games this season. He has over 100 total yards in each of his last four games, which includes three wins for the team. Achane will get up to 125 total yards against the Jets, scoring two touchdowns in the process.</p><p>In the Jets’ Week 13 win over the Atlanta Falcons, Bijan Robinson did everything in his power to drag his team to victory. He racked up 193 total yards on 28 touches with just one touchdown. Add in Tyler Algeier, and Atlanta’s running backs cruised over 200 total yards. Achane may not have the same name value as a former first-round pick, but he can recreate Robinson’s production.</p><p>The Dolphins will be the latest team to benefit from the Jets’ defensive trades. Quinnen Williams’ moving from New York to Dallas had a significant impact on both run defenses.</p><h2><b>Tyrod Taylor continues solid play at quarterback</b></h2><p>Since <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-tyrod-taylor-officially-drawing-start-ravens">taking over for Fields before the Week 12 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens, Tyrod Taylor</a> has played well for the Jets. In the win over the Falcons, he threw for 222 yards and a touchdown while also running in a score. Even without Garrett Wilson, he has opened up the passing game significantly and given the team a chance offensively. He will continue that with 200 total yards and a touchdown on Sunday.</p><p>The rest of the Jets’ season is about seeing which young players can be a part of the core. Two of those players are John Metchie III and Adonai Mitchell, wide receivers they picked up at the trade deadline. Metchie had multiple massive drops against the Falcons, but Mitchell went for over 100 yards and his first career touchdown. Feeding both of those players, along with rookie tight end Mason Taylor, is Taylor’s primary job.</p><p>The Jets have a huge question mark at quarterback once again heading into a pivotal offseason. Taylor will play out the string and may earn himself another solid contract as a backup somewhere with another strong game.</p><h2><b>The Dolphins beat the Jets once again</b></h2><p>Both the Jets and the Dolphins are playing better than they were leading into the Week 4 matchup. The Jets’ defense has not been able to make stops since trading away its two best players. Meanwhile, the Dolphins have been much better on offense since the dramatic <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/miami-dolphins/dolphins-news-mike-mcdaniel-has-mixed-reaction-chris-grier-firing">firing of general manager Chris Grier</a>. If the defense cannot get to Tagovailoa, Miami will be able to move the ball.</p><p>The Dolphins are three-point favorites on the road and -146 on <a href="https://sportsbook.fanduel.com/football/nfl/miami-dolphins-@-new-york-jets-34998259" rel="noopener">the money line</a>, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Achane has the best odds to score a touchdown in the entire game at -150, but is +430 to score twice.
